Amazing ent doc I've attended him since i was five years old ! He is the best in San Diego

I have had nothing but great experiences with Dr Mazer and his staff. I've been here about 10 times. Really not sure why anyone would give them a bad review. I've been to other ENTs in SD and this office runs like a well oiled machine. Dr Mazer is so knowledgeable and is extremely patient when explaining options. Also appreciate that he views surgery as a last option and doesn't rush you into it. Love the ladies who work up front as well. They juggle so much and genuinely just want the office to run well and patients to be satisfied. I've never waited more than 5 minutes in the lobby area! Would recommend highly. read more

He is the worst doctor I have seen in my entire life. Beware, DO NOT PLAN TO VISIT HIM. His staff are simply the rudest. His office is simply the oldest in town. If you have missed jurassic park, you still have time to see it. He is so self centered pathetic snob. I really hope that he gets punished and lose his license for the way he treats his patients. I had an issue with my ears because of air flight. He simply does what he thinks right without even bothering to listen to your symptoms or complaints. It is obvious that he does not spend ANYTIME UPDATING HIS KNOWLEDGE! His tools are 80 years old and if you do not believe me go check it out. Contact me if you need more details. This review is SPECIFICALLY for Gloria, who answers phones/schedules. She has NO CLUE what customer service is .... she probably thinks it's a furniture brand. She is extremely RUDE, ARROGANT, IMPATIENT, UNPROFESSIONAL and a SMART ASS. I was referred to this doctor by my regular doctor. When I called , Gloria showed NO PHONE COURTESY and she expected me to knowwhat she was thinking and how the process works and I don't work in the medical field AT ALL She put me on hold without courtesy. After she put me on hold I even thought the communication got cut off... When I said hello a few times she rudely answered : "I'M LOOKING" "I'M LOOKING" as if I had been next to her watching her and knew what she was doing.. SHe needs to be watching animals in the zoo or fixing computers or ANYTHING away from public !!!! PLEASE !!!!!! NO MANNERS !!! This review is on the front office at Dr. Mazer's front office. My fathers appointment was changed from an AM appointment to an afternoon the morning of, while they left a voicemail on my cell. They did not ask for confirmation, as I was at work I did get the voicemail as my father went in and they told him they had moved his appointment with out his or my confirmation. One weeks later we get a bill for a missed appointment fee, I called and left a message in regards to the bill. I received a call back two days later by Jessica, I explained to her what had happened and she repeatedly became rude and accused me of lying when I told her I still had the voicemail saved. She was extremely unprofessional with a heavy accent that I could barely understand. I felt like I was calling Wal Mart not a doctor's office. These girls have no clue what customer service is about. read more

Dr. Mazer took care of a nose polyp that I had and he was truly and enjoyable Dr.. He seemed to be smart about political issues with the state of medical regulations and laws and was on TV for being an advocate for the patient. LOL I have to laugh. I have a disability due to diabetes that causes me to dry heave and commit for hours on end at times. When I wake up I have no idea how my day will be. The day of my appointment I woke up and was dry heaving for hours before I finally had to call and cancel my appt. as I was ill. The nurse calls me and said they were going to charge me $25 for not canceling the day before. I explained my situation and the Dr. Came back and said the charge is valid. At this time I was on Medi cal as I was only working part time due to my illness. He sent me to collection for $25. It is still on their and will be until it falls off or I die. He will never have the satisfaction of that ridiculous fee. When every time I went to see him I sat in the lobby or room for 30 min before ever seeing him. Both of our time is worth money, I can't charge him for being late. He is not for the patient he is for the $$. read more

I had a great experience with Dr Mazer. He always came across as reasonable and knowledgeable, and he solved my throat issues. I had a chronic sore throat for almost ten years. He recommended a cat scan and found a small sinus infection which was the cause. He then recommended a round of antibiotics, which I decided to skip as I just didn't think they would work due to long term nature of my condition, but I appreciate wanting to go that route before recommending surgery. Finally it came down to surgery. In his scrubs I saw he had pale arms. I found this reassuring because he had worn professional clothes (long sleeves) in the office. I was worried he would be trying to rush to play a round of golf or something but when I saw those pale arms I went under much more calmly. It was out-patient surgery, he cleared the infection and connected my sinuses so they can drain themselves. No more daily sore throats! read more

