The food is fresh, the food is really good and the service is excellent. I did not care for the pizza but the pasta was absolutely the best pasta I've ever had. The service was phenomenal and I can't wait to come back here. If you're in the area and you want a wonderful delicious meal this is the place to go! Please tell them that Andy's buddy sent you !! Depressing atmosphere. Avoid. Don't be fooled by the kitschy old town style exterior. Go to Little Italy on 62 if you want real Italian food made from scratch by a chef who puts love into his food or L'auberge de France around the corner for a nice Parisian lunch made fresh. read more

We had takeout last night. Ordered greek salad chicken parmigiana and salmon dinner. We specifically told the waitress we don't want any green peppers in any of the meals. Well they listened but loaded the Greek salad with red and yellow peppers. No lettuce!!! We asked that the salmon cooked medium. And it was overdone. Oh and on the meals. Yup. More red yellow pep peppers no zucchini or asparagus as was indicated. We were planning to host an event there in fall for our anniversary but will have to find an alternative. Updated review, visited due to a gift card. We shared the special crab cakes which were very good, price was not posted and I was surprised that they charged $27 for them. Hubby had Beef Bourguignon which was good but was surprised it was a creamy sauce. I had 1/2 rack of lamb which was also very good and cooked as I had ordered, came with mashed potatoes and fresh veggies (peppers, zucchini and snow peas) which were tasty and just nicely stir fried. Service again was very good and friendly. This visit changed my previous opinion of this restaurant. read more

I'm giving this place a 3 (A-OK) because that's what it is - however, in an area as replete of good food as Belleville is, this is truly one of the better places to eat. The room is lovely - airy, with interesting colours and stereotypical white and red plaid table clothes that are perfect in their setting. Really, the best part of the place is the setting and how it's been decorated. The second best part of the visit was our waiter - who was attentive and service oriented. The food was fine. It wasn't exciting or inspired, but was good solid Italian style food. For what we received, I did find it a bit over-priced at $15 - $20 per entrée. (I'd love to see the pricing more in the range of $12 - $16 per entrée.) I had the cannelloni stuffed with spinach and ricotta (a special) which was enjoyable. Hubby had the chicken parmesian - I tasted it and found it slightly overcooked for my taste, but it was good. Daughter had Ceasar Salad and rated it as "fine". The Son had a salmon pasta, and seemed to enjoy it. I didn't get a taste. :-( They have a wood fired oven - so might be good to try to pizza if we make a return visit. Disappointing. Needs to resume to normal good Italian restaurant often does well on seafood linguine. This weekend visit surprised me with their seafood linguine that no longer was served with fresh seafood but with low-priced frozen tiny medley and lots of artificial crab. Certainly the artificial crab is not seafood at all. And, allow me, pasta was served in haste, not tossed or cooked with cream sitting beneath. This is $30+ pasta main. Hard to imagine it could be a piece of work from Chef. Dining experience was spoiled as it appeared to be made by someone unfamiliar with Italian cuisine. Missed the good old days. We had a very nice evening at Paulo's tonight. The restaurant has a nice ambiance and the waiters and waitresses were all very friendly. The food was very tasty and we enjoyed all our meals. The Mango chicken pasta was very tasty, and chicken parmigiana was good too, though I would have preferred it to be crispier. There were a lot of interesting sounding pastas on the menu which I would love to try some other time. The bruschetta was very tasty indeed. We would go here again. read more

Worked at dinkles doing and outdoor sandblasting job for the owner.. can't say enough about the people working there friendly ,helpful and just all around nice and MR Dinkel was a great person to deal with... they gave myself and my crew wood fired pizza the first day there and on the second day they made us pasta with white sauce and one with red... both extremely well done and tasteful would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys good local food . read more

