What a cute cafe to do work or catch up with a friend. They have free wifi and a huge selection of drinks, pastries, acai bowls, and sandwiches. I went on a Sunday afternoon and it was packed. We were interested in the blue and pink lattes but were skeptical of how they would taste and the lady working there made us a sample of the pink latte. She said it's made with beetroot which is why it's pink. It was actually pretty good so we ordered that with an espresso shot. I think she also said the blue latte is blue because it has butterfly pea in it. I went back the next day to do some work and was craving an acai bowl. It was so hard to choose one but I ended up getting the very berry bowl - so refreshing and exactly what I was looking for. The decor is Moroccan inspired with trinkets and such on the walls, an interesting hanging light fixture, and mosaic tiled tables. The food comes out on rustic trays. I stumbled upon this cafe one day when my friend and I were looking for a place to sit and chat. We each ordered a muffin and we were sold on the place. The muffins are so scrumptious and they have a wide variety of them too. Including today's visit, I've tried the lemon poppy, marbled, banana nut and blueberry muffins. They also have double chocolate, orange cranberry and more. They also have an array of scones and pastries for those who are not into muffins. I have yet to try their smoothies or açaí bowls but they all sound delicious. I would also like to try one if their sandwiches. The cafe is very homey with a lot of wooden decor. They even have a hanging chair (the ones who look like hanging half spheres) in the corner. I love the sandwiches here especially the turkey cheddar and the Moroccan merguez ! The ingredients are fresh, there are plenty of toppings and all of the flavors taste so good together. I love how, even after they've expanded, half a sandwich is still ~$5 and a full is ~$9 ! In addition to the sandwiches I've also had their smoothies and they're so tasty and not made with added sugars and the same quality ingredients as is in their sandwiches and salads ! Beautiful açaí bowls. The matcha açaí bowl was refreshing and delicious, and the small was a perfect size for me! I also got an iced chai and usually chai lattes are too sweet for me but this one was perfect. It was light and flavorful and probably the best part of the experience! I was blown away! My hands down favorite spot for acai bowls! I've been coming here for a few years, and the smoothie bowls here are a cut above the rest -- for one, the portions are bigger (I usually order the small, which will fill me up for a few hours), the flavor and topping combinations are more inventive, and the service is insanely fast. I don't understand how they make these beautiful bowls so quickly -- Juice Gen and Juice Press need to take some notes. My favorite coffee shop in the Lower East Side and possibly all of New York. It's a great place to stop in for a lazy weekend breakfast or grab and go on the way to work. Lately, I've been digging their Very Berry acai bowls and cold brew coffee, and every pastry I've tried was a hit. I'm especially a fan of the almond croissants, and you can choose mini or regular size. Most recently, I've tried the green acai bowl with cucumbers and lavender, and they knocked it out of the park. Pause has a great atmosphere too. They use adorable bowls for the acai bowls and have cute furniture inside and outside. My sisters and I caught the World Cup final there a few weeks ago -- so cool that they had it set up on a projector, and the place was packed with fans enjoying the game over coffee and breakfast. read more

Rightfully so, since everything we tried was so delicious. They had a vast variety of pastries, food and baked goods to choose from. We decided on the gluten free walnut brownie...just incredible. I was very tempted to take one on the road with me but didn't so it gave me a reason to go back. We also got the banana nut muffin which had actual bananas in it and it was so light and fluffy. Safe to say we ate every single bite of both treats. I really liked that it wasn't overly sweet either. I ordered the flat white with almond milk so it was lightly sweet just the way I like it. Perfect spot to work from, or even grab coffee on the go. On top of the great vibes and quality of the items we ordered, the service was outstanding. I had breakfast here yesterday and have fallen in love with this place. If I lived closer, I would definitely be a regular. Served with harissa, the perfect way to start the day. My friend had the same with the almond croissant that she loved. I'm a chef and my friend's Mom is a French chef so we have discerning palates and this place met our high expectations. It also has a great local vibe. I also had the purple detox juice - beet, ginger, apple and some other good stuff - very balanced they didn't go crazy with the ginger like some like to do. Also, very good drip coffee. Only seats about 10, so if you are in the area, I would suggest take out during rush hour times. Although at 10 in the morning, we only had to wait about 5 minutes to get a table. I visited Pause Café when I was in the Alphabet City area last weekend. I was looking for something green and clean and I definitely found the right place to go. The café itself is really hip and it was fairly crowded mid-morning on a Friday. It seemed like a lot of locals frequent the spot because when I walked in it seemed super obvious that I was a noob. The cashier was