Since my first review I was contacted by PKD to see how they could make the situation better. They did offer a refund of my delivery fee and they provided me with touch-up paint for the different pieces. Overall the patio cover came out nice and Katie in the office was very helpful. I added a star for their follow up to correct the situation, but the communication and follow through from the delivery end of the process could have been better. read more

Update: I finally received my patio cover after 12 weeks. Everything arrived in excellent condition. I am happy to say that I love my patio cover! All in all I am happy with the product. I placed an order with them back in July, Deena was my sales representative. When I placed my order she explained to me that the order would take between 4-6 weeks, she explained that the manufacturer was out about 3 weeks on orders so they are giving a little bit of a grace period in case the manufacturer runs behind. I understood, I mean with Covid you never know what might happen. I sent an email at the 6 week mark and was told they had no updates and would keep me informed on any new information they received. 10 days later I sent another email and this time I was told that the manufacturer had updated them that my order WOULDN'T be started for another 2 weeks! I replied back telling them that would be 10 weeks and they hadn't even started my order? I asked for a manager to call me, Kurt did call and explained that it wasn't there fault that they are at the mercy of the manufacturer and they have no control on what orders are processed first. That the manufacturer just picks orders at random, so some people wait months as others only wait a few weeks, and he agrees it's not fair but it hasn't been in his control. Kurt assures me that the relationship between his company and the manufacturer is changing, that they will be able to control how the orders are processed going forward, He tells me that my name is on the list and my order WILL be started on the 28th of September. I email once again on the 28 to ask if my order has been started, I get a phone call from Kurt on the 29th telling me it hasn't been started but he was told that it would be started and finished by the end of the week but it won't be delivered until the following week. Once again I'm upset, we talk he says it's going to get done he promises. You're on our radar, we'll do everything we can but we our at the mercy of our manufacturer. I agree to wait and be patient I mean it's already been 10 weeks what's one more right? Now here we are October 7 I once again email to check on a delivery date. Once again I get a phone call from Kurt that my order HASN'T been started!!!!! The manufacturer missed my name on the orders and it won't be started until next week! So here we are 11 weeks in and my order still hasn't even started. At this point I'm not sure I'll ever receive my patio cover. If you choose to do business with this company know that you will never know if/when you might get your products. They choose names at random and you could be unlucky like me and wait 11+ weeks and still have no answers. They do respond to emails and phone calls so that's a plus. They just blame the manufacturer for everything. read more

Terrible experience! Ordered some alumawood parts (not even a kit) on March 1st 2021. Promised 6 to 8 weeks delivery. 15 weeks later on June 9th after numerous calls to a useless CS dept staffed by Rosa, I requested to cancel the order. I filed a complaint with my CC card and after numerous more weeks, finally resolved on Aug 5th with a full refund. Patio Kits Direct demands full 100% payment on placing the order. DO NOT EVER give them cash as once they have it you're stuck. ALWAYS use a CC so you have dispute options when they fail to deliver, and they will, just read all the other reviews; but better yet - Learn from me and avoid this company! read more

