Current day, 10k miles later & 3 years on the transmission, it went again. Even though the 2 year warranty expired, the low miles traveled we were able to work out a fair agreement were I pay for the cost of parts and they pay for all other cost such as labor, disposal or special fees. It took 2.5 weeks to get to the agreement. Then another 5.5 weeks of repairs only for them to tell us that the rebuilt transmission was doing the exact same thing that it was brought back in for 8 weeks ago. Another couple days and they determined what it was. And the saga continues; They sent that part out to be rebuilt. It was returned, delivered and stolen off their doorstep. They had to order & pay for another and get it installed. Here we are after 10 weeks without my truck. Truck in hand now and seems to be fine. How many stars would you have gave?

I took my beloved 2017 Ram 3500 to Barrett based on reading their reviews. The truck had 830,000…read moremiles on it when they serviced the Aisin Transmission, which is the original and never rebuilt. I noticed when I picked the truck up that the water and fuel light was on and I thought that was a strange coincidence. Over the years this light has come on two or three times after a car wash, and it's an easy fix to clean out the water in the sensor connection. I did that and even replaced the sensor in the rear fuel water separator. The light was still on, even though the fuel looked clean, so I ended up taking it to a shop in Oak Harbor before driving to the Tetons, as that light was bothering me. It turns out the technician at Barrett had inadvertently pinched some wires that ran along the crossmember below the transmission mount when he reattached the cross number. Thus the cause of the water and fuel light. Barrett was extremely honorable and covered the cost of those wire repairs, and the shops diagnostic fee. So the only thing I was out was the cost of a water and fuel sensor and time. At the time of this post, the truck has nearly 832,000 miles as I just did a trip to Teton Valley and back to Washington and the transmission ran beautifully. The service work the technician did was otherwise perfect and this type of mistake could happen to anyone, so I do not fault Barrett and I would gladly use them again and intend to. The fact that they honored this situation without question is an indication of a shop that has integrity.

I came in…read morewith the recommendation of several of my ASE mechanic friends from different local repair shops as I had red fluid pouring out between my tranny and motor. Mark assured me that they'll take an assessment of the issue and get back to me before doing any work. Later in the day I received a phone call from Mark. He shared with me the red fluid was not tranny fluid, however, the specialized coolant my duramax requires. He went on to describe that all fluid levels were appropriate and the tranny and transfer case were in fine shape. Despite feeling a bit embarrassed about not differentiating the difference between the tranny vs coolant fluids, I was extremely grateful that they did not take advantage of me and, instead, went on to show me where the issued was. Such honesty goes a long way these days. Based upon numerous recommendations from mechanics I trust and respect, and Barrett transmission's honesty (and the time they took to further investigate and show me the issue)., I'll be back with any transmission issues or maintenance needs that I might have. I first went to a different shop in PA which sent me here because they thought the whole transmission was bad (I was skeptical of this because to me it really felt like the clutch was slipping, but I figured a transmission place would still be able to work on a clutch, whereas a regular shop might not be able to do transmission work if that was actually the problem). Bayview could have taken advantage of me because they knew I was stuck out of town and had a 2-3 week lead time for most work. They also could have told me that it was the transmission and charged a lot for fixing that. However, they agreed that it was just the clutch and got me in and out with a new clutch in under 2 days. Being a city slicker, I also ended up actually saving money overall, since labor charges are relatively low here compared to in Seattle. The new clutch felt great from the start (unlike the bad one that grated and crunched in 1 and R from the beginning, which the installers refused to acknowledge, despite the grating and crunching continuing for almost 2 years) and has been performing as expected since. If I ever needed a transmission rebuild that wasn't an emergency situation, I might honestly consider coming out here for the work and making a trip out of it. Also, the desk people were super nice!

My 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan with just under 60,000 miles on it dropped into "limp" mode driving up…read morethe Fairholme hill on my way home to Forks. I had to drive it home in 2nd gear. When I started it the next day, it no longer went into limp mode. I crossed my fingers, hoping it had "fixed itself," but a few days later it happened again. I called Tranco and talked to Mitch. He explained that "limp" mode can be caused by many things, but gave me a few things to look for. He also explained how to check the transmission fluid level, since the van doesn't come provided with a dipstick. He suggested that I take the van to a local garage so that they could put it on a scanner to make sure that the problem was transmission-related. I took his advice. The problem was transmission related, but it wasn't always there. It would drive fine one day, then go to "limp" mode the next. I called back to Tranco and talked to Brian. He explained that it's difficult to diagnose an intermittent problem. I explained that I couldn't trust driving the van anymore. He checked for technical service bulletins. He saw that there was an available control module update, but the Dodge dealer would have to do it. When I told him how far away I lived, and asked if he could help me get it fixed, he agreed to let me leave the van long enough for them to drive it enough to diagnose and repair it. So I dropped it off for a couple of weeks. He made the appointment at the dealer and got the update done. The module update added diagnostic capability. That, combined with driving the van like it was his own when he had a reason to go somewhere, enabled him to diagnose the problem with confidence. One of the clutches in the transmission was sloppy -- basically worn out. Brian clearly explained how he'd come to the conclusions that he had, and clearly described what they would do to make sure that the problem was properly fixed. My background includes having run my own garage for 26 years, and having been an ASE-certified master mechanic. Everything Brian said to me made sense. I told him to go ahead and rebuild the transmission. The price was reasonable, especially considering the good service they had already provided to me. We got the van back three months ago. I'm pleased to say that the transmission performs astoundingly well. It's better now that it was when we bought it. The shift points are so smooth that they're barely detectable. It drives like a different vehicle. I've fixed and replaced a lot of Dodge van transmissions in my life, but none of them drove as well as the one that Tranco built for me. Their rebuilder is a master builder. Their service is topnotch.
