Fidel took the time to thoroughly explain how cleaning only one section of the HVAC system wouldn't actually solve the issue because the dust and debris would simply be pushed into other parts of the system. He was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and honest, and his explanation made perfect sense. Fidel and Licho were both professional, respectful, punctual, and extremely thorough. Showed up 15 minutes into my 2-hour service window and before he set a foot inside my house, put covers over his boots which my carpets greatly appreciated. Did a thorough inspection of my furnace, air purifier filter, and A/C unit before cleaning the A/C. Said everything was healthy for an older system and didn't try to bullshit me or insult my intelligence. Guess which HVAC company I will never contact again and which one I would.

Their technician ran a paid diagnostic but…read morewould not open the unit, told me the refrigerant charge "seemed adequate," and proposed a coil cleaning of $545-$1,195 without ever looking into the system to see if it was dirty, to try to identify the problem. I got a second opinion. When the second company opened the system (originally installed by Advantage Air company), they found roughly two gallons of water inside the sealed refrigerant circuit, refrigerant leaking over the motor, a failed metering valve, an emergency water shut-off that wasn't connected and an unsecured exhaust line -- all documented with photos and video. The coil wasn't dirty; the system was contaminated and improperly sealed. I'd encourage anyone to get a second opinion before authorizing an expensive "cleaning," and to insist the technician show you what they're diagnosing. This system has only ever been worked on by Advantage Air. The system is basically new; it's eight years old. I purchased this home three years ago.

Upon reviewing the Honeywell thermostat instructions and wiring diagram, we identified that the thermostat had been incorrectly wired to the "W" terminal. After rectifying this wiring error, the air conditioning unit resumed normal operation, producing cool air. I subsequently contacted Thomson for clarification regarding the initial service. Their response repeatedly referenced a previous replacement 14 months prior. While their online reviews are predominantly five-star, our experience suggests a lack of professionalism. I had four well-rated HVAC contractors come out to go over options and provide estimates for replacing our 32 YO central HVAC system. The first three all said that I needed to go with the mini-split type of system with the air handler units (@ $17,000.00-$17,500.00) mounted in some positions that seemed energy inefficient, to me (based on the unusual layout of our home) as well as detracting from the appearance of the house. Alec was the only one that took the time to look at all of the options, explain why some would work, but might not be the best choice, and why some others wouldn't work as well, or at all, and said he could install the gas Forced Air Heater and Cooling coil where it made the most sense efficiency wise to me, and provided an estimate several thousand dollars lower than the other three contractors for comparable quality equipment. His crew showed up on time, and worked like men possessed, even though I picked the two hottest days of the year to have my old system replaced. Alec and his crew answered a LOT of questions, and showed me how everything was routed, and were able to use most of the old ducting spaces while installing new insulated ducts, and route the new power and refrigerant lines through the same spaces the previous system used so we didn't need to make alterations to the structure. I will recommend Sturges Heating and Air to any friends or coworkers that need to replace their systems, or install new ones. I'm a notorious penny-pincher and I think this was Money Well Spent!!! read more