All around great! From ordering to shipping to the quality of the materials and customer support. I couldn't be happier with the product and the whole experience. Building my patio cover myself was fun and a great project for the do-it-yourselfer. Instruction are a bit generic due to varied types of installs I suppose, but Bill and Kyle where just a phone call away and always there to help. I shopped around and considered a lot if different patio covers, but after talking with Bill and looking over their website and seeing the quality of the materials made for an easier decision. Prior to placing an order with PKD I contacted several local contractors/installers to come by the house to provide an estimate. Considering the other house projects we had going on we were leaning towards the savings PKD offered. I contacted Deena to get some specifics answered and she was beyond helpful. We don't have the most straightforward design (see pictures), and many of the visual quotes we received were all conflicting....yes we needed a footing, no we didn't, yes we could mount to the house, no we couldn't. Deena had all the answers and I placed my order with confidence knowing she would be available to answer questions as we moved along in the process. Everything arrived on the estimated date and pickup at our local distributor was painless. We used our pickup truck and borrowed a utility trailer for the longer pieces (our patio cover is 15'x19'). This is about where the positive points in our experience end.... Let me start by saying that I consider my husband and I to be on the very handy side, but this project was VERY difficult for us.... 1) As you can see in the pictures, we did not mount from just one wall of the house like most people do. We have an L shape we wanted covered, but I didn't want multiple posts - I wanted a max of 2. I knew we needed one closest to the grass line and was fine with having one on the other side near the house, but Deena assured me that we could eliminate the house-side post and mount directly to the house without a problem. I mentioned my concern that we were told by a pretty experienced installer that this was not an option, but she walked me through what was needed and assured me it would work. Turns out we should have listened to the experienced installer because the amount of hurdles we had to overcome were due to the fact that this kit was not intended to be mounted on two perpendicular roof lines. 2) The instructions that were sent to us with the kit were awful! None of the parts or hardware are labeled. We had to call Deena for help because we were getting absolutely nowhere and one of her first responses was that the instructions are outdated (have been for quite some time) and they keep asking the manufacturer for updated ones. So you know this, but still send them out?! You don't mention it beforehand to save your customers the time and headache of getting to that conclusion themselves?! The only upside is that they do try and take pictures to provide visual and we were sent videos of Bill explaining a few steps in the process. 3) During one of my many phone calls with Deena to get better instruction, we realized that we were not sent all of the proper hardware needed to even put our patio together. Figuring even this out was a struggle since none of the parts were labeled and I was unclear of the purpose for each type of screw. The phone call took place on a Monday after the manufacturer closed and Deena wasn't able to get her request in until the following morning that parts needed to be overnighted. We obviously lost out on any productivity on Tuesday and anxiously waited for our UPS driver on Wednesday. You'd think that to make the situation right we would have gotten our package first thing Wednesday morning....nope. We didn't even get them that afternoon. When I reached out to Deena to get an update her responsiveness started to dwindle and the friendliness I had experienced thus far did too. We ended up never getting a package on Wednesday at all which means nothing was overnighted, we lost out on another day, and I had to reach out to Deena myself rather than get updates from her. Thursday morning came and went and by late afternoon we finally saw our UPS driver. By then I was completely frustrated at the time lost and Deena's complete 180 in customer service skills. Her last response was the most formal thing ever and her first ever apology that we were having such a bad experience which made it all the more insincere. We never heard from her after that - no checking in to see how we were doing, no seeing if we needed any more help. Some may say I'm asking for a lot, but I worked in customer service in the transportation industry for nearly 10 years and if I knew something went wrong on my end and I had an upset customer I wouldn't have just ignored them. Plain and simple, things started going south that were in PKD error and they ducked out instead of stepping up to the plate. All in all, would I use them again?....no. This would have been a scenario where it would have been worth it to pay the extra money to have a qualified person do it for me and have it done right. Is the product itself good? Yes, sure, but our final product is quite make-shifted to account for mounting on 2 roof lines when it shouldn't be so we could ensure no water leakage. read more

This place it really, rally bad. First it took them months to "produce" our patio cover. We picked it up and go it home and started to try to "DIY" it and discovered that between their vague, confusing and in some cases down right wrong assembly instructions, parts that don't fit and their miserable customer service/technical support, DIY is next to impossible. It seems to me that what is happening here is that although the company advertises that its kits are "DIY", they intentionally make it impossible to actually DIY so you either have to buy installation services from their "sister" company, or they intend to make more money selling you parts ruined in trying to follow their directions. When I called about mass produced parts that don't fit, I am first told that "we have never had this happen before" followed by their own photographic evidence that it has happened before. And then when you follow their directions and mess up parts, they want to charge you $400 for the replacements. This place is bad, really bad and you should stay away - far away!!! read more

I called Patio Kits Direct to get a quote for a custom sized patio cover and Bill literally guided me from A-Z. I was not expecting such a detailed explanation for each and every portion of the build. When you are doing a DIY job such as this it can get a little scary but rest assured that you will not have any problems, just don't be afraid to ask questions! The price was right within our budget and we went ahead and ordered. Bill explained that we can save some money and head over to the warehouse with a U-Haul and pick it up ourselves instead of paying for the delivery charge. This really stood out to me because this company and these people actually CARE about your wallet! However, since we were not able to pick up ourselves we opted for the delivery which came in about 2 and a half weeks. Nothing was really damaged a few very minor dents in 1 of the roof panels but nothing we couldn't bang out with a hammer and some extra cardboard from the shipping boxes. Be aware, you will have to do some work..the instructions are very straightforward and you can always call if you have a question about anything which is great. We finished our patio in a little over a month because we added some extras that do not come with the kit but are nice to have such as flat panel lights, extra electric outlets and some privacy shades to block the sun. We saved close to $5,000 by doing this ourselves rather than having someone come and build it for us and you can do the same. Hope this review helped you guys! Thanks again Bill! read more

