Love these Guys and their " Old Fashioned INTEGRITY " !!! My Accord Battery is only 14 - 18 months old. However it died unexpectedly @ a ' ' Refueling Stop ' in Berkeley @ the GAS STATION on Shattuck @ Ashby. Luckily they have a Mechanic Shop in there, and the fellow in there obliged me with a " Jump Start ". Mysterious why it had died suddenly then was ' back up ' Performing Beautifully !!!! Despite which I needed a Battery & Alternator Check to Satisfy Myself Fully that All is Well. Called Mr. Hamza @ Yen's Auto to explain the situation. He suggested I bring it in ASAP for a " Charging System Check " - which I did the same day about 4 weeks ago. Him and his Assistant Mr. AFSAND , who I'd dealt with previously , had me pop the hood to connect their Meter Etc giving my Charging System ' A CLEAN BILL Of Health. Had a electrical issues that needed figuring out. Replaced the alternator, replaced the battery and still kept getting a intermittent electrical warning light. Of course the warning light never appeared for the mechanic. Grrrr........ They not only believed me but kept trying to help figure it out. They even brought in a electrician to look it over. Finally we replaced the brand new alternator and that did the trick! I am so happy. They really did their best to help me out. Definitely nice to have them as my new shop. read more

I'd driven up from LA and parked the car and when I went out to get it it was totally dead. I remembered liking an automotive place down on San Pablo so after AAA boosted me, I drove down and they were able to give me a new battery and change the oil in a little more than an hour. I'd like to once again shout out Yen's. I recently had a scary experience in which my brakes failed when I reached the bottom of a steep hill coming home from the High Sierras. It turned out the brake pads had overheated, which had never happened before. After a 45+ minute rest, the brakes seemed to be working again, and I was able to make it home safely. I wanted to be sure there was no impending danger to pedestrians, other drivers, my passengers, and me, so I drove minimally until I was able to take my car to Yen's to check the brake pads. It was late in the afternoon, and I'm sure the service person wanted to finish up and get out of there, but he did not ask me to wait or schedule an appointment or anything like what I have experienced at so many car places. He examined my brake fluid (it was almost full), took a look at each of my tires, and let me know that the brake pads were fine and that two of the rotors were a little worn -- but nothing to be concerned about for now. I tried to give him a couple bucks for his help, and he would not accept. I wish more businesses (especially when it comes to cars) were like Yen's -- what a gem in this day and age. read more

Got an unfortunate nail in my Tesla model 3, and was quoted for $50 repair, which is way better than what the Tesla service wanted to charge ($300). Wow! In a day and age when it seems that overcharging and scams are at an all time high it was so refreshing to go to Yen's Auto and get a free estimate! I moved down to San José, so I'm a lot farther away now, but I'd be willing to make the trip up again to get serviced by them! Great customer service and very responsive. My family has been going here for years, and never had a bad experience. I had my brakes, rotors, and serpentine belt replaced this time. They quoted 3 hours and finished in two. They called me once the repair was complete. It's been two weeks since the repair, and brakes are silent with no shaking. So far so good. Location is on a corner of an intersection. They typically have parking available. I find that they are fair with pricing, and the quality is pretty good. They've been around forever, so that must say something. read more

Hamza was responsive in an email/text blast that YELP! initiated on my behalf! (This tool of Yelp!'s is great to utilize!). Hamza was very transparent and helpful in terms of what my 'Brake' job would cover. He even gave me options: Premium, medium, Or economy ... which breaks down to expensive, middle expensive, or cheaper . Brake replacement was done accordingly ... within a couple hours, same day! They even mentioned that my car was missing a lug nut!!! [Ughhh... not their fault!!! But I did have my tires rotated recently at a reputable tire specialist in San Rafael!!! We have an older Prius that recently died... Yen's recommended a very kind towing person who brought the car to their shop after hours (and they had a dropbox to receive the key). The next day they fixed the problem and were great communicators. When something else came up with the car, even though their usual electrician was on vacation, they called in a colleague that was able to take apart the dashboard, replace an electrical part and now the car is driving great! ***honorable Mom & Pop type of place ** This place is adorbs - I feel like one of those people supporting the community auto shop except... umm... I don't live in this community But anyhoo- my uncle recommended this place and as a woman I felt the need to broadcast this fact so they don't take advantage. Fixed my timing belt for a total cost of $507.59 (Parts :$221.54. /// labor for 3.5 hours $265). Had to make sure they knocked the cost down given I recently installed a new water pump, nor do I need a fan belt . The owner walked me thought the process, pointed out the objects in my car and was honest about what was important and what I didn't need they also knocked off an additional $60 because my Cruze has 1 pulley not 2. I appreciated them letting me know this instead of charging me for something I didn't need. All in all my car was ready the next day by 12pm!!! read more

After my experience today, I'm updating my earlier 4-star rating to a 5-star rating. This shop is honest, responsive and fair in their pricing. I brought my aunt's car to them, because after riding with her I not only heard the car sound bad, but there was a strong gas odor. My aunt's sense of smell has gone, so she never noticed the fumes, but said when she took the car to a place in Antioch (referred by someone at Big O), they quoted her $2,000 to fix her gasket. For that reason she held off on getting it fixed. After being in the car I insisted she let me take it in because the fumes were toxic. She allowed it, called that morning to tell these guys I'd bring it in (they're close to my house and she went to the previous owners). I brought it in at 2:30. By 4:00 they had contacted her to pick the car up for a fix that cost $175! Can you believe that! The other place had out priced my aunt from getting her car fixed, at a cost so astronomical that she had to sit in a car with toxic fumes because they hoped to make a profit on someone who may have just immediately taken them at their word. I am thankful that this place was honest, fair, and expedient about seeing and fixing the problem. Thank you for not gouging my aunt to drive without toxic fumes spilling into her lungs. read more
