I got 2 dry aged Delmonico steaks that came out to be ~$90, so $45 each, and for the size and quality, I thought it was super worth for our semi- fancy at home dinner. It came with garlic butter, which i did think couldve been more garlicky, but the steak was so tender and delicious. The shop is quite small, so there may be a wait, but staff are super friendly! Stopped by Ottomanelli to pick up some organ meats. This was my first time going and I always had the impression that it would be significantly overpriced. However, it was not. It was right on par with the prices I've been paying at other shops. The portion of the liver was huge, three large pieces, which I was also impressed with. I am not sure who writes these rave reviews. I don't believe them. I live around the corner and I now only go there when I can't get to Florence Meat Market in the village. The meat cuts at Ottomanelli's are average to bad, the prices?-extraordinary. The service? Horrendous, rude, sloppy, absolutely no grace. I am sure the staff learns from their bosses/managers. Although I haven't bought meat from them for awhile (excellent quality), they have prepared food which I buy frequently: stuffed cabbage rolls, carrot soufflé, cooked chicken burgers and an excellent Caesar salad. Ottomanelli Bros. Is historic. My friend Gary told me that they have a really good bran muffin. The employee said they were sold out and if I wanted one I need to get there 7:30 am when they open! The muffins are huge and are only $2.50! I decided to try the Coffee Cinnamon for breakfast tomorrow. I may call them one day and ask them to hold a bran muffin for me. I'm determined to try it. I love these old school businesses. When you walk in and see the sawdust on the floor you're stepping into history. With over 100 years here in Yorkville it's one of the last real butcher shops. Still family owned and operated. Quality meats, along with a variety of other items such as stews, pastas, soups, sauces, sausages, seasonings, spaghetti & meatballs, chicken cutlets, and sandwiches made to order. Anything I have brought home from the place has been delicious. Knowledgeable staff. Can be a bit more pricey than the local supermarkets, but you're buying from a real 100 year old butcher shop and supporting a long time local biz. read more

When I saw the name "Ottomanelli" on the awning, I just had to stop by. When it comes to meat, Ottomanelli means quality. There's a bunch of NYC Ottomanelli locations from the same family (who established themselves in the early 1900s), but they're all independently operated (far as I can tell), so it's a bit confusing. Here's what I've uncovered from the deep rabbithole I went down trying to map out the Ottomanelli businesses in NYC: My introduction to them was F. Ottomanelli in Sunnyside, Queens (which combined with S. Ottomanelli to create a joint butcher and burger place). They are cousins with the most famous O. Ottomanelli & Sons on Bleecker (who was in the news a few years back for some... bad things. Look it up). And then this shop on 82nd street is Ottomanelli Bros, aka Ottomanelli Butcher Shoppe is from the same family. Phew. That was a lot. All that research calls for some food. Luckily, in addition to some beautiful cuts of meat, Ottomanelli Bros also has some amazing lunch specials. I got their special of the day - a sirloin lasagna, which was just perfect. Also got some chicken liver mousse, which was delicious and probably a third of the cost it would be downtown. Plus they have a whole sandwich menu. The chicken salad is very good. Best of all, the prices are amazing for the quality you get. When you walk in, you are definitely transported back in time to a sort of Sopranos vibe. The floor is dusted with (I'm guessing) sawdust so if you're wearing dress shoes, just take an extra second as you walk in. Ordered a chicken parm hero as per the suggestion of the owner (?). While the sammich was a monster sammich for just $12, there was nothing that really stood out in terms of flavor. I will say the breaded chicken was fresh and not at all hard tack like many other delis that sell chicken parms. Would I go back? Sure, if I'm in the area. I love their frozen food and the sandwich part. I am severely vision impaired and for the first time attempted to engage one of the butchers. He belittled me for not being able to follow what he was pointing to and showing me. It's not fun to have to say you are disabled and I plan my days in such a way that I can pass, so I rarely have to. I used to live right across the street from Ottomanelli's and the first thing we got when we moved in was a grill. Now many people, in fact, most, when I mention that I lived on the UES, and way over on York, would inevitably make a derisive comment. I just smile. They've never had a fresh ottomanelli's steakburger dripping copious amounts of fat on a hot grill in their backyard. That's so tender, it requires more power to bite through the bread than the burger. Yet held together in a nice crust (okay, that's my doing). It's just the highest quality burger I've eaten in NY. Every bite is flavorful and satisfying. They've never had the lamb kebabs and copious amounts of wine/sangria, with close friends and even some random strangers without