I have hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and at 32 years of age, I had already endured ten surgeries in ten years; these included two multi-level spinal fusions at C4-T3 and L3-S1, and a kyphoplasty to repair a fractured vertebra at L1. When I needed a third fusion to stabilize both SI joints, my insurance denied it, and my previous doctor was unwilling to appeal on my behalf. After two years of fighting for approval on my own, I found Dr. Jankowski through a Southern California EDS Facebook group. I was physically and emotionally exhausted, and honestly desperate -- I'm so grateful I found him when I did. From my very first appointment, he was kind, efficient, and genuinely knowledgeable about my rare and complicated condition, and it meant so much to finally feel understood. He assured me he was on my side and would fight for the surgery I needed, and he meant it. His office manager, Paritash, got to work immediately, submitting appeal after appeal and keeping me updated with such care every step of the way. Dr. Jankowski personally advocated for me by writing a detailed letter to my insurance company on my behalf, and again during an extensive 40-minute peer-to-peer review phone call. Thanks to his persistence, my surgery was finally approved after several rounds of appeals. He was so reassuring and compassionate heading into surgery, and he stayed in touch throughout my hospital stay, even when my pain proved harder to manage than expected. My incision healed beautifully, and he went out of his way to order collagen-based bandages, knowing EDS patients often heal poorly after surgery. Paritash arranged my home health care and physical therapy right away and was always warm and quick to respond to my calls and texts. When managing my drains turned out to be more complicated than planned, she even came in on her day off, when the office is normally closed, just to remove them and change my bandages. Despite Dr. Jankowski being out of town for part of my recovery and my surgery falling right after Christmas, his team made sure scheduling follow-ups was never a hassle. It's been three months since surgery and two months of physical therapy, and the chronic back pain caused by my hypermobile joints has almost completely disappeared, dramatically improving my quality of life and allowing me to return to in-person work after being practically bed-bound most of the day. I first met Dr Jankowski in 2021 2 days after a chiropractor visit. I went into the ER with excruciating pain in my upper neck, back and arm. I expected a cortisone shot and some pain meds but my spine was much, much worse than I'd know. He performed a cervical fusion in C4-C6 - creating a very small incision on the front of my neck. (You can no longer see the scar.) He was very careful with the survey, doing what was necessary without anything unnecessary. He was thorough and explained what he did (I'm sure he did prior to the surgery but I was too medicated to remember) but he did explain to my family. This past March, 2026, I felt a mild strain in my mid back and awoke the next day to unimaginable pain which dictated another ER visit. As I was quickly (within 10 minutes) being pushed out of the ER (like someone seeing drugs) because that attending Dr "does not image backs in the ER. Go home and call a specialist" I was finally able to get the attending to reach out to him who said to do imaging. Turned out I had MULTIPLE discs that had calcified against my spine. Had it not been for Dr Jankowski I would have been sent home and may still, 3 months later, been seen for my pain. Prior to the 1st of 2 surgeries he has to do this visit, Dr Jankowski shared with me how serious the surgery and was clear, upfront and candid about the potential negative outcomes of the surgery. He was clear that moving forward with surgery was completely dependent on my decisions. He had a very good bed manner and I could tell he was sincere. He ended up putting 9 screws and 2 rods in my mid spine. There isn't another doctor I would have trusted to do this surgery and I am thankful every day for his amazing skills! He performed 2 surgeries, one week apart which have allowed me to still be able to walk and (once I'm healed...) have use of everything. He continued to check in on my progress while I was in the hospital as well as did his Nurse Practitioner who was also amazing! She was just lovely! She checked in on me every day and was clearly an expert and very respected (as well) within the hospital. Dr Jankowski did my recent spine surgery. He is extremely knowledgeable, caring and conscientious. I had a very complicated procedure in May. It was 10 hours the first day, he allowed me to rest for a day, and finished the next day. Although I was under anesthesia, he knew how much I could handle and didn't try to push past. Warning: Critical Failure in Post Ops Care and Unprofessional Management. Warn other spine patients about severe breakdown in post operative care, patient abandonment, dismissive and unprofessional Coordinator conduct at this clinic. Underwent a major lumbar laminectomy and