I was really impressed with the facilities and quality of care at Paw Paws. I have gotten to talk to the owner, and though she may not be a people person, she is absolutely a dog person. She truly cares about animals and takes pride in the services she provides. She is very experienced with geriatric dogs and no detail goes overlooked. Rainey has been going to Paw Paw's for 5 years now. She has boarded as well as attended fairly regular daycare. She absolutely loves it there. When your dog whines loudly pulling in the lot and jumps out and runs right in without looking back, they are doing something right! (Copied this from my old review of the Arlington location, as all they've done is move to a new location, same ownership etc.) My mastiff is very shy with people he doesn't know, but he LOVES other dogs. The last time he was kenneled at a traditional facility, he wagged his tail so much in his crate that it was irreparably damaged and had to be amputated :( So we were thrilled to discover Paw Paw's, which is as close to home as it is wonderful. Paw Paw's is a primarily cageless facility where the dogs get to play and eat and sleep together on couches, blankets, you name it.. like home. Obviously this setup is not ideal for all dogs - and one thing I really like about how Mandie runs the place is that she has all boarding dogs come for an initial play day for free before they get to stay for boarding, so she can assess the dog's temperament and, if it is unsuitable for the group environment, suggest the client go elsewhere. This keeps it a happy place for all the pooches! She made good friends with my dog, as evidenced by an adorable photo taken where they have their faces together -- something Brownie will NOT let you do if he doesn't love you. In fact, when I come to pick up Brownie, though he is happy to see me, he also appears eager to go back and play with the other dogs. That is not something that ever happened at the other place (even though he did get day play there as well). Brownie sees Paw Paws as a treat, so I am very happy to trust them with my fur-baby. read more

Called simply to get more information on grooming and instantly knew I wouldn't be coming here. The lady who picked up the phone did not greet me, simply said "paw paw house". When I asked about grooming she interrupted me by saying grooming is only offered to the dogs staying there. Surely, there's other ways to approach potential customers without all the unnecessary attitude. read more

The last time we went on vacation we left them at Petsmart (our big dog was NOT happy when we picked them up). When we picked them up from Paws Paws they were both extremely happy!! Wow, I was so worried when I left town and had to leave my 2 13 yr old dogs over night for the first time ever. I can honestly tell you that this is truly a great place for dogs. I have a very high maintenance dog that needs his own quiet time and isn't super social. He did great and loved his stay. My boys were clean, well fed and happy when I picked them up after 3 days. Stopped scheduling an employee because, she/he needed to be there for the birth of her/his grandchild, and had never asked for a day off for the entire year she/he had been there! The owner takes home my little 3lb chi and wares out my big 115lb dane and let's my 13yr old weim sleep the day away. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! - First time boarder here - needed a weekend stay for my big guy and loved their open concept, no cages unless your pet has special needs for one. I emailed early in the week for the details, they arranged his 1st day visit for evaluation Thursday and plans were to board him Friday morning pick up Sunday evening. Very accommodating completely. Answered every question and calmed my fears, I was totally at ease leaving him. Dropping him off Thursday morning was very easy, they were so welcoming not just to me but most importantly to him.I have a big 120lb Olde English Bulldogge (lap dog 100%) while he is very docile and a gentile giant he looks very intimidating and scares a lot of people away but he isn't aggressive in the least bit and they took the time to recognize that and not just store the scary looking dog in a cage at the back of the facility.. He was getting/giving kisses before I left and made him self right at home, they also make every effort to match him with dogs who have similar play styles to make the most of their stay. I appreciate the locked door policy and set pick up drop off times as not to disturb the dogs in board. I cannot say enough great things about this place and look forward to bringing him for his next visit. I know my dog does not feel abandoned or like he is in doggy jail being punished while we vacation which makes leaving him behind a little bit easier. Many thanks to the crew at Paw Paw's. Our 2 fur kids, Mitzi and Chloe have always received top notch care at Paw Paw's. It's such a comfort to leave two dogs with very different needs, but used to living together, and have both thrive while in their care. Mitzi is a young terrier mix with lots of energy and a bit of a housetraining problem. Chloe is a senior with allergies and a need for much more peace and less activity. I have to start by saying this place and the staff is absolutely amazing! Having never boarded my dog before, I was very apprehensive about leaving her behind while out of the country for a week. I love that they they take the time to make all new customers drop their pups off for the day, sort of a trial run. If the visit doesn't work out, you know beforehand and not while you're away. They really spend so much time with animals playing and seem to really love their jobs. If you are looking to board your pup for the first time, you really have to check this place out. There aren't the excessive extras to pay such as "person attention" or "15 minute" walks, or that you child will be cooped up in a kennel for 20 hours a day. Paw Paw's is AMAZING! I just boarded my terrier mix there over the holidays and could not be happier with his care there. Mandie really makes you feel comfortable with her cage-free set-up and you can tell immediately how much she loves dogs. I have had my parents and several friends watch my dog for me when I've been out of town, and they've always reported him "sulking" and not wanting to play, having a decreased appetite and seeing a decrease in his playful demeanor. This was not the case at Paw Paw's - Mandie reported that the other dogs would start hiding from my dog because he wanted to play non-stop and they needed a break! She also reported that he LOVED mealtime and had a great appetite the whole time he was there. He came home with a sweet little holiday gift bag complete with a paw ornament "made" by him :o), and a photo of him with a santa hat on. While he was happy to see me, I think he was truly sad to leave Paw Paw's! I will definitely be bringing him back for daycare and will enthusiastically recommend Paw Paw's to anyone who is looking for a great doggie day care or boarding facility. read more

Beware! We are new customers (second day) and left our dog for the day. After trying to call the entire day and leaving messages on their answering machine inquiring about his welfare, we discovered our dog was locked in the house and no one was on the property. When they did return, their reply was "pickup is not for 30 minutes". Certainly we will never do business here again. read more

My co-worker drives by this place on her way to work and suggested I try it after I found out my usual boarding place was full for the holidays. I looked on the website and it said dogs must be brought in by Friday, December 23rd because they were not accepting dogs on Christmas Eve or Christmas. So, I called to check the price. Mandie asked me what type of dog I have (Shih tzu) and when I was going out of town. Told her we were leaving Sunday (Christmas) and she said I could bring our puppy on Saturday morning, 12/24/11, and the fee for the stay would be $180. When I went to pick my puppy up on Monday, 1/2/2012, I was given an invoice for $270!! I told Mandie that she told me on the phone the fee would be $180 but she said, "I don't know how I would have came up with that number. I'm sorry, I GUESS." What she should have done was admit her mistake and honor the price she told me on the phone--THAT would have been good customer service. Needless to say, I paid the $270 but Mandie and Paw Paws have lost our business. We will not go bring our puppy there again nor will we recommend that place to any of our friends. read more