I had a rough start with getting an appt, but Dr. Mazer is well worth the wait! He did an amazing job with the CT scans and helping me feel reassured in the findings and treatment. I ended up needing surgery on my sinuses and that all went perfectly last week and I am well on the mend already. I can breathe so much better than I can ever remember in my entire life. Update: I had my 1 week f/u for surgery, today. I have Lupus, so I've had a lot of experience with doctors of many specialties and medical professionals of varying experience levels over the last 20 years. It is so obvious to me that Dr. Mazer is skilled and knowledgeable in what he does. He is so fast and sure when he does everything, I'm certain he could do it blindfolded and in his sleep. His years of experience are evident. He may seem to rush through the appointment, but he is also very quick to stop and answer every question, even silly ones, thoroughly. He definitely wants his patients to feel comfortable with their care and educated about what is going on. I, for one, felt really safe in his care because of both the skill and willingness to take the moments to explain details as needed to alleviate any of my fears or concerns. If you feel he is rushing with you, just ask what you are wondering, his answers are fast because he knows so much, but they are thorough, too. Definitely go here. This is an update: I never got my surgery for my cyst... he drained it and gave me antibiotics.. after two weeks it was gone completely and he told me I still needed the surgery and this is when it got BAD.. he tried to scare me into getting it still and told me in non doctor terms that I will pretty much die if I don't.. and mentioned I will have a big scar on my face.. I didn't want to do it cuz it was GONE already.. I made the appointment for the surgery and then after talking to family and friends they all told me do not! So I called to cancel and I was told I'll be fined $500! And then at 10pm I got a call from him personally and he said "it's going to come back and the infection will go to your brain and you will die" I hung up on him cuz he was soooo aggressive and mean!!! Guess what, it's been 5 years and I have had ZERO problems! None. I went to another ENT just to make sure and he said I made the right choice not going for the surgery and couldn't believe it. Now I have a $500 fine in collections from him that I'll never pay, I'll wait for it to fall off. Don't go to him. read more

I have seen Dr. Mazer several times for a throat issue. He is a very knowledgeable and caring physician and I have enjoyed not only his visits with him but also his very nice office staff.. Dr. Mazer has been able to help me with a lengthy throat issue and even called me at home when I had a sudden coughing problem. I was referred to Dr. Mazer by my GP. I went in concerned about a lump on one of my salivary glands. The staff and Dr. Mazer were professional. I found him to be kind of funny too, when he said he was excited about a lump on a parotid gland because it's soooo rare. I'm a pre-med student so I totally understood his excitement. He even complimented me on my knowledge of head anatomy, which made me proud. I genuinely liked him. My problem is that I apparently missed an appointment and a balance was sent to collections. I was sent to get a scan of my head, and a few weeks later. Dr. Mazer called me saying there was no calcification apparent so I didn't required surgery for now and to just keep an eye on it and to make an appointment if i have any concerns. That being said, I was under the impression that my follow up appointment was cancelled. I received a call about missing an appointment and owing $25 as a result. I called back and told them the situation I mentioned. She apologized for the miscommunication and told me it would be taken care of. I was satisfied with that. It's about a year and a half later now. And I just happened to be curious about my credit report... And what do I see? An open collection from Ted Mazer for $28. $28 is not a big deal to me, however, the fact I haven't received any notices before sending it to collections really annoys me and the fact that the receptionist said she'd take care of it... Maybe sending to collections is her idea of taking care of it; I don't know. I'm only taking off 1 star because: 1) It was a miscommunication issue in which I'm partially to blame because I made assumptions and 2) it such a little cost.It really is not that big of a deal to me. I'm going to just call them and pay it, because this lump is bigger now and irritating me, so I need to see him again. Hopefully zero problems this time. :) read more

Dr. Mazer took care of my bleeding nose problem. He was EXCELLENT!!!. He explained the problems that I had and the risks that I faced. He then proceeded to explain each of the steps that he took to take care of my medical problem. I could not have asked for, or gotten, a better treatment than the one I received from Dr. Mazer. Don't really know why there's bad reviews. Dr. Mazer is a great doctor. He's sharp. He spotted something my dermatologist told me was "a scar" - it was not. Been seeing him for years. Usually the office is packed, so the wait is long some days, but not all the time, despite the practice being busy. Dr. Mazer is not rude or quick when he sees me. He cares about his patients and is thorough when discussing treatment options. Glad he's my doctor. read more

