Unfortunately, that has been my experience more times than I'd like to admit. The first shop I called gave me a bad feeling right away based on their customer service, but I still made an appointment. Afterward, I checked their Yelp reviews and was shocked by how many negative ones they had. That didn't sit right with me, so I decided to get a second quote. I already had a good idea of what was wrong with my car based on past experience. When I called this shop, the difference was immediate. They were professional, respectful, and didn't argue with me or try to upsell me on unnecessary repairs. I specifically looked for negative reviews--and there were none. I dropped my car off early that morning, and they gave me a clear time estimate for when it would be ready. They even sent photos of the issue. While I didn't fully understand what I was looking at, the fact that they were transparent enough to share images--knowing I could easily research them--told me everything I needed to know about their honesty. I don't remember the technician's name, but they took great care of my foreign car, Lexi, and I'm beyond relieved not to be driving around with grinding rotors anymore. Once my car was looked at, they did call back with all the details of what's going on even things that were noticed during the initial diagnostic which is $120 by the way and is applied to the bill if work is completed at the shop. Like everybody, I waited patiently in your thimble-sized office, navigated your comically undersized lot, and quietly appreciated the humor of your staff through the years. Thank you for that. So why today was I met by two new faces at the service desk with such a strikingly different attitude? I was surprised to hear oil changes require advance appointments, and you now prefer online. I mean, sure, I can do that. But when did that change? And why was a technician I've never seen before so condescending about it? He was downright hostile. Then the other guy chimed in and accused me of interrupting him. Honestly, gentlemen, I asked myself, "Is it worth it to schedule an appointment with you, if I know it's going to be you calling me to tell me any additional work that may need to be done? Do I trust the two of you?" The answer in that split-second moment was no. The arrogance, sarcasm, and belittling behavior by this pair made me realize I wouldn't trust these two to be the communicators of my mechanic shop. When I asked where the two old guys went, Kyle said with a smirk, "They went where all old guys go." Um, did they die? No, they retired, thankfully. Old guys from the desk, you are missed by your customers! Maybe it's the same great mechanics working behind closed bay doors at Hollenshade's, I don't know. Two guys I've never seen before told me things about how the business works that I've never heard before and treated me in a way no one at Hollenshades ever treated me before. Which leads me to the conclusion that this is not the same Hollenshade's I've trusted for over 20 years. I'm genuinely disappointed that I need to find a new mechanic. I honestly don't know what's happening at Hollenshade's anymore.

We had a rattle in the car, so we called him and he came out to replace the pulleys. As soon as we started the car, the rattle was still there so we called him to come back. He came back, was sure it was the alternator (replaced it, but nope!), was sure it was the compressor (replaced it, but nope!), then my spouse suggested it was coming from the engine and now all of a sudden we need a new engine for the timing chain. The kicker? Now our AC is making a hissing sound after we just got it fixed to work perfectly in June (over $2000). Obviously it's too complex for Greg to handle and now he's defensive and refusing to fix it without a new diagnostic fee.

The level of incompetence is astounding. The first time I got my car back, the oil cooler they…read morereplaced was leaking everywhere. The engine oil warning light came on. I made it clear in writing all of what needed to be done to the vehicle. I told the body shop (I was hit by a Geico underinsured motorist) that sent my car to this business that there's no rush and that I'm happy to pay whatever it takes to get the car right. I put in writing that the lug nuts needed to be torqued to spec. (101-103 ft. lbs.). Today I went to take 1 of the wheels they put on the car off. I used penetrating oil, tapped the hex socket (this is what you want to use, not a 12 point that will strip the lug corners) a breaker bar with a 3 ft. pipe extension (total of almost 5') and could not break the lugs free. And bent the breaker bar. I'm a 45 year old male with above average strength. Next I went to a neighbor's house, tapped the socket on to the lug nut and used a top of the line 1/2" Snap-on impact at 175 PSI. This produces somewhere between 1,200 and 1,600 ft. lbs. of nut-breaking torque. IT DIDN'T move a millimeter. There's about 4 people involved between this shop and the body shop and no one is capable of following manufacturer or customer instructions. Or verifying the shoddy work of others even after the "others" have done previous shoddy work. I have documentation of the instructions and receipts if anyone would like to see them before taking their car to this establishment. They've had multiple chances to do things correctly and have proven that they either are not capable, do not care or both. They have no more chances. Whatever manager/owner response that appears is a fools attempt to save face. I was a fool to allow my car to be serviced here. You are too if you read this and still go there. It's not worth risking your life. Do yourself a favor and choose another shop.
