I ordered pancakes and eggs and was a little disappointed. The eggs were fine, but the pancakes were mediocre. They were not fluffy and extremely porous. The syrup didn't seem to stick to the pancakes which I thought was weird. The service was ok, we were given tapatio when we asked for it and the employees were polite. The place was clean, was just not impressed by the breakfast. I may go there again to check out some of the greek style food they offer, but I'm not expecting to being blown away. Of course it would be awesome if I was. IHOP is still my go-to for breakfast. read more

The place to go for breakfast!!! I found this place when I didn't have time to make breakfast before heading to a meeting one morning. I really dislike the eggs (?) in the fast food breakfasts, so I decided to try stopping at Paul's Place. What a well kept secret this gem is! Their breakfast burrito is amazing. Fresh eggs, choice of meats ( I chose to go without the potatoes in the burrito and took their home fries instead) all wrapped in a big burrito. Woman who runs the joint is rude and unhygienic with food. I asked if they could make my bacon crispy and she grabbed my plate, turned around, and right in front of me pulled the fatty parts off my bacon, put what was left of 2 strips instead of 4 back on my plate and handed it back to me. Think of an a bowling alley then upgraded Denny's food and you get PAULS PLACE. I will not say you should go here if your looking for the greatest ingredients known to man. This is one of my favorite restaurants. My family has been going to Paul's for years. The food is delicious. A huge menu with great variety and particularly delicious Greek cuisine. My favorite is their Greek salad and their gyros and they also make a delicious pastrami sandwich. We're always greeted by the same friendly and hard working employees. The prices are very reasonable,the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is a quaint mom and pop diner that makes you feel nostalgia for simpler times. Would highly recommend! read more

Today the young lady at the register messed up my order. I ordered 2 combos, but she gave me 3 and charged me for it. Not knowing she charged me for it, and before giving me my food, I asked for a receipt. While she handed me my change she told me with an attitude to wait until she gets my food in order - so I waited. She gave me my order, and I told her nicely that I didn't order 3 combos. She gave me an attitude and argued that I did. She got her boss and told her that I ordered 3 combos, but now I'm requesting 2. I interrupted and said I ordered 2. She looked at me with an obvious angry face and loudly said I ordered 3. I couldn't believe her boss was there and didn't say a thing about the way she was acting. They refunded me for 1 combo, and I requested my receipt (again). At first she didn't want to give it to me. She asked her boss that she was going to give me a receipt. I got my receipt, did the math, while she was pissed off and looking over my shoulder, and then left. It's always the same woman I have trouble with when I come here. There's been numerous times they've messed up my order, and I'm just DONE. I only came here because they had a drive thru, but I rather go down the street to Pit Stop. Paul's Place has always been a dump since I was a kid. Their food is overpriced and it's not worth it to me. I've even witnessed their employees argue about another employee's mistake. This place is disgusting. I'm not sure how they pass a food inspection. As I am waiting to get my food at the drive through window, they had pulled up the rubber mats in their kitchen to sweep. As they are making our food others are sweeping around the food preparers. It looked like they hadn't swept up their floor in weeks. Poor sanitary and food prep practices. Every time we go to California, we always have to stop by Paul's Place. Our usual location is in Buena Park, which we have been going to for years and always left satisfied. This time, we were in Oceanside and we're happy to know there was a Paul's Place in the area. Once we went in to order, It looked run down, tired, and in need of a renovation. Just downright depressing. Bugs flying around, no music playing, depressing. Food quality was equally as depressing. My bf ordered a burger with onion rings. The burger was really good, but the onion rings were just okay. I ordered my usual French toast and it was terrible. First, it took an extra 5 minutes after my bf got his burger to get my French toast. Literally tasted like nothing. Super bland and blah. I mean, how the hell do you take 10 minutes to fry up some damn Egg Bread? All this cost us almost $20. Next time we are in Oceanside, we will just take the long drive up to Buena Park if we decide to eat at Paul's Place. read more

