I had a huge leak in my house that hit all three levels and they came out to do the mitigation and did such a great job with the water extraction and drying my home. Poor communication, multiple last minute cancellations, showing up w no notice, lack of supervisor oversight/management, poor workmanship - using lesser grade paint than approved by insurance company - while indicating they only purchased it for touch ups, unable to match quarter round to floor after multiple attempts, etc. significant delay in getting water mitigation equipment installed. had to escalate concerns to insurance company for help more than once. not great experience while dealing with a water leak/repair. read more

Have not heard from Paul Davis after coming to my home 2 weeks ago. We had a water problem and need to know their cost.

On December 26, 2023 there was a leak in our wall, causing water to flow from the top floor to the basement. We experienced one delay after another, one excuse after another. When it was all done (or so we thought), we had to have them come back no less than 10x to repair their repairs. This is my dining room floor (pictures). They said it would take 2 weeks to get more tile to repair it! It's been 2 more months! Then this man just showed up at my house, 3 1/2 hours late, with a woman and 2 kids in tow thinking he's gonna do anything at my house! Again, the leak occurred in December. September is 6 days away and they still have not completed our repairs. My mortgage company sent a final check for $2100. They have called about that several times! The work and workers are incompetent. I have never dealt with such a mess as this. If anyone reading this know of a competent attorney, please contact me through email blindsey77@gmail.com. BUT PLEASE if your insurance company uses Paul Davis for restoration, I urge you to find your own restoration company or at least allow them to do the initial restoration but definitely get someone else to repair and restore your home. My insurance company USAA sent Paul Davis who responded in reference to a bad water leak in my upstairs bathroom that spread water all the way through my kitchen and down into the basement. The technician Raul Lou and his assistant came on the scene and explain everything and went to work. The dry out process was completed on time like Raul Lou stated and now I'm ready for the next step in the restoration of my home by the project manager. Kudos to Raul Lou and His company Paul Davis they are both local and trustworthy, dependable and professional and all billing handle between them and my insurance company! We're almost 1.75 years past the original damage date, and the work is still not complete. The subcontractors have extremely poor quality control. I think they've had to correct as much of their own work in the rebuild than the original work scope itself. And that's mostly because we inspect the house every other day and identify all the problems ourselves. The project manager seems overtasked, meaning he cannot provide proper oversight. The estimation process was rife with errors and caused extensive (months!) delays. Things that should have been charged to insurance were billed to us instead. Non-salvageable contents were not well documented, forcing us to re-inventory it ourselves for full reimbursement from insurance. A tree crashed into our house. We were recommended this company from a roofer who was a friend of friend. We were told they would help fight the insurance company, which they didn't do. We had to fight the insurance company. We should have googled vs. going off a recommendation we thought was solid. The only positive thing I can say about this company was that they were very quick to come out on the day of our water damage. They did a partial demolition and then we've never seen them again. The one time I saw them was for us to sign over a 30,000$ check from our insurance company and fraudulently told the insurance that the job was 50% complete. The demolition was not even finished. We've been stuck with open ceilings, open walls, walking on paper throughout the house. And have had to use a laundromat for now 3 months. Both Lowes and Empire today have given us quotes and can have it complete within a week. How is that Paul Davis can't do this? It's completely unacceptable business practices. read more

We called to get an estimate on repairing a garage ceiling that had to be partially removed due to a pipe leak. They said it would be $250 just to come out and take a look. They were the third company we called. The other two came out and gave free estimates in the range of around $2100. So, for these guys to just look at it would actually cost around 12% of the total repair bill from the other two companies, both of whom come highly recommended from Yelp, Angi, etc... Seriously? We had such a positive experience with Paul Davis. We had a flood in our basement au pair suite on a Friday night of a long weekend. They sent a team to get started on mitigation work that very night and saw the mitigation and restoration work through to the very last detail. We even had a little snafu with baseboard painted the wrong shade of white, and they had a team back here to fix it the next day. I couldn't believe it and was so grateful. The communication was great, they worked to get our project done on a short timeline (so our new au pair wouldn't move into a construction project!), and every single person I dealt with was kind, friendly, and helpful. If I could leave zero stars I would. Where do I begin? We had a house fire in December 2017 and unfortunately this company was recommended to us. We are still dealing with the consequences of their incomplete work. There is no accountability and their GM Brock Merwin, has proved that he does not care about their lack of customer service and irresponsibility of their project manager. I could provide a long list of the items that were incomplete or just not done. It took many emails and complaints to get anything fixed, and most of what was promised was not done. They also did not communicate anything to us unless we reached out first. They blew our project off initially. While we thought they were supposed to be working on our house, they were in fact doing NOTHING. The received no communication or witnessed no work from May-Sept 2018 because their designer quit and no one was being held accountable. Our home was supposed to be complete 10/31. They continued to drag their feet and show how irresponsible they are. They even forgot to put in hose bibs (which is mandatory to pass inspection) and somehow their inspector missed it? My husband caught it. When they went to install them they destroyed landscaping, ripped out a bush and left it in the middle of the yard. When we told them about it, they said they would remove it and never did. We had to remove it ourselves. Who does that kind of shoddy work? We had to decide to fix the remaining items they left undone because it was so labor intensive to get them to do what they were contracted to do. What an awful company. Would not recommend to anyone, especially if you are going through a trauma such as a house fire. read more

