It was Thursday and I had just scheduled an interview for first thing the next morning. I had to get a haircut. I called my usual stylist but she was booked. So, I opened up Yelp and searched "mens haircut redlands ca". Naturally I looked for businesses with great reviews and that's when I discovered Patio Barber Shop. It's walk in only and time was ticking. They were closing at 4pm and I was out running errands with my wife and daughter so we weren''t able to get there before 3. So I figured that at least I'll swing by and just check it out. We walked in and it was like a step back in time. Very retro. The decor was very cool and the chairs were old school like at my grandfather's barbershop in the 70's. I read quite a few great reviews about Jeff (the owner) and as we walked in we got a friendly greeting from him. He was cutting a young man's hair and the the cut was fantastic. Out of the backroom came another barber named Jamie. She was super friendly and asked if I was ready. She proceeded to give me the best cut I've gotten since I can remember. I had come in just a few days ago, realized the back wasn't as short as I'd liked when he finished and mentioned it, but he told me it's better not to cut further since I am trying to grow my hair out. Yes, leaving the back alone would allow for a faster growing out process, but I had come in because this was a maintenance cut to keep it looking polished during the growing phase, and I had made this clear. Since he insisted, I didn't press further and left. I realized after showering that it looked really bad and rushed (see photo) and came in to correct it a few days later (I live 30 mins away, otherwise I would've come in the following day). The other barber quickly cut the back shorter and still charged me. She charged a discounted rate for this correction, but I really don't agree in principle that I should've been charged at all since this was to correct something I had already asked for just a couple of days before during the actual haircut and didn't get. It's not about the money -- this place already charges less than half the price of my usual barber, but it's the principle and lack of consideration that left a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe I should've called before to ask? I did, countless times, but they don't answer their phone, and their Instagram settings don't allow you to message them. When I mentioned this during the correction haircut, the barber's response was "Yeah we don't answer our phone." This issue aside, I also noticed during the correction cut that they don't sweep the floors between customers. There are mountains of hair all over the floor that you need to step over to get to the chair, which is just disgusting. Between that, the fact that the original haircut felt very rushed, and charging me again for a small correction when I had already asked for that during my original haircut, I unfortunately can't justify returning. read more

Took my boys to get all their hair cut and checked out this barber shop and they took real good care of them . The wait was really fast. I didn't have to wait hours to be seen. I like the antique old fashioned style barber look. It gives the place a unique atmosphere . All the barbers were very nice and friendly. This will definitely be mine and my family new barber. I've been coming here for about 6 years. It doesn't matter which chair you sit in, they will take care of you. I have not had one bad haircut since coming here and I appreciate being able to just walk in for great service regardless of who's chair I'm in. Plus the price is very fair, almost too good to be true. It's a nice old school shop that is cash only. Jeff does cut hair good when he is at the shop or when the shop is not closed for various reasons (today because kids are sick). I've been to the shop several times in the past two months each time he is gone or closed. What are the hours? Does anyone know what's the business phone is? Try calling ph# here on yelp and no one ever picks up and the message says "box is full". Asked once from the lady barber and she said there is no phone to call. Ed used to be the previous owner and was a great guy and barber, sure do miss Ed! I have been to a lot of barbers in Redlands. Our normal shop made me upset when I sat there for over an hour with my 5 year old son just to tell me they wouldn't be able to take us. I googled this place and have not looked back since. There is sometimes a wait, but it's worth it. The owner and his barbers are all very friendly, and do a great job. They do my sons hair exactly how I ask. They also have genuine conversations. These guys are busy, especially on a weekend so you should be aware and call them ahead. Why? Cause they are awesome. I had Sarah cut my hair after some disaster haircuts at a chain salon. She knew exactly what I wanted after explaining and got down to business. When I had walked in there were two people getting cuts. 10min later it was packed. They are efficient but also make sure to do an excellent job with your neckline, blending, fading, and whatever else you need. They are my new spot for haircuts.