Horrible !!! I normally dont write bad review but its so bad i have to let others know. My husband got prefered from another doctor to doctor Mazer. We went there twice and the doctor keep refuse to remove his tonsil, said he's not sick enough by the tonsil, keep recommend to come back for check up. 2 months later, I received a call from their office saying my insurance didn't cover for the 2 visits and I have to pay full price. After back and forth, they settled, they would take half and I just wanna get over with it so I gave them my credit card info and I thought it was it.. Guess what??? A month later I received a collection letter saying I didn't pay yet !!!! This whole thing from staff to doctor is a NIGHTMARE!!! Do NOT go to this doctor office !!! I had a good experience at my appointment today. I met with Dr. Mazer and he was very thorough with his examination, asked me questions about my symptoms and ran all kinds of tests. This doctor comes with 30+ years of experience as well as certifications and awards. I'm not sure what the negatives reviews are about but I personally did not experience anything negative with my appointment. I would recommend this doctor. read more

This guy is amazing.. Amazingly bad. I thought that I'd give him a chance despite the bad reviews, but where another reviewer said that he is rude, pompous, aggressive.. sadly, I found myself in agreement with that perspective. Although I am reluctant to write a "bad review," let a detailed one, I feel compelled to advise other would-be clients. Mazer is the single most arrogant, patronizing, dismissive practitioner I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. You would think that having some prior Physician notes/referral information on-hand to share if needed might be intelligent, but instead of being polite, he irritatedly and rapidly flipped through a few pages, selectively interpreted the notes to "find no issue," scribbling down piecemeal information that paints a different story than the big picture (which is NOT what the professional opinions and notes state at all), while throwing rapid questions at me as if an interrogation. Hence the "patronizing" and "dismissive" declarations. I dont know if he was just having a bad day or is on something, but his arrogance (as another reviewer states) is present in his body language and intonation: while talking rapidly AT you and not WITH you, he bobbles his head side to side as if subtly "telling you off," smirks smugly as if he likes the sound of his own voice.. and you get the impression that rather than being spoken to professionally, you're treated like some kind of idiot or child being scolded. In addition, he made ad hoc commentary on things well outside his area of expertise on things he had no business commenting on, and based solely on merely glancing at me during discussion (if you can call it that).. not an actual exam. What more, Mazer even grabbed the aforementioned notes and, asserts, while sarcastically flopping them around in the air, "your insurance won't pay me to look at this!" Slapping the notes on the table, he sternly adds, "but YOU'RE welcome to pay me the time it will take to look at them." So, I also find true the other reviews stating that this practice is insurance and money-driven, not patient-oriented.. specifically, I get the impression that Mazer: A) doesn't like my type of insurance and didn't want to take me as a patient due to lower reimbursement rates (ie, second-class citizen status) B) does not like the official professional, consistent, diagnosis/condition I was seeking ENT treatment for (which is a controversial diagnosis to some ENTs, who don't like it because it means they can't go around chopping up noses with impunity to rake in money anymore), but C) because he can't say either, found an excuse to not do anything by being irate and selectively interpreting notes. If you like apathetic bullies, this is your guy. read more

