Very informative and we were able to tour the farm and see many animals. There are cows, pigs, goats, chickens, geese, llamas, and more! The goats are so cute, and you're able to pet them freely. I highly recommend this place for any vegan looking for some animal loving or families looking for a fun and educated afternoon. Remember, this is a place that has saved many animals from being killed, not a petting zoo! It's wonderful!

When I told friends how we were going to visit a farm sanctuary, one of the first questions was…read moreusually, "What is a farm sanctuary?" A farm sanctuary is a kind of refuge for animals. Many of the animals are rescued from factory farms, from slaughter, abuse, or from abandonment. One of the things that distinguish Maple Farm Sanctuary is that it's the only sanctuary that was formerly a working farm. Jim and Cheri Vandersluis had a dramatic change of heart and a move of conscious that made it impossible for them to raise animals for slaughter. Their story is told in the documentary Peaceable Kingdom: The Journey Home. We visited Maple Farm Sanctuary on Father's Day and honestly I wasn't sure how my kids might respond. They're incredibly unpredictable. Would they enjoy the Farm Sanctuary? Would they be disturbed? Would they be frightened? Would they be bored? Would they complain? One of the things that make a farm sanctuary interesting and a sometimes troubling is that most of the animals have a story. Many of the stories are tragic and sad. These are stories of how the animals were often mistreated and treated inhumanely and how they eventually found a home here. It should also be said that while our guides at the Maple Farm Sanctuary were more than willing to share the stories of these animals in detail if asked, they were also sensitive to the presence of our small children. One sheep Tara Ann was rescued from three women who were beating her with sticks. Apparently these women didn't see anything wrong with beating an animal they were going to eat anyway. A Holstein cow Cassie, was raised in almost complete darkness for much of her early life. Her owners were just waiting for the day when they could bring her to slaughter. In Cassie's case, she did something remarkable, which rarely happens. She escaped the slaughterhouse by jumping a six foot high fence. One of the sad things about Cassie is that because of her experience, she suffered a great emotional trauma. As a result, she doesn't like open spaces and doesn't like spending time with other cows. Our guides shared about Cassie's story and about her slow recovery. We enjoyed feeding Cassie some carrots. Although, the stories of the animals were often troubling, it was somehow reassuring to know that they at least found a home here, where they can play, live and grow old. From my own perspective, the animals at the Maple Farm Sanctuary seemed genuinely happy. They were free to walk about and socialize and express normal animal behavior. The nature of life is that sometimes we don't experience a happy endings, but for these animals they found something of that happy ending. The animals that were most beloved by my own children were the goats and the llamas. The goats were incredibly friendly and affectionate. Although, you had to watch them, because otherwise they might nibble on your clothes. Overall the entire family had a great time at the Maple Farm Sanctuary. In fact, our youngest who is never shy about complaining, offered her highest praise when she said that she wanted to come back again.

First off, I had to email them weekly to figure out the status of my application. This went on for literally like two months. Just for them to turn around and say they don't think we're ready for a dog yet?? As if it's THEIR place to say if we are or not. We visited with a puppy there. Two couples had met with that dog first, then us, then another couple AFTER us. This puppy didn't get a single break from that room that whole time. The woman who facilitated our visit was extremely snobby, saying she doesn't think we're ready. I would like to add that this was AFTER we jumped through hoops to fill out their applications and find four people to give us recommendations. We went even further and got FIVE. Five people who said they believe our family is prepared to adopt a dog and properly care for them. I was beyond devastated when our adoption coordinator emailed us and told us she doesn't think she can work with us. This was the first time we put ourselves out there and filled out an application after losing our dog in a horrific, traumatizing accident a few years ago. Just to be treated this way is really disheartening and now we're afraid to even try and reach out to other shelters. I may use a fake name on here, but I'm sure they know exactly who we are. I'm assuming they don't tell many families with kids that they're "not ready" and shouldn't have a dog. Or maybe they do, I wouldn't be surprised about that either. They are clearly not THAT interested in providing homes to their dogs so they can go save more, because there was quite literally no reason for us to have been rejected. If you don't fit their EXACT standards, don't even waste your time. We are just so disappointed. 0 stars if I could.

Boxers are high energy, lovable clowns! We contacted a couple of rescue groups, but I found that working with Boxer Buddies was wonderful. I gave Penny information about us and our experience with dogs and she suggested some dogs that might be right for our family. One of the dogs she suggested was Dempsey, a 3 year old deaf girl. I had never had a deaf dog and neither had my husband, but considering that we have both had a lot of dogs in the past and a lot of luck training, Penny thought it might be a good fit. Penny set up a time for us to meet the owners of other deaf dogs to learn about living with with and training them. After a home inspection we finally got to meet Dempsey and we fell in love. She is so funny and sweet! We have had her 2 years and are so happy with her! Boxer Buddies does not have a shelter, all dogs waiting to be adopted live with families and other dogs. This means that they really know that dog before giving it to someone. We knew the ins and outs of Dempsey's behavior (she doesn't like other female dogs, she likes cats, hates the mop) before we even met her. BB also go to shelters to rescue boxers! I can't recommend BB enough! If you are a boxer lover, it is the best place to adopt!

When we decided to expand our family and adopt another rescue, a small southern mix breed with extreme fear, we didn't hesitate to book with Kristen for Basic Obedience. Kristen took the time and demonstrated her vast knowledge in dog training by helping us work with our new rescue, Jenny, using alternate methods that help her overcome her fear. By the 6th week, Kristen was able to use Jenny as a demonstration "student" in front of the class. We are so proud of the progress we've made with Jenny, all thanks to the training Kristen has given us! She truly cares about every dog and dog owner she encounters and we will continue to recommend her training classes to all dog owners, new and old!

The manager refunded me and I clearly explained, in front of an employee, that I would buy the same kit elsewhere and return to purchase the gecko for my daughter's Christmas gift. That plan was acknowledged. When I returned, the same employee reported to a different manager that my tank was purchased elsewhere and was 10 gallons. Suddenly, they refused to sell me the gecko unless I bought a 20+ gallon tank from their store. This felt like forced upselling, not animal welfare. What makes this worse is the gecko has been kept in the store for at least six months in a 10-gallon enclosure. Another nearby tank of the same size had two geckos. If this setup is unacceptable for customers, why is it acceptable for the store? My daughter cried, I felt humiliated, and I wasted time and money after acting transparently and responsibly. I am a former biologist with animal training and the daughter of a zoologist. Being treated as incapable was offensive and unnecessary. This store showed more concern about selling a tank than placing an animal into a prepared, calm, loving home. Milford deserves better transparency, consistency, and professionalism

Great place, super friendly folks, helped me get the right chicken feed for the current situation of my hens.
