Came here on a friend's recommendation and I didn't love the food. We were seated on a quaint waterfront patio and and setting was lovely. Unfortunately, the food didn't match the setting as it was just subpar. Maybe it's too much to expect Toronto quality Italian food in Trenton, but everything from the tomato sauce in the lasagna (way too acidic), ho hum aglio olio for the California fettucine and lack of simple garden salad (what kind of Italian place only serves Caesar salad or Greek salad?) just didn't do it for me. My fettucine was undercooked (not even close to being al dente), the chicken breast was dry and the overall seasoning was weak. Even with the addition of giant slivers of Parmaggiano didn't do much to elevate the dish. I would have sent the dish back if we weren't in a rush to finish our meal and get back on the road. The Margherita pizza was the best part of this dinner sadly. I'm not sure if we'll be back in Trenton again any time soon, but I will be looking for other options than Tomasso's. read more

It was a group of 24 for lunch, we had two great servers, the food was good and because of our group size we had the back room to ourselves which enabled us to do speeches, introduce each other etc. The only downfall was the bright sun coming in at the ladies by the window. Stayed overnight in Trenton and there aren't many dining choices beyond fast food. We were delighted to discover Tomasso's. Excellent service, lovely spot by the water, yummy food! I had the summer penne with asparagus, mushrooms, artichokes, and summer squash topped with goat cheese. HH enjoyed seafood manicotti. The bread they brought to the table was hot, fresh and so yummy spread with the accompanying garlic butter. Would def return given an opportunity. We also enjoyed a bottle of Sandbanks baco noir. Tomasso's is a nice little spot for Italian food in Quinte West (good stop for food on the way back from Belleville to Toronto). Ambience is about what you'd expect from a bigger more popular spot (akin to a Montana's) but still pretty great overall with a nice family restaurant feel. The service is great, with friendly attentive staff. The food was also good, with a lot of options to choose from I ended up getting the Milanese Trio as a main, which was cooked well with a nice sauce. Also got calamari as a starter which wasn't bad either, just not as light as I would have liked. Dessert was good just a bit heavy. It's a nice spot for Italian food for the whole family. read more

Tomasso's is one of the best Italian restaurants around. Good food, clean restaurant, clean washrooms, friendly wait staff, reasonable prices. We've eaten there several times and it's been good every time. Never had an issue with their food quality. One time we did have a waitress who seemed preoccupied and forgot to bring our drink order, but that seemed to be an isolated incident. We really like their Chicken Parmesan which is smothered in cheese...we thought it was a pizza the first time we ordered it. LOL Their patio is nice with a good view of the Trent river and boating traffic. They offer a take-out menu as well and we've picked it up several times and it's just as good as dine-in. We'll definitely be back many more times. read more

I didn't know what I was walking into when I found Tomasso's: the front was mostly just a wall without a way to see into the restaurant. Plus, I was traveling through Ontario and busy laughing to myself that I had found a Trenton in Canada. You see, I'm originally from New Jersey -- our capital city is Trenton and it is nothing like your Trenton. So we walked into Tomasso's blind and were surprised to find the place swarming with people for lunch. Luckily for my grumbling stomach, there was a table open, so we were promptly seated and a peppy sever took our order. I chose the Tomasso's club sandwich: grilled chicken breast, bacon, romaine, provolone and mayonnaise -- no tomato. It came with fries. This sounds like it could be boring. It wasn't. I don't know if it was the mayo or the chicken's marinade or the bacon or what... but this was one good sandwich. No wonder they named it after their restaurant even though it's "just" grilled chicken. I also hear the mushroom soup and chicken caesar wrap are excellent choices. I didn't try dessert, but the table next to me ordered some chocolate explosion thing, and it looked wonderful. Ugh. Probably the largest restaurant in Trenton and certainly among the best, though I haven't tried out a lot of them yet. Visited in September 2018 with a buddy while working at the nearby base, we had an excellent time. It's a bit of a Tardis, being a lot larger inside than it would appear from the street. There's seating for any and all occasions and a nice patio for al fresco in season. Food is excellent and plentiful, the beer and wine lists more than adequate and the prices very reasonable. On my second visit, I randomly ordered their one Italian beer. What a find! Nazionale, which comes in 750 ml bottles for just $7.50. The service we had was also first class, engaged and engaging. Whether you're looking for a fancy pizza, a mass of pasta or simply some tasty snacks, this should be your first port of call in Trenton. read more

