I was then told I would receive an estimate. The estimate I finally got was over $6,000 with my insurance, and I assumed that price covered the entire implant treatment. When I showed the estimate to my general dentist, they suggested it might be only for the first stage (extraction and bone graft). I called the clinic to confirm, and they said that was correct--the quote was just for extraction + bone graft, not the full implant. I asked for a comprehensive estimate for the whole treatment, which I think is a reasonable request--especially for something this expensive. I called multiple times, left voice messages and emailed, but never received a response. Because of this, I decided to go with another recommended periodontist. When I showed the new doctor that estimate, they were surprised--"Just extraction and bone graft for that much?" This second clinic has an excellent reputation and many cases, and I was able to get the entire implant treatment for under $3,000--about half of this clinic's quote just for the initial stage. Most importantly, unlike Dr. Moskowitz's clinic, they answer the phone promptly and respond kindly to messages. Finally, I was surprised to receive a bill for a March visit recently (It's been 6 months!). If I had actually proceeded with treatment there, I would understand the charges and would be willing to pay. But after no replies and no comprehensive estimate, I had to find another provider. Charging me for that visit feels unfair--it left me wondering what that appointment accomplished, and it ended up being a waste of time and money.

He is very outgoing, very easy to talk to, listens carefully and explains everything really well. He's also very focused on your comfort during procedures. My initial impression of this practice was very high. I really like Dr Di Umoh's caring manner. I…read morehad gum surgery twice. The first was osseous surgery, which went well. My only issue was the heavy meds they prescribe as a matter of course. Another friend mentioned that too. I did not need the oxy pills and I never intended to take them, which I did not. The second time, I had gum grafting done. Again, during the surgery, Dr Di was very caring and professional. My follow up appointment was about six weeks later, and I still was having lots of discomfort and had another adjacent tooth that was numb. That was a very difficult appointment, not because of the doctor, but because of rough handling by the two assistants. I also have never regained normal feeling in the roof of my mouth (the donor tissue site), and it has now been over two years. I was told after the surgery it might take up to a year a year for the nerves to heal. I wish there had been more review of possible complications and negative potential outcomes before surgery. I don't recall seeing an informed consent form or discussing that with anyone on the team.

Fast forward, my wife and I moved to the Annapolis area a few years ago and we had to find all new doctors. Dr. Miele was recommended to my wife to do a complex procedure that should have been quite painful, but my wife told me that Dr. Miele performed magic, as her procedure was painless and perfect. Dr. Miele sets the bar to the top as an incredibly warm, compassionate and extremely professional doctor. I think the warm and compassionate traits are somewhat rare in the medical field, my wife and I are truly lucky to have found Dr. Miele. Now, to my procedure, magic! Yep, that's about all I can say. It was the second to the back, top tooth, close to my sinus and tricky to extract without any complications. Dr. Miele, again, demonstrated warmth and compassion, while being a top doctor in her field. I had a couple of teeth on both sides that had root canals and had been crowned almost 20-years…read moreago, that were failing and all four needed to be pulled. The choice was a bridge on both sides, which I wasn't crazy about on my rear molars, or to venture into world of implants. My dentist didn't offer them and recommended me to a specialist, Dr Mandel. Upon my first visit, Dr Mandel took x-rays, did an examination, and offered a game plan to attack it one side at a time. The one-side needed bone grafts, and he suggested tackling that first, and then onto the other side. However, this doubled the time frame before new crowns could be installed to six-months on that side. We discussed the process, and he thoroughly walked me through the entire procedure, answering my questions, and offering a consultative approach to making sure I was comfortable and had realistic expectations. While I was very nervous about what was involved and how long it would take, the decision was made to have it done right and to move forward with the procedure. Well, almost one year later and now having the new crowns installed, and I can say without a doubt it was a great decision. They look great, feel great, and certainly beat a bridge or dentures. While it was indeed a process, Dr Mandel was a total pro throughout the entire ordeal. He was extremely meticulous in every aspect of the journey, from the first examination, to being unbelievably good at everything around implants. In fact, it went so well, I decided to finally have a cosmetic dental makeover on my entire upper teeth. I ask Dr Mandel for a recommendation, and he sent me to another very professional and talented dentist. When all the 20-year crowns were removed on my top teeth, it became necessary to have two more teeth extracted, and once again it was determined by my dentist that two of my top teeth were gone and it was either a bridge or a couple more implants, so back to Dr Mandel. The difference is this time I had total confidence in Dr Mandel, and as before it went incredibly smooth. In a matter of a couple of hours, he performed two very difficult extractions, and like a mad scientist, placed the two implants. In the meantime, I have a temp on my entire upper teeth and will wait out the next 3-4 months before having the crowns installed so it's all done at the same time and I can get the best match. For anyone who may be scared or nervous about considering having implants vs dentures, bridges, or simply missing a tooth, it's not nearly as scary as it sounds. The key is to see a real pro like Dr Mandel. This dentist is incredible, and his mannerisms and skill make it clear he is truly a maestro at what he does. He instilled confidence every step of the way, performed extremely difficult procedures, and the outcome has become wonderful. In addition to these very important aspects, he was also one heck of a nice guy that literally couldn't have made it more pleasant through it all. I'm very appreciative that I found him to go through this process, and that it actually gave me the motivation and desire to tackle a full dental makeover. I can honestly say I don't think I would have jumped all in without Dr Mandel's encouragement, guidance, and reassurances along the way.