Microdiscectomy performed by Jankowski on May. Never a call or text to check on a patient after surgery. I am suffering from severe constant shooting pain down both legs, numbness, tingling etc...MRI shows disc protrusion and cysts. The Telehealth follow up appt with Surgeon to review and established an urgent treatment plan weeks later. Jankowski failed to show up for critical post op eval combined with a hostile unemphatic that mistreats patients in physical distress, represents a dangerous failure in patient safety. I were highly recommended to this doctors by my cousin in law. She had nothing but a raving reviews. Unfortunately for me I didn't feel the same way. I recently had a first appointment and after running through hoops for an appointment it didn't go as expected. I did not like the front staff, they were very short and standoff, the personnel poritasha, she was rude and i did not feel at all comfortable. I felt like it was maybe my race or accents. If you have previously had back surgery, it has been some time since then, and you now need a revision/update of hardware: I am going to save you some time and effort in your research to find the most capable surgeon for your procedure. My background: I had major spine surgery (L-4, L-5) laminectomy in 1997 (Dr.Mitchell Cohen was the surgeon, he's now retired). The hardware and appliance were supposed to last 10 years. Fast forward to this year (2023 - approximately 26 years later) and sciatica has returned and I am experiencing that familiar pain and weakness. I visited a Physical Therapist (PT) who then referred me to a local spine surgeon. I interviewed other surgeons over the course of about a year. Some told me to just stick with PT. Some said I should wait until I am in my 70's/80's to get surgery ( I am Female, mid sixties). My search intensified and a highly recommended surgeon told me that the surgery I needed was complex and he would not be able to do it. He told me to contact Dr. Pawel Jankowski. Which I did. Dr. Jankowski ordered additional scans and put together a plan for surgery. He was clear on what was going to be done and the projected outcome. I had the surgery at Hoag this past June. Hospital stay was about a week. Hospital care at Hoag Newport was outstanding. Follow up care with Dr. Jankowski is very satisfactory. He oversaw complete wound care, ordered an electronic bone stimulation device and gave me clear directions on how to use the brace and how to protect myself from injury while healing. I was given a phone/text number to use for any question or clarification with Dr. Jankowski's assistant, Paritash. This entire process has been outstanding. Professional demeanor, exceptional competence, fantastic communication, excellent outcome- all the boxes checked. I am now with an outstanding Physical Therapist ( Nathan Kindstrand- Tustin Physical Therapy Specialists) who is helping me to recover, fully. I would like to again mention a unique feature offered by Dr. Jankowski. That phone/text capability with Paritash, his very capable assistant. I had questions throughout the process and she was timely and clear in her responses to me, without fail. She saw to paperwork needed by my employer. Dr. Pawal Jankowski gave me my life back. I had horrific back pain for almost two years, went to multiple pain management places, had hundreds of injections and nothing helped. I was in pain 24/7 and could no longer do the activities I loved; even walking a short distance was painful. If you are in need of an AMAZING Neurosurgeon and team Dr. Jankowski is the doctor to choose. I sadly had a slip and fall in a bathroom in Oct. 2022 and had emergency spine surgery on November 6th 2022. Unfortunately the surgery was not done completely or correctly. I was slowly getting worse and my PT noticed during the evaluation and sadly it was much worse then expected. When I went to the ER prior to the emergency surgery they only did a MRI on my lumbar (The ER I went to was not Hoag or Saddleback originally.) even though I let them know I had a slip and fall. So after the excruciating surgery with the first doctor in November of 2022, I found out after three months of physical therapy I was getting worse. So I had to fight to get the imaging I needed, which showed I had four collapsed disc and a central spinal impingement in my neck at C6-C7 and in my L5-S1 along with a vertebra broken. Which lead me to my journey of finding the right doctor. I went from California to New York to have consultations with eight of the top Neurosurgeons, all of them saying I needed surgery and prior to me getting to the year point of the initial injury due to the impingement. Three of the doctors I had consultations with were very humble and told me that I was out of their scope of what they could do. But through that journey I was blessed to find Dr. Jankowski and his right hand Paritash. From the moment I called to make the consultation appointment with Dr. Jankowski, Paritash not only TRULY cared about what I had going on but was so kind and efficient in trying to get me in as quickly as possible for the consultation. Paritash