Bill and his team are amazing. Always supportive and SO helpful. I ordered 2 things from them. Knotwood for my deck, which looks just like wood but is actually no maintenance metal. I also got a pergola from them, and both look amazing. Installing the decking was a little complex, but Bill was there for me every step of the way, with helpful instructions and ideas. He is absolutely one of the most knowledgeable and responsive people I have dealt with during my construction project. If you have ever done any construction you know that often people in this business only respond if it's convenient...or maybe if they feel like getting back to you....sometime. This would have been a 5 Rating however there were some hang ups with delivery but in the end all is well and company made sure I had everything I needed. Their customer service /design rep (Deena) made the purchase a 5 Experience. I requested a quote via the web site she called me with specific questions and requests. I sent her a few pictures of area and my ideas. Deena made a plan and helped with color choices and materials, very knowledgeable of their product. Throughout purchase , delivery , pick-up and completion of project Deena responded back immediately with answers/resolutions. Outstanding customer service and product. This was a total DIY project , the pick-up process and interpretation of the cut list should be made easier to verify for DIYers all items are in your pick up package, they give everything you need to complete your awning ! I waited three month for the product. didnt complain about that. the person i was dealing with katie says shes the owner said she would check on monday after i had to pay my contractor to show up last weekend $500 for missing my appointment. I began looking for a patio cover online in early spring. I was sceptical of the idea of a "kit". I had a few conversations with these guys, especially Kyle, and as I progressed, I got much more comfortable with it. Once I ordered, it came in less than two weeks! Now, the build process took me about a month, simply because of my time availability. I had a few issues with the instructions, there are places where they are very lacking; so as long as you take advantage of talking with them on the phone, you'll be OK. Get a LOT of information up front, before you start building! That being said, throughout the month, i would txt Kyle to give me a call when I had a question and it was never more than 2- 5 minutes before I would hear from him. Had great ideas, and again... Stellar support!! I even had to get a few extra pieces because of a few mistakes of mine (again, because of the instructions) but they send the pieces I needed no questions, no more money, and quickly! Well I wish I had the opportunity to leave a review on the patio itself, but the company has left it impossible for us to get our patio kit. We spent a lot of time taking measurements and picking out details - and spent over $4500 on the perfect patio kit, and opted to pick it up since it was about $400 cheaper than having it delivered. When we received the email that our order was ready for pickup, it said the hours were Monday - Friday from 7am-3pm. My husband took a Friday off from work and had friend take a half day off so they could load the kit onto a Uhaul. When my husband called to find out what size Uhaul he would need, they said that the warehouse that he would be picking up from was closed that day due to inventory, even though it was a Friday. We called Patio Kits Direct to see if we could pick up on a weekend and they said they would offer free shipping instead for the inconvenience. The following week, my husband received a text saying that the they were unable to deliver to our address, but were willing to deliver it to the Costco, which is about a 3 minute drive from our house. Considering we would still need to rent a Uhaul to pick it up from Costco, we said that would not work. They stated that the reason they weren't able to deliver to our neighborhood is because of the size of the truck making the delivery is too big to drive through residential neighborhoods, even though the biggest piece in our order is about 15 feet. If it's true that a truck that size is not big enough to drive through a residential neighborhood, why would they even offer shipping? Aren't a majority of homes in residential neighborhoods? For all of the inconvenience, they offered us $150 off our order total, which is less than a 3% discount. We are still waiting to see when and how we can get our kit, or a full refund. read more

I highly recommend PKD for your DIY patio cover project! Deena is wonderful to work with and very helpful. I made many revisions to our desing in the beginning and she was very patient and revised our quote numerous times to ensure we were getting exactly what we wanted. She also made some recommendations that turned out great! I have already referred a couple of friends and family to them since they have seen our cover and loved how it turned out. We chose the solid insulated panels with the ducts for wiring to add lights and fans. It takes your patio to a new level and turns it into a whole other living space for you to enjoy day and night. As skeptical as I was , I ordered a patio kit online and not being a craftsman of any sort My experience was probably the best it could be . So I ordered a 14x32x9 solid insulated DIY kit . It showed up and one of the pieces of aluminum was dented . I was super pissed . So I called the company directly , not only was I met with the friendliest person on the other end of the line ( I think his name was Bill , I may have that wrong . I smoke a lot of pot ) but they sent a replacement the next day and arrived a day later . I was honestly expecting some sort of a fight but ..... They were super understanding . We were super excited to find this as we were looking to redo our backyard and patio. We stopped by the showroom and met Deena who was very nice and helpful. Getting a quote and placing our order was easy. Unfortunately the 3 stars is because of their Anaheim pickup location. We decided to pick up the cover ourselves to save the $300 delivery charge. My husband when down the Friday before Easter and had a terrible experience. The long piece that was supposed to be cut in half to fit in a truck for transport was not cut so one of the workers had to cut it there. He completely butchered it and when my husband refused to take the jagged and destroyed pieces, the other worker was so rude and confrontational with him. The man in charge was apparently very nice but he clearly hires disrespectful individuals. Remember whoever you associate with your business is a direct reflection on you and they should treat your customers with respect as well. Also there were supposed to be instructions included which were missing which delayed our construction of the patio. Perhaps consider paying the $ for delivery. read more
