After my first initial appointment which I somehow received after several attempts of contact ... including emailing Eric to finally get a returned call. I made it very, very clear to the technician diagnosing my sinuses - I could not do a sinus surgery until after June. They said fine, but I should do a (very expensive) CT scan and a sleep study in the mean time. I did the CT scan, foolishly. Afterward, I received many calls from Vicki in surgery who apparently was not informed of this fact regarding my timeline. I explained this to her-so I thought and said we would talk in June. ... Both the CT and sleep study required insurance approval. The CT after much of my own policing of the staff was eventually approved ... 50% coverage because it was out of network... (which I did not find out until later.) However, the task of the sleep study approval went off to some unnamed nurse which the staff-themselves said they could not reach. ... (The staff never got back to me about this mystery nurse ... and while I waited, I ended up simply getting a sleep study done at Scripps. ...) (I never told Mansfield's staff about this; namely because they haven't reached out to update me on their progress on their end. ... ever. It was always me trying to reach them.) But by all this time, I'd already racked up a $1,000 bill. And July came around... after weeks of trying to reach Vicki in surgery, I finally received a returned call ... she seemed chastened by my persistence... and she informed me my CT scan on my sinuses had to "redone" because it was too old now in order to do the surgery. ... She said she would look into insurance approval of a second CT. This was in July and I have not heard back. Today before writing this review I decided to try one final effort; calling all three of Mansfield's appointment lines ~4pm on a weekday- (general appointments, scans, and surgery). No one picked up ... as per usual. ... Awful, awful service. And scammed out of $1,000 ...

Over the past week, I called multiple times, on different days and at different times, regarding a refill of her daily blood pressure medication. I left voicemails and messages and received no response. When I finally reached someone, I was told the prescription would not be refilled until she was seen in the office. I explained that my mother recently suffered a femur fracture and is currently unable to come into the office. She has been taking this medication regularly for years, and it was continued throughout her recent hospitalization. Despite explaining that she was completely out of medication, I was told the request would need to be approved by the doctor. Unfortunately, no one followed up, and subsequent calls again went unanswered. My concern is not simply the refill itself, but the lack of communication and inability to reach anyone when an elderly patient has an urgent medication issue. Patients and caregivers should be able to receive timely responses regarding essential medications. Because of this experience, I am now looking for a new primary care physician for my mother.

Only for the San Diego location:…read more This was by far one of the worst medical office experiences I've ever had. The issue is not the doctor, it's the team running the office. I had an appointment scheduled for 8:30 AM and was not seen until around 11:00-11:30 AM. That's nearly a three-hour wait in the waiting room, followed by additional waiting time inside the exam room for the doctor. Completely unacceptable, especially for a primary care office where scheduling should be managed properly. It was very clear this is a systemic issue. While I was waiting, multiple patients were complaining about the same thing. This is not a one-time situation, this is how the office operates. The lack of organization didn't stop there. After my visit around June or July, it took about a month just for the referral to be sent to my insurance, which didn't receive it until August. Because of that delay, my authorization eventually expired. Now months later, as of March 31, I called to request a new authorization. They took my information and said they would call me back, but they never did. I understand systems can go down, but there is no follow-up, no accountability, and no sense of urgency. The front desk and administrative staff are extremely inefficient, unresponsive, and disorganized. For a team this small, there is no excuse for this level of poor service. Again, the doctor herself was not the problem, but the team completely undermines the entire experience and patient care process. I would strongly advise others to avoid this office unless they are prepared to deal with excessive wait times, delayed referrals, and no follow-up. This office needs serious management intervention.

Having said that, I would not recommend this doctor to my worst enemy. I should have known that this was not going to be a good experience when I entered the office which can be generously described as shabby, outdated and has a general aura of uncleanliness about it - complete with a DOG RUNNING LOOSE IN THE OFFICE. Now, I'm not a bigot, but I do believe that it is important for a doctor to be at least understandable when they speak. This is not the case here. Dr Schein and her substitute doctor both speak Tagalog fluently and English less so. Dr Schein is a less than active listener. She doesn't answer questions adequately, if at all, and rarely addresses the issues that I have come into the office for in the first place. She latches on to one issue (in my case, being fat) and doesn't let go. I know I'm fat, I don't need to be reminded over and over and over and have my injuries sustained in a vehicle accident ignored, for example. Dr Schein and her staff have no concept of what HIPAA entails. They leave exam room doors open while talking to patients, talk to one another at the top of their lungs and use patient identifying information in open areas. Their workspace for calling labs, pharmacies , etc., is right out in the open where patients have to walk through to get to the exam rooms, which open right onto this area. There are open patient files and other intimate information just sitting out on the tables and countertop. Needless to say, I have changed my PCP.

Given all that trouble it took to get an appointment, I didn't expect much patient care. Expectations met. This doctor makes the ER look like a good alternative. I'm being generous with the one star.

Taylor through the online portal about three weeks ago. I am a new patient, and I entered all of my information during the booking process. At no point was I told that Dr. Taylor was not accepting new patients. Despite that, the system still allowed me to book the appointment, sent me through the process, and confirmed it. I chose Dr. Taylor at the Adams Avenue location very intentionally, because she is one of the few medical doctors there and many of the other available appointments appear to be with physician assistants. I arrived on time for my 10:00 AM appointment only to be told, after the fact, that I could not be seen because she does not accept new patients. That is not the patient's mistake. That is the clinic's mistake. A competent medical office does not allow patients to schedule appointments that were never going to be honored. A competent office does not wait until the patient is physically standing at the front desk to finally mention a restriction they should have disclosed from the start. And a competent office does not treat a patient's time as disposable because their own system is broken. This clinic needs to take responsibility for its own failures instead of pushing the consequences onto patients. If the online portal is inaccurate, fix it. If the staff knows certain doctors are not accepting new patients, stop those appointments from being booked. If management is aware of this issue and has done nothing, that is even worse. Patients should not have to pay for this clinic's disorganization with their time and energy. This was careless, misleading, and deeply unprofessional.