I had supper this evening at Tomasso's. I was seated in the dining room in the front. The back windows overlook the frozen Trent River. Jamie, my server, started me off with hot bread drizzled with garlic butter. It was softy and yummy! Since I was in an Italian restaurant, I ordered Chicken Parmigiana. It was delicious and I'd get it again! They aren't kidding when they say it's "all baked with mozzarella"! The chicken was indeed lightly breaded. The desserts were showcased as I walked in and a piece of chocolate cake had caught my eye! Alas, I was too full to have it so regretfully passed on it. I noticed that the servers were professional. I'm a Toronto native that spends a few days in Trenton for work and the locals recommended me this restaurant. Located in the heart of "downtown" Trenton, Tomasso's faces the river which makes it an ideal date place (weather permitting). Alas, I played the role of awkward lone diner and hoped that its warm welcoming reputation would make me forget my own self pity. The service was friendly and fast. I was served warm garlic bread which was good but nothing to write home about. I dined on the house special spaghetti, which was also good, but again, nothing that blew me away. I felt attended to, never rushed, and enjoyed my evening. Overall, it was a good dining experience. No doubt Toronto dining has spoiled my palate, but I won't hold it against this restaurant. Five stars for location: in the heart of Trenton downtown and by the water, on the Trent River. Five stars for decor and ambiance: beautiful restaurant inside and outside. You will be as comfortable sitting indoor or outdoor However, if the weather is nice you can't beat the view on the patio by the water. Five stars for service: very friendly and attentive servers. Good wine menu. Three stars for food: the food is well prepared and presented, so you know they put their heart into it. However for me it lacks that oomph once you bite into it. For example, their tomato sauce has a sweetness to it , perhaps they add sugar or cinnamon (as Greeks do), which I personally don't like. Their chicken Marsala is also too sweet for my taste. I was just recently at Tomassoes for my birthday dinner and like always the food was amazing and the waiter fantastic! I don't understand why this place has such a crappy rating when the food is always beyond delicious! I usually always order from the take out side (Jim's Pizzeria) and we get the 2 pizza specials, or the Club House with Ceaser Salad, or occasionally the Chicken Tortellini. So going in I knew what I was ordering (and I also highly reccomend those to try) lol. I've been to the restaurant side a bunch of times and each time has been different. Sometimes good, sometimes great, and only once bad. It was summer and with their patio being open flies got in and it was super annoying. Food was still awesome tho! I've never gone in during the holiday hours however so I made sure to call ahead and make reservations. When we got there we were seated right away and drinks within a few mins of sitting down. We had a awesome waiter (with a even awesomer beard) and within 20 mins we had our food. Which I was honestly kind of shocked. It was super busy and even just regular crappy restaurants the wait time is 30 mins sometimes. The food was scrumptious as always and the Chicken Tortellini had massive chunks of chicken in it and the sauce amazing and the cheese, MY GOD THE CHEESE! If you love cheese this is the place you'll want to live lol. The cheese is divine and the amount they put on everything is just crazy! Crazy good! If you complain about their prices belive-you-me the amount you get in cheese you're getting your monies worth! The Ceaser Salad is the best I've ever had. A salad is a salad but the dressing they have is just OMG! Words cant even describe how good it is lol. Orgasmic is the word that comes to my mind TBH. I don't know what they do to make it so damn tasty but it's great and I highly suggest trying it and buying a jar of their dressing if you love it as much as I do so you can have some for at home. I always grab a jar whenever I go over to Trenton lol. The bread was freshly baked! Not microwaved or anything basic like most places. Theirs is always baked on site and you can tell. The garlic butter they make too and is just as orgasmic as the dressing! The Chicken Parm & Alfredo wasn't mine but I stole some bites and it was just as yummy as it looks! The alfredo sauce was super creamy and with the freshly sliced parmesan they let you load onto anything made it and everything even better. After we were done devouring our food I mentioned it was my bday dinner and he gave me some free cake lol. Which who doesn't love free cake lol. Like always the best Italian in the 613 IMO! The service just as good too. And I've lived and ate in Toronto and I'll always come back and highly reccomend this place. For some the prices might be a smidge steep BUT IT'S WORTH IT! This is a solid Italian restaurant. It's definitely not the best nor the worst Italian restaurant that I've been to. I came here for lunch with my family and we were greeted by a very cheerful waitress (Melanie). There was a huge selection of food to choose from (sandwiches, salads, pastas) which I appreciated. We ended up ordering two seafood fettuccine, fish and chip, penne diavolo and fishwich. The complimentary bread was delicious (because I love garlic bread). I was happy to see that they were not stingy with the seafood in the seafood fettuccine. However, the pasta could have been a little bit more al dente. This was the fifth time visiting, and it will be the last. Ate there yesterday. Each time the dish has been the Sea Food Fettuccini. Each time is was not as good as the time prior. Yesterday, the sauce seemed off, a little too thick. My father had the veal parmesan and the veal was very tough. My mom had the code, the coating was a little raw. Only the wife's meal turned out correct. We were seated in the back area with a view to the river. There were too many tables, making it difficult for Dad to get around. The noise level made it difficult to hear each other. Not too impressed. Should have gone to the restaurant up the street. read more

