This was a pleasant find a little off I-10 and after eating I discovered that Texas 71 provided a nice angled return to I-10 going east. It's 4 lanes, not a lot of traffic and limited access as well. Nice low stress return to I-10 after a tasty lunch. The building obviously used to be a home and the inside just further confirms it. Lots of comfortable seating throughout. Parking is all around the building and much of it is in shade from several large trees on the property. It was lunchtime busy when we arrived but we got seated quickly and the service never faltered. The pimento cheese and sausage appetizer was so good. Picky eater got 2 plain chopped brisket tacos and enjoyed them. I got the brisket plate and was surprised to find sausage on there too. The slaw and beans for sides were good choices. Both were very tasty and definitely all their own recipe. While cruising back from a day trip nearby my partner and I got really hungry and of course was in the mood for some barbecue. We ran into a couple of signs on our way down the highway and The Back Porch BBQ peaked our interest so we stopped in. Parking and location was super easy to get to and navigate. This is a small town BBQ spot so I for sure was impressed with how many folks were inside dining and how many cars the lot could hold. It was a Saturday afternoon and everyone had tables full of delicious barbecue that we passed in front of as we got sat by the friendly staff. We loved the moist brisket sandwich, fall off the bone pork ribs, plus Later on we ordered 1lb of their jalapeno cheddar sausage to go and had it the very next day while back at home in Austin. The sausage was so juicy and succulent that we didn't regret having leftovers for even another meal - morning breakfast with egg - the next day. We have been wanting to try this barbecue place in La Grange for quite a while, so the last time we were in town, we went there for a late lunch. We were honestly a little disappointed because the food was average at best. It looked good and the portions were very generous, but most of the food was just not seasoned enough. The only thing we tasted that we said "this is really good" was the fried okra. It really was good. I got the sausage plate and the sausage and side salad were good, but not great. The sausage definitely needed to be topped with sauce, which was a little too runny for my taste. My friend got the pulled pork plate, potato salad, okra and added one rib on the side. Pretty much had the same reaction I did, just a little too bland. Especially when you're paying barbecue joint prices! Our waitress was very friendly but it seemed like the others were not. When they started bringing in the signs and turning off the TVs we thought maybe they had closed at 2 o'clock and that we needed to hurry. But when we asked they said that they close at 3 o'clock and I just can't help but wonder why they would not stay open for Saturday night! The area inside is nice and they have a small area outside also. By 2:45, the floors were swept, the TVs were off and you could tell these people were ready to leave. An older couple had come in at 2:40 and we could not believe that they told them that they were closed and they would have to leave. I've never been to a restaurant that wouldn't serve you before closing time or at least offer to fix your food to go. I felt bad for them. The service was superior plus and the entrees outstanding. I had the Porch Mix sandwich which consisted of chopped up sausage, brisket, and pulled pork. Sounds odd, but it worked worked really well. The mild smoke came through nicely and the bun that it was served on was sweet and very soft. I love their slightly hot sweet barbecue sauce. My daughter had a grilled cheese sandwich that was served on Texas toast and she had them add smoked sausage. That made it unique and wow. My wife had the brisket plate. It was served with perfectly smoked, tender and moist brisket and an overly gracious serving of very hot ochre. You can ask for lean or moist when ordering the brisket and even though she ordered the lead, it was still very tender moist It was a great find! read more

They do a really good job. In my opinion when they're open if here is cold barbecues got good rings on it tasty the burgers are adequate. People are friendly when they're open people around here. Don't know when they're gonna be open. They open when they want to they close when they want to. They don't really keep regular hours. In my opinion. I drive by a different days different times no one's home. I have several friends around town too that feel the same way back porch is never open when you want them to be open. They open it when they want to. That's it. They stay open as long as they want to. I like the food. I just can't count on them being open when I have a hankering so I stopped trying to go. I drive right past now. I don't give it a second thought