Our experience with Paul's Pastry for our wedding cakes was unsatisfactory. Following a week-long period to address our concerns, we have yet to receive a response. While the cakes tasted excellent, the wedding cake's noticeable lean was a concern for our florist and drew attention from our guests, resulting in an unpleasant experience. Furthermore, we felt our wedding did not receive the necessary prioritization during the planning process, as Paul's Pastry frequently took several days or weeks to respond to our inquiries regarding our wedding or invoice payment. I even received a response from Tiffany, their wedding cake specialist, stating 'I saw your email and forgot to respond' when I had to follow up a week later. I was very understanding and patient initially, but as the wedding date approached, I felt that a quicker response time was warranted. I would email and wait a week, then have to call, and sometimes reach Tiffany, while other times someone would have to leave a note saying I called, and it would take days or more to get a response. Overall, their customer service and professionalism as a wedding vendor were severely lacking, and I want to raise awareness about our experience with Paul's Pastry in Picayune. read more

Seriously, who doesn't love a king cake?! I have spent the last six years educating Utah on the king cake and Paul's has never failed me. I will call at the last day to get my shipment delivered and they do it. My dad has always shipped us mixed berry and cream cheese but this year I bought a strawberry and cream cheese and a blueberry and cream cheese and they were fantastic. Whenever I'm in Picayune around Carnival time I always stop in to Paul's for a King Cake. Their cream cheese King Cake has more cream cheese than any other King Cake I have ever had, which is something New Orleans bakeries should learn from as they usually skimp on it. The different flavors Paul's offers are also a nice variety from the flavors at N.O. bakeries, even though I am not into a S'Mores or Coconut flavored King Cake. We ordered overnight delivery to Michigan. Everything arrived on time which is the reason for the two stars. The cake was so dry; all 13 of us never finished the slice. We did everything the instructions stated and it was not edible. There was also no baby in the pastry at all. I contacted the company and sent them photos. Not sure how exactly they could have measured how dry this cake was from a photo. I definitely would not have gone through contacting the company if it wasn't true. The company stated this was how the cake was and up to their standards. So if you are looking for a less than moist cake with no baby; then this is your place to order. read more

I have been ordering a King Cake every year for over ten years to be shipped to my son in New York. Until this year he has very much enjoyed having a taste of Mardi Gras since he is so far away. The cake arrived a day earlier than what shipping had indicated and that was okay. However the cake itself appeared to be smaller and the icing was nothing more than powdered sugar that had to be mixed and poured on the cake. Previous years the icing came separately packaged to ice the cake which is understandable but to just send dry powdered sugar is not acceptable. No where did I see that this was said to be the new policy for shipping the cake. I cannot waste $70+ to ship a plain cake to my son and expect him to mix powdered sugar to ice the cake. I hate that what had become a little tradition was so disappointing. Unless I can find a bakery capable of shipping a cake that is good and doesn't require mixing the icing ingredients then the tradition has died. Sad that Paul's Pastry decided to change their product resulting in an inferior version of what they were known for. read more

This little hole-in-the-wall pastry shop is notorious for having excellent king cakes. I love the cream cheese variety that they serve here. Be careful when you're eating it though because there is a plastic baby that is lodged inside of the cake and the tradition goes the person that finds the baby has to buy the next king cake and it's good luck.