and Dr. Jankowski went above and beyond to get me in as quickly as they could, even going so far as to finishing getting hospital privileges at Saddleback Hospital to do my anterior lumbar which included removing four disc and placing titanium spacers and my C5-C6 motion disc replacement on October 16th, 2023. I was so fearful of the pain due to the emergency surgery I had (which was not done by Dr. Jankowski) being so excruciating however, Dr. Jankowski did a phenomenal job the pain was minimal after compared to what I thought it was going to be. I was sitting up six hours after surgery and up and walking with an extremely less pain then I was in when walking into that surgery the morning of the surgery, which was absolutely phenomenal. After the anterior lumbar surgery I still needed to have my posterior lumbar fusion of all four levels from S1-L3, with fusion to my hips and reconstruction of the S natural spine shape due to my spine lossing it from the collapsed disc. Which Dr. Jankowski was the only doctor that found that my back was now what is called flat back, and with out fixing the S shape of the spine I would never be able to walk without pain. Paritash being the AMAZING person she is as well Dr. Jankowski started working hard to get the date at Hoag for me to have the next surgery. As usual Paritash being the right hand to Dr. Jankowski she was able to get Hoags surgery room for me on November 6th, 2023, but then she called and pulled her magic and said they could get me in November 1st, 2023 due to a surgeryroom cancelation. Well, its approaching a year since Dr. Jankowski operated on my back (severe stenosis). I couldn't ask for a more accomplished surgeon! The operation was a complete success. He and his staff (Paritash) are both informative and caring. It should be noted that Dr. Jankowski also operated on my spine (neck) with exceptional success. Unfortunately after being involved in an automobile accident all of his work need to be re-done (this time both from the front of the neck and the rear of the neck). Once again the surgery was a complete success (I have no pain, and the incisions are virtually impossible to see). I don't think there is a finer surgeon in in Southern California. I broke my neck in February 2021 and was taken by ambulance to Hoag Hospital. Luckily Dr. Jankowski was on call. He repaired my neck with 3 rods and 12 screws. It is now August 2022 and I have had no issues with my neck. It is completely healed and I have totally recovered with no issues. This is due to the outstanding care and expertise of this doctor. When my back made it hard to stand anymore, I visited Dr Jankowski. He did a great job essentially building a new spine for me. The surgery was not easy to get through especially during COVID with no hospital visitors, but with Dr Jankowski's surgeries on my spine I can now walk again. I am so very happy to be walking and standing once more! After the surgery was complete, Dr. Jankowski called in a plastic surgeon from Hoag to close the surgery site. This was very helpful in a much faster healing time, as the muscles in my lower back finally loosened up so I could use them to walk, twist and bend once more. After many orthopedic surgeons that worked on my back in previous decades, I have to say he was the best. It took more than one surgery since my spine was much worse than I had expected, but after the surgery and PT, and an amazing trainer I am well on my way to walking and moving without crutches or a wheelchair. I was resistant to the idea of another spinal surgery, especially after experiencing complications and zero benefit from my previous one. Unfortunately, I exhausted all options (epidurals, PT, explored stem cells, the whole nine) and had no choice but to go under the knife again. Dr. Jankowski failed my husband and we do not recommend him. The first time, my husband was in Hoag recovering from cervical surgery, developed blood clots in his lungs, and went into cardiac arrest. We had informed Dr. Jankowski in the pre-surgery room about my husband's history of blood clots. He said, "tell the anesthesiologist" and walked away. He should have ensured they were checking for clots. The second time, my husband developed an infection after spine surgery and became septic. Dr. Jankowski repeatedly denied it had anything to do with his work. Another doctor had to insist that Dr. Jankowski do a surgery to find and clean the infection. He failed to find it. About 6 weeks later, husband developed infection and became septic again. Dr. Jankowski refused to admit any responsibility and refused to see him in the hospital. About six weeks later, when my husband developed an infection a third time , I took him to a different hospital. A different neurosurgeon immediately located the source of the infection, cleaned it, and replaced the metal that had become loose from the infection. My husband has been infection free for 7 months and is pain free. Dr. Jankowski never apologized or admitted he was wrong. read more

