In having to deal with a very serious and unfortunate day the past week. Our dog Kareem started having convulsions from multiple ailments and old age. We knew he was near the end because of health but we couldn't have appreciated more everyone who helped us that day at Paw Works when we had to bring him in to get him stabilized and eventually be put down. For probably one of the saddest days of my life Christine and the staff at paw works helped us make sure Kareem was able to leave this earth as peaceful as possible and give us a comfort level that I truly don't believe we would have gotten anywhere else. I am even more disgusted with Paw works than I've ever been. After DNA testing my dog and finding out about his medical condition, informing them so that they could be decent people and inform the other adopters so they could be proactive, I found ever dog I was in contact with from his litter also had HUU - HUA. Albie is now just shy of 5 yrs old and had an almost complete urethral blockage do to the stones. $4000 and a few days in the vet, two surgeries, and several catheters later, I'm hoping he'll be on the mend. Due to Paw Works ridiculously early neuter - 4 weeks approx - his urethra and bladder never developed which has caused complications and may result in a urostomy. We decided this would also be a good time to get him neutered (I have a 5 year old son and they rough house a lot so I wanted our puppy to be be able to rest) they transported him to his appt at their animal hospital and took care of our little king. Have released 3 of my favorites cats:an orange male friendly. Two tabbies, female and male. Requested some reimbursement for the gas and the neutering. Was denied. Because i am getting old, had to release them, and could have opted to advertise and get them a home, now , after reading all these poor reviews my heart is aching thinking , these 4 precious animals were released to anyone just for the profit. When i adopted my previous cats, i would deliver them, and had a clause, that IF for any reason they did not wish the cat after 3 years, i would reluctantly take it back, but, urge these families: plz. do not throw him/ on streets. I would take him/her back and try to re-home or just surrender to a good family free. It did happened: not all adopters ; even in Santa Barbara, were not responsible: 2 were run by a car, 1 run away for poor treatment, and died ...The last one, let him out and a coyote got him. Please owners of this rescue PAWWORKs, reply . God bless you for saving some animals. All of us, understand it is costly to keep these creatures but money is not the only reason we help these helpless animals. The last cat i surrender decided to have her do away with their babies? A neighbor here in agoura hills adopted a dog about a year ago. They have had a huge hit with the family and cannot take care of the dog they adopted anymore. It's sad yes but this rescue does not help taking back a dog they rather it go to get shelter. The owner is so upset it's not what she wants to do at all. Any rescue should always want to make sure their dogs are taken care of and want it back. They are just in it for the money and not to make sure all their dogs are safe and in loving homes where they are taken care of. What's the point if they go back to the shelter. I am so grateful for my beautiful pup I adopted. But I thought I was adopting a healthy pup. I wasn't told that the puppy had ring worm. Treatment for ringworm isn't easy at all. It's about a 6 week process of oral meds, topical athletes foot cream, and weekly medicated baths. I have a 5 year old so I've had to keep our puppy isolated to keep any of us from getting It. A couple weeks after the ringworm diagnosis I decided to take a fecal sample to our local vet. Turns out our pup also have TAPE, ROUND WORM, and GIARDIA. Vet bills are racking up and I've reach out to the manager at paw works and I get sent random over the counter med picture at 1am showing me what they use to treat there dogs. But honestly this is a stressful and overwhelming experience. A little comfort would have been nice. This hasn't been easy or CHEAP. I've had my pup for 6 weeks now and I think I've spent about $700-800 in vet bills. Has anyone else's pup had ring worm and all these parasites from them? read more

Been looking for a puppy for my son for about 6 months, saw Paw Works while at TO Mall. Long story short, he found 4 month old Husky mix that we adopted. My first warning should have been the $450 'rehoming' fee, then at check out they added a mandatory $150 in supplies that you had to buy there and donate remaining. My fault, should've read what I signed better because the adoption fee is non-refundable. We had to take the pup back the next day because my Lab was overly aggressive with her and I didn't want her in danger. They would not refund any part. Lesson learned is if they actually cared about animals, they would have a trial period that you can return. Evidently the money is much more important to them then getting animals in the right environment read more

