Ms. Tina and Paw Paw were extremely friendly and made all of us feel right at home. These have got to be the best wings I have ever had. I was in Round Top for the antique show and stopped to eat here 3 times. The potato salad was delicious and home made. The place was not very busy and we got our food in a very timely manner. Good ole' Paw Paw's ~ This place is a gem. Situated in a large open venue, kind of like a modern barn is this well lit BBQ restaurant. It's kind of like 5 Guy's meets your local bar. There's a jukebox, poker games going on, and a pool table too. It's an interesting mashup of everything to say the least. This restaurant honors service members and offers them all permanent markers to sign their walls. Which is awesome! I had a burger and my assistant had the wings-- extra wet, and nothing disappointed! The food was incredible. A flame broiled burger, and tasty wings after a long day's work were beyond welcomed. Not to mention their burger dressing situation which is a buffet of toppings for the discerning customer (me) who loves obscene amounts of mayo and onion. Paw Paw came over after our meal, and like a true gentleman asked how it was, and offered us a taste of his famous pulled pork-- which only made me upset I'd ordered the burger (which was insanely good-- but man was the pork incredible!!). Great Burgers, Texas Barbecue, and Café favorites. We were traveling home from a visit to our youngest daughter in Houston, and my wife wanted comfort food. I opened Yelp and found PawPaw's just a few miles ahead, so we rerouted and stopped. Were we glad we did. The place is decorated with Firetruck this and that, toys, ride-ons, Signs, etc. The walls were also signed everywhere by Military Veterans stating Name, Branch Rank, Theatre of service, Unit numbers, etc. Quite a hoot. We were told to seat ourselves and that all the Que was already gone, 86ed for the day. We checked out the menu, lots of great stuff to be had. We shared some Double Fried Crunchy Chicken Wings as an appetizer. They were better than Wingstop or Buffalo Wild Wings by far. I wished I had just ordered wings that is until my Burger and Fries arrived. I opted to ad Grilled Onions to my Pepper Jack Cheeseburger. They have a self-service Burger fixings Bar and I had the best burger in years; literally, years. The help was polite, charming and very friendly folks. I'm not sure what happened to this place because we came due to the massive number of reviews saying this place was amazing. It's not and I would not recommend it. We went on a Saturday during lunchtime. Make the trip at your own risk. Visited during Antique show. Advertised there is BBQ but there's minimum BBQ on menu except for loaded fries with pulled pork. Cheese steak fries were missing onions and peppers. If you're goin' to Round Top; this place is a must. We stopped on our way out from doing a spontaneous Sunday trip just to get out of the house. Now, if I could stereotype your roadside Texas diner..this is it. The couple that owns the place are extremely nice with a bit of wit and sarcasm, and a simple menu. My husband "made" his dinner creation of Philly Cheesesteak Sweet Potatoe Fries, we shared Fried Green Tomatoes with house sauce (deliciousness!!!!) as well as the gumbo (also amazing! It was the special of the day.), and I got pulled pork nachos. All so very delicious. Eat local, eat here. :) read more

Every single table was dirty. It just felt nasty in there. But, since it was a Monday night and nothing else was open, we decided to give it a try. Luckily, I had some antibacterial wipes in the car. There was only one person both serving and cooking and acting as cashier. He was a nice enough fella, but did not bring us menus. Instead, he just asked what we wanted. He told us they had a pork sandwich, a cheesesteak sandwich, and hamburgers, and listed a few other side items. There was junk stacked everywhere outside, and inside wasn't much better. There was a buffet table that doesn't look like it's being used and has stuff stacked all in it and on it. There's just junk and dust everywhere. The cheesesteak wasn't horrible by any means, and the fries were okay. The pulled pork sandwich wasn't very good. I did like the bun. The potato salad was definitely just from the store and not homemade. I read a review that said it was homemade, so they must've changed that. I am blown away by the number of great reviews. I'm wondering if there's different owners, but we asked the man how long they've been there and he said six years. Everything was served with disposable plasticware and plates. The ladies room had a sign on it that said the men's room was located outside. However, there was a urinal inside the ladies room. Very good country bar and grill to hang out at. A lot of locals there and friendly atmosphere. If you would like a stop to have a couple of cold beers it's very nice and pleasant. The food was decent, not really to write home about but it was a good meal. I will stop here for the atmosphere and the laid-back style but the food was not that impressive. They don't have that sandwich on the menu, but they do have a roast beef sandwich. They also have pulled pork sandwiches. So thats why I'm confused about why they can't just add some pulled pork, add 3 bucks to the meal and give me the same sandwich I came here for. Service is non existent. Don't be in a hurry if you come for a meal. And you may or may not get BBQ when you come depending on which way the wind is blowing. Do not waste your time by stopping at this restaurant. We waited 50 minutes to get our food which ended up being less than average. The brisket was extremely dry and the pulled pork had absolutely no flavor. The potato salad and coleslaw were store bought - not even homemade! My Husband and I travel a lot. We try to follow our instincts and we should have here. We came into Round Top from the direction where this was the first restaurant, don't make the same mistake. There are some great ones on into town. The parking lot was full with locals vehicles, normally that's a good sign. After stepping inside we found out they were having a card game tournament. So we went to sit outside. It was like going to your Aunt's that doesn't keep house. We had to move an ashtray of the table. (Why didn't we run?, still don't know. I had read good reviews, so I was trying to convince myself it will be worth it if the food is good. NOPE! The pulled pork was acceptable, but hubby played it safe and ordered a hamburger. He said it was the worst thing he'd ever eaten. Tasted like the patty had been smoked, cooled and reheated to serve! The brisket was tender, with a good smoke ring, the ribs were tender but not overcooked. I had jalapeno sausage, good smoky flavor with a nice element of jalapeno heat. Their house made sauce was tangy with a mustard note. Potato salad tasted home made as well. Service was friendly and helpful, if not the fastest. We came across paw paws by accident on our way home to Austin from Houston and what a great find we stumbled across. We met some of the nicest people ever and some good homemade food. The first time we went was about a year ago and we just loved it. The second time we went through a different route but we went 30 minutes out of our way just to stop by and see them again. When we arrived the second time, we got there a little late and the kitchen was closed... no big deal we know it was late so we had a about 3 beers there and everyone there, owner, cashier, cook, client, everyone kept us company and had a drink with us. We where just about to leave and we mentioned we where hungry and they went out of their way with a closed kitchen to make us a quick pulled pork sandwich so we wouldn't leave home on an empty stomach. How sweet and the food was on point. The sauce was soooooo good. What's even more amazing is what they give back to the veterans, they constantly have raffles and have benefit events to help these warriors. I can go on and on about how great they are. Been wanting to check this place out for a while! Started with fried green tomatoes (and a bottle of delicious wine!), and then had the grilled catfish, bacon mac and cheese, green beans, and salad.
