I had my long head bicep tendon reattached by Dr. Simic. I found the office to be professional and responsive. While Dr. Simic does not have a jokey and bubbly personality, he is an excellent surgeon. I was distressed before my surgery. I had read some reviews that were less than favorable. But all of them were criticizing, his bedside manner, or his staff... At the end of the day, I care nothing about that. I care that he's a qualified and talented surgeon. Which he is. I would much rather have someone with the experience, skills, and know how, then someone who is friendly and cracks jokes. You are in good hands with this doctor. read more

Dr. Paul Simic is the worst doctor I've ever seen in my life. He was absolutely rude, and spent around 30 seconds in the room assessing me. Didn't answer any of my questions about my issue. Sent me for an MRI which took over a month to get an appointment. When I showed up he booked the wrong procedure for me, and they told me I had to reschedule. I refused and demanded the do the MRI. With my follow up appointment Dr. Simic spend another 30 seconds with me and never answered one question or concern I had. He just sent me to physical therapy. On my final follow up appointment he never even showed up and had his PA look at me instead. He is lazy and arrogant. Shame on him! read more

I was referred to Dr. Simic after an unfortunate incident in which I injured my elbow. His office staff told me he only handles anything "above the waist" so elbows, shoulders and I imagine wrists. I was able to get an appointment right away and did not wait long in the waiting room or in the exam room. He was efficient and thorough and I felt confident in his expertise and that he would provide me with the right care for my injury. Office staff were kind and capable. X-rays are done onsite and reviewed immediately. I'm still doing physical therapy. I appreciate the follow up visits to ensure my recovery is on the right track. Additionally, the offices are modern and clean with plenty of onsite parking. read more

The worst experience of my life! Dr. Simic is arrogant and does not care about his patient. I had surgery and they did a block so I was wide awake. He did carpal tunnel surgery on me which we did not discuss. I was going in for a broken wrist and needed a plate. He could have spoke to me as I was awake but did not, instead when surgery was over as he was walking away he said see you in 2 weeks. No call from the doctor or nurse or surgery center. Absolutely no follow up care. Ended up he screwed I ended up in the emergency room and I needed a second surgery. Dr. Simic once again did surgery and I was in a lot of pain his advise he could send me to a Dr for pain management. It's been a year still can't feel my fingers. My advise run don't walk. read more

By all accounts Dr. Simic is a good doctor, however, I would strongly recommend seeking alternative care. After an initial treatment that did not work, I have been unable to reach his office staff to schedule a follow-up. On April 10, 2019 Paul Simic, M.D. performed surgery on my left thumb to alleviate the pain and discomfort caused by osteoarthritis. I made an appointment in early June 2019 to see Dr. Simic because, two months post surgery, my hand was still painful and swollen. After he examined my hand Dr. Simic told me that the swelling was normal and that I needed to begin physical therapy. By June 8, the pain had become so intense that I went to an emergency room. The examining physician said I had a bacterial infection of the skin, gave me a prescription for Keflex, took a culture and told me that if I was not better in two or three days I should go to an emergency room. On June 12, my hand was still swollen and painful. I was hospitalized so antibiotics could be administered intravenously. I was told to see a hand surgeon without delay. Less than a week later I was examined by a hand surgeon and an infectious disease specialist. Several days after the examination I was back in an operating room. The surgeon told me that I had a considerable amount of fluid which he drained, an infection and osteomyelitis. Had Dr. Simic consulted with an infectious disease physician and/or taken a culture I would not have needed a second surgery and the extensive rehabilitation that followed. Within four days of my last visit with Dr. Simic five physicians diagnosed an infection in my hand. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Paul Simic since 2013 and have always felt that the quality of care he has provided was excellent. I see him at the Van Nuys branch of the Southern California Orthopedic Institute. The office staff there have never been anything other than polite and helpful. Came in for a evaluation and the office made me wait for 2 1/2 hours then had the audacity to tell me next time don't bring my kids. Horrible front desk, called a meeting right in the middle of the day and had no one to be found in the whole office. Would never recommend this place to any. Dr. Simic is a good guy, very efficient, and a very knowledgeable elbow specialist, who quickly diagnosed my wife's tennis elbow, fitted her with a brace and sent us on our merry way. Thing is, it worked! Wifey is slowly getting better; he warned it might be several months, but at least there's no surgery or other complexities involved. Staff was nice. I saw Dr. Simic the end of October 2019. He diagnosed my fractured elbow. I only saw Dr. Simic that one time and was seen at all subsequent visits by his physician's assistant, Alex Kaye. Even after my fracture was supposedly healed, I still suffered from swelling and pain for months to follow. I was told I reinsured it with something I did (untrue since I was completely babying my elbow due to pain). He then said I might have tennis elbow. I finally became suspicious when he said he will keep seeing me until all the symptoms were gone yet nothing new was ever done. I went to my primary doctor who noticed the swelling oh my elbow. She asked if an MRI had ever been done. When I said no, she was incredulous! She told me to never go back to SCOI and referred me to another orthopedist. I have since seen the new orthopedist and have had an MRI. Turns out I have a torn tendon caused by my initial fracture. I was due to have surgery April 22 but it is now on hold due to the coronavirus. Had I had an MRI at SCOI at the onset. I would have had surgery sooner and not still be in a great deal of pain in my elbow and pocketbook! read more

