I'm glad they can be so selective on who is worthy of adopting from them or not, but they were extremely difficult to work with. First off, I had to email them weekly to figure out the status of my application. This went on for literally like two months. Just for them to turn around and say they don't think we're ready for a dog yet?? As if it's THEIR place to say if we are or not. We visited with a puppy there. Two couples had met with that dog first, then us, then another couple AFTER us. This puppy didn't get a single break from that room that whole time. The woman who facilitated our visit was extremely snobby, saying she doesn't think we're ready. I would like to add that this was AFTER we jumped through hoops to fill out their applications and find four people to give us recommendations. We went even further and got FIVE. Five people who said they believe our family is prepared to adopt a dog and properly care for them. I was beyond devastated when our adoption coordinator emailed us and told us she doesn't think she can work with us. This was the first time we put ourselves out there and filled out an application after losing our dog in a horrific, traumatizing accident a few years ago. Just to be treated this way is really disheartening and now we're afraid to even try and reach out to other shelters. I may use a fake name on here, but I'm sure they know exactly who we are. I'm assuming they don't tell many families with kids that they're "not ready" and shouldn't have a dog. Or maybe they do, I wouldn't be surprised about that either. They are clearly not THAT interested in providing homes to their dogs so they can go save more, because there was quite literally no reason for us to have been rejected. If you don't fit their EXACT standards, don't even waste your time. We are just so disappointed. 0 stars if I could. read more

My experience at Pawfect Life Rescue was wonderful. I adopted Malibu a 2yr wired hair Jack Russell terrier she is all black. Malibu is delightful and we are enjoying our time together playing, walking and riding in the car. All the staff was extremely professional, kind, and knowledgeable. A friend of mine recently fill out an application for adopting a pup and was approved for a meet and greet. The family of 5 drove an hour and a half to get there. She was shown 2 dogs and was there for her 40 minute session only to be denied because she is handicapped and wouldn't be able to walk the pup, even though there were 3 other people in the household that could. This is clearly discrimination and I would not recommend this shelter to anyone. read more

Avoid this dog rescue at all costs! There was a dog available for adoption who we liked, and the dog was very friendly and we got to meet the dog and spend time with said dog. Then one of the adoption volunteers was saying in the email how said dog would be a great fit for us, and then all of a sudden the volunteer said that the dog needed to go to a home to other dogs and that a dog in our home supposedly needed more shots besides rabies. They will string you along and act like the dog you are interested in adopting will be a good fit for your home but then come up with some BS excuse as to why that dog can't be adopted by you. I think this dog rescue lies too - the website said this dog we were interested in adopting was good with other dogs, and all of a sudden that dog isn't good with other dogs, and I saw a dog that looked awfully like said dog on their Facebook page getting adopted and another dog was in the picture. The dogs they rescue are adorable, but this rescue has poor communication skills and I don't feel like they are completely honest read more

This rescue made it nearly impossible to adopt a dog. I was rejected twice. The first was because I wouldn't be home to let my pup out every two hours for a party break. I explained that I would go home at lunchtime each day to let the pup out and get some exercise and have a potty break. Unfortunately, that was not sufficient for them and they rejected me. I told them that I would be happy to adopt an older dog rather than a puppy if the potty training was an issue. They contacted my references as well as my veterinarian and rejected me a second time. My dogs have always had the absolute best medical care. They were up-to-date on all the vaccinations and whenever they need veterinary care they received it. However, I did have their immunizations done at tractor supply which is only a couple of blocks from my home. It was much more convenient. Apparently, because I did not bring them in for well checks I was rejected. I am a nurse and have been a nurse for 30 years. I know how important medical care is. If my dogs showed any type of discomfort or sickness, I would've had them at the vet ASAP. I was not asked why they did not get well checks I was rejected without any chance for an explanation. If they had asked for my veterinary bills, I would've gladly provided them. They would've shown that my dogs were both spayed and neutered and the veterinarian was supplied with all proofs of vaccinations from tractor supply and were treated for any and all types of illness or injury. Which very rarely happened. My dogs were very healthy and strong until they get old and that's when their health started to suffer, and I lost them both. It has been several years since I lost my Dane and my mastiff and I was ready to try it again. To say that they dashed my hopes would be an extreme understatement. It breaks my heart that probably so many people out there like myself that would provide extremely loving healthy home for a pup, and I rejected without any chance to explain a given situation. read more