Edit: I am giving them another star because during demolition phase, my bathtub got chipped by accident, they did finally send people out and fixed the chips and repainted the tub. It now looks fantastic. Original: If you had asked me to review them 6 years ago when I used them for water remediation after ice damping through the roof, my review would have been 5 stars all the way. They were prompt, efficient, and followed up. My recent experience with them is worse than terrible. So both times together, get them 2 stars. My insurance company contracted them after I filed a loss claim. They were prompt on the initial loss mitigation call, came out the next day for the demo work. That is the end of the pro. The con Dec 20th - demolition: was told demo would take about 3 hours - actual demo took about 10. one personnel told me horror story after horror story about the mold they found, and that how it should be treated immediately. I asked for them to deal with it since they offer mold remediation services. Never did hear a thing back about that. Even after 1 call to the supervisor whom is in charge of my case, 2 calls to their office, 1 call to my insurance adjuster and 1 in person convo with the person who came to collect dehumidifiers. Dec 23rd - someone was due to collect the dehumidifiers, never showed up, no call, nothing. Called the office 2 times, my insurance adjuster 1 time and supervisor that was on vacation for the holidays to come get the equipments. Someone finally came to remove the enormous machines on December 30th. Jan 9th - got a call about setting up a time to remediate the "crazy" mold issue I have. Only 20 days after the initial demolition to expose the said crazy mold. Thanks but no thanks - it's already been properly treated, and reconstructed phase is almost over as well. A couple items were damaged during demolition phase that were not supposed to be as well. Chips on the bathtub and nicks on unaffected walls. They are supposed to be a full service loss mitigation & restoration company - I would have loved to have one company to deal with the whole thing. But the lack of customer service and followup, leaves me never want to deal with them again. read more

I appreciated from the start, they put on shoe covers when they entered the home out of courtesy. Wow Paul Davis responded to my need for total drywall repair in a utility closet which included walls and ceiling damage from water in the condo above me. Unfortunately, the service from this Paul Davis Restoration does not live up to any reasonable standard. Slow to respond, slow to work and slow to move any process along. After my water-heater burst it took Paul Davis over a month to replace the flooring and floor-boards. A job that took a total of three days work time. They constantly provided mis-information, for instance guaranteeing the painters would be there on Tuesday when they in fact showed up Friday. Honestly, I wouldn't use these guys again if I would be forced to do it myself otherwise. It is hard to convey the annoyance and stress this company has caused me. read more

PDR uncovered black mastik (asbestos) while pulling up the water-damaged vinyl flooring in our basement. They then turned on high powered drying fans and left them on for several days, presumably blowing asbestos fibers everywhere. PDR staff came back to recover the fans, let us know that their asbestos mitigation contractor would get in touch with us to undergo asbestos removal, and then we never heard from them again. We called PDR multiple times and even reached out directly to their asbestos mitigation company after nagging them for the name. We did speak with several individuals at PDR and their asbestos mitigation contractor who all gave us the "okay let me check and get back to you soon" routine. We ultimately had to hire our own asbestos mitigation company to take care of things. My guess is that PDR knew that they messed up big time and wanted out. We have a 3-year-old at home and they are lucky we haven't sued. read more