Trenton isn't known for it's dining so I was a bit skeptical when I finally went here with a friend. After living in the area for over a decade I can say this is as good as it gets in the area. Excellent meal! The decor is upscale casual with a water view... The waterfront of Trenton is a little shabby if you're expecting Vancouver-like vistas, but in the summer there are boats and such to look at.... Not bad. I got the chicken marsala ad it was done to perfection with an excellent blend of spice and sauce. I was most impressed by the accompanying vegetables which had everything from broccoli to a small turnip... An excellent variation on most restaurants bland side of one or two carrots. They were steamed, fresh and delicious. I had an espresso after dinner.. it was OK, not great though. Service was attentive and unobtrusive... This is probably considered one of the nicer restaurants in Trenton. I thought the food here was actually pretty good, and I was quite impressed the two times that I came here! The first time I came here with just a co-worker. After we were seated, it was a while before our waitress came to take our drink orders, so I wasn't too impressed with that. Afterwards everything was okay though. I ordered the seafood fettuccine and my co-worker ordered the chicken cacciatore. He also ordered foccacia to start, which we shared. When the foccacia came out we were both kind of surprised and amused because instead of a loaf of bread it looked like a cake covered in parmesan cheese. It was okay, but neither of us were blown away and we probably ate less than half of it just because it was sooo filling as a starter. My seafood fettuccine was fantastic though! There was actually soooo much seafood in it - shrimps, scallops, and crab meat, and the portion was really big and filling. My one complaint is that although the sauce was good, I thought it was maybe too rich, which made the dish feel a little too heavy overall. I still enjoyed it a lot though. The fettuccine noodles were also cooked well, al dente :) The second time I had the veal piccata which was on their seasonal menu. The dish came with mashed potatos and vegetables (mostly squash.) I enjoyed this dish as well, and thought the veal was tasty and was glad it was not too dry! Our server this time was a very friendly man, and he was great! I was impressed with this restaurant and enjoyed my experience here both times. It is located in "downtown" Trenton across the river, and I can imagine it would be really nice in the summer to eat here and see the view of the river. Lets be straight, Trenton Ontario is not a culinary center of excellence and Italian food is done by so many restaurants that it can be generically boring so we were delighted to find Tomasso's. The restaurant is large and tables nicely spaced so you are not sitting on someone's lap (like NYC or South Beach where we live). The service was prompt and friendly and while we waited for our meals we had an excellent loaf of fresh bread with garlic butter. My wife had the veal and rated it highly and I had the grouper which was perfectly done and lightly spiced with fresh veggies. If the weather is good you can sit outside by the Trent river. It was an indoor night for us. The bill was quite reasonable for what we had. read more

Great Italian restaurant! There aren't really any vegetarian options in the menu unless you get a salad, but you can ask for any of the entrees without meat. The staff are great and the food is amazing. read more

We heard great things about Tomasso's. Sadly food was mediocre at best and any flavour was completely overwhelmed by excessive use of garlic or onion on both appetizers and entree. The unoaked Chardonnay tasted more like port than wine. Overall experience was terribly disappointing. Won't be going back for a second chance. read more

I don't know what some of the other reviewers are talking about unless they had a rare bad experience. I would say I'm a regular patron along with my family for many years, going all the way back to the early years in the old restaurant as Jim's Pizza which still exists for take-out. I can only recall one time in all these years where I had a less than impressive meal. Between October and June we'll eat here at least twice a month. Chicken Tortellini is my go to dish. The Jim's Special Combination pizza is a classic and never disappoints. Prices are reasonable, the staff is attentive and the atmosphere is pleasant with a nice view of the river. Tomasso's ranks high among the areas top restaurants for quality, portion sizes overall satisfaction. It's a favourite choice of locals for a reason. read more
