Story: I only had one day to get my hair done since I waited til the last minute and salons are usually closed on Sun and Monday and I was flying out on a Tuesday. Yikes! But after a few phone calls to different salons I got on the phone with Paul and it all worked out....yay! He was able to book my Keratin treatment and Haircut and his prices were very reasonable. I'm a NYer and they matched what I paid out there. *I paid $360 including tip. I loved that he cut my hair at his home salon and on his patio! There is only one safe way to do a Brazilian Blowout - do it outside with fans, which is exactly what Paul does. His private studio has a beautiful deck overlooking the Hollywood Hills and he runs a standing fan, to make absolute sure that his clients are protected from the fumes. I just love that extra care and detail that he provides! He also explains how everything works, to make sure that I know how to take care of the treatment after I leave, to get maximum results. I was very nervous about doing the Brazilian blowout because I've heard it can not work or terribly ruin your hair. Paul called me quickly after getting my appt request, had me send photos of my hair and quoted a price over the phone based on my hair type and length. Salon is at his house, had treatment done on his patio due to fumes. Took a couple hours. He answered my questions re washing post treatment thoroughly. I waited till my first time fully washing and doing my hair after my treatment - amazing! I'm so happy I did it with Paul. He's professional, stuck to his price and made my hair so easy to deal with. I found Paul through Groupon and thought it was a pretty good deal for a Brazilian blowout (especially given his incredible reviews). I had an okay experience with him. I think he's a lovely person but the whole "salon" is sketchy. The idea of going into a man's home alone in the secluded Hollywood Hills is very risky. I know it ended up being fine but in retrospect (and this day and age), the idea of having young women blindly go into a man's house they met off the internet sounds a little too "Dateline" for me. Anyway, the Brazilian turned out just okay for me. First, he used the old version of Brazilian Blowout called "Brazilian Zero" - that's not what the company Brazilian Blowout manufactures anymore. I've had my hair done since going here and have been educated since. The product should be in a brown bottle. Not blue. Next, Paul didn't completely finish the process on me. He washed my hair, put the product in, blow dried my hair, smoothed it over with a straightener, and then told me to wash it myself tomorrow. He completely missed the next step of putting the ionic spray on. I didn't know this at the time. He just told me to go buy the ionic spray so when I did, the lady at the store looked at me in horror and said "wow that guy doesn't know what he's doing." After I washed my hair, I blow dried my hair myself and sent a picture to Paul to show him how frizzy it still looked. He just said it was the blow dryer I was using/ my hair wouldn't be perfect.. and to use a flat iron and more dry oil on the ends.... I found someone new to do my Brazilians. I don't need a flat iron.. in fact I can air dry sometimes and my hair comes out perfect. So.. yes. This helped me cut down my time to flat iron my hair... but not a true Brazilian experience. Paul's home salon is located up in the windy streets of Hollywood Hills - I found street parking, but Paul later told me I could have parked in the driveway. He's super sweet and has the cutest pets! I found out about his salon through Groupon. I've never had a Brazilian blowout before, and Paul's outdoor salon was such a comfortable setting for my first blowout experience. I expected it to take around 3 hours, but it actually only took about 1.5-2 hours. I'm DELIGHTED with how everything turned out :) I used to do a lot of coloring/bleaching to my hair, so it's suffered quite a bit of damage, along with frequent straightening. It used to take me about an hour to style my hair, and often I'd resort to putting it up in a ponytail or bun. Now I literally wake up, and my hair is straight, soft and silky. Such a time saver. I got it done about 2 weeks ago, and it's holding up pretty well. Just make sure you use sulfate-free shampoo to maintain the results longer! read more

So Paul Nash Salon is a private salon set up in his home in Hollywood Hills. It's not the most conventional type of salon, right? But i.m.o, that's what sets him apart - unconventionality in talent, business style, and experience. I always seek out what's unique & cutting edge so I was pleasantly surprised to come across Paul's salon. The salon room is very quaint, professional and charming. I thought the set up & idea of private home salon was awesome once I checked it out & saw how he did it (b/c at first I was very iffy abt the whole home private salon thing). I read Paul's website before I went & saw his credentials & experience. (Sidenote: I used to cut my own hair for years bc I didn't think stylists offered anything more from what I could do at home. I've only recently gone back to stylists & am very wary). I went to him to get a cut only. I loved Paul's personal focus & attention to achieve whatever your goal is for your hair. He asks you what you want & up to the very end makes sure you're happy with your hair before you walk out. I didn't have a certain image in mind for myself but just had a few criteria (ex: volume for the flatness, keep the length, soften texture, clean look overall) & he went to work with lots of sense. In my quest for a new hairdresser, I was referred to Paul after gushing over a fellow colleague's haircut. Being a poor graduate student (emphasis on poor), it's difficult to also be stylish but I think Paul was able to cater to my needs. He was able to offer me a special rate for the referral, and I believe that he was just as friendly and accommodating to me as he generally is with his more affluent clientele. Paul (or as he calls himself, Paulie) is very friendly and easy to talk to. He is very honest-- even called out my looking "afraid and apprehensive" (I wasn't, I swear) --considering the setting that I found myself in. He recognized my dire need to liven up my hair, and he knew exactly how to cut my hair. Being an indecisive Pisces, I was quite pleased with this. He said that he will do this and that for my bone structure and stupidly narrow forehead (okay, "stupidly" is the term I injected in there), and I put all my trust in him. Three inches off the bottom and with more appropriate layering less than an hour later, he said that I look like I have hair again (as an Asian, I am cursed with very fine, dull, and flat hair). I couldn't agree more. I am also blind, so my glasses were off for the whole duration of the cut and a nice surprise greeted me at the end. Around January 2012, I found out I'd be leaving the next week for a three week business trip. I'd be changing countries (and therefore climates) during those three weeks, and I knew my thick and frizz-prone hair could use some kind of keratin treatment (Brazilian, Global Keratin, anything to take the edge off!). I called Paul, who was very pleasant to speak to, and was happy that he could squeeze me in that week. The treatment itself was efficient--about two hours--and effective--it stretched out for about 3 months, which is the best you can get from a keratin. Paul was just as nice in person as he was on the phone. He recommended a post-wash hair serum, and although I usually resist being sold products, I did happen to need a new serum and gave it a try. I'm really glad I did: it acted exactly as he said it would, lasted 6 months (you only use 3 drops at a time), and is just a great product. Paul is prompt at returning phone messages, tries to work with your schedule (extends his hours if you can't do anything else that week), is well-priced, and most importantly, does a great job. Keratin treatments aren't the cheapest, and it's very frustrating when they fade within a month. Happy to recommend Paul! read more