On July 21, 2015, I went to his office for a broken nose. I brought the medical records and x-rays from the hospital with me to the appointment. Dr. Mazer spent less than 1 minute reviewing the medical records I brought and did not review the x-rays. After failing to properly review the records and x-rays, Dr. Mazer told me he could correct my nose with manual manipulation. I believe that if he had reviewed the records properly and examined the x-rays, he would have known that manual manipulation would not correct the deviation. It was very badly broken. A simple manual manipulation would not fix the extensive damage my nose had suffered. Dr. Mazer told me that he disfavored the use anesthesia. He did not present it as a real option for me. Rather, he told me that he used a breathing technique. His breathing technique consisted of "one, two, three, hold your breath." So, he grabbed my face, then said, "one, two, three, hold your breath." When I held my breath as instructed, he roughly, manually adjusted my nose. It was excruciating. After his first attempt, it was still not straight, so he tried again. "One, two, three, hold your breath." Again, he adjusted it manually with no pain medication, at all. I was bleeding and involuntarily crying. (I never cried when the girl fell on my face in the trust fall incident and have birthed children with no tears. This pain was worse.) He made me get up and walk to another office to look at my nose in the mirror. It was still not straight. So, for a third time, he said "one, two, three, hold your breath." For a third time in less than 8 minutes, he broke my nose again attempting to adjust it. At this point, I am pretty sure I was in shock. I just sat there, bloody and crying. He gave me some instructions on post-care, none of which I could remember as I was in shock. He gave me nothing for pain. Then, he took his hand and waved at me to move along and get out of the room. He told me to schedule an appointment with his receptionist. I called back when I could. Rather than apologize for his gross incompetence, he was as rude and brutal to me verbally as he had been physically. He caused me extensive, completely unnecessary pain. There was no reason to re-break my nose three times, especially when doing so would not resolve my inability to breathe properly. read more

Terrible experience. He did not review tge xrays. He said he could fix my broken nose there in the office. He said he did not use pain killers or anything. He just said hold your breath. He the proceeded to manually reset my nose. Three times! With no pain killers. Not even tylenol. Excruciating pain. Horrifying. read more

The receptionist is awful. Literally the worst I've ever had to deal with it. She's extremely rude, and when I asked her - mulitple times over the course of a month - to relay my response to the doctor's messages, I later found out she never did. For over a month the doctor literally thought I was ignoring him, when I was actually trying desperately to communicate with him to get treated. The receptionist would tell me "Yes I'll tell him" every time I called to respond to the doc's messages, but she never actually did. She doesn't value or respect patients and doesn't take her job seriously at all. I was eventually forced to find a different provider. Dr. Mazer's receptionist prevents me from giving his business anything higher than 1 star. I'd give it a zero if I could. His receptionist is literally making him lose customers. Please avoid this establishment at all costs unless you want to deal with a lying, unhelpful receptionist. read more

It was my wife first appoinment, she got the directions from her Family Doctor, but the gps was sending her to a wrong address, she check again with same results, she calls at Dr Mazer office to ask for directions on how to get there, the Dr. assistant was rude, never give directions to my wife on how to get there, my wife got tired not getting help so she told the assistant that she's not going to make it. Hours later my wife receive a call, it was the Dr. Mazer and start to yelling at her, my wife tried to explain the problem but the Dr. kept shouting over the phone, after that, the assistant told my wife that she was going to charge her for the miss appoinment. It's really unbelievable that the Dr. and the assistant calls to a patient and start yelling at them, they supposed to give a good service, i really don't understand what they're thinking. read more

I was referred to Dr. Mazer for tinnitus which started after the flu. My regular doctor said it is usually treated with Prednisone but since I'm allergic, he sent me to a specialist. Dr. Mazer put me through some tests which didn't show anything in particular and told me that the next step would be treatment with Prednisone. I told him I'm allergic - I had taken it twice in the past and within 48 hours ended up with a full body rash. Dr. Mazer said our bodies produce prednisone and he just didn't want to believe my allergy. He eventually convinced me to try a different version of Prednisone and to take benadryl if I got a rash, and to call first thing Monday to let him know how I was doing (my appt was on a Friday AM). I stupidly agreed, since he's supposedly an expert. So, Sunday night, 48 hours after starting the Prednisone, the allergic rash started just like I told him it would. I took benadryl as directed and had a very uncomfortable night. I called Monday morning and left a message about the allergic reaction. No response all day. At 9pm I got a call from a blocked number and Dr. Mazer left a message saying he was checking on me, and told me continue the prednisone. Of course I couldn't call back and actually talk to him because he didn't leave a number, so all this did was make it look like he was following up. Tuesday morning the rash was even worse and I called Dr. Mazer's office at least 3 times trying to reach him. I ended up having to leave work because I was getting dizzy (another side effect), and called my health insurer to talk to a nurse. She recommended that I go to the ER, which is also what was recommended by the prednisone inserts. Of course they stopped the prednisone and gave me several other drugs to counteract the allergic reaction. While I was being treated, I finally got a call back from Dr. Mazer. He left a message to KEEP TAKING the prednisone and the benadryl! I still have the tinnitus, but now also a large bill from the ER in addition to the bill from Dr. Mazer. read more

