The debacle at Frank's Automotive I had my Toyota Corolla…read moretowed to this shop for repair. Their diagnosis was that the exhaust cam sprocket had sheered the pin, and broke the bolt, which in turn bent some valves. A head job was performed, and several new valves installed. The "repair" was done and I paid them $1700. The first time that they started the car up I noticed a very loud metallic clicking. I was told that it was nothing to be worried about, and that it might go away with time. Five minutes after we left the shop the engine warning light came on. I took the car back and they reset the code. Five minutes after we left again same light came on, so we took it back again. This time they "concluded" that dirt had gotten into the engine and an oil change would fix the problem. I assumed that they thought this would make the clicking go away. After the oil change we left again, and five minutes later same light came on again, and the clicking was even louder. Before this repair was done, and before this problem arose, the engine made no loud clicking whatsoever. When I confronted them about this they said that my car had service bulletins against it and that there was nothing they could do about it. I looked this up on Toyotas website and found this to be not true. By that time I had had enough with that shop, and took my car to a certified Toyota facility. They concluded that the new valves installed by Frank's Automotive were ground 1/16" too short, and that the VVTI actuator and VVTI control valve were also damaged. A new head job was performed and now the car runs great, with no clicking. I would not recommend Frank's Automotive to anybody. These guys are amateur mechanics at best, and do not stand behind their "work". After talking to local people about this shop, I have found out that others have similar stories, too bad that they did not post reviews about it.
