Wanda says TWO PAWS UP for PAW!!

Aside from the beautiful facility, the team here has been accommodating and so lovely from start to finish! My lil lady, Wanda, was seen by Dr. D, Sarah, and Erika this week & I was over the moon with the standard of care. As someone who works in the veterinary field myself, I find it difficult to hand over my dog's care, but PAW has made it easy and stress free. We can't wait for Wanda's teeth to be fresh and clean next month. Thank you!!

PAW veterinary center was my to go vet the last couple of years. i had a really pleasant first visit, the staff are all really nice and welcoming. everyone that has or had a pet knows how important it is to find a trustworthy vet, bc our furbabies do not have a voice. the drs and techs are the most knowledgeable as this is their field. anyways, march 3rd is when we went in for a same day appt, rocky was due for his wellness exam and vax. but he was in bc he had what seemed to be tummy issues and limping. we were seen by Dr. Kira Didkovskaya, she was very professional, patient and listened to all my concerns. i picked up a bottle of visbiome probiotics, rocky got his vax, a fecal test and we went home. i love that PAW has great communication via emails! they do great with follow ups and check ins. well a week went by and rocky still was not feeling better, he was actually doing worse. despite his tests coming back normal, he was acting out of character. made another appt a week later. since they were booked, i had to drop rocky off and in btw appts, they were going to do x-rays. rocky was seen by Dr. Michael Handley, who did rocky's initial exam at PAW. Dr. Michael Handley called me to go over his x-rays, i did not have a copy so i couldnt see what he was explaining. when i went to pick rocky up, i was hoping to meet with Dr. Michael Handley so we can go over the results. Dr. Michael Handley explained he had to get a second opinion on the x-rays and that is what took longer. well, it was inconclusive, he couldn't confirm whether it was his spine or his knees "Primary Recommendations: Correlate with orthopedic examination to assess for cranial drawer and consider orthopedic consultation for surgical and nonsurgical options to address the stifle instability and intra-articular injury" dr prescribed rimadyl and took him home 2 days later, rocky was back at the vet. he was seen by Dr. Michael Handley. "..based on nis symptoms and x-rays, we suspect he has intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), a condition where the cushioning discs between the vertebrae in the spine become damaged or inflamed, causine pain and potential nerve problems." "..If Rocky doesn't show improvement with these treatments, we may need to consider a referral to a veterinary neurologist for more advanced imaging (such as an MRI) and possible surgical options.." great. took him home with more meds..gabapentin made an appointment with a neurologist center for the next day (thursday) that is when that dr knew right away it was not rocky's knees or spine. that is when his prognosis was poor. i called PAW friday and let the front desk know that i was not coming to pick up the rest of the gabapentin that Dr. Michael Handley prescribed. i let them know that Dr. Michael Handley misdiagnosed Rocky and that I have to lay him to rest. i get a call from PAW, Liz Hix, who is not on the team's website, but she is the CEO of PAW as she holds the Veterinary Medical Board license .. she introduces herself as Liz Hix and she is calling bc she received a note that there was an upset call. i explained to her i am not upset, i am extremely sad as i found out that i have to put rocky down within the next few days as he has a brain tumor. the call was basically a CYA, she wanted to explain Dr. Michael Handley thought process and how and why he did what he did. i just listened to her. She added that in her 25 years of being in the business. she has only had 2 cases involving a brain tumor. (is that supposed to make me feel better?) She also asked if she can provide any euthanasia services, the answer is no. french bulldogs are a special breed, i understand that they are predisposed with a lot of health problems, a risk a pet parent takes. i will be doing my research on the drs at the next veterinary i take my future baby too...

We just moved to the South Bay and wanted to find a vet that wasn't a corporate machine (VCA). This place is just that! Everyone is super nice and personal. Dr. D is kind and compassionate. The facility itself clean and there's free parking in the back. Would highly recommend!

Came here for my cats first appointment! A well ness check to be specific First off the atmosphere- modern, clean building! Plenty of parking behind the building for anyone using the clinic. I love the atmosphere and immediately as i walked in, i was greeted by front desk staff. I had Dr. LeMoyne and she was absolutely wonderful. Never have met a vet so caring and thorough. Overall 10/10 wonderful clinic and I'm excited to have them as my primary vet for my sweet cats Overall experience- this is the vet clinic i will be using going forward. I love the vet, staff, and clinic itself.

Our dog had a second visit with Dr. Handley this week due to his fear of fireworks. Although there was a clinic emergency immediately prior to our visit, he never made us feel rushed. Dr. Hanley is kind, compassionate and takes the time to get to know your pet. If you are reading this review, please keep in mind that some dogs are deathly afraid of fireworks and some of our veterans may have PTSD due to the loud noises. Keep loud noises to a minimum.