This time my neck never stopped hurting after a cervical fusion in 2018 and I knew he was the only surgeon to attempt to fix me. Through Dr JANKOWSKI's care it was discovered I had a critical issue in my cervical spine that needed attention. I had surgery December 2023 and everything went very well. Prior to coming to Dr. Jankowski's office, I had visited 2 orthopedic surgeons in Orange County. I knew I came to the right place because Dr. Jankowski's findings on my MRI were completely different than the prior surgeon I visited. I found Dr. J to be highly intelligent and very knowledgeable about the spine in ways that the other doctors were missing. My MRI indicated immediate need for surgery to my cervical spine (C 5, 6, and 7). On June 21st of this year, I had fusion surgery which took a couple of hours. Dr. J and his team made me feel super comfortable. I had no stress at all. My blood pressure was normal! The nurse was surprised at how calm I was. That's because of how confident I was with Dr. J. I breezed through surgery and stayed one day at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach. Within 4 weeks physical therapy began. This made my pain go away. By the sixth week, I was feeling normal. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER WITH RECEPTIONIST. I called regarding a spinal fracture and was referred to another doctor that could do vertebroplasty. I could not understand what receptionist was saying and I asked if she could spell out the name of the doctor so I made sure I got the correct name. Receptionist lashed out at me for asking and started screaming at me and was incredibly rude. She should be fired for talking to a customer the way she did. This was the worst customer service I have ever experienced and I hope no one ever has to deal with that. Receptionist needs to be fired or trained not to take out her personal issues onto patients. After many epidurals, nerve ablations, and other procedures I finally decided to go ahead with surgery on my neck. A good friend of mine had major surgery on his back performed by Dr. Jankowski, and he highly recommended him. I had previously been with another neurosurgeon, but when I met with Dr. Jankowski I felt very comfortable with him. At first, when he recommended essentially total fusion of my neck (C2-T2), I was apprehensive, so I got a second opinion from my prior neurosurgeon, and when he recommended the same surgery I was convinced. I can't say enough about the entire process with Dr. Jankowski and Paritash, his assistant. They arranged for the hospital for the surgery and then had me transferred to the adjacent rehab. center. At the rehab. center I had all the help I needed to get me through the first week after surgery. By the time I came home I was ready to begin physical therapy the next week. I'm now 3 months from the surgery and am doing very well. The neck pain that I had dealt with for several years is pretty much gone. Of course, I lost much of the flexion and extension in my neck, but that was to be expected from the surgery. After suffering from pain in my right leg for more than three months, I ended up in the ER at Hoag Hospital. Turns out I had a herniated disc, which is when Dr. Jankowski swiftly decided on urgent surgery even though he had a booked schedule. He comforted me throughout the process, explaining the procedure and recovery process. I felt reassured that I would finally get relief after a difficult three months of debilitating pain. He made sure to update my family on how the procedure went the instant he left the OR. When I experienced post op complications he graciously made time for me and operated on me a second time. My recovery has been excellent without any difficulties. Interacting with him in the follow up visit was excellent. I enjoyed his positive energy and sense of humor. I have had back problems for over 25 years and the pain and loss of functionality accelerated about 6 years ago. I tried a chiropractor which helped for awhile but he suggested an MRI. I had serious deterioration of my lumbar spine - stenosis, scoliosis, Spondylolisthesis, degenerative discs, etc. the chiropractor said he was surprised that I could walk. Fast forward over a few years, I saw a number of top orthopedic and neurosurgeons and most had no answer. Meanwhile, I couldn't stand or walk for more than 5 minutes. I found Dr. Jankowski after a referral to Dr. Ozgur. Dr. Ozgur had me see Dr. Beshai for pain relief but soon both became convinced that I needed surgery. That's when I found Dr. Jankowski. I waited until this July to have surgery on my entire lumbar spine. He completely rebuilt it. It was a 2 day surgery - front day one to add 3 spacers (S1-L5, L5-L4, L4-L3) and day two for everything else. The surgeries went well - all 18 hours of being under. I spent 5 days at the Hoag spinal ward and then went to 11 days of inpatient PT at Hoag. It was a tough few days at first but my recovery has been amazing and he cured everything. It's 2.5 months later, I am fully mobile, walking for over 30 min, driving everywhere, working full time, riding my recombinant bike, using my elliptical and doing some weight lifting. I feel great. After I met with Dr Jankowski, I