They will answer the phone with kindness but once you drop off your car and sign the invoice for the non refundable $100 diagnosis they will change their tone and treat you without a care. I brought my car in to have the driver side window fixed. The diagnosis was that the window motor was not working($100/labor - $105/part) and that the regulator(another $100/labor - $95/part) might not be working. I asked them "why the uncertainty?" The owner said they only checked to see if the motor was working. I asked why they didn't look at the regulator and why would they charge me for another hour of labor for the regulator, when the motor and regulator are attached(separate pieces but still attached). The owner said that the motor and regulator were inside separate inner panels of the door.(not true/they are both inside the same and only inner panel of the door) He also said that each piece has a recommended install time of 1 hour of labor. I asked if the regulator takes less time to install do they pro-rate their labor fees. He said maybe... If both the regulator and motor are attached why would an "honest" auto body shop charge the full amount of labor, if at least half of the labor of removing the outer and inner door panels has already been completed. The owners response was that he doesn't like being second guessed and that if it's so easy why don't I do it myself? The owner had an I don't give a $#it about you attitude. After waiting 4 hours for them to fix my window, I checked other negative yelp reviews and read a lot about how the owner says some pretty nasty things to undermine or insult his paying customers. After not receiving a single phone call regarding the status of my car, I had to call them up and the owner said that his guy was just putting the motor in and would give me an update when it's done. After 90 minutes had passed, without receiving any call, I figured my car would be done so I walked to the shop, considering that they closed at 5pm, I wanted to get their before they closed. I showed up at the auto shop and the mechanic was still working on the window. The girl who answers the phone and works the register with a fake smile, told me that the mechanic had other things to do today and had to start and stop work on my door. My lingering question is how do they determine labor hours if the mechanic doesn't even work on one job at a time? I wouldn't recommend going to this auto shop if you're looking for an honest, genuine experience. It seems like someone comes in with one problem and they recommend additional repairs or are dishonest about what may or may not be fixed. read more

I have been going to Patti's for almost ten years. This is a woman owned and family run shop that is honest, trustworthy and reliable. They have treated me like family and I have used their office as a resource when I have lived in other states to call about what services another mechanic is offering to see if they agree they are necessary. They treat their employees well, are environmentally conscious, and are welcoming to people from all walks of life. I have had them work on two of my vehicles and they have always helped me keep them in great shape. Definately check them out and get an estimate. It may not be the cheapest one in town, but its one you can trust. read more

I can't say enough good things about Patti's. Last week, my beloved little honda civic overheated on me on the side of the 880 in Fremont, pretty far from home. I have AAA and had it towed to the nearest shop. A few hours later they told me my head gasket was blown and it would cost 2,000 to fix. They warned me about driving off the lot but I was determined to have the trusting guys at Patti's look at it and give me a second opinion. After I brought my car in this morning, they ran some diagnostics and said my head gasket was fine. The issue was my radiator cap was not the right size for my radiator so it was messing with the coolant and the pressure inside the radiator. Cost me a whole $84 bucks (which included labor)! Much better than the $2,000 I was quoted for my "blown head gasket". Patti's has always treated me with respect and never has tried to sell me something I don't need. They also put up with all of my questions and seem to enjoy describing the inner workings of my engine to me :) Overall I would recommend this shop to anyone who is looking for a trust worthy, fair, and friendly business. read more

Mr Patti is awesome! My Honda car failed the smog check due to the check light, so I brought it to a auto service to fix it. They say I need to replace the filler pipe and asked me for $520 ($170 for part + $350 for = labor). I suspected the labor fee is a little high, and called Patti's Auto Care for an estimate. He said replacing the filler pipe was quite easy, and it shouldn't cost more than $150 for labor fee. So I brought my car to Patti's Auto Care. After looking at the original filler pipe, he said that it seemed like there was nothing wrong with it and instead fixed the problem by tightening the gas cap. The check light went off!!! And the best part is he charge me NOTHING for doing so. I recommend Mr Patti's service to all of my friends who live nearby Berkeley. read more

But after owning 2 or 3 cars of my own and getting ripped off by one dealer after another, I figured out why they did. They always seem concerned about your welfare and often refuse to take your money if they don't have a good reason for doing so. I was just walking my dog and Mr Patti was smiling at Buddy and being so friendly. I was actually headed to the locksmith around the corner to see if he'd help me fix my keyless remote for my Toyota rav4. Since Mr Patti greeted us so warmly, I decided to see if he may help me with the remote. He fooled around with it for a few minutes while a lady who seemed to work there, too, was petting Buddy and saying how beautiful his coat is. I was so surprised when I got home -- he fixed it! Two nights ago coming home from the Airport I got a flat tire on my Subaru outback. I replaced the tire w/ the temp mini-tire and all was well until the car started knocking and later jolting every second or so on the bridge. I got off the first exit, at which point the the car drove like the transmission was ready to drop at any time. I got a cab home that night. Next day I called Patti's and asked if I could bring it in (they're one of the few shops that's open on Saturday), went to the car, started it, and tried to see if it was drivable or needed to be towed - it drove OK. Stopped by Patti's anyway to leave it for a check. After describing the problem to them, the mechanic told me that on All-wheel drive cars, the tires have to match pretty well (which is why you have to change them in pairs). When I put the small spare tire on, it started causing problems for the AWD system, causing the transmission to slip and slide and knock. He suggested I replace the tire immediately w/o driving it anymore and see if it was OK. I did, it was OK, and I was very happy to get out of the whole thing so cheaply. They were like the Tappit brothers - really awesome. Will definitely take the car there for any repairs. read more