Went here for the first time as our little girl had an issue that warranted antibiotics. I really liked the facility, easy parking and super friendly staff. They took a genuine interest in our fur kid and the doctor and tech were professional and informative. We'll be going again next time we are due for a vet visit.

How would it cost to get a dog examine?

If you call to make an appt they will tell you up front, but for my chi mix the basic office visit was $83.95 ... (a large dog might be more, or not, I don't know), but that's what it was in Aug 2023. Like all businesses, prices might change over…

Do you allow the owner to come in with the pet during the examination?

Our boy had some spinal issues amongst other things as he got older, and Dr. Moeller was always honest when it came to his prognosis and also never pushed unnecessary treatment or medications. I was desperate at one point and asked about an arthritis treatment, and she explained why our pup wouldn't be a good candidate for it which I appreciated because it was a very costly medicine, and in the end she was right. When she did advocate for treatment, I followed her lead and I am glad I did because it helped our guy live his final days somewhat comfortable before we had to say the hardest goodbye. The prices are also extremely fair coming from another clinic in Hermosa beach that was very high compared to this practice. We now have a 6 month old puppy named Penny and we just recently saw Dr. Moeller for her first wellness visit. She was once again wonderful and Penny was so happy to meet her and the staff. We look forward to many healthy years at Pacific Coast Animal Hospital and we plan on bringing our kitty in here for care soon too. Also- the front desk staff, and the vet techs are wonderful, patient and caring. I appreciated how kind and helpful they were with Jax and now our Penny girl. You will not be disappointed with any of the Drs here- they are all wonderful and will provide your pet with the best possible care.

I was beyond disappointed with my experience at this clinic…read more From the very beginning, the customer service over the phone was poor. I had to call to reschedule my appointment, and the experience was frustrating. I requested a Friday appointment, but they scheduled me for Thursday instead. Then, after rescheduling, they never canceled my original appointment. The staff came across as impatient and, at times, rude. Unfortunately, the experience only got worse once I arrived. The appointment felt more like a financial transaction than a vet visit. Before the vet came into the room, I told the staff that my dog doesn't like his back legs or ears being touched. I shared this so they could approach him appropriately and make the visit as comfortable as possible for him. The vet did not perform a physical examination or even attempt to examine him. Instead, the visit consisted of telling me which vaccines he was due for. She then left the room, and I was left wondering what exactly I had paid the $70 exam fee for, considering the entire visit consisted of her saying, "Well, he's due for all his vaccines." I also asked for a refill of Bravecto. The receptionist who came into the room to discuss pricing told me that if I did not complete the $60-80 heartworm test, they would not provide the refill. Since Bravecto itself is a flea and tick medication and does not require heartworm testing, this felt like another unexpected expense added to the visit rather than a clearly communicated medical recommendation. To make matters worse, the vet prescribed anxiety medication for my dog and told me I had to either purchase it immediately or, if I wanted to think about it and come back later, I would have to pay another $70 exam fee just to have the prescription written again. That policy felt incredibly frustrating and came across as prioritizing revenue over patient care. Overall, the entire experience felt like it was about money at every turn rather than providing thoughtful, compassionate care for my dog. I left feeling unheard, disappointed, and with very little confidence that my dog's best interests were the priority. I will not be returning to this clinic, and I would encourage others to look for a vet practice that places more emphasis on quality care, communication, and building trust with pet owners rather than maximizing charges.