there are plenty of other places to get good barbecue. I go to Bastrop good barbecue in Bastrop that's my two cents. I wish they stayed open more than they do that's my observation. I don't even check to see if they're open anymore. I just make other plans. Chose this place because of the reviews and it was our first time trying it. Was very disappointed. My husband got the pulled pork plate with side salad and their beans. I got the chicken plate with potatoe salad and dirty rice. His pulled pork was dry and the beans were ok. My chicken was a bit dry and the potatoe salad was store bought (or it seemed like) the dirty rice was not dirty rice. I wish I could say I had a good experience here but I didnt. We arrived around 1249pm and while we were seated right away and for drinks an entire hour went by with no food. There was a party but folks who came in almost 40 minutes after us were served before us...at first appetizers then meals for people who had6nt waited like us. Other tables got multiple drink refills we got nothing. The server didn't even do the bill just handed us the machine to do it yourself. Seems a bit odd looking from the outside, but is actually really tasty! We stopped here on the way back from the Houston Taylor Swift concert and it did not disappoint! It seemed relatively empty which was a shame because this place tasted really good! The brisket was super moist and flavorful, and service was fast and friendly! Our waiter was so nice and helpful. We also got the specialty banana pudding and it was so freaking good. If you're ever near here, definitely go and try it out. The inside is actually really cute and brightly lit which is nice. Our family along with my in-laws were passing through La Grange. We stopped here for lunch based on the good Yelp reviews. I got a burger. Others got BBQ and chicken tenders. My burger was awesome. Lots of flavor. Everyone also loved the fries. I tried bites of the pulled pork, sausage, and briquet. All were very good, and their BBQ sauce is good too. The wait staff were all friendly as well. Next time we pass through La Grange I'm sure we'll stop here again. I included a picture of my burger. One side note -- Our group is also very picky, especIally my mother-in-law. I can't tell you how many times I have pulled up to this place only to go to the door and find it locked during the day. The times I have found it open they had no ribs and the beef was not fresh. I've had the burger which was pretty good. I keep thinking this place is someone's hobby because who can keep a place locked up more than open and still make a profit? There doesn't seem to be anyone in charge of managing the place and certainly not an owner. Before they open somebody should sweep off the front porch and clean up outside so you don't have to walk through leaves. Don't plan on coming here until you call to see if it's open. read more

I went for the one meat platter (opting for brisket, natch) and two sides. The green beans are canned, and know that the potato salad is really a twice baked potato salad. We got here right after they opened but you could tell it picks up pretty quickly for locals and lunchtime. It's a small place but they have a good amount of seating. I was shocked to see negative comments about the portion size of the food! We both got a pulled pork sandwich and I got fried okra (which was delicious!). But the sandwich size was pretty dang big and there was no holding back on the side of okra or his fries. The pork was so tender and juicy. We both devoured it. Pit stop on the way from Houston to Austin in June 2012. Prices: decent for BBQ. Food: I got a half brisket, half pulled pork sandwich (not sure if it's on the menu but I asked for them to make me one b/c I wanted to try both meats but in smaller portions and they were happy to). The meat was flavorful albeit a bit dry, which was remedied with their delicious BBQ sauce and free sandwich fixin's. The bun was fresh, slightly sweet, and the perfect complement to the salty BBQ. I got a side of twice baked potato salad which really made this meal worth having - it was like a potato had been baked, topped with bacon, butter, and green onions then chopped up and scooped onto your plate. So delicious! Seating: spacious and homey. The whole restaurant is a renovated house with lots of rooms and a pretty clean bathroom from what I remember. Service: friendly and accommodating. He absolutely loved the BBQ sauce but the actual BBQ was lacking in seasoning and flavor. The brisket had no smoke ring and the BBQ did not taste smoked at all. It was just pretty bland to me. I got the burger and it was decent. I'd say the burger is definitely better than their BBQ selection. I got the bacon cheeseburger and it was slightly too well done for a medium burger - everything else was a-okay as expected. The curly fries that came with the burger though were fresh and crispy!