Bottom line up front (BLUF): this company does not communicate within itself very well or at all and has no concept of following up on customers resulting in excessive wait times and in our case, the job never even starting! Please read on for all the details: I see this business did well for other people but I dealt with this company's inaction and customer "no service" for the last two days! I recently had a roof leak turn up due to all the recent rain. This company was referred by my insurance company so we made arrangements for them to place a tarp and begin the drying out process. After they heard the situation, they said they would check availability of a technician to come out and call back in 10 min. Guess what... no call. It was pretty late in the evening by that point so we let the buckets do their work overnight and decided to re address in the morning. The next AM, we called again at about 9 am. They apologized for not calling back and said they would be out for sure would have it tarped off that same day. They said to please just let them assign a technician and they would call back. The hours rolled by and at 3 pm I finally had to cave in and call. The man expressed that he was very sorry and this was highly unusual and we would get a call. Well the call did come, but....same story about a call back and a technician was just wrapping up and would be right over. Fast forward 4 hours and we were done. Went to a friends house and 'lo about 8 pm, a guy calls us and says he's at our house and where we're we? We explained the whole situation that had transpired over the past day and a half expressing that at this point we had no desire for him to climb up on our roof in the pitch black and attempt to find and tarp a leak by flashlight!! He said he didn't get the order for our job until an hour before (mind you we were waiting since 9 am) and said an operations manager would contact us to straighten it all out in the morning. You know how this story ends! It is 5:45 pm the next day and no call. As said before, the root cause of this company's problems is no feedback to the customer and no followup. First impressions are everything and this one is busted. read more

Don't trust this company. Dishonest, rude, sub-standard work. They will never meet deadlines and then blame the homeowner or anyone else. They never have any construction documents and use incompetent sub-contractors. To add insult to injury, they will then try to charge exorbitant additional fees for things when the homeowner never signed any change orders approving any of the extra charges. If that isn't enough, they will walk away from the job and then try to blame the homeowner and sue if you hold back money or refuse to pay for work they didn't do, products they didn't supply or the additional fees you never approved. They will hire unscrupulous lawyers who will manage to take a case before the court without you present and get a judgement against you to steal all of the money out of your bank accounts. And, don't trust them with your property either. Your stuff gets lost, broken or left uncleaned in storage for months. Make sure you get a complete written list of your property and then get it back asap and store it yourself. DON'T GET BURNED BY THESE GUYS!!!! This company preys on vulnerable people in shock after horrible losses of fire and water damage. Take my word for it, if you were unlucky enough to have been a victim of a fire (or any other form of damage), you certainly don't need this headache and heartache on top of it. The worst! PaulDavis arrived at the house to detect main source of a water leak. Master bedroom shower/toilet, kitchen pantry show signs of water damage. Walkway to living room, living room next to windows and down stairs basement have bubbling on ceiling where water is sipping through. My wife had walked them throught the home where they conducted their inspection. After their inspection was complete they had stated to my wife that two leaks where found in relation to the master bedroom however no signs of water was found. My wife had explained to the PaulDavis inspector,we had stopped using the shower and toilet for over two months prior to the inspection. Inspector stated to my wife was that it made sense why water was not detected. Inspector had questioned my wife if we had any roofing done. Her response was many of our neighbors have had theirs roofs done recently, however not sure as to when this home had a roofing job since it's not our home. Inspector had stated that roof could be a possibility relating to water leak. PAULDAVIS workers had returned and cut a hole in the pantry ceiling underneath master bedroom shower, demolished the upstair master restroom shower and floor tile and climbed on the roof and removed roof shingles. Once workers had completed their job, they had stated to my wife to let the fans/humidifiers run for three days for restroom to dry and a plumber should be contacting us within three days time. If we did not get a call then we are to contact plumber overselves after the third day. My wife had asked what problems were found and they had responded that they were only here to demolish the restroom and have it ready for plumber for him to do his job.Three to Five days after I had called PAULDAVIS more than once and had spoken to their front desk receptionist and had asked the following: When is the Plumber going to stop by? Her response was PAULDAVIS does not do any plumbing you would have to contact your insurance company. Is someone going to stop by to pick up ladder that was left behind to climb the roof along with equipment? Her response: we were not tracking of a ladder being left behind, I will have it picked up along with scheduling someone to pick up the rest of the equipment (3 pieces of equipment humidifiers/fans). Was there any leaks found on roof or damage since they had climbed and wife saw roofing tile tossed down to the ground? Her response: I am not aware of that, I will find out and get back to you with an answer. Continued to call regarding status found on roof and my calls were not answered. PAULDAVIS workers stopped by on a Saturday Morning to pick up humidifiers/fans. I had expressed my concerns regarding water leak and if they could let me know what leaks were found. They used a small hand held machine to run along the edges of the floor and walls of master restroom and stated that everything seemed to be dry and ready for plumber to conduct the rest of the job. I then stated that the first time that PAULDAVIS had arrived to conduct an inspection of home prior to demolition of restroom no water was detected and wife had explained that it was because restroom had not been in use for over two months (inspector had agreed to it being a reasonable possibility). Also stating that PAULDAVIS did not do any plumbing they only prepare the job for plumber. PaulDavis is a company I will certainly not recommend to anyone. They lack communication with client and each other. I am very dissappointed in the way the handled your home and very upset they have not done anything to finish the job. We have been living without a master restroom for weeks now and it is very fustrasting for the entire family. Since my initial post I have been contacted by Paul Davis to resolve these issues. I feel confident at this time that all issues will be taken care of. More to come..... I would absolutely never recommend Paul Davis Restorations. I used them after my house was condemned because of tree damage after a severe thunderstorm. Paul Davis employees lost/stole some of our belongings when they were packing them up for storage. Also, Paul Davis never paid the plumber that they subcontracted so I had to (or else have a lien placed on my house). My phone calls to Paul Davis were not returned regarding this. When I mentioned the missing items once we unpacked, I was told to request another claim from my insurance co. (another 750.00 deductible for me). Ridiculous! read more