Dr. Mazer has been known to diagnosis patients incorrectly while providing terrible bedside manners. After reading all the other reviews online, I guess I'm not alone in thinking this. He does not believe nor does he practice an important oath doctor's take upon graduating medical school ... that is, treat human beings worthy of respect and compassion. I personally have experienced the arrogance of this doctor. During my last medical visit, he was more of interrogating than helping me as a patient. He accused me of shopping around for a different doctor which simply caught me off guard. I wondered what could he talking about, since he's my primary doctor! He raised his voice and used a very negative attitude while treating me. I left feeling defeated and horrible. He insulted me and felt demeaned by a "doctor" who should have been more caring and more focused on finding a resolution to my condition. Aside from his lack of companion and his bad demeanor, Dr. Mazer refuses to fill out the proper State documentation that's been asked of him for the past three months. He insists that he is not treating me anymore and is why he has referred me to another doctor. Instead of the filling out the proper State form, he said he wrote a letter to the State regarding my condition a few months back...the thing is, the State does not want a letter, they need him to fill out the form which he refuses to do. Without the proper form, I will not receive my benefits. Dr. Mazer said that he does not take orders and will not fill out the form and that it's up to the State to determine whether or not I get approved. All he needs to do is accurately fill out the Request for Medical Information form and then return to the State so that I can receive my money. I currently have no money and about to lose my home to foreclosure. I do not recommend Dr. Mazer to anyone seeking medical help. read more

Dr Mazer along with his secretary was unhelpful, rude, and inappropriate. Called to request results of a test and the secretary treated me with little respect and acted as if her own job was bothersome to her. The doctor called me back very unprofessionally at night and DEFENDED his secretary's rude behavior and scolded me for the conversation. He then uselessly told me to take over the counter meds (which i forgot to write down). The next day when i followed up to ask which meds to take I was greeted again by the rude secretary. I was scolded again by the doctor for the conversation. Look at the complaints made by all these people and use it productively and improve your business! Why risk business for an unprofessional clerk? instead find a way to train her with customer service classes and you can use some yourself. read more