Earlier that day, he had already been seen by my regular veterinarian, where bloodwork was done. Since they couldn't determine the cause of his illness, they recommended I take him to an urgent care facility. The only reason they referred me was because they did not have the equipment to perform X-rays or an ultrasound. They had already done everything they could at their clinic and wanted my dog to receive the advanced imaging he needed. When I arrived around 12:00 PM, the receptionist told me the wait would be about two hours. I completely understood because it's an urgent care, and I appreciated that they took my dog into the treatment area. I assumed he would at least receive IV fluids to keep him hydrated while we waited, especially because I specifically told the receptionist he wasn't eating, was weak, and needed an IV. I was willing to pay for whatever treatment he needed. As the hours passed, I repeatedly asked for updates. Around 3:00 PM, then again at 5:00 PM, I was told my dog was doing fine and that I would be seen soon. Finally, at about 7:00 PM, we were taken into an exam room. The veterinarian came in and immediately asked what was wrong with my dog. I was surprised because it seemed she hadn't been briefed on why we were there. I had to explain everything from the beginning while feeling overwhelmed after waiting seven hours. When I asked if my dog had been receiving IV fluids during that time, I was shocked to learn that he had not received any IV treatment at all. That was extremely upsetting because I believed he was at least being kept hydrated while waiting. After briefly reviewing the bloodwork from my regular veterinarian, the doctor told me my dog "might have leukemia (CANCER)" before performing any imaging, such as X-rays or an ultrasound. Hearing that was heartbreaking. She then recommended additional testing, including more bloodwork, X-rays, an ultrasound, and other diagnostics, with an estimated cost of around $12,000 just to determine what was wrong. I understand that diagnostics are important and that emergency veterinary medicine is expensive. However, after the lack of communication, the seven-hour wait without IV fluids, and hearing such a serious possibility mentioned before additional testing was done, I no longer felt confident continuing care there. I decided to take my dog home. Over the next two days, I focused on keeping him hydrated, monitored him closely, gently massaged his abdomen, and followed supportive care at home. Thankfully, he eventually passed a large mango pit in his stool. Once it came out, he quickly improved and made a full recovery. He did not have cancer. What scares me the most is thinking about how many pet owners may feel pressured into making heartbreaking decisions because of an initial possible diagnosis or because they simply can't afford the recommended costs. I kept thinking that could have been me. If I had accepted that my dog might have cancer without seeking another opinion or waiting for additional answers, I might have made a decision I would have regretted forever. Thankfully, in my dog's case, that wasn't what was wrong. Looking back, I understand that an X-ray may have helped identify the obstruction, and that is exactly why my regular veterinarian referred me there--they did not have the equipment to perform those tests. However, my experience left me feeling that communication was poor, my concerns were not taken seriously, and my dog waited far too long without the supportive care I believed he would receive. This was my personal experience, and unfortunately, I cannot recommend this facility based on how my dog and I were treated. I truly hope no other family has to go through what we experienced.

The office manager/managers, Carmen/Maria are the worst I have encountered in my life. Dr. Hanah lets them run the office and doesn't get involved so you have no recourse when you have a problem with the front office staff. I cannot recommend this vet because of one helpful person in the front office when everyone else is terrible. I had an incident a couple of years ago where I needed a prescription refill. The office agreed to refill it, and I made an appointment for the annual exam which was a few weeks overdue... Once I got to the pharmacy, after waiting in line for almost an hour !! there was a problem because someone at Pacific animal hospital dropped the ball and didn't follow through and I had to call the office and I had a problem with the managers. If you were a manager, you take heat from clients. I was concerned about my dogs' meds and I got no support. They went back on their word, and basically had to beg to get my prescription refilled so I went to another vet for a couple of years. I then decided to give them another shot because Mica had returned to the office after being gone for a couple of years. I have referred numerous clients to this vet and still they accused me of mistreating their staff (no yelling no profanity just a firm pushback because they agreed to fail my prescription and didn't follow through !!!) and "fired" me as a client (yes they were so unprofessional they used the word "fired". but never bothered to tell me.) A few days ago, I made an appointment and they sent me numerous reminders and spam and then informed me afterwards that I was fired as a client. Who does this?!! They told me they sent me an email after I booked the appointment informing me of "fired "status, but no email was sent . Not only will I never go back to this veterinarian, I will definitely be informing my clients of the mistreatment that I have encountered and advise that They should not be going back to this veterinarian. I hope Dr. Hannah changes his front office staff because after reading the reviews that seems to be the only issue but it's a huge issue when you can't get an appointment and you have to navigate past the rude, lazy , untrained front office staff. Too many other great vets in the South Bay to choose from., do yourself a favor and pick one of those.

HOWEVER, the third day she was almost comatose, a shell of herself. Called the practice. At first they just said go to ER, then called back and gave me the last appointment of the day. THAT'S where it gets truly awful. I get there, nobody is in the lobby, wait for 20 minutes, finally see Dr. Pirotto, whom I've never seen before. (And never want to see again) My dog apparently had a incredibly high fever but they couldn't find any sign of infection in the gums, etc. All Dr. Pirotto was concerned about was closing up. In the 10 full minutes we actually saw her she must have mentioned they have to close 5 times at least. She wanted to run blood but said running it there wouldn't be as good as sending it out to a lab which would take until sometime on Monday. Meanwhile, despite a serious fever that clearly indicates an infection, she refused to prescribe antibiotics (even as a stop gap), saying they are prescribed too much. WTF!?! She's willing to risk my dog's life to wait a few days!?! Once again, all she cared about was leaving. No sign that she cared about anything else. So... we went to an ER where my dog got fluids, anti nausea meds and antibiotics and is already showing a little sign of life. Dr. Pirotto's attitude and demeanor is unacceptable. As a business person I always make it right for my clients. And in this case we are talking about a LIFE. Also, even though I've asked numerous times, I don't know who actually performed the dental cleaning, which is sketchy to me. Overall, it was a wonderful experience on what could have been a very stressful day. Safe to say we've found our new vet for Hugo!