VERY disappointed and frustrated with Dr. Simic and his team. His surgery scheduler, Iyvette, keeps canceling and rescheduling my appointments. I literally cried on the phone several times before she scheduled my surgery... And now for my post-op appointment, she keeps canceling my appointment again and again saying Dr. Simic is in surgery and can't see me!! I wouldn't recommend this office to anyone. Dr. Simic and his entire staff are amazing! Our son, who has autism, broke his arm and wrist last week. We have been very fortunate that our son has never been involved in any kind of accident or broken any bones previously and actually has never had anything more serious than a cold or mild field flu. He is very afraid of needles and was very concerned about the IV. From the moment we arrived, the doctors and nurses could not have been kinder or more patient. They were so incredibly gentle and reassuring. They explained everything that they were going to do in a manner that our son could understand and put him completely at ease. They didn't talk 'down' to him, which unfortunately often happens. They just took their time and made sure he was comfortable, confident and fully prepared. The surgery went beautifully, and so far, he is experienced very little post-op pain. Just 48 hours after the surgery, when asking him about his pain level, he responded it was 1/2. I asked him if that meant a "5" because we had been asking about his pain on a scale of 1 to 10, and he said "No, my pain is half of 1, which is really almost no pain at all." Dr. Simic operated on our other son's hand (it was the 3rd time he had broken the same hand in the bone in his thumb had gone from vertical to horizontal) about 10 years ago. That surgery went very well, and he's had really no trouble with it. That son is now an emergency room nurse, and so he uses his hands a lot, so if the surgery had been anything but top-notch, he certainly would be experiencing difficulty in performing his job. I knew Dr. Simic and his associates were competent and affable. After seeing the way that they interacted with our son last week, I now know that they are extraordinarily kind, caring, and wonderful people. If I could give him 10 stars I would. read more

I came to Dr. Simic with a four year old scaphoid non union. In the four years since my injury I had seen a handful of hand surgeons and Dr. Simic is by far the most competent and professional. His credentials are quite impressive, boasting the likes of Cornell and Stanford Universities, including a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Though the waiting room time could be lengthy, this paid off as my time with him never felt rushed. He was calm, patient, and very clear in answering my questions and addressing my concerns. Dr. Simic was able to preform a scaphoid fixation of my wrist which did not leave permanent hardware in my body. This option was never mentioned with the 4+ previous hand surgeons I had seen about the injury. I am confident that Dr. Simic is on the cutting edge medical technology. He gave me my right hand back and for that I am utmost grateful. I would definitely recommend him to my family and friends. read more

Dr. Simic himself is great. He has a tendency to be super fast so you have to speak up to get him to listen but he is a great surgeon. He repaired my broken finger. But trying to get his office to do anything is a nightmare. I injured my finger at work so I have to get approval from doctor Simic and workers comp to get therapy and he is really slow at approving sometimes I have to call multiple time to get it through. And I don't know if this is Dr. Simic's people or the fault of the institute's appointment people but every time I have scheduled and appointment it has either been moved or cancelled and sometimes the don't let me know. Last time it happened I went in for an appointment and they said I wasn't in the books but the accommodated me anyway. So just be prepared for fitting your schedule to theirs. read more

I've been to different Orthopedic Surgeons in both Oregon, California, and Utah. He seemed the less concerned about my condition than any other doctor I've ever seen, of any specialty. He talked over me, interrupted me, and rushed me through the appointment. I felt as if he were basically kicking me out of his office at the end without my being ready to leave. He gave me a generic sheet of physical therapists names and rheumatologist's names, and told me that I needed to make the necessary arrangements myself. Before I moved to CA my Orthopedic Doctor walked me to his scheduler and stood by me until his scheduler made all the necessary appointments for a rheumatologist, physical therapist, and made an appointment for blood work, on my behalf. I had no such hospitality with Dr. Simic's office. He also performed less tests than I've had in the past from other Orhopedic doctors. read more

Unprofessional and unreasonable to not give give patients an accurate time for their appointments. I visited Dr. Simic in his Simi Valley office for tendonitis in my wrists. He was nice and straightforward. His frontline staff and billing, however, are lame and negligent. The front desk lady made it very clear she'd rather be anywhere else than sitting there helping the patients by her demeanor and rudeness. The billing - now this you have to watch out for. I visited the doc back in March and at the time, they said I had to pre-pay $165 until my insurance got sorted out. I completely forgot about everything and never got any kind of statement from his office whatsoever. It's only now that I have to do my taxes/FlexPay that I followed up with them - and they just informed me I overpaid and have a refund coming to me! I got this info after questioning the lady on the phone for 15 minutes - she didn't volunteer this info until I practically interrogated her. Had I never called them, I would've never realized I overpaid and likely would've never gotten my refund! Dr. Simi needs to train his staff better. read more

I visited dr Simic in his Simi Valley office for carpal tunnel. He performed the surgery on my wrist. I was scheduled to have a shoulder surgery within the next couple of weeks at the Van nuys location and that's where the problems started. First and foremost, the staff was completely unprofessional. They said they were going to call me a couple days before the surgery to tell me the time. I waited for the call, and nothing. Eventually I gave his office a call & was rudely informed that my patient part was not able to be done in payments. They were unwilling to work with me. The office supervisor said she spoke to the doctor and unfortunately he needed his whole part of surgery in order to conduct with the surgery. By that time it was already 4 in the afternoon. His office should have informed me weeks prior of the payment plan. And to top it off , they didn't even have my time schedule yet so late in the day(a day before the surgery). I have been to plenty of doctor offices and by far the staff at the van nuys is the worse. Doctor's main priority shouldn't be the payment, it should always be focused on the patient & their needs. I felt neglected & frustrated so I canceled my surgery. I'd advise to visit a different doctor who actually cares about his patients & not the van nuys institution would are poorly trained. read more
