Students are energetic, polite, and seem confident in their work. I recently recieved a scalp treatment, and loved the way I was treated. This appointment made me aware that I actually have a minor scalp condition, not just dry skin and dandruff. Despite discovering this, the girl was polite, efficient, and did a great job with the whole process. I did discover, after leaving, that all along my hairline was a bit of the product- it hasn't been washed out completely. Also, they didn't finish drying my hair, which was disappointing bc salons dry it better than I do, and as soon as I walked out into the Rexburg freezing weather, my hair froze up, too. I have gotten my hair cut here, as well as a bleaching and toning color service - two separate appointments. Keep in mind this is a school. No one here has a completed cosmetology license and these people have not graduated. You are basically their barbie dolls and they are practicing on you. You have to accept that otherwise you're not going to have a good time. lol My first appointment was OK, the girl cutting my hair had trouble cutting evenly but she got a manager to help and it turned out fine. Considering this is a $12 haircut, I was willing to deal with somewhat ok/amateur work, so it was fine in the end. My second appointment was so much better than the first, mainly because there was no actual hair cutting. I got my hair dyed a bright red from a bad blonde highlight on dark hair. I got it done with Paige and Rachelle and they were super friendly and talkative. Paige did most of the styling as Rachelle had to leave, and Paige also did a small shaved line on my eyebrow. I was very happy with the work done and paid less than $85 total. I also got color safe shampoo - they have a very nice store. Their lobby is very clean, but it is bustling with people. No one really wears a mask, so be careful and wear a mask if you are concerned about that sort of thing. Thanks! read more

We were excited to try the school out as we were from out of town and wanted a wash and dry. Both my friend and I noticed the shampoo skills were awful. Very little product and the girls both just kind of rubbed some product on top and rinsed. This should be the first skill mastered and the second should be the amount of product put in the hair. She used way too much product and even after dried my hair felt sticky and dirty. My stylist was friendly and professional however she did miss a spot while drying and I had to help myself at her station. We didn't mind that it took 75 min , although when I made the appointments they said 45minutes. The salon itself is very nice however it seems like the school must want the students to really try and up-sell the products. Although the floor instructor asked if I was happy in front of the student I thought for sure there would have been a client review. Probably could be great if you find someone who is almost done or really skilled. read more

The sides speak for themselves. I told the girl not to touch the sides too and the instructor case by and made sure she understood not to touch the sides. My question is why did she and why did the instructor let me leave without this being fixed. Not happy at all. I just don't understand what she tried to do and why she would when I told her not to. You first off have to understand that we are students still learning. This is why we have a consent form to begin with. As students we learn for 6 weeks and the rest of our learning all depends on being "on the floor." Hearing many of these reviews, I am sad to see so many clients not happy with what they have received. Though I can not go back and change the past, I can offer my services and hopefully make them better! Paul Mitchell has been an amazing learning environment for me and I have been able to find a passion I can keep for a long time. New students will be nervous and old students too! The girl that did my nails was very sweet but I think $16 is too much for the manicure I got. Lower prices for student work. Also I was hoping for acrylic French tips but discovered that the girl doing my nails didn't do that, which was a little disappointing. If you're a college student, or just want really cheap haircuts, facials, lash lifts, etc. then this is a great place. I like their services, and the staff are fun to talk to. I have always gone on Fridays, and then I found out that on Fridays, that's when the seniors and the students with the most experience typically work. They're so cheap because you're just paying for the products/ tools used (students don't get paid for work. It's just for them to practice). I bought the premium which was $80 for the year where I got services 1/2 off and free basic facials every month (and I think free haircuts). The only minor problem is that it seems to work better if you make appointments only, and sometimes when you go to your appointment on time they still take a while to get you to where you need to go. The students have tight schedules and they're not given enough time for the next customer which leads to your appointment happening later than what was planned. Because I usually schedule for 2 to 3+ services, sometimes it takes me a couple of hours from start to finish (which is fine for me because it makes the $ worth it and I get to talk with the amazing staff!). I would not recommend going if you're under a tight schedule that day. read more

It is worth it to get the VIP membership if you find yourself constantly going in for appointments and other treatments. I went in for a trim once and ended up being there for 2 hours because they took their time combing and blow drying my hair. It's like sitting in on a class! :) Bad: the color didn't stay (my fault for picking the kind that fades easily) takes a long time. If u don't have all day don't come here. I went in and was really excited to change up my color and cut. I have a pixie that I'm growing out and wanted to get into the direction of a bob. I made an appt and requested a Phase 2 student. The girl doing it asked me what color I was looking for. I described it to her and she brought back a color book and said "this is what we can do." Normally my stylist does that part for me and I don't have to pick a color. I picked one but wasn't sure it would end up like how I wanted so I showed some pictures and they changed the formula. The color ended up nice but wasn't exactly what I was looking for and 3 weeks out it's now a not so pretty color (I use color safe shampoo and conditioner and rarely use heat). I've never had a color fade so fast. As for my cut, I was really looking for advice on how to cut it so it would gradually get to where I wanted. I had a mullet thing going on in the back that I really wanted to get cleaned up while my front grew. She did the cut and now I realize she never took any length off the back, just shaped the layers I had a bit. So I still have a mullet and have to go somewhere to get it cut again. Also, while talking to the girl she told me she had only been in school for 3 months. I'm not sure how that is a Phase 2 student. I know they are learning but the environment felt very impersonal and cold. And it took FOREVER. The instructor also didn't check the haircut at the end. I mean, it's a school ‍ so it's not going to be perfect. The first time I went was a pretty bad experience, the girl pulled my hair and took a over two hours just to trim my hair. She also insisted on curling my hair and taking a picture afterwards even though I was late for class. I could tell she was under pressure though and I didn't mind too much. I went back a few weeks later and I got someone else, and she was amazing! She fixed my hair cut and did a really good hair color. I honestly think it all comes down to who you get. Try to find someone there who I humble enough to listen to the instructor (and you) and it'll definitely be worth it. Also the VIP is awesome! read more