PD was contracted by our insurance carrier to handle water damage and foundation repair (necessitated by our having to get to a section of pipe under the foundation.)The work was excellent, working with the men on site was easy, I had no problems with communications between supervisors and on site workers and if there was a question regarding anything what was uncertain stopped until we were all on the same page, the men were respectful and professional in every respect, and they were flexible about when and what was done, making is incredibly easy for us. I had the most pleasant business experience with the Paul Davis Company who was both extremely professional and knowledgeable while also being very courteous, supportive and educational in explaining the process from start to finish. In addition, the work was performed and executed so professionally and smoothly with absolutely no effect on the home so after the work there was no way to tell that a window had just been replaced appearing as though it was the original construction. So the superlative care that was taken was truly the best workmanship I had ever seen in a company. Very frustrating experience: My insurance recommended that I use Paul Davis for a bathroom ceiling water damage removal and mitigation.The representative looked at the damage on 9/29. The repair was scheduled for 10/3. Nobody showed up. I called this representative and the mitigation specialist each 3+ times over the course of the next few weeks. Nobody returned the calls. After getting in touch with someone else in a different department, the repair was eventually rescheduled for 10/12, at 11am. The workers showed up at 1:30. After they finished taking out the damaged ceiling and left, I noticed that a vent - located directly above the ceiling, had been cut through entirely. I find it very difficult to believe that the Paul Davis worker would not notice cutting through a vent. Now I will start the process over of trying to reach someone at Paul Davis. I will report back to let you know if and when they will repair or replace the vent. read more