I called Sturges for a quote for an AC system install in my house. I got Alec Sturges on the phone,he was very nice and offered to come same day. I left work and met him at my home. He was very knowledgeable, answered all my questions and I did not feel as though he was giving me any run-around. I felt that I learned a lot just by following him around as he gathered all the info he needed. He gave me a verbal quote on the spot and I received a written quote same day. He was very straightforward and i can tell he knew what he was talking about. Altogether, I received 5 quotes. Sturges was the second best price but I went with him because of his professionalism, the detail of his quote, and I just felt more comfortable overall. At first when the crew showed up I was a little disappointed that Alec wasn't going to be working on my home but that disappointment quickly faded as I soon realized that his crew was just as knowledgeable and friendly as he was. Alec is very proud of his crew and I can see why. The crew came on a Thursday morning 8am sharp and I had central air conditioning by Saturday afternoon.They worked quickly, they worked hard and everything looks very clean. Alec and his crew with Sturges Heating and Air Conditioning have restored my faith in contractors. When Alec came to assess my house he took the time to explain all the options available and his knowledge was second to none. For all his suggested updates I expected his quote to far exceed my budget. He provided me three estimates based on multiple levels of setups/upgrades. His pricing was so fair I was able to go with the top tier option and stay within budget. I did do the responsible thing and got multiple estimates and none of them came close in comparison from a pricing or customer service perspective. At the end of the job I realized I absolutely made the right choice. Alec did inform me that Jeff would be the team lead which made me a little nervous because I was so comfortable with Alec that I'd hope he'd be overseeing the project. After 10 minutes with Jeff my reservations were put to rest. Jeff was as knowledgeable and as great a guy as Alec. The whole project took two days which blew my mind. We just had a completely new heating and air conditioning unit put in by Sturges Heating and Air and they were amazing. Alec came out the same day we called, did a walkthrough and emailed a complete estimate to us within hours. We asked about some changes (electric heater instead of gas...two stage unit instead of single stage). No problem. His bid was competitive with the other estimates we received but he had some discounts that made his bid much better. But the best was yet to come. His crew was amazing. Each of them was so nice and obviously very competent. We had some tricky places to get to because of past home additions and their response was no problem. They had to cut an opening in our ceiling to get to one area. When all was done they patched it, matched the paint and we couldn't tell that there was ever a hole. When they were packing up to leave, Alec had two wonderful ladies show up to clean our house. I don't know if it was because of the dust flying around from the extra cuts or if it's something he always does but it was totally unexpected. So if you are looking for heating and air conditioning always get several estimates but make sure Sturges is one of them. If you choose him you can't go wrong. read more

Alec lives on my block, and I had talked to him last year about wanting to replace my A/C. I thought he said he only repaired A/C's, so about a month ago, I called another company for an estimate for a new A/C system. Alec saw the other company's truck and later came over and asked if he could submit a bid also. He told me that although he primarily repairs A/C's, etc., his crew installs new equipment and also does insulation and duct work. Jeff, Carlos, and Roberto did an excellent job, and like other reviewers mentioned...Jeff told us what he was doing, adjusting, and fixing throughout the process. We have a bedroom that has no insulation with a peaked ceiling and two small vents. The vents produced skimpy heat in the winter and little cold air in the summer. Jeff showed us what he did to create a stronger air flow, and it was amazing. Because it was cold that day, he turned on the heater, and a strong flow of heat came into this peaked ceiling room. When our rooftop heating unit stopped working I went to homeadvisor.com to narrow my search for a heating/air conditioning repair service technician. Sturges Heating and Air Conditioning was one of three recommended for the job. I decided to go with this service because it was local and the reviews were favorable. Alec was friendly and explained his whole routine as he was working. He didn't have to. Anyhow, the repair was very simple. The issue was the ignition box (a separate unit from the motherboard) not igniting. He checked power to the unit, pushed in connections, moved ignition wire away from the heat vent, and gave the box a jiggle and a few taps (kind of like tapping that starter solenoid in your car). Voila, the heating system turned on. He made sure it worked a few times before he left. Alec also took pictures of the ignition part for future reference just in case the part failed. I was in need of a new HVAC system to replace my current failing system that was 21 years old. I first received a quote from a large HVAC company doing my ongoing maintenance. I was shocked at the quote. I was talking with a neighbor about it and he referred me to Alec who he knew from high school. Alec and his team installed a new HVAC system in my house about a year ago. Best investment I ever made. We have never had central air before but we did have one of those in room stand alone units that you stick the hose out the window. On hot summer days the in room unit struggled to keep even a bedroom cool. The new central unit keeps the whole house cool and the big surprise for me was that my electric bill was not that different even with the hot 2018 summer we had. If you are running multiple in room units, do yourself a favor and upgrade to central air. Alec and his crew showed up when they said they would, completed when they said they would for the price they said they would. Workmanship was bar none. What an unbelievable find . Look no further !!! Alec gave us a VERY fair bid to replace the heating and air conditioning in our home. We did three separate zones with three separate Nest thermostats . All the old equipment and ductwork were taken out and within an hour somebody came to remove it all from the front of our house. Then all the new equipment arrived . The team of Carlos, Gersen. Robert and Jeff moved seamlessly through our home for 3 days . Everybody had a job and everybody knew exactly what to do. If a new angle was needed Jeff was able to run out and get whatever was called for . Shout out to Alec from Sturges Heating and Air Conditioning for saving my family from this heat! A/C stopped working yesterday, Friday of Labor Day weekend at 5pm. I checked my local community page for recommendations and found Sturges Heating and Air. I called and left a message. Alec returned my call right away and offered to come out at 7 am the next day (Saturday on a holiday weekend). Yes, he did a Saturday call!! He arrived on time, was friendly and professional and took the time to do a thorough check of my system and electrical. I was referred to Sturges by my neighbor, and Alec and his crew are awesome! My old heater in the attic was installed in the 60's or 70's. I was told by 2 other contractors it would take 2 to 3 days to tear out the old heater and install a new one. Alec's crew did it in less than one day, also he had the best price. I called the night before and he said to text my address to the same telephone number. He came right out in the morning. I had the central A/C installed in 2001 so I thought I was in for a new expensive compressor. Instead he just put in what looked like a condenser and we cleaned the machine inside and he used the hose outside to clean it and only charged me $275 which is a lot cheaper than a new compressor. Alec is a first class HVAC technician. Very logical, and customer oriented. Fortunately, he was able to report on short notice today. We've had a string of warmer than typical April evenings. He assessed the equipment and the deficient performance of the system. As you can imagine, as a new home owner, most all of our money was tied up in the purchase of the home and we were expecting the air-conditioning to work since it had previously passed inspection. I tried using our home warranty, but they gave me every reason under the sun not to cover it. At this point, we were so close to summer that we could not wait anymore, especially since we had a young child. I met with several air-conditioning companies for quotes, one that even quoted me over $50k for a new unit and ducting. I met with Kyle who worked with me on pricing. I really appreciated his calm demeanor, positive attitude and professionalism through this unexpected, stressful situation. He was able to fit us into their very busy schedule and we were able to get new AC up and running within one week notice. His team, led by Ivan, did a great job with the removal of the old ducting and unit, installation of the new and cleaned up after themselves after each workday. I also met Juan, on the last day who helped start up our system. Juan was kind, knowledgeable and professional. I had some minor hiccups that came up after the job was done, Kyle and Juan were very responsive and helped resolved things swiftly. They are an exceptional team and I would be happy to recommend them to anyone.