Overall, very private equity pricing- nothing to do with the pets getting better service. I say try to go anywhere else but modern animal. They also just lack the professionalism- instead of saying upfront it's basically 3500 for each cat, they said it was 800 and then added bunch of stuff later on after i put my cats to sleep on gaba. Also hated the girl who tried to hide the pricing saying it was in the best interest for the cats, so i asked again and they finally showed me. They also charge for things they may use- so why not just charge after you are sure you used them. also told the doctor multiple times i can go to the VA to get his heart checked out but instead of that they said it was fine but wanted to run some extra test not covered by insurance in their office after i repeatedly told them i can take him to the va for get it cleared. this is horrible business model and should not be supported out of principle. this business model would mean less animals are rescued just for private equity pockets to get richer. Also the manager tried to poor shame cos i was appalled at the pricing and wanted to shop around and hello i did find a vet that charges 800 for full sleep and teeth cleaning. hallelujah. also no offense but 300 for rabies shot is also insane.

Our Goldendoodle had GDV aka Bloating due to the stomach being twisted which is fatal to most large breed if not resolved with surgery immediately. This Urgent Care excels in five important factors that every pet parent looks for, I found them all in this wonderful pet hospital. Compassionate Care -- The staff showed genuine concern for my pet's health and comfort, making the experience less stressful for both of us. Dr Singh was upfront and explained his diagnosis, lab results, Xray and the urgency to perform Molly's Life-saving surgery. He spent time to inform of us post op care. He is a very caring vet. Professionalism -- Every team member was knowledgeable and handled my inquiries with patience and clarity, ensuring I felt informed throughout the process. Natalie in the front desk was astounding handling our emergency check -in process. She has the biggest smile. Clean Environment -- The hospital maintained a clean and welcoming atmosphere-(they have water, coffee and snack station) which reassured me about my pet's safety and health. Affordability-Their prices are very reasonable and they don't suggest any unnecessary tests if not needed. Follow-Up Support -- After the visit, the staff provided thorough follow-up instructions and were available for any questions I had, demonstrating their commitment to ongoing care. the Office manager Melissa texted me and checked how Molly was the day after her surgery. This is a review I didn't expect to be making and am very disappointed by my experience here today…read more First off, I just want to say, I've had really great experiences with the vet techs/staff. I've also had an okay experience with the vet. I'm not exactly sure what happened tonight, but just pure disorganization for sure. I first came here last Monday. My dog had some sort of large wound and raised bump on his paw. It wouldn't go away. My schedule is pretty inflexible so it's hard to find a vet that sees pets after normal business hours and doesn't charge an emergency fee. I stumbled upon HQPC on Yelp and it had great reviews. I called and was able to get a same day appointment. I spoke to Jay at that time and she was lovely. I came in at my appointment time, was seen right away and was helped by Angel and another vet tech or employee. I didn't get her name but she has tattoos. Both her and Angel were so kind and lovely. Dr. Amini was really helpful too! I left ready to leave a 5 star review, but just didn't have the time to. I came back today (Monday) as my pup wasn't really improving. I was happy to come back since I had such a great experience last week. I made a same day appointment at 7:45pm. I arrived 5 minutes late (oops), though that didn't even matter. I waited about 25 min in the waiting room. Once we got checked in, I waited another 25 minutes in the medical room. Dr. Amini came in for approximately 3 minutes, said he wanted to do a cytology and a vet tech will be in to help me. Great! Someone came in to help me sign the forms for the $500 bill. And then I waited and waited for another 25 minutes. Theres also some time unaccounted for so I honestly probably underestimated the time too. But I was here about 1.5 hours, if not more. Needless to say, I left. Michelle, who helped me out in the front to check out was very kind and understanding. She explained that Dr. Amini was running behind due to a surgery. I totally understand and please please triage and put more urgent pets before mine! But there was no communication of this at all. Just waiting and waiting. Dr. Amini was literally only in the room with us for 3 minutes. Michelle said she wouldn't charge me, which was nice. But I wasted almost 2 hours and nothing was done with my pup. I'm overall, just really disappointed with my experience.