When my best friend first applied to adopt a dog through this rescue, they initially questioned her ability to care for a dog as she lived alone and worked in Boston. When my friend informed them, that I lived down the street and would be able to walk the dog during the day while she was at work, they requested that I come to the rescue so they could meet me. When we arrived to the rescue, the staff immediately told us that the dog my friend was interested in, did not like men and asked that my boyfriend stand back as they brought the dog out. This should have been the first red flag but when the dog entered the room, he immediately went to my boyfriend first and wagged his tail. My best friend fell in love with this dog and adopted him that day with a crate. I believe they charged close to $1000 for the dog and the crate. Over the next few weeks, we observed this dog to be aggressive when in public towards men, such as someone walking down the street, the mailman, amazon delivery man exc. My friend hired multiple trainers. Then the first bite came to one of her family members. So, my friend contacted the rescue to gather more information about where the dog came from in the south before he came to the rescue. The rescue could never tell us why this young dog did not like men. Nor could the previous foster. How did you know? How did you gather this information? Why would you list a dog as great with kids and dogs but not explain where you gathered that did not like men? If you knew he did not like men, why was he adoptable? Why didn't this rescue invest the time into training him? My friend contacted no bad dogs trainer and drove to upstate new york for three days and paid over 3k for training of this dog. Then the second bite came on one of my family members. Then, he attacked a foster kitten at my house, leaving her barely alive and costing me $3500.00 at VEG to save her life. Countless times, this dog would be with my three dogs playing for hours, then out of no where, he would attack my oldest golden retriever. We could see the switch in his eyes. It was so scary. He was unpredictable. More trainers were hired, more money spent, more time invested, hoping we could fix whatever happened to this dog. Then, two weeks ago, he attacked her aunts cat that we had rescued 5 years ago from a parking garage in Boston when he was two weeks old. This cat was special because he was two weeks old when we found him and my friend and I, took turns in our cruisers or our dispatch center bottle feeding this baby. Then she gave this cat to her mother who died last November. The dog had been around this cat so many times. The dog lives with bunnies and pays no mind to them. But is it fair to constantly live on guard? She couldn't walk this dog, she couldn't go away to put him into boarding, no doggie daycare, the only dogs he played with were mine and her brothers and he attacked her brothers German Shepard and my golden who were both significantly larger than this dog. When she reached out to this rescue for answers, help, suggestions, anything, maybe the truth on what they knew this dog had experienced so we could target training, no help, more lies. They knew this dog had a bite history and still adopted him out. My friend had to euthanize him last week because the unpredictability became to much to question. The fear of this dog attacking my child or one of her nephews was too much to bear after he attacked the family cat. She loved this dog. She invested so much time and money into training him. She put her life on hold for this dog, just to have to euthanize him. He was only 1.5. She is broken over this. Do your research before contacting this "rescue". Read the reviews. They flip dogs from southern states faster than any other rescue in the area. Not because they are "so great", but because they are profiting from adopting out southern, unwanted breeds. The owner is rude and uneducated. They hire transport vans to transport these animals from southern states where the dogs are overcrowded in the in the van without seeing daylight during transport for days. They don't care about the dogs, their history or you. DON'T adopt through this rescue. Absolute trash. read more

Our first pup, Cory, we adopted when we were renting a small home, no fenced in yard. Most rescues would have refused us as we did not own our own home and did not have a fence. We spoke with Julie multiple times, gave references and explained our desire to have a high-energy pup as my husband and I both enjoy hiking and running. Julie looked at our lifestyle and us and decided to introduce us to Cory. It was a great experience and he is an absolute perfect dog for our lifestyle. I adopted a Chu-weenie 3 years ago from Pawfect Life. I had my eye on another dog when I went to the meet-n-greet. I specifically wanted a small dog and when I met the dog I thought I wanted I was advised that he would grow to be much bigger than I wanted. My daughter was with me and spotted my soon-to-be rescue and I fell in love. I was up front that I had another dog who was "bossy" and they fully vetted my bossy dog to make sure it would be a good fit. These people are VOLUNTEERING their time, so any effort they put in to assist you is amazing. If not for these people, the animals would be running the street or put down. I was surprised and disappointed at how my girlfriend, whose dog just died (a rescue SATO, by the way) after 16 (!) happy years, was treated by Julie. After discussing a dog she saw on the Pawfect site, Lil Dude, for nearly a week with Julie, she decided to apply as we were waiting to close on our new house. Dude would have a fenced-in yard to play in, and a beautiful home life, with two loving dog people (I had a Pit Bull I'd rescued from being a stray for 8 years until he died of Leukemia). Rather than focus on the big picture, Julie chose to call out one incident the Vet informed her of. A minor incident, at that. She demanded history going back 7 years. As the current vet only had 3 years of history, and my dog died over 8 years ago, we were denied Lil Dude. Apparently Julie does not share the same compassion for humans that she does for dogs. As a proprietor she needs to take into account situational awareness and customer service. I would not recommend doing business with Pawfect unless you have a spotless record with past pets - otherwise Julie will send you a text message like this: "LOL, yeah well I guess that's gonna be an issue then...a shelter will throw a dog at you, but it won't be one of mine." read more

Don't bother with this rescue if you have children. The rescuers themselves introduce dogs that upon their own admission they don't "know anything about." It is a huge waste of time, and be aware that just because you are "invited" to an open house, your application has NOT been approved, and you are under no circumstances leaving with a dog. We started the application process due to a friend's recommendation who raved about Pawfect Life Rescue. After completing the steps, our references were contacted by email. We passed the reference check and were suggested to check out their dogs and attend an upcoming adoption event in December. We didn't see any dogs that seemed like a match as the selection seemed a bit limited, but we were still considering attending an event. However, as we were in the final stages of adoption with another organization, we told them to be fair that we had to pass on the event and withdraw our adoption application. This is another organization with a 4-star or higher potential rating, but our good rating is based on our finite experience with them. read more