the facades, the games, or the small talk. They've never had the frozen raviolis, smoked mozzarella and asparagus. OR their vodka sauce. AWESOME. They've never had a perfectly marbled NY strip that can be cut with the wrong side of a knife, with Otto's own dry rub (which they give for free if you ask). I live just down the block from this place, and don't seem to go here too often, which is a huge mistake. They are a top notch butcher. They have everything under the sun and everything is fresh and great quality. I have bought a pork loin from them once and it was probably the best quality of meat I have had in a long time. They will cut anything to your specifications, they will dress, stuff or marinate how you please as well. I also went in here the other day to order a sandwich for lunch (prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, tomato, pesto sauce and a little olive oil on cibatta...YUM) and couldn't believe how incredible the sandwich was. I haven't had prosciutto that fresh on a sandwich in a long time (and I have been searching!). There was a terrific balance of ratios of meat to cheese to tomatoes and the flavors kicked Italian ass. Not only is the perfect food a reason to go in itself, but the service is also awesome, everyone is very nice, helpful and always smiling. It's truly one of those small shops that you will go to again and again and become a regular. I know I'm hooked! Make sure you go here and try it out. OK, I went back for the same sandwich. Unoriginal, I know (is there an AA for sandwiches?). But it was just as good this time. So this deli definitely prides itself on consistency. I went early in the AM to grab my sandwich, while all other patrons were ordering breakfast sandwiches. It smelled so delicious in there! While I was waiting in line, I saw this place sells steak cut bacon. That's right. Steak. Cut. Bacon. I am all over that! Everything here is delicious! I rarely come for meats and instead usually pick up their prepared food. Tried the Italian combo sandwich today and it was as good as they say. They also (surprisingly) have delicious coffee that is way more affordable than anything else in the neighborhood. The staff is always friendly and they play great music too! There is usually a line out the door now that they are only letting four people in at a time and due to the fact that their hours are now limited, but I really appreciate the fact that they are adhering to social distancing protocols. I was really looking forward to this as I'd been craving a good Italian sandwich for about two weeks now. I passed by Ottomanelli on a walk this weekend and vowed to have one of their sandwiches to fulfill my craving. (!) WHAT I ORDERED: Italian combo @ $9.95 (!) HOW IT DID: It was enough to split for later but I don't think it'd last that long due to the bread. The sandwich is pretty stacked and I couldn't get my mouth around it. Add the fact that the bread was stale; it became difficult to bite down on it. Like on a sandwich stale scale, with 0 being mad soft and 10 being hard as a rock, this was a 6.5. All in all, the meat and cheese were good and the balsamic vinegar was a nice touch, although it could've held back a bit on that. (!) TIDBITS: Will probably be back again to try the chicken parm people keep talking about but I'll be looking elsewhere for my Italian sub fix. For all you sandwich-ordering points-lovers, sign above the register says there's a $10.00 minimum for card transactions. Shouldn't be a problem to meet that though. Really happy to come across Ottomanelli while on the Yelp search for a good butcher shop. It has been around for many, many decades, and that is an indication of long standing and reliable quality. For a bbq birthday party, we wanted some quality burgers and hot dogs. This is the spot for them. Not too expensive either compared to the grocery brands. This is certainly a better buy compared to what you find at your supermarket. I definitely want to go back but for now, one can bet the hot dogs are a win. While fresh beef patties were an option, we were convinced to purchase the box of 8 or so frozen hamburger patties that comes to $16. Thaw these for half an hour or so, and it is ready to grill. While I liked the burgers, the hot dogs were comparatively better. There was a nice flavor and bite to them. Burgers could use some seasoning, but these would be great if cooked medium rare. We may have overgrilled them, so it lost a bit of juice. Either way, we were very happy with the meats. Guests also agreed everything was great. Grab some potato buns, hot dogs, and burgers from here if you plan for a bbq party. The steaks look great, and I do not have any doubts those are great as well. Disappointed again. I love Ottomanelli and have gotten my turkey from them for 25+ years. However, my Waldy Malouf recipe requires stuffing a cornbread/shallots/thyme mix between the skin & meat, and then air drying in the fridge for 2 days. Instead of a fresh bird they gave me a frozen one last year. Thinking it was a mistake, I was assured it would be "fresh" this year. No, it's rock solid 4 hours after delivery. I can't even open the cavity, much less separate the skin from the meat, so I will have to omit a day of air drying. read more