My husband and I purchased the VIP membership for $25, which gets you unlimited haircuts for a year and 50% off all other services. We both get our hair trimmed once a month, so this was a great deal for us. It does take a while because the instructor has to approve the consultation, the cut, and the final style. However, it is worth it to me for the money I am saving. They are students, but if they make a mistake you need to inform the instructors. That is the point...they are still learning! We both got our first cuts there and it was a great experience. Xoie, who cut my hair, is really close to graduation and she really listened to all my hair issues and used products that would help with my damage from a previous trip to a salon in Rexburg. She was exceptional, friendly, and really professional. My husband enjoyed his hair cut as well and keep talking about the hot towel they put on his face while they washed his hair. I called on Friday and was able to be booked the same day. I was very hesitant to come here and I spent a couple of days looking at reviews. That completely changed when I walked in. Meagan was my stylist and she did a fantastic job! We talked about the haircut I wanted and then we talked about the color. I've colored my hair before but when I came in I had two different colors in my hair that had faded badly. She got the swatch board and matched me and she asked questions about what I was looking for and explainers the different dyes to me. We found a perfect color for me that turned out really well! While she was cutting my hair she made sure it was the length I wanted and was comfortable with and did a lot of finger checks to get it even. I was extremely impressed with the fact that when she didn't think she was doing it right or was hesitant that she would get her instructor to double check her work or help before trying to correct it herself or just saying that she was done. It does take time because they are still learning, but you have two people working on your hair to get it right! read more

When my daughter attended this school I went often for services and she always did a good job and was always booked out at least two weeks. My hair always looked great! However, if these students are being trained to be professionals then there are some serious problems. I personally had a hair color scheduled and got behind a wreck that held me up in traffic. I was running a little bit late but had texted my daughter to make her aware of the situation, which she relayed to the front desk. When I arrived at the school the little gal working the front desk for the evening was incredibly rude and unprofessional with me. Her exact words were, "um and just so you know if you are going to be late you really need to call us because I was going to give your appointment away". I told her that I had been caught behind a wreck and had let the stylist know and that I did not have the school's phone number handy. She told me that I should have looked it up and called them because and again she said, "just so you know". Honestly I felt like telling her that "just so you know" manners go a long way. I know that when she gets out in the real world and is working that lack of professionalism will get her nowhere fast. Also be aware that you will need to set aside a large block of time when you go in because it is a learning environment and it takes longer. read more

You definitely get what you pay for. I wanted to get a color done there. I was adding blond highlights to my hair which already had a lot of blond in it from a previous ombré. I even showed a picture of what it was that I wanted. When she was adding the highlights, she didn't touch the bottom of my hair at all! The entire underneath of my hair is still completely brown. And you can honestly not even tell that I dyed my hair at all. It does not look any more blond that what it was before. She also put bleach on the parts of my hair that were already blond! All this did was completely destroy and ruin my hair and for the first week or so my hair was coming out in chunks. Also it took THREE hours for her to put the bleach into my hair, and like I said she didn't even do my full head! I would never go here again. I asked her how long she had been doing hair, and she had been doing it for over a year... these people are not trustworthy with your hair! read more

I have nothing against the students or people that work here. In fact, I have a couple of friends that are currently study or have studied here. I am basing this review on the pure ability to cut and style hair. The quality is extremely hit and miss. Sometimes, the person cutting your hair is one of the people that is getting ready to graduate, sometimes it is someone cutting hair for the first time in their life. I know they are just learning, but man, I have been butchered here too many times. It's not a service that I feel like paying for. My wife made the mistake of getting her coloring done here once, and they turned her hair gray. She had to endure her friends calling her "grandma" until she finally had it "fixed" the next day, which really wasn't much better than the original disaster and cost her a whopping $50! For a person studying to go into this field, Paul Mitchell is the best. For a person looking for a decent haircut, pretty much anywhere else is a better option. read more

I am extremely unsatisfied with this school. I got a gift certificate from them to come in and get a complete makeover. The certificate has no expiration date, however it has been a couple years since I got the certificate. I figured that it didn't have an expiration date I could go when I have time to drive to Rexburg. I called to see if I could use my certificate and was told no it expires after a year. Ok I understand things such as this but if this is the case WRITE AN EXPIRATION DATE!!!! I don't find it fair that I lose out on this because they failed to tell me there was an expiration date. The lady I spoke to on the phone was very rude. She made me read the whole certificate to her, however half way through she basically told me too bad I should have known the expiration date. I will NEVER participate in anything this school offers again if this is how I will be treated later. I'm sorry I participated and won a gift certificate what a waste. read more