When they passed it took us a couple of years to get us to the point of looking for a place where we couLD give a good home to a dog in need. We wanted to go local so we put in application to multi shelters. Pawfect life rescue is the worst to deal with. We had everything they required and gave us the run around. They refused us because our vets did not provide them with records that went back over 10 years , really!!! Their adoption process is so backwards that it ended up being a giant waste of time and my kids were heartbroken. I filled out the lengthy application and I was approved. We met with a dog that my kids and I fell in love with and we wanted to adopt her. We were told a few days later that because I work during the day, they didn't think it was a good idea for us to get the dog. Then why approve my application in the first place? There was a question on the application about whether or not you work during the day which I answered honestly so why approve me, have my kids and I get our hopes up about a dog, and then deny us? This shelter is more about your past conditions. Instead of digging deeper into the situation of adopting a dog, they would see that some people have different views. I would have given this rescue a 5 star plus until we had to return the dog we adopted from them within 12 after we originally adopted. Because the violence from the adopted dog on our 12 year old dog didnt occur in their time frame, 7 days, we did not get any of our money back! Even a partial would have been nice. We took a dog that had special needs and we were ok with that... now they will go and adopt her again for another $495!! What a score there!!! Very bad taste left in my mouth with this rescue! My only suggestion is if you think there could be an inkling of something wrong, make sure you get it back to them as soon as possible!! This place was terrible to work with. I have been a responsible dog owner for many years and have a beautiful large fenced yard, family members home a lot of the time, etc. I was rejected because my vet records were not 100% pristine from 12 years of owning a dog. During his healthy young years I took him to petco for annual shots and heartworm and flea & tick treatment but I only had a few records that I managed to dig up and Petco changed their vet and I couldn't get the records, plus this was many years ago. I did have vet records from when he was a puppy and when he was older and started needing more care. He even had a major knee surgery at 9 years old. I also had town records that showed annual rabies vaccines but that wasn't enough for them. They refused to consider anything else and were very rude about it. If they are truly a rescue, they wouldn't make it so hard to adopt. I worked with another fabulous rescue, Great Dog Rescue New England, that was fine with the vet records I had and we have a wonderful puppy rescued from Tennessee and he's living his best life. I was not impressed with this group. Like another on the board, they lacked customer service or even human friendliness. When I walked into the Uxbridge home, I had no idea who was in charge. There were puppies running all over the place. No one asked my name or who I was interested in - after I had gotten approved to adopt and told them I would be visiting at the home in Uxbridge. Some random woman was like "Go inside and check out the older dogs." After about the fifth time she said that I went inside. Two younger women were eating pizza and totally ignored me. They appeared to be living in the house or were volunteers. There was a dog inside that I was petting and they girls continued to ignore me. I said, well, call me b/c I am interested in this one. They didn't write down my name. It was so rude. WASTE OF YOUR TIME. They don't care about getting a dog a good home. It shouldn't be this much of a "human hassle" to get a rescue dog. I have since gotten my dream dog, a wonderful rescue, from another local rescue organization who were so kind and nice. I'm glad I didn't let this odd and snobbish experience deter me from using another foster-home-based animal rescue. read more

We had a great experience adopting our dog from Pawfect. So many of the dogs on PetFinder are not local to New England, it was great to get to meet our dog first. The Ladies at Pawfect were great about making sure our new pet would be a good match for our family. We had just lost our 11 year old dog to kidney failure a month before. We missed having a dog in our home. So we went to Pawfect life to adopt. We fell in love with the dog after only having her 2 weeks. Unfortunately I was having terrible allergic reactions from being around her. I ignored it and hoped I would just have to get used to our new dog. I always had a dog and never had this issue before. But it turns out I was allergic to our new dog's fur or dander. After thinking and crying about it all night, we decided we would probably have to return our new friend back to Pawfect Life. I called the founder Julie and sent an email. She decided not to respond. So I contacted one of the volunteers and the dog was picked up the next day. We hadn't even had her 2 weeks and they wouldn't give us the $475.00 back. They didn't even offer to help us with another dog. The next day I was pretty devastated after giving back the dog so I called my Dr to find out about taking medicine to deal with the allergy. Yes I should have done this before giving our dog back to the rescue. That was a big mistake on my part, but we all make mistakes right? Well I contacted the rescue and was told "Since you returned her, we cannot adopt her back out to you. Good luck finding your next companion" Down.Right.Cold. I agree with Joe that Julie does not seem to have any compassion for her fellow human beings. She had no problem keeping the $475.00 though. I guess they felt that since we returned the dog that we were not deserving of 2nd chance. Too bad Pawfect Life doesn't believe in 2nd chances for humans like they do for the dogs they rescue. read more