When a friend visited from out of town yesterday I wanted to show him a nicer spot in Belleville and so we opted for Paulos - I had heard many good things. I really wanted to like this place because I want to support independent restaurants and downtown Belleville really needs more places like Paulos downtown, but I was really overwhelmed by my experience here. The only redeeming quality was our server (Morgan?) who was really sweet and helpful. It was lunch hour on a Monday and there were just a few other tables taken. Firstly, the place needs a bit of a makeover. The curtain to keep heat in the place as you are walking in looks like a carpeted shower curtain. The booth we sat in needs to be re-upholstered. It just felt really dated. The beams and high ceiling are really nice, though. The open kitchen design is enjoyable too. They appeared to have bright, sunny seating upstairs; however, our server informed us the seating is only available on Fridays and Saturday. Our server brought us a bottle of water right away - I always enjoy this because it saves everyone the hassle of refilling water glasses over and over. She was able to list off all the beers offered on draft and by the bottle. They have a typical line-up. Steamwhistle on draft and by the bottle - Coors, Molson, Stella, Peroni, and one local beer from Prince Edward County (Bearly Bay?). My friend ordered the Bearly Bay and said it was surprisingly good. I wish they would have had more local beers featured. Shortly thereafter, she brought some bread and packets of butter and told us of the specials. I ordered the Naomi's Special 8' pizza lunch special with a garden salad (which typically comes with raspberry vinaigrette but I opted for balsamic and olive oil). I was undecided on the lemon chicken pizza or Naomi's special (pesto, brie, mango, and pine nuts) and my server was knowledgeable enough to help me settle. Lunch was served promptly. We were not offered any fresh ground pepper or parmesan, but she happily obliged when we requested. On the whole, the food was rather disappointing. I would not recommend Naomi's special. It was nothing to write home about. Largely, the salad left me hungry. The lettuce tasted as though it was straight from a box of spring mix with a few cucumbers, carrot shavings and tomatoes and it was drenched in dressing. I hardly touched it. The most disappointing aspect of this restaurant was the fact that it did not seem fresh. Butter was in packets, parmesan was not fresh, dressing (though I asked for balsamic and olive oil) was almost definitely Renée's ® Balsamic Vinaigrette, lettuce tasted like package spring mix. It's a restaurant and you sort of expect things are made from scratch and fresh, no? It just felt lazy. For my 8' pizza and salad, and my friends 8' pizza and beer, the bill was $37 + tip. I really don't mind paying that, but I had higher expectations for Paulos. I know Belleville doesn't have much as far as fine dining goes but really, I had higher hopes for this place. Bottom line: Service was good, but the food was nothing to rave about - disappointing even. Based on this experience I would not recommend the place. I might visit for a beer on the patio in the summer but will pass on the food. read more

Stopped in for a light dinner while passing through Belleville. Won't make the same mistake again. The menu has a Foodland Ontario logo, and claims that as many ingredients as possible are local. In Prince Edward County in August, that seems fairly simple to pull off. But what do we get? A mixed-green salad that's about 80% tasteless supermarket romaine, with some cucumbers, carrots and indifferent dressing. We inquire about the $16.75 pasta with basil, pine nuts and fresh tomatoes, and the waitress has no idea where the tomatoes are from, except that they're probably not local. $16.75 for THAT? So we order pizza: chicken, pine nuts, arugula, cheese. Yawn. This equally overpriced concoction has a few chunks of chicken on top of lots of mozzarella, under which there are some badly wilted greens and a few scattered pine nuts. (Why not put fresh arugula on top after the pizza comes out of the oven? I guess it would take an actual chef to think of that.) Service is painfully slow despite the fact that the restaurant is nearly empty. It takes forever to get our bill and then to get our credit card payment processed. We can't get out of there fast enough. read more

