Very cute retro drive-in / diner style restaurant. I came here with two friends and our tweens while visiting and figured this would be an easy place to find something to please everyone. There is ample parking outside and the inside is spacious with lots of tables, though none bigger than 4 seats. We sat at two tables next to each other and all found what we wanted on the menu. One notable mention - they have three kinds of fries! Fresh cut, waffle, and curly - a fact which delighted all of us. Overall the food was good, about what you would expect. The ice cream was the real star of the show, super creamy and flavorful with a lot of unique options available on the menu. Prices were reasonable and service was friendly, if a bit slow. Not sure if our server was new but there were a few small errors made when bringing our food out and cashing out. That being said, none of it was a huge deal or worth griping over. Stopped in last night to celebrate national ice cream day with family. This is a quaint little spot that has indoor seating as well as a drive-in and outdoor walk up service. Decor is a nice throwback to a much simpler time. My wife decided on having a chocolate malt lol I tried their peanut butter parfait. My mom and her partner went for the black raspberry Sunday. Cool 80's themed diner in Shelby. There are many old school items on the walls. Came here for lunch and would have to say this was a first that we ate from plastic wrap. Coming through town we wanted to check it out because it sounded interesting. They have typical fast food and some other stuff. Because it was hot this sounded like a good place to make a stop at. It has a large selection of ice cream. There's sundaes and all kinda of cool things. A good selection of slushies to choose from. It's $2 for a medium. They also have these slushie pops. It's about $1.50 each. These were pretty small but they were pretty cool to try. If you're feeling like a meal they also have hot food. There's mostly the usual stuff like burgers and fries for pretty good prices. If you're going through Shelby stop here. It has a long interesting history. This is the drive in to go to. Every year Shelby residents mark their calendars for when this 50's themed drive in opens. Great burgers in the comfortable / retro dining room, and awesome ice cream treats in the drive through line. I recommend the sauerkraut balls or the fried veggie basket. Any of the burgers will be well executed with fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection. Don't go looking for healthy, low-cal options. This is an ice-cream / drive in! use to live in Shelby, OH. ( Just a little background: I attended Whitney Elementary (from the middle of my 4th grade and then through to Shelby Junior High. We moved again before Shelby High.) . During my time in Shelby, they still hadn't gotten a Dominoes. So it was amazing when Spring came again and Paul's drive in opened again. My favorite items included: The Whippet: a very juicy, well done cheeseburger with bacon & MOPo. That's what I REALLY loved about this place. You could order with your own preference and get it that way and never have to worry that they screwed it up. The years I lived there and I think they only screwed up my Whippet was once and they replaced it for free. I must have eaten at least 100+ Whippets with MOPo. I frequently ate their Conie dogs to (their hotdog chili, Conie sauce was AMAZING and oke of a kind. It was a little sweet and dogs weren't steamed, just grilled on the flat-tops. So each dog was a charred and sometimes over-charred if requested and they weren't packed. And I ate my dogs under the MOP too. Amazing milkshakes and sundeas as well. If I end up moving back to the state, I might have to take my family back on a weekend excursion. Oh and the "MOPo" stands for Mustard, Onion and Pickle only. Oh and I NEVER had to remind the servers that "yes I want the bacon and cheese too." That seems to be something that comes with the burger restaurants of "today or the future." Give them a try. Oh and the chocolate and marshmallow milkshake is pretty special too. read more

If you're in Shelby and you have a craving for ice cream you wont find another place like this. I've been told by so many people from Ashland and Mansfield about this spot in Shelby so apparently it has a reputation for standing out from the others. We decided to check it out finally on one of the warmer days of this weird winter-spring thing we've been having in 2016, and even though it was a little harder to find, being hidden between alleys and close by KFC, we found it and checked out the menu. Now dont come here expecting a Cold Stone Creamery experience with insane combinations, but do come here expecting good service and quality ice cream. Prices are on the higher side for a one scoop with a cone but the flavor was different, it was caramel crunch so it was great. Recommend if you're wanting an ice cream date or something lame like that. read more

Paul's has been in business longer than I've been alive. With that said, the savory foods and ice cream alike are delicious. Although you won't find anything that you wouldn't expect at an America establishment, don't let that stop you from checking this hometown favorite out! Pal's has been a favorite little place in Shelby, Ohio for years. Tonight will probably be our last time. I LOVE their coney sauce! I've even stopped by and purchased a pint of it to take on camping trips. BUT ... I detest their hotdogs I believe they put them in the steamer pam first thing in the morning and leave them in there ALL day. Yuck! They literally have a greenish ring in them. I asked for a fresh hotdog that hadn't been steamed, coney sauce & no onions. The waiter said no problem. They grilled my hotdog, after they took it out of the steamer pan & it had onions on it. I took the onions off , took one bite and there was the green ring. The waiter asked me if it wasn't up to par? I said no. I'd like a fresh hotdog that hadn't been steamed. It took MUCH longer than it should have to get my new order. The bun was grilled and maybe the hotdog but there it was after the first bite ..... the GREEN ring! Must be the poorest quality of hotdog made? Plus it's the scrawny-ist hotdog. We ordered our curly fries extra crispy...... they were barely warm and NOT crispy at all! I really like chicken rivel soup. Omgosh. This was not even close to being rivels! It was great big clumps (close to golf ball size) of the tasteless rivel dough. Love their ice cream & will probably stop buy to buy coney sauce & ice cream, but farewell Paul's for dinner. read more

We stopped in for ice cream while visiting the area and had a good time. My husband ordered a Reese's Pieces Parfait, and I ordered a homemade chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich. We were able to look through old yearbooks from the local highschool while we waited, which was really fun. They were pretty busy, but everyone was helpful and sweet. Growing up in Shelby, everyone went to Paul's because, frankly, there really wasn't much choice. So, I did not know what to expect when I met an old friend for lunch during a trip home as I had not been to Paul's since the late 80s! I'm happy to report -- surprisingly yummy! This is diner food done well. And who would have thought they would advertise local beef suppliers. I had the Whippet burger (a bacon cheeseburger, not actual Whippets) and hand cut fries (for you out of towers, the school nickname is Whippets). All well done. Topped it all off with a banana milkshake made with real bananas. Like I said, diner food, not health food. Good service and dirt cheap prices. Definitely worth a stop, and great for kids. read more

Great place hires local highschool students and has excellent service. I recommend this place for people feeling nostalgic to enter this 50s themed diner. If you are looking for a casual restaurant to get some good old-fashioned, made-to-order drive-in food, this is the place to go in North Central Ohio! The restaurant is closed from November to February :( but, like the other poster stated- everyone in town anxiously waits for re-opening! I've never had a bad item on their menu.
