Personally, the most important thing when working with a real estate agent is TRUST. My fiancé and I were looking for our first home. Neither of us had a clue on what to look for in a house. It was clear from the very beginning that Paul had our best interest in mind as he was very thorough with each house we viewed. Paul told me several times during my house search, "If I wanted to sell you a house, you would have bought a house". What he meant was that he was there to ensure we found a house that worked for our family, and was in it for the long haul. He knew the neighborhoods, he pointed out the flaws, he researched (which may have included hanging out in a driveway on a rainy night in order to get the scoop on a recent flip from a neighbor that was taking out his trash). Our path to purchase was not easy - from a difficult (er, crazy) selling agent to a disaster of an inspection, we had a lot of challenges. Paul is an honest, no BS type of Realtor. He understands how a house is put together and can point out the potential problem areas that can result from things like lack of maintenance. He is always on top of what is going on in the market, and great to chat with about strategies like how to pay down a mortgage faster than the conventional 30 year time period to save money. He is a very knowledgeable guy and much better than some of the tour guide real estate agents out there who can't do much more than point out a pretty kitchen and bathroom.