Eating fabulous pasta is one of the joys in life. Paolo's delivers this and so much more in a beautifully and carefully restored building in the heart of downtown Belleville. Succulent salmon, delicious oven-fired pizza and pasta to absolutely die for were enjoyed with a Prince Edward County Merlot from Huff Estates. Entrees were delivered correctly without auctioning but our enthusiastic server somehow forgot the customary check back and had to be flagged down to return vegetables to the kitchen for warming. Strange too that the dipping sauce accompanying our calamari was served in one of those very small waxed paper cups that McDonald's uses to dispense ketchup. No matter. The food tasted exceptionally fine, I was having fun with my dinner companions and it was one of those evenings when the conversation could have lingered on well after the last drop of after dinner coffee. I was in town for business and was recommended this restaurant by the B&B I was staying at! I was eating alone, the restaurant was about a 1/3 full, and one table had about 9 people, but it took a while for the server to come to my table. Once he did, I had a great meal; house salad with a great dressing and chicken penne with vodka sauce. The meal was delicious! I wish I could give Paulo's a 2.5 star because that is what it is. It's not amazing, however it is not terrible. Given the state of restaurants in Belleville however, this one fairs quite well. To start, the waitress waited forever to come and take our orders. When she finally did she failed to ask any of us whether we would like a drink. I had to later flag her down to order some wine. We started with the Bruschetta and a Caesar salad (to share for 3) the salad was so so, not a terrible amount of flavour. Just plain. The bruschetta was horribly disappointing, no flavour at all, no onions, jut a lot of balsamic vinegar, it seems throughout the restaurant they use light olive oil which again, has no flavour. On to the main, I had the poached salmon with grilled vegetables. To start, the salmon is served totally plain, so sauce or addition of flavour at all. Also the veggies were all practically raw, and drowning in that light olive oil. We asked whether or not they served bread here and our server said that she forgot it. So we finally got some. It was really seeming that our waitress did not want to be serving us and this became apparent when she did my offer us dessert. And then gave us the bill before asking if we would like coffee or tea. Overall we would go back, out expectations of food in this city are pretty low so this is, in our opinion, a successful night. read more

Service was attentive however our server seemed to keep getting in my personal space and reaching right in front of my face to service guests on the other side of the table. I was quite disappointed after coming to Paulos after about 10 years. (Wasn't impressed back then either). The menu is pretty limited and they are skimpy on the portions. The Caesar salad was barely dressed and the prices are very high for the amount of food you get! Any other Italian restaurant is better in Belleville, I don't know why people like this place so much. Stopped here during a road trip and really appreciated the fact that this restaurant is open later than basically every establishment in the area! It's a really cute place, friendly waiters and good service. I ordered the penne pescatore and the shrimp and scallops were good, but it was pretty tasteless. I assume they specialize in cream sauces since those made up most of the pasta menu. The pizza was very good (lots of cheese!) and so was the caesar salad. We also ordered the garlic bread which, strangely, took the longest to make. It was pretty unnecessary since they give a lot of free bread. Overall the food was better that what you'd expect for small town Italian, but nothing special. Would probably come back. read more

Went expecting a nice Italian Bistro experience. At first it seemed like it would be nice, but we found we were repeatedly ignored by the host and the server. Host recommended a blue cheese striploin that was in a word, disgusting, Asked for medium rare, got blue rare. Blue cheese adornment was more like warm blue cheese sick slathering the meat and the plate. Mashed potatoes were very obviously out of a box, 2 florettes of brocolli (cold) and some diced carrots covered in honey. All for $38 and just crappy, crappy, crappy. Save your money and go to Bourbon Street Pizza for better pizza or Earl and Angelos if you want a steak. read more

My husband and I have been going to Paulo's for many years to have our special occasions together. We were quit disappointed at our meals last night. We each had 2 drinks the appetizer escargots was nothing fancy for the price, each of us ordered the 10oz beef strip loin and ceaser salad for $30.00 each. The amount of fat on both steaks were discusting there was at least 25% fat on each. The waiter stopped and asked how our dinner was...we proceeded to tell him we have been to Paulo's many times are were very disappointed in the quality of our food. His first response was ohh is it too fatty.. he didn't try to rectify our problem. We did eat what we could and paid full price of $115.00 and a minimal tip. Went for lunch a few months ago and it was a pretty good experience over all. I had the chicken curry pizza which was to die for. My only issue was that the portion was very small (even though it was lunch) and for what I got which was half a small pizza and a half plate of salad it was a bit on the pricy side. I did notice that a lot of the items on the menu were fairly pricy for what you get. It is good food but nothing out of this world. Still for Belleville it is one of the better places. read more