really friendly and patient when I was figuring out what to order. I was picking up food for my friend and I so I ended up ordering the Superfood Chia smoothie, the Panache smoothie, two Flu Shots, and one Casablanca sandwich to share. The food and smoothies all came out relatively quickly so I didn't end up waiting long at all. I was really happy with everything we ended up getting once I got home. The smoothies were fresh and delicious, and I also really enjoyed the Flu Shots. The sandwich was a good size and I liked how the goat cheese complimented the veggies. The food is good. The customer service is not good. I ordered food delivery but they delivered less than what I ordered, without any utensils or napkins. When I called about the missing sandwich, the guy, who I will not name here, said they are sorry but they won't deliver the missing sandwich unless I order again. What a horrible service! Pause-café not only offers a great experience for their customers, but they are a great asset to our LES community. More businesses should follow this model of making sure the underserved are taken care of--when our government is clearly incapable of that. I will definitely be tipping extra extra from here on out, knowing that my tip is going toward a kindhearted staff. One thing that stood out to me about our whole experience was how attentive each member of the staff was. Greeting EVERYONE that walked through the door. There are regulars here because the staff takes the time to remember each face that walks in the door - even asking the names of people they recognize so that they can remember it along with their orders. SAMMIES WE HAD (half- $5/full - $9): - BBQ Chicken Sandwich: light on the BBQ, which is GREAT because sometimes it can be overpowering. The arugula is a nice touch. - Chicken Avo: I mean, come on. I've come here a few times to hang out, and I really like the atmosphere here. It's warm, inviting, and cozy. Lots of people break out their laptops and work here as they nosh on healthy food and drinks. I've had their turmeric latte and charcoal latte and both were tasty. You can choose between regular milk, almond milk, or oat milk. We came on a Saturday morning and there was a short line, but it moves quickly so don't worry. They are very efficient but there is limited seating. They don't have a bench outside so if the weather is nice that's works fine. That's where we sat and ate our food. This would be my kind of healthy breakfast. My boyfriend and I ordered a small very berry acai bowl, a full chicken avocado sandwich and a large smoothie called pick me up. This was the perfect amount for us to share we left full and satisfied. Everything was made fresh and clean. The sandwich was the best part of the meal, avocados and chicken was so yummy! This is an affordable healthy food option. The acai bowl was $8 for a small, which is average or compare to some place cheaper. They give me a very generous amount of toppings. The large smoothie was $7 and the full sandwiches was $9. So the most expensive was the sandwich. 5 stars is not good enough for these guys. Family style run independent business that grew from a tiny little cafe next door to what is now. This is my # 1 daytime nutrition stop. Everything I have eaten there is healthy, fresh, good for me and tastes good into the bargain. The smoothies are the best value in town starting at approximately $5. if you don't go for anything else go for the price or pay $10 for a smoothie somewhere else. They make their own soups, which I love, I recommend the Herrrera. You can smell them cooking or preparing things and it gets your taste buds in overdrive. You also get points for customer loyalty and they add up quick, before you know it you'll be having free smoothies plus. Everything is served with Love at this Cafe and the guys and girls that run and staff it are very humble, very patient, fair, will take care of you and if you go often enough will remember your name. It's hard to put a price on that kind of service these days. It's decked out like a Morrocan kitchen Family style with comfortable cushions and couch seating against the wall to support your back and make your experience enjoyable. They also play nice Deep House or Morrocan Music or Jazz to soothe that Hangover so you can still have a convo or just a sanctuary to escape and rejuvenate. I recommend it for Mom, Dad, Date, Friends, etc. The daylight comes through the glass windows. The temperature is comfortable inside, they show the World Cup on a big screen for free into the Bargain, host a Moroccan style Family Dinner Fridays I believe and if you really fancy yourself, you can play 5 a side Soccer with them after work on designated weekdays or weekends in the warm weather. The reason Laptops ate confined to one community table is because it would be impossible to stay in business if you are taking up valuable real estate with your mobile free office and overstaying your eating time so they can't sell anymore food to other people that would really like to sit and eat. Savvy Lower EastSiders and NYers that may or may not have worked in the Hospitality industry know this. Space is premium in this town. Good food, Good conversation, clean your table, recycle, give it up to the next person, just like you would in your own home, you know the drill. This etiquette helps them to stay in business and provide us with this amazing experience. Bathrooms are always clean, smell fresh and have those homely touches so we can all keep it that way.
