The provider took me back for the evaluation, reviewed my X-ray, and told me there was no hope--my tooth couldn't be saved, I had severe gum disease, and my gums needed laser treatment that would take a long time to heal. She was very pushy and rude. It's important to mention I was only referred here for the X-ray, yet she insisted on doing the procedure herself and taking over the work of my referring provider. She also made me feel rushed and showed no compassion or empathy. When I was leaving, I noticed all the lights in the hallway to the exit were off, and there was no one in the lobby where it was dark. I had a terrible experience that night, which caused me anxiety. I ultimately found another provider, a top 100 dentist I trust, who confirmed that I do not have severe gum disease and do not require laser treatment. They successfully completed my implant and I also went through Invisalign, resulting in my teeth being in excellent health and condition. I strongly advise avoiding this place at all costs!

I was looking through my insurance website trying to find another periodontist to get a second opinion and saw ADC listed in Tijuana. Knowing that my insurance company would not have a shady outfit approved on their network, I contacted ADC and made an appointment. I have had fillings and minor dental work done in Mexico over the years, but was nervous about having actual surgery down there. I shouldn't have worried - the facilities at ADC were cleaner and more modern than any dentist in the USA. All the instruments came right out of sterile autoclave packets and the imaging equipment was state of the art. There is a paid parking lot next door. Dr. Ahumada was a joy to work with - very knowledgeable and professional. The surgery sucked, but she made it as comfortable as she could. The receptionist speaks good English. My out of pocket expenses, including a trip to the pharmacy was under $700. ADC saved me $500 and Dr. Ahumada could not be beat. Very highly recommended.

After my dentist retired, we had a little global pandemic, and then things got busy and ... in 2026 I brought them a mouth some California dentists wouldn't touch without hundreds of dollars in X-ray and lab fees up front. Then wouldn't touch. ​ In two days of care, they replaced a complex crown, did four quadrants of deep cleaning, and filled an embarrassing number of cavities. I paid about two and a half Gs for what I was quoted elsewhere for between $6K and $10K. This is dental work under local anesthesia, so some pain from numbing is expected. They have a deal with a chain hotel in easy walking distance that has an included breakfast with soft foods and a UV water dispenser on every floor. From my initial contact on WhatsApp, to their offer to Uber me to the office, to patient intake and detailed assessment including head CTs (!), 3D modeling (!!!), photography of teeth and individual tooth x-rays, and the competence of the clinical team... I don't believe this level of dental care is available in Estados Unidos. If I have a friend who needs dental care, I will cheerfully refer them here. Note: WhatsApp and Uber are essential tools in Tijuana.​

I trusted their professional judgment and agreed to the recommended treatment. During the procedure, the numbing injection was incredibly painful. I've had fillings before, so I knew this didn't feel normal. I remember thinking maybe they just used a different technique, so I trusted the process and didn't question it. Looking back, I wish I had advocated for myself. Ever since that filling was completed, that tooth has been in pain. I lived with that pain for the next 2-3 months, hoping it would eventually go away. Instead, I pushed it to the back of my mind and convinced myself it would get better. When I finally flew back to the D.C. area, I went to the dentist I've trusted for the past 10 years. He took new X-rays of the painful tooth and diagnosed me with pulpitis, an inflammation of the dental pulp. He also showed me that the new filling extended beyond the previous filling. He expressed concern about whether that additional drilling was necessary. He couldn't say for certain that it wasn't, but the look on his face and our conversation were concerning to me. I'm not accusing anyone of wrongdoing. I'm simply sharing the facts. During my comprehensive exam and X-rays at Smiles of Eastlake, there was no indication of inflammation in that tooth. After the filling was done, I developed constant pain in that same tooth and was later diagnosed with pulpitis by another dentist. My biggest issue with Smiles of Eastlake was that the office felt rushed and impersonal. It felt more like a high-volume practice than one focused on individualized patient care. Once my trust was broken, I wasn't comfortable returning. This review is really about two things. First, if you choose Smiles of Eastlake, proceed with caution. Ask questions, advocate for yourself, and don't be afraid to get a second opinion if something doesn't feel right. Second, listen to your body. I ignored persistent pain for 2-3 months because I assumed it would get better. It didn't. Whether this outcome could have been prevented, I don't know, but I do know that ignoring my symptoms wasn't the right decision. I have two dentists/oral surgeons in my family; My uncle and my cousin up in Los Angeles, therefore I am accustomed to the best in oral care. Of course when family was working my teeth, they took take EXTRA CARE of me because I was the baby of the family. So my expectations are higher than most, sometimes unreasonably higher, but I have the experience to know what a patient should expect. I know what injections should feel like, I know what kind of bedside manner a dentist should have, and I settle for nothing but the best in the overall experience. So please read on... Dr. Wong has an incredibly thoughtful best side manner, she made me feel at ease right away. Although I was sedated, I remember her whispering to me in a soft, angelic voice "you're doing so well" "just a little more" and repeating how well I'm doing. After the surgery she spoke to my husband and I about aftercare, still in her natural soft, ethereal voice. I was in absolutely no pain when I awoke, and I am still in no pain 24 hours later. I haven't had to take any pain meds today, I simply don't even feel as though I had oral surgery except for the proof: sutures! I took two pain medications last night, the evening of my surgery, in the event some pain would have crept up on me and I couldn't sleep. I didn't want to take a chance that I would suddenly be in pain, and awoken in the middle of the night, so for precautionary measures I took them. As she described to me, I have some minor swelling, but it's minimal and expected. I had (according to the Doc) a lot of gum tissue removed from both sides of the roof of my mouth, then grafted to three teeth. Did I mention how gentle she is and that I have no pain? Yaay me! Of course dental block injections pinch a little, as they all do, but very minimal. Yet because of her gentle nature, it didn't bother me. I was numb in no time. I was highly nervous and anxious, she recognized that immediately, and sedated me appropriately (I had someone to drive me) staying by my side every moment, talking to me until my anxiety subsided. Dr. Wong is sweet, intuitive, delightful, caring, thoughtful and charming. You don't learn these things in dental school, you are either a natural or not. The Doc is a natural. I would highly recommend Dr. Wong at SoCal Perio. Oral surgery, gum grafting etc. can be all very scary, it's dreaded, and the day we have to go in most of us are EXTREMELY anxious, and honestly don't want to go. If you need the work done, trust this doctor, please do yourself a favor, do your mouth a favor and seek out the best in the field; Dr. Wong. She has a superb educational background, gentle skilled hands, and a natural care for her patients.
