I went in to get a balayage and I know it's a teaching school so they are learning but no one was doing the teaching. The "teacher" was too busy flirting with a student rather than helping the student doing my hair. Since I got there the "teacher" was already rushing the the students to hurry up with me. So the students were being rushed as they are in the process of learning and how can they even learn in that type of environment? I also want to point out that the teacher wanted to do a test strip and she knew i was doing a balayage and she did a very thick "test strip" in the back of my head almost touching my roots, i often put my hair in a bun or ponytail and the huge test strip that the teacher did in the back is very noticeably wrong and doesnt blend in with the rest of my hair. The students have potential but they need the right teacher and the one they got (Jacqueline) AIN'T IT!! With a BETTER teacher that's actually willing to TEACH they can learn a lot more instead of being rushed and not being taught. As a client I didn't appreciate that the "teacher" kept coming over and telling the students to hurry up especially in front of me (the client) I would have appreciated for her to let the students take the right amount of time on my hair instead of just rushing them the entire time I was there. I overheard the teacher after my hair was done saying that "you can tell when someone just doesn't have what it takes" and I wanna say that I agree 100% and SHE is the problem she doesn't have what it takes to be a "teacher". It was completely inappropriate and very unprofessional of her to rush the students and then have the nerve to try to blame them. If the students failed it's because the teacher failed to teach and correct them. Like I mentioned above if the teacher wasn't too busy flirting maybe she could have taught better and my hair wouldnt look a hot mess. Again like I said the students could have done a lot better with an actual teacher. I want to make it clear that my 1 star rating is based on the teacher not the students. read more

DON'T RISK GOING HERE! IF THEY MAKE A MISTAKE, THEY WILL CHARGE YOU TO CORRECT IT. Yes, it's true. I came here to get my hair dyed a purple ombre color and took a full day off work to have it done. After enduring 8 hours there, I ended up with a blotchy neon purple on top with faded lavender- not ombre at all (I've included photos here). They were supposed to cut my hair as well but ran out of time. Ok, I'll come back to have it re-done. They noted that I paid for both the haircut and the coloring and that it would be re-done (paid $125). I come back on the next available date that trainee Carter Thomas was available which was not within their 7 day "re-do" policy (no one told me that) but since Carter wasn't available within the 7 days, what could be the problem? Carter proceeds to re-do my hair but gets interrupted by the trainers/managers saying, "it'll cost you another $100 to do it over. That's our policy." What??!! So everytime YOU mess up someone's hair, THE CUSTOMER HAS TO PAY FOR YOUR MISTAKE? This made no business sense to me and I was livid. So if you keep making mistakes, DO I HAVE TO KEEP GIVING YOU MONEY TO CORRECT IT? What an interesting way to make money. They even refused to do the haircut that I had paid for. What??! This was the 2nd full day of work I lost due to this sketchy school who has no regard for their customers. I get it, they are learning, but they also need to learn to correct their mistakes. I talked with trainer Carla who was absolutely rude to me, and Tamara Ward who made no effort to resolve the situation. I left with my hair FRAZZLED AND BLEACHED BLONDE - so horrible. How do they sleep at night? Please, for the love of God, don't risk your precious hair to these people. I don't want your experience to be like mine. If you decide to go, at least read the negative reviews so you know what you're walking into. I really feel for these poor students who are not being taught a basic rule in business which is to leave your customer satisfied, at best happy. I was horrified by their policies and results will never return again. * Update: Called "Darlene M" 4 times before finally getting through, then asked to her leave a message and she will call me back. No call. After talking to "Darlene," she offer NO RESOLUTION, just forever repeating their 7-day policy for corrections and re-dos. I told her the colorist wasn't available within the 7 days so booked the appt. in 10 days. They didn't seem to care or make any exceptions, stating that to re-do my hair, it would cost another $100. They offered to cut my hair but the point was to complete and correct the color. Dang! Thanks for a call that just pissed me off again. So to repeat, DON'T COME HERE, EVER, WHETHER YOU'RE A STUDENT OR A CUSTOMER. read more

The haircuts are hit and miss. I've been to this spot twice, and for the same haircuts with different teachers and students. I apparently lucked out on my first time here because the teacher that was helping to guide the students cut my hair knew how to cater to what I wanted. The difference between the first teacher and the one I had recently was whether or not the teacher is open to the customers needs. For the first time, I had a male teacher and he, in my opinion, was very adept with what I wanted. He knew the desired length and slope of hair I wanted. (I went in for a long bob). While the second teacher brushed aside what I asked for, for length and decided one for her own. Both times the students are incredibly attentive and careful while cutting my hair; however, the teachers were the one that made or break the final product. I wanted a long bob for both times, and the first one nailed it, while the second time ignored request and instead said that my request was impossible to do. In the photos attached, they were both blowed Dried outward, but a noticeable difference is the length/slope of the hair. The first time around nailed it and the second time around the teacher ignored what I wanted and instead made it much longer than what I originally asked to do. The haircuts are cheap, so I'm not mad about not getting a perfect haircut second time around. Definitely recommend because the students here get better and better with time. read more

I was walking in the neighborhood and saw the school on Green Street. I had done barber schools before in college, but not recently. I called for an appointment and found out that Wednesday their haircuts are only $9, instead of $16! It was a no-brainer decision after that. I was very happy with the student who cut my hair and even trimmed my bushy eyebrows. I would have paid $9 just for that! The instructor was always hovering nearby in case we needed help and gave excellent advice. I will come again in a month with my roommate in tow as well. read more