Five stars because we have the sweetest babe thanks to them, but -4 for their lack of accountability when it comes to the dogs health. Honestly, look elsewhere for your future dogs. It breaks my heart what this organization is doing. While I will be forever grateful for paw works bringing our rescued baby into our lives, I will never rescue from them in the future and I feel like there needs to be some accountability on their part regarding their rescues and the rescues's health prior to adoption. My first concern once leaving the facility was the fact that they do ZERO background check on families coming to adopt. Maybe their fee of $500-550 is supposed to wean out those not as committed or those who have ill intent, but I still find it concerning. My second concern comes after my husband's work dog (first responder) had his annual physical and his test came back with a parasite. We decided to take our new puppy as well as our older family dog to the vet to be checked as well. Come to find out ALL dogs have a parasite and the puppy also has roundworm (common in puppies who get it from their mother). Our vet is convinced that our puppy (from paw works) is patient zero. Our main concern is keeping our pups healthy - and we are going through the process of doing so. I'm just extremely frustrated with their lack of commitment to their dogs health. We sign a contract that makes them void of any and all medical/vet expenses. Yet there is zero accountability on their part when they "sell" these dogs to the public. read more

Probably ok to use as an pet adoption facility BUT NOT as a vet facility. My dog had surgery done there and still limping. After seeking 2nd opinion I was told by another orthopedist that the surgery was not done well. I do not recommend this Vet facility, unless it's a very minor vet visit - like to clean teeth or something very basic. Their prices are a little cheaper but watch out for double charges on statements, etc. read more

All I can say, is wow. My boyfriend and I adopted our little guy from Paw Works about a month ago. We later found out he developed an issue with his eye and needed to get it removed immediately. Paw Works has been so incredible every step of the way. From finding specialists, to taking care of our Franklin, nursing him back to health, to finding a stellar donor who paid for his surgery! -that's a story that'll make anyone cry with gratitude- Kristyne, Paw Works manager, kept us in the loop with his health updates and appointments. I am very grateful for my dog that I adopted from here about 2 weeks ago, but they really need to redo their adoption process and how they handle their dogs in the store. They are trying to save TOO many dogs at once. They are putting up to 5 BIG puppies in cages with LITLLE TO NO ROOM for them. The dog I adopted had her spay surgery 3 DAYS before being put up for adoption in the store where other dogs were standing ON TOP of her, which gave her enormous bruising. It is truly cruel to put dogs who haven't recovered from their surgery in a space with other dogs. When we got to our car with our dog and she immediately began coughing and we had to spend upwards of close to $2k to finally figure out what was wrong with her (acute pneumonia ). We only spent 10 minutes with her before accepting her into our family, before she was taken to the back. Surely she must have shown signs of coughing with the staff, before she was given back to us, but we weren't told anything. They barely have any background information about where the dogs come from as well! It was like pulling teeth trying to figure out the history of my new dog which is EXTREMELY important. Someone mentioned that they under feed their dogs, and they're probably right. I thought they had my dog in their care for at least 2 weeks, but she was eating like she had been starved. She also came with a sensitive neck due to bruising which definitely happened in their care. They also lied about her age. They advertised her as 4, but when they gave me her vet records, it said that she was 5. WHY LIE?! I'm just glad that I got my dog out of that environment and not at all what I expected from a rescue that loves their dogs. read more

Our family of four has been considering getting a dog for a few years we had been looking consistently for the weeks during the quarantine and found Pawworks was still open for adoptions and were practicing safe measures of social distancing. We waited a total of 8 hours from start to finish on a day where they had a lot of puppies available. 40 dogs or so were adopted that day. They opened at 10 and we heard people were waiting since 6am. We were hoping for a puppy by ended up with a Shepard/ hound mix and OMG she is the perfect dog for us. 1 year old completely sweet and clean bill of health from our local Vet. This review is solely regarding the way the manager, Brittney, was acting towards the employee Maika(unsure of spelling). We were asking Brittney about the adopting process and she then told us to wait as she answered a FaceTime call instead. She called Maika over to help us and Maika was doing a great job explaining the process to us. Brittney corrected maika about the weeks it takes for the dogs to get vaccinated but in a rude manner while still on her FaceTime call. When the call ended Brittney interrupted maika and in a *very belittling and rude* way was questioning maika on some of the rules during the adopting process such as owner of the house vs renting a house etc... we all understand that we need to train employees to make sure they have the right info but honestly Brittney was acting so so rude and we felt so bad for maika. There is a kinder and friendlier way of helping us while also helping maika sure she gets all the right steps in helping people adopt the dogs. That simple interaction was a huge turn off and we left. Maika just know you're doing great and we appreciated your help! read more

I've gone twice to get a puppy but it's first come first serve. The people who work there are rude. I keep seeing reviews that they willingly give out sick animals & now it seems they are so greedy they have to many dogs to even get adopted out. They don't do a normal adoption process, no questions about other animals, kids or issues in a household. It's all about money not the love for the animals. read more