A very unpleasant experience and one that effected my health and literally put my life in jeopardy. This man made rude comments about my facial features. He walked into the room and the first thing out of his mouth was that he did not like my face. He said my face was a perfect example of why he never got into cosmetic surgery. I suffer depression and anxiety and I can tell you that that comment messed me up bad and sent me into a deep deep depression. I found it a terrible way to meet a physician. I was excited to see a real doctor. I had not been to a speacialist for years. I was so unhappy with how horrible he treated me. I felt he hated me from the moment he looked at me. He misdiagnosed my deviated septum and said it was fine, even though I could not breath through my one nostril. I told him that I was swollowing air from the cpap machine and that it was giving me bad stomach cramps, gas and belching. He told me that that was not possible. He said a cpap does not have that much air pressure. I was in shock because I knew it was true and it is well known in the cpap community as a common problem called aerophagia. Well he ordered my a new kind of cpap, (even though aerophangia does not exist in his world). I became homeless and needed a note stating that I needed shelter for a place to plug in my cpap machine. Due to a 50 dollar "late cancellation fee", I was never to get a note or further services until late cancellation fee was paid. The doctor called me and told me the bill would go to collections if not paid in 30 days and i was cut off from service. I tried to plead my case but he would not listen. I even sent a lengthly email about my situation but never had a reply. Obviously this guy has no idea how sleep apnea makes you feel and being homeless on top of that makes it almost impossible to make it to appointments period. I have to literally walk for 16 miles to get to his office. One way... I have no money, like ever, and I told this doctor as much. I have never had a doctor call me personally but I have received three calls from Theo over the 50 dollar bill and how it is in collections, ect. I wish he cared for my heath as much as he does that 50 bucks. I found it really odd that a doctor would call me over a bill. I think it may be unheard of actually. He has the hipporatic oath on the wall in his waiting room. I found it interesting that in the oath on his office waiting room wall, it says that any physician refusing to treat someone based on economic status would in return lose everything they have... It sounded like a curse or a warning or something. And the do no harm part, lol. How about not being able to plug cpap in to breath at night and having an ENT that wont write you a note because he is mad about 50 dollars and is being hostile about it. The dude literally hated me the moment he saw me. The Hippocratic Oath pledges, in part, that all doctors "apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures which are required..."Now if I carry out this oath, and break it not, may I gain for ever reputation among all men for my life and for my art; but if I transgress it and forswear myself, may the opposite befall me... Sounds like a curse to me.. His office staff play games as well. I can tell when being manipulated or shuffled around and this was the case. Maybe not the whole staff but there are a couple of bad apples in there causing trouble on purpose. Trying to get my cpap and sleep studies approved was a nightmare that took months and months. I was without a way to breath at night, period. I had no access to electricity. In order for me to get a new referal, I needed something stating that Dr. Mazer was refusing to treat me. I tried and tried to get a letter from them or a note saying I could not be treated until I paid the 50 late fee that is now in collections. No letter meant no new referal. He ignored me of course. I then found on the bill where he wrote that until paid I could not see him again. Bingo! It had taken me two months to figure out a way to get a new ENT. I lost 30 pounds during those months and could have easily had a stroke or died from not being treated by this man. He is very angry. He took a lot of it out on me because I was an easy target. I called my insurance and asked for a new ENT and I got an excellent new ent from South America. He did three surgeries that have fixed my apnea, Theo failed to see I had a deviated septum. Got that fixed now thanks to him refusing to see me... Maybe I should give it five stars for the way it turned out... Btw, this is the only doctor's office where the phone is a busy signal half the time you call. I tried to call many times to no avail.. Impossible to get through... Proceed with caution. I had to write a review from letting people know how bad of an experience I've had, I think this is my first review I have done, I wish I could do more then just write a review with how they treat people but I would not recommend this place for anyone. Unless you like to be disrespected and not taken care of at all, DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE. Unfortunately the experience starts with the first phone call to make an appointment. I talked with Gloria and she is VERY rude and unprofessional. About a year ago I got a surgery to help with a deviated septum and Doctor Mazer made it worse than before... I have a huge hole inside my nose that whistles and is always irritated, I had went to a follow up appointment a little after the surgery was done and then scheduled another one a couple months away from the previous appointment there was no courtesy call so I missed the appointment... they send me a fine for that missed appointment. I called to see if there was anything they could do about it and they were extremely rude on the phone. It just turned me off so I did not end up going back. So fast forward a year with having my nose worse than before the surgery I decided after both my nose holes started bleeding out of no where that I need to get this fixed. When my regular doctor saw my nose and agreed that it looks really bad... She had got me an approval to have me go see Doctor Mazer again I called and scheduled an appointment, hesitant of my first experience I called and scheduled the appointment, a couple days before Gloria calls and leaves a cold voicemail saying that the appointment needs to be cancelled and they won't be seeing me. When I call back to try to understand that voicemail, wondering do they need to reschedule or what? They said that they refuse to see me again. I started asking how that works when a Doctor messes up on a procedure how he can just refuse a patient that needs help and to get it fixed, Gloria starts having a HUGE attitude telling me no one messed up... When I explained that in fact my nose is messed up that's why I am trying to make a second appointment she then said.. AND WHERE IS YOUR MEDICAL BACKGROUND? I seriously can't believe how these people talk to patients and get away with it... I am literally shocked after being in customer service for years and knowing what customer service is, how is this practice is even open? I really recommend not going here and finding a Doctor and staff that is going to make you feel loved and comfortable. I remember getting a bad vibe the first time I was there and Gloria was rude to an elderly lady that wasn't understanding the instructions and Gloria got the nastiest attitude with her too! I remembered thinking, "maybe she's having a bad day"... nope these people are not happy people obviously because it comes out everyday, when you treat people like this it's not ok. I see TONS of reviews on Doctor Mazer and Gloria, PLEASE DON'T GO TO THEM, save yourself a really bad experience and go somewhere else. He's not even a good Doctor... It will save you from having to go back and get it fixed. read more