realized I did not have to meet with any other surgeons for my cervical spine surgery. During our first meeting, Dr. Jankowski clearly explained the surgery that needed to be performed, the risks and the benefits. Every interaction with the doctor and his team, especially his assistant, Paritosh was definitely a 10 out of 10. From the photo, you will see the surgery was very complex and require two separate surgeries on consecutive days. After several years of increasing back pain, I finally went with my wife for a consultation with Dr Jankowsky. We were impressed with his explanation of my back pain, his interpretation of the x-rays, and the surgery needed to perform to alleviate my back pain. With the use of the latest state of the art equipment, Dr Jankowsky successfully performed my surgery which consisted of 2 surgeries, one day apart. He replaced multiple deteriorated disks and straightened my spine. Since the surgeries and PT, I have not had to take prescription pain medication and am now looking forward for Dr Jankowsky's approval to play golf again. I saw Dr. Jankowski over two years ago for a consultation. I was in excruciating pain and needed a 4 level ACDF. I met with 6 doctors total before choosing Dr. Jeffrey Deckey to do my surgery. Over two years later, I receive a call from a collection agency saying I owed $450 for the consultation. I was baffled by this because I had insurance, a PPO and was not told when I made the appointment he was out of network nor did I ever receive a bill from Dr. Jankowski's office. I paid the fee but I'm not happy with the lack of communication from this doctor's office. Dr. Jankowski gave me my life back. 11 months ago, he performed a lengthy , 14 hr. Spinal fusion on me. I was only weeks away from life in a wheelchair. 09/2021 Update: It's been just over a year since my back surgery. Not only do I perform regular daily activities without pain, I am able to exercise heavily without any kind of pain meds! I trail run 4+ miles every day, do Pilates, lift weights, and was even able to get a 2nd job waitressing! Dr J also referred me to Dr Moulds in Newport Beach for my breast implant removal and reconstruction who was also able to work a miracle on me. Dr J is top in his field, and he works with other top surgeons. Dr J has improved my quality of life and I couldn't be happier or healthier than I am now! 09/2020 Review: I had cervical disc replacement (C1-2 & C2-3) with Dr Jankowski in September 2019. The next morning in the hospital I was able to grip his hand and shake it, something I hadn't been able to do in years because I had lost the feeling and strength in my arms. There was minimal pain and I was back to work in only 4 weeks. I just had lumbar disc replacement (L4-5 & L5-S-1) in May 2020, and again he worked miracles! I had nerve pain in my legs for 20 years and that pain was gone immediately after my surgery. I was fully functioning and caring for myself as soon as I got home, but had help so I wouldn't have to drive anywhere. My back took longer to heal, but still with minimal pain I am going back to work after only 10 weeks. I had been in physical therapy and had gone through every non-surgical treatment possible before seeing Dr Jankowski. My only regret is that I didn't see him sooner. He has a wonderful personality, he cares about his patients, and he collaborates with colleagues to make sure each individual patient is receiving the best treatment plan for their own body. Dr. Jankowski helped us when my Husband was in the worse pain of his life. He listened and set a plan that would help him, but, unfortunately his pain increased to the point where he couldn't walk so Dr. Jankowski performed emergency surgery. First let me say we felt very comfortable with his skill level and expertise. He kept us well informed even to the point of the surgical nurse calling me every 45 minutes during surgery to inform me of the progress. The Surgery lasted almost 5 hours but I felt comfortable with his care not being able to be there with the current Covid 19 restrictions. My husband had a hard recovery, not due to the surgery but to his afib and blood pressure, Dr. Jankowski had the necessary tests and specialists work with him. 6 weeks later he is progressing nicely. With out the Doctors calls on updates and calm bedside manner this would have been a nightmare. I don't write reviews very often or use the word "miracle" at all, but to us, he is a miracle worker! This review wouldn't be complete without mentioning his nurse, she has been my calm in the storm and assures me of what I am doing, as far as my husbands care, is correct. When it was time to move from home care to outpatient she was right on it getting us set up with a Physical Therapist and reminding us of upcoming appointments. Dr Jankowski is one of the very best neurosurgeons anywhere!!! He is honest, explains everything with complete accuracy and will ensure positive results. If he doesn't think you are a candidate for the surgery he will tell you. I am 2 months and 11 days out of surgery and am beginning to walk without a walker and brace.