An update on my past review of this company. I was very dissatisfied with the treatment and the…read moreservice I received upon calling back this company to check on my Hvac system. I replaced a few components that were suggested by the Technician. However, I made the mistake of not reversing the fan to my condensing unit causing my compressor to blow. I called out the Technician to confirm he worked on the unit for roughly 15 minutes then I was approached by him with a hard sell to replace my heating and air conditioning with prices ranging from 15,000 to 32,000 I received a hard sale for longer than the Technician worked on the unit, then after not agreeing to make a purchase, I was charged $200 which I feel was very unfair for the amount of time that Technician spent on the unit . Like I mentioned that Technician tried to sell me a whole new system longer than he actually did any work on my condensing unit. I had another company come out and give me a price to replace my compressor. Upon that company coming out I noticed two things that were disturbing to me. I've included pictures. Lesson learned.

Our unit was 20+ years old and could not be repaired due to its outdated refrigerant requirements which are now banned. The tech was clean, knowledgeable and helpful, giving us a temporary fix in meantime. We decided to get a quote to replace the unit and worked with Robert. He was very polite and showed us different options without pressuring us. We know other people who recently had an A/C replacement with other companies and the price Robert gave us was less. The installation went very smoothly and the installers arrived on time and finished the job earlier than expected. I didn't care for the new thermostat style and the installer cheerfully changed it to another style that I liked. I found this company to be have excellent customer service, honest, on time and reasonably priced.

We haven't had central air for a few years and using portable ac units had us paying insane amounts for our electric bills. Our bills have reduced more than half. After my biannual service from the large company that originally installed my system I was scared…read moreinto thinking that I needed a bunch of repairs and that I may need to replace my whole system.. The first photos show how dirty the condenser was after they cleaned it. They had written me a quote for repairs with various options ranging from $1470-$3500 to replace a capacitor and add refrigerant to the system. Mike came and diagnosed the problem and gave my condenser a complete cleaning filled up the refrigerant and got my system running great. His prices were a fraction of what I was quoted. Mike is both professional and honest! I highly recommend!
