I dropped my brother off to get brunch with some friends and wanted to find a cafe nearby to write at. Patio came up on Yelp so I headed over! As soon as you walk in, it's like taking a step back in time. It's an old-fashioned diner! It was full on a Saturday morning around 10am, but I got a seat at the bar. Loved the bar stools. I ordered a White Raspberry Mocha and loved the flavor--not overly-sweet-- and the glass it came in. Perfect accompaniment while I was writing for a little over an hour. Service and vibes were great. I love, checking out local small businesses, but this one was a mess. I ordered a breakfast burrito, which seems to be the most popular savory item and a raspberry mocha. The coffee was forgettable, and the burrito was incredibly mediocre. The potatoes were undercooked to the point of being crunchy, and there was nothing really holding the ingredients together. It either needed more cheese or the eggs needed to be cooked with the meat and veg so it would be cohesive. Unfortunately, it just doesn't feel like anyone involved in making it cared. read more

Ordered an El Camino Real omelette, and it was quite good and the portions were very generous. The fruits that came as a side (watermelon and cantaloupe) were quite small however. The coffee was excellent, including the fun white raspberry flavor! Service was very friendly and the food came out very quickly. There was a good amount of seating both indoors and outdoors, and the outdoors seating area (the famed Patio) is a lovely brunch spot on a nice day :) overall would recommend. read more

Cute and friendly breakfast place. Very friendly service and fast. No wait to sit and enjoy a meal. The staff were super kinda and very attentive. I ordered the corn hash beef and eggs with a side of fruit and coffee. The eggs and hash came out extremely hot and freshly prepared. The side of fruit was slices of watermelon and cantaloupe. The coffee was hot and perfect. They had creamer and sugar on the side. Over all I was very happy with my food and service. I would come back to try different items. read more

My thoughts: This is a traditional classic Continental cafe restaurant that is been around the San Mateo area through out the up and down of the economy. And any restaurant can survive the harsh business world is A OK in my book. Plus they do serve good Comfort food and maintain a reasonable price. Here is my scoring card for this restaurant: 1) Location: ( 5 Point ) - Great location for customer to see and find. Great parking for street parking. 2) Decoration : (3 Point) - They still have the original decoration. Clean but not up to date. 3) Price: ( 4 point)- The price is competitive and reasonable compare to other same stars and type food they serve. 4) Quality and Taste : ( 3 point)- The quality is ok, food taste is good and portions are good. 5) Type of cuisine standard : ( 4 point) - The style of Cafe food they serve is pretty close to the way it was prepare any where to the USA. Not bad! But some dishes did have slightly modify to cater the customer's need Overall it's not bad and I thinks it's great to give it a try and let me know what you think. I Walked in for a quick breakfast and was greeted by one of the kindest and gracious hosts. Hassan the owner of this old school breakfast spot with elevated bar stools made me feel so at home. While chatting with him m, guests came in as Hassan greeted them by name and asked for the usual. Apparently this place has been there since the 20's and is a neighborhood secret. We used to go here frequently. That is, until we witnessed some episodes of discrimination. We took friends who are a gay couple here for the first time. It was fairly obvious that they were together. I noticed that one of our friends didn't have toast, which was included with his breakfast. When we told the waiter, he said that it was because he hadn't asked for it. It comes with the breakfast! We told the other waiter, who we were more familiar with, and he said the same thing. The breakfast food here is pretty good, except for the Eggs Benedict. I don't want cayenne in my hollandaise. The sauce was orange with it. I ate it, but I was really craving a homemade, creamy pale yellow classic hollandaise. It did not taste like hollandaise at all! Seems to be impossible to find these days. Anyone have a recommendation please, please let me know. The service is excellent and the food comes out pretty quick. The cafe is super cute and cozy inside with bar counter seating. I had an excellent time at breakfast here. The interior is small but cozy, and the menu has lots of options. All the classic breakfast items plus some Mediterranean options. I had the sunrise breakfast sandwich which was delicious and with the side of hash browns was way too much for me for breakfast. I love that they fold all the sandwich fillings into an omelette first as it helps everything stay together. It's also awesome that the sandwich (and breakfast burrito) come standard with avocado. Yum. Hash browns were nice and crispy as well. Service was a little slow, and prices are average/above average, but it's worth it for the food! We got a mocha and a latte. Mocha was watered down tasting and not good at all. Probably the worst mocha I've had from a full menu coffee shop. The frothed milk on top is the only thing that differentiates it from vending machine coffee. I didn't try the latte, but my partner was similarly unimpressed. Came here last week on national coffee day to support a local business. They are now offering indoor dining with social distancing. This homely little spot is definitely worth eating at. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and coffee. Both were served fairly quickly, and it came out to about $17...a little more expensive than I had hoped. The sandwich was delicious though, well cooked and the bread was soft yet crunchy. I walked in and it was pretty empty, only 4 tables were taken and I waited at the front door because I wasn't sure if we seat ourselves or not. The guy at the register did not say anything, so I waited for 3 minutes and asked if I should go sit down or wait and he rudely said "well let me get you a menu before you sit down." Then I wanted to order the Philly cheesesteak with fries and he said we don't have fries this early (it's 12:23pm). And so I ordered the breakfast burrito with sausage and the menu says you get toast or an English muffin and potatoes, hash browns, or cottage cheese. I asked for sourdough toast and he said "it's doesn't come with toast" and I said "oh the menu says it does" and he said "forget the menu it comes with a tortilla wrapped around" like duh it's a burrito of course there's a tortilla... Workers were super friendly and attentive! This place has a super cozy atmosphere, and it seems to be pretty quiet on weekdays. We never had to call or ask the waiter for anything, they were super on-top of it. The mediterranean omelette I got was super yummy, and my friend's breakfast burrito was good too. Food came with plenty of sides and it was super filling, well worth the cost. The raspberry white mocha was soo good. The salsa they use tastes like ketchup, giving the entire thing a weirdly sweet taste. I used all three hot sauces on the table in an attempt to cover the taste. And it was still pretty bad. Note to the proprietor: maybe simplify your burrito? Salsa on the side. And no mushrooms. Even though I like them these just added to the strange taste. The sauce was a little bit more lemony compared to other Benedict's I've had (as stated in the other reviews). My boyfriend ordered the corned beef hash. Service was not the best since they barely came around to us. We also thought they were ignoring us when we first got there because as we were waiting to tell them how many people, the waiter was at the cash register right up front, saw us and didn't even acknowledge us. Such an adorable coffee shop right by my house! Can't believe I never came here before. It's a little hole in the wall with your typical diner fare. Prices are great, for 5-6 dollars, I can get myself a full breakfast. Yes, I can make these things at home, but when laziness calls, I'm taking my little self to the patio. The owner is welcoming and tries to chat it up with all the patrons. Friendly guy and very accommodating.