We lost our house in a fire. Paul Davis has the first representative on scene. We had no idea what a restoration company was, what they did or how they worked. A year afterwards though we are back in our home ( our rebuilt/restored) home! I can't even put in to words how much we appreciate and LOVE the team at PDR in Gaithersburg. We met so many people, so many kind people. Each had a role in our disaster/rebuild and each had a specific impact on our lives. First there was Candace and John, you guys were the ones who saw the tears, saved and restored so many of our belongings and got our emergency items finished and delivered lickity Split. John stopped our insurance guy from throwing many items in the garbage and had his crew sift through extremely fine rubble to find a ring that was a family heirloom. We found it! Candace stopped by several times just for moral support and some very reassuring and kind words that meant the world to our family. Then there was Brian, who was a little hard to get to understand, but he was sweet and patient with me, even when I was grumpy and got in his face. Carlos and Ramon, the guys I probably saw the most because they were there in the restoring, rebuilding and directing traffic. Sometimes it took IONS to get stuff done, sometimes it went faster than expected. Mostly the stops were due to permitting! When dealing with restoration companies, you have to remember, these are people doing a job that will get you back to your normal style and comfort of living. There is also Annie, she is the cutest and sweetest of them all. A tenderhearted decorator, designer/ content helper-outer. She helped us understand how to pick our house items, like lamps and door knobs and fans and flooring. I could just squeeze them all.... over and over again. I would recommend them to anyone. My DC rowhouse was built in 1890, which I purchased in 1997. In 2003 my home was severely damaged by a rainstorm that came through. My insurance company recommended Paul Davis Restoration as they specialized in Historic homes. I was living "Out of State" at the time, so did not have personal "hands-on". Bobby Burch was the estimator on the job, and the home was repaired beautifully. In 2007, when I finally returned to live in my home, I found that the tenants had basically destroyed my kitchen and appliances, so that all had to be upgraded. Paul Davis had 3 contracts with me to upgrade my house to make it what it is today. Everyone Ohhs & Ahhs. They upgraded the kitchen, took a 3rd upstairs bedroom divided it into 2, made 1 half into an office, and the other half into a bathroom and walk-in closet. They also upgraded the original upstairs bathroom. These 3 contracts took over 2 years to complete, As they had to be phased in. I was so happy & pleased with their expert workmanship that I had them turn my basement into a rental apartment. Again, I am thrilled. The main people on the job were Bobby Burch, estimator, Bob Matney, job "foreman" - other foremen were also involved over the years. The Main Man on the job was the Master Carpenter - Eddie Lewis. He took my ideas, and made them into a reality. He also has suggestions of his own which I incorporated. I now live in a beautiful Victorian home with all the mod-cons, and yet it still looks authentic. Eddie was helped by others over the years. When the basement was constructed into an apartment, Eddie was aided by Larry Falcone, who also did a lot of brickwork for me. Paul Davis Restoration was suggested by our insurance company and we could not have been more impressed. They replaced our roof, repaired structural damage requiring a structural engineer (which they handled), removed and replaced the ceilings in our living room, dining room, entrance foyer and kitchen. They painted everything and I was totally shocked at how clean they maintained the work area even with debris falling from the ripped out ceiling. They completely covered our hard wood floors to prevent any damage to them. The project specialist, Joe Rand, and the project manager, Bob Matney, were so caring and detail oriented that we wondered if they planned on moving in with us!! This company is terrible. The quality of work is poor. They were responsble for restoring my hardwood floor, tile work, and toilet reinstall. They did not meet their deadline. I had to call several times to get anyone to call me back. Also, I had to call constantly because something would not work right. The toilet leaked, the tile was not caulked correctly, and the hardwood floor buckled. Do not work with this company. They will give you gray hair and waste your time. read more

A plumber for my next door neighbor snaked into my condo and broke through the P-trap under my kitchen sink spilling waste water into my kitchen. Of course I was not home at the time. The cleanup I did could not remove the stench which had permeated the floor. I knew the plumber would not do the right thing so I got 3 estimates. Two were for several thousand dollars. PDR said wait and see. If the stink persists have it tested. So right away I liked them. Charlie Speaks was a truly nice guy in a business that I assume is not filled with honorable men. I waited, then I had the testing done by a third party. I hired PDR to do just what the testing company recommended. They were efficient and did a nice job. One laborer was less than perfect the first time, but the onsite supervisor, Felipe Rodriguez made it right. On time. On budget. I can't speak for others, but I had a good experience. I do not hesitate to criticize lousy work; but I try to acknowledge companies that seem honest and do what they say they will do for the price they quoted. Were ok (not great) when there was a lot of money involved (new roof); were then very responsive; took forever to complete the job with lots of excuses though once they got the insurance check. However, not good in communicating afterwards or standing behind their work. Granted, my area (Fredericksburg, VA), recently had a wind storm that although winds were high, should not have removed shingles from a brand new roof Paul Davis put on less than 2 years ago; had 3 of the shingles blow off. Fought for a week and a half just to get a return call back to see if out of courtesy / goodwill if Paul Davis would stand behind their work and come out and replace the 3 shingles; or maybe that there is some type of warranty for a "new" roof that should withstand 40 mph winds we had. Had to call them 3 times before they got tired of me. Finally, I get a phone call back Sarah telling me we don't have the time to help you; nothing we can do. And, Duke Bradie after being super responsive to my emails when I was looking to replace the roof, blew off all my emails post windstorm. My advice, do your research, ask questions, get in writing what's covered by any warranties, and "invest" in a good company who will not only do you right until they get your thousands for replacing your roof, but will admit within reason to faulty workmanship and standby their work afterwards. read more