This place cracks me up. So, first time here I ordered a chicken gyro combo. Delicious! Tender chicken pieces, super soft pita and awesome fries. Tzaziki was good but needed more cucumber. I would not have expected this to be as good judging a book by its cover. Firstly, the place is a dump. Hideous wallpaper and seating and the faded unappetizing food pics on the wall do not help to whet one's appetite. Secondly, and most oddly was the number of employees behind the counter. I thought I was in Chipotle. 5 women not doing much of anything and one guy on the line cooking everything and mopping floors, the only one working his ass off. What on earth are they all doing here? The women are having a social gathering by the drive they window. It's not very busy. One person through the drive thru every 5 mins and eight patrons in the restaurant. The whole restaurant heard some guy trying to decide what Shake to order the speaker is so loud. Lol! I asked for some vinegar for my fries and they charged 45c. I guess they have to find some way to pay all those wages. My gyro was amazing so I'll be back- if nothing else to watch this oddity in restaurant operation. Still scratching my head. This is another one of those great places that isn't always crowded so I don't want to spoil my trips here by exposing it to more mouth breathers. Had the pastrami at about 7 pm on a week night. The bun was a bit hard, and the pastrami dry. Really disappointed. I'd wanted that sandwich for a few weeks and finally gave in to the craving only to be disappointed. I've eaten at the Pauls in Buena Park and the food was always very good. The last 2 weeks we have visited Paul's Place 3 times. Usually their food is good and we really enjoy it. Last night our bill was $41. When I asked the cashier for an extra ranch dressing she said "it'll be .45 cents". I was a little taken aback, I just spent $41 and you are going to charge me .45 cents for an extra ranch?!! I thought that was poor customer service and doesn't make this customer feel appreciated or valued for what they already spent. I think I would have walked out of there wanting to come back again sooner if she had made me feel differently. read more

Cold burgers - cheese was not even melted. Chewy fried zucchini. Nothing like my previous visits. Staff was rude and demeaning when asked to remake it. Smirky and had an agitated tone with both me and the cooks, because of this I will not be returning. Waited a long time for my food to be made then a long time behind someone waiting for their food to be made to return my food. She claimed I had been there hours ago, then an hour when she looked at the receipt. Took me 5 minutes to drive home with the food. I was introduced to Paul's Place about 5 years ago by a family member who described it as "a whole in the wall type of burger joint with great grub". His description of Paul's was right on the money! Paul's is VERY old school and borderline run-down looking but the food is excellent. It reminds me of the old mom & pop diners that were around when I was coming up. I've sampled about 70% of the menu at Paul's but my favorites are the double bacon avocado cheeseburger and the pastrami sandwich. The double bacon avocado cheeseburger is stacked with two juicy patties, thick slices of cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, fresh onion, tomatoes, crisp lettuce, and so much avocado that it shoots out the sides every time you take a bite. The pastrami sandwich comes on a fresh roll, stuffed full of piping hot shaved pastrami, fresh pickles, and just the right amount of yellow mustard. They stuff so much pastrami in this sandwich that they have to double wrap it just to keep it from bursting out of it's wrapping. I highly recommend that you wash this down with an order of chili cheese fries and a cherry pepsi....but that's just me. I have to agree with my fellow yelpers that commented on the less than appealing decor, faded paint, and beat down menu board. However, last time I checked I wasn't eating the menu board. read more

I was a good customer at Paul's, I really enjoyed the food there, but unfortunately I will not be going back. I ordered there Greek Chicken Dinner on Sunday, and after waiting in line for over 20 minutes got my food and went home. I took one bite of the Chicken and it was bad. After waiting all that time in line I did not feel like driving back and waiting again, so I called. A nice lady answered the phone and apologized, I said that I would come back on Tuesday to get a replacement and she said that would be fine and took my name. I trusted that the chicken would be fine and that Sunday was an anomaly. Well I went back got in line and ordered a replacement Greek Chicken Dinner. The So called manager came out with an attitude and did not believe me. She scolded me for not saving the plate and bringing it back, She said if I got bad Chicken why did I order it again. as someone who regularly eats out, i must say, pauls place is simply a breathe of fresh air. the food is always fresh, the service always friendly, the atmosphere uplifting. not once have i had a bad meal there. when it comes to quick and easy takeout, pauls place has no equal in the tri-city area. my favorites are the gyro and the bacon avocado cheeseburger. anytime of the day, rest assured you will be fully satisfied for hours. i love this place. read more

I've been getting burgers and other items here for several years and never had a bad experience. I've never eaten breakfast here, but I don't consider it a breakfast type of eatery. The double cheeseburgers are great with or without bacon or avocado. The orders of fries are large enough that my wife and I split one. Their menu is large and quite varied and I'm sure that there are instances where the results for an individual's order may be less than perfect but over all I think the place is very good. I discount any negative comments about the decor. It's not a dump and it's not filthy, perhaps occasionally a little unkempt. After all it's just a local independent fast food joint. Cops like so it must have something going for it. I chat with the Greek owner and she has always been nice and professional with me, but being the owner of a small business myself I can appreciate her ability to occasionally deal with some customers in a negative manner usually in a situation that deserves such a reaction. I certainly agree with the fact the the customer is NOT always right and there are some that are not welcome back. In todays economy profit is difficult and sometimes fleeting. I don't feel the prices at Paul's Place are out of line with their competition. I get what I pay for but if you're looking for a $.99 hamburger then this is not the place for you. I think the quality of their ingredients and preparation is above average. Keeping quality high and expenses in line is difficult in running any small business and I think Paul's Place does a decent job with this task. Give it a try and I think you will be back. read more