I loved everything about the experience, including his lovely assistant, who happens to be his girlfriend. Everyone was super friendly, extremely talented and all in a very nice environment. I am more of a city girl and I don't usually dig the outdoors for extended periods of time but I loved that my straightening treatment was applied outside on his deck with views to the Hollywood Hills, he even turned on a fan to blow away the chemicals and prevent them from being irritating. Paul, you changed my life! I went to Paul for my first brazilian blowout with a bloomspot deal. Best experience ever! His salon is the downstairs of his house with this great patio with a view and a really cute, homey set up. But don't be fooled by the fact that he's not in a salon -- he is SUPER professional. I told him I wanted to dye my hair and he picked the PERFECT color I always look for but rarely get. A dark chocolate brown that doesn't look mousy or flat. He was SHOCKED at how much hair I have (I have a TON of hair) but he managed to get it all one consistent color. Then, we were about to start the brazilian blowout when he asked if I loved my hair how it was. I told him I was growing it out but I was pretty "whatever" about it. It turns out, for whatever reason, stylists will NEVER cut my hair. I tell them I want something different and all they do is "shape it up," and "refresh it." I think "I am growing out my hair" doesn't seem consistent with "I want something different." Anyway, Paul asked me if he could cut my hair and how much I was willing to lose, so I asked, "Well how much do you want me to lose??" He came right back with "Well do you wanna look just ok or do you wanna look GREAT?" Obviously I told him I wanted to look great and that I trusted him to do what he thought was best (I have a ton of hair so I'm not really scared of messing it up because I can always get it fixed). He instinctively knew just how to cut my side bangs and how to give my hair a style that would go well with my new and improved brazilian blown-out hair. Anyway, onto the life changing part. My hair is ALL FRIZZ. It's big and could be curly if you ever found a way around the frizz. It's been 26 years and I haven't been able to figure it out, and either has any hair-stylist I've ever gone to. So, I straighten my hair which takes at least an hour with blow drying. I told Paul I did NOT want my hair to be stick straight or flat and I didn't want to lose all my volume. He said it would take down the volume by maybe 30% (much appreciated 30% I've got too much volume) and that it wouldn't be totally straight. It took a little over an hour to do the treatment, which he did on his patio and pointed a fan at my face which meant I didn't have to deal with the nasty chemical fumes. I waited 3 days to write this review so I could see how it looks natural and how hard it is to straighten. I swear, it looks like I walked out of the salon even when I just get out of the shower, put in some shine serum, and blow-dry my side-bangs. Straightening it takes 10 minutes with a blowdryer. It's not totally curly natural, it's just got these nice soft waves to it. I used to dread having to wash my hair because of how long it would take to get it to look MILDLY presentable. Now, I'm totally cool going to the gym early in the morning knowing I'll be able to wash it and it'll look good to go in under 10. Also, I'm studying for the bar exam, so this brazilian blowout was a savior because there's no way to go in public with my hair unless it's done, but who has time to straighten a shit-ton of hair when you're studying 12 hours a day? Today, we had a waterballoon fight for my boyfriends birthday and I had no qualms whatsoever getting my hair wet because I knew it would dry and still look fine whereas before it would have turned into some crazy frizz-ball with a little bit of moisture. Overall, Paul knows exactly what he's doing, he's good at it, his assistant/girlfriend is SUPER, SUPER nice, she was really gentle washing my hair, his dogs are SUPER cute, and his whole set up is really nice. read more

I went to Paul for a haircut and Brazilian Blowout. I had always dreamed of having it done and found a great deal and decided to go to Paul based on his reviews. I ended up being 10 minutes late due to traffic (and me forgetting how long it takes to drive through Hollywood) but I called him and he was very gracious about it. He lives on a hill on a very narrow street, which I had no problem parking on. My hair is very thick and long and I had no idea what I wanted to do with it, but he was very patient with me and gave me a great haircut. Then I had the Brazillian Blowout and only had a few minutes of irritation to my nose and throat. I have never had anything done to my hair though so I'm probably more sensitive than others. I sat out on his back porch for the BB and it was a gorgeous day. I had such a relaxing time that I almost fell asleep while my still long hair was being done. It's been a few days since the treatment now and my hair is still gorgeous. I hope it lasts! So far I believe it was definitely worth getting done. I don't know that I'll be able to splurge on something like this very often, but for now I'm super happy with my results. My hair feels so healthy and smooth. You see, I am a Beauty queen and International model and my hair simply is eveything to me. I have very long, thick, lustrous, glorious dark hair and it really is a big part of my look. I dread getting a haircut and have gone as long as couple of years to not snip the scissors away.