I came in to get a haircut here & hairdresser Tony Tovar was amazing! He loved the length of my hair and did what he could to reserve the length and also cut off my split ends. I really appreciate his effort to leave my length the same, given this is something hair dressers do not respect. I've gone to salons many times where I only wanted to cut off my split ends and they end up leaving my hair really short. Tony was great! He also washed my hair while moisturizing the ends which hydrated my hair. After cutting he did an amazing job with my blow out. My hair was healthy, hydrated, and beautiful for the weekend. Went here because they have a good deal on Groupon. Came here on time for my appointment, 7 pm and my student got me and sat down on his station. My student asked me how I long should he cut my hair and what style. I specially told him everything that I want and even told to their instructor. So they washed my hair and did conditioning, it took 1hr already. So, they have to dry my hair for 20-30mins. Since I came in at 7-8:30 pm they just washed, conditioner my hair and dry, they haven't start cutting my hair. Around 8:30 pm the student finally start cutting my hair but he is so slow, I'm falling asleep. I wanna walk out so bad but I don't want to leave my hair is not done. So I waited and finally, he finished cutting my hair and that's at 9:40 pm. While he was blow drying my hair I stopped him and told him I need to leave, it's late already. Definitely, I'm not coming back here and I don't recommend this even though they have a good deal. Service is bad, I didn't get the hair cut I wanted plus student move so slow, waste of time. Ive been a couple of times recently and on Friday I got a really awesome blow dry by Jazmin G. and I just had to rave about her on yelp. She was sweet, gentle and fast! Got my hair cut and colored with Tony about 3 weeks ago and I am still so happy with the results! I was super nervous since it was the first time ever getting my hair bleached and colored - plus I was cutting off 7+ inches of hair. The check in process was easy and Tony made sure I was comfortable and happy every step of the way. I was a little apprehensive at first, this being a school and all, but from what I can tell by looking around, all the students are true "future professionals" A little less than a month and ~4-5 washes later, my hair has changed from a nice deep blue to a more vivid turquoise. It still looks amazing though and I am thoroughly happy with the result. I only got a few highlights done but now I cannot wait to get more of my hair colored!! read more

It is a school, so you will need to be patient and understanding. I had the lovely Jasmin work on my hair. Wish I got her to pass me the before and after photos of my hair because she did an excellent job. After frizzing my hair due to me constantly dying it in a short amount of time, Jasmin finally cut the dead ends and help me revitalise the feel of my hair. She listened to what i wanted (the style, the cut) and delivered exactly what I wanted. It took a good 2hrs, but it was worth the wait. I went in for a haircut last week and Natali was my stylist. I love how it turned out and Natali did an amazing job! I got so many compliments from my family & co-workers on my new haircut and how drastically different (in a good way!) my hair looks, especially the flow and texture. Natali seems so advanced in her skills. I was really impressed that she is a student because she is that good. She seemed like a pro already! Natali showed real confidence and professionalism. She worked without hesitation and really knew what she was doing. When I complimented her on her confidence and excellent skills, she simply and modestly replied, "I practice a lot." I'm updating my review of 3 months ago. Right now I'm waiting to go in for my 3rd set of "adjustments" (mistakes) to my color process. My hair right now is a combo of "yellow", "orange" and "red" brass. I look BAD. The highlights I chose were supposed to be an ashy light brown. It is worse than a do it yourself job, performed with cheap box dye. Inexcusable. My fringe is a completely different color from the rest of my hat. My stylist Alyssa did not rinse the bleach from my hair before toning so I'm terrified my hair is gonna break from over processing. Truly sad because I used to get great results. I generally do not complain about small mistakes but this is ridiculous. My cut is fine, but it was performed by an instructor. Also, take care about evaluating color while in the chair. Go outside and look. My hair hair looked like the wrong color in the studio, way too light, but in the light it looks dry and damaged. It looks like hay. Not just disappointing SCARY! read more

This is clearly a hit or miss. I came here because my regular stylist is out on maternity leave and I didn't want to spend $65 + tip for a trim somewhere else. Boy was that a mistake. I now have bangs (aka the shortest layers) in the back of my head and somehow the longer layers in the front. I went in with 22+ inch hair and now have to cut it down to 16' just to semi even it out. My stylist friend told me the hair up top is actually more like 14'!!!!!!!!!!!!!! who does that! I left with a blow dry no styling (I have no idea why) and honestly just about died walking out the door. I am a really nice person sometimes too nice and Hailey was just standing at the register until I left so I honestly felt like I couldn't complain to the ppl in the front. So I just smiled. If you have beautiful long hair PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT COME HERE. Just pay the extra money. I asked for a trim and came out looking like a mop. I came to Paul Mitchell School on March 6 and was supposed to be there at 11am but there scheduling is not very efficient because when my friend scheduled the first time it was back in February but I decided to cancel due to financial reasons and when my friend scheduled the appointment for March at 11am they called her and told her to switch it to 230 in the afternoon so we did and when I got there I had a student who was doing cosmetology for 5 months! I was very concerned due to the fact that I have naturally curly hair and my hair is thick as well so she while she was doing my hair she had about maybe 6 or so of her instructors to cut my hair and she did very little at the end my hair in the back looked great but in front it doesn't look very good but I realize yes its a school and yes they're students but this girl shouldn't have done my hair they should've given me a student who was there a little bit longer but in the long run I paid 16.00 as far as coming back or if I do come back I will request a Phase 2 student not a Phase one student read more
