After taking my baby boy to petsmart for his first grooming, nail trimming, bath, etc... the result we got from there was rather disappointing. Then we got referred to this groomer and wow what a drastic change of the quality of work our boy got from here. He is a big pyrenee so he would shed like crazy. Whenever we get him back after the treatment we always notice the difference. That alone would be worth every penny we gave them. Oh and they bath him well every time he's there so he would smell like fresh soap when we get him back. Sometimes when we can't immediately pick him up, Tracy would even let him play with her dog to kill his boredom and of course my boy always return happily . I wonder if they have changed owners because their service has gone into the toilet lately. Since we've been going here they've always had a policy that you could bring your dog in before noon without an appointment for a bath. So I brought my dogs in at 10am, like we have several times before, and the first girl sitting at the desk never looked up from her cell phone. Then another girl came out and asked if I had an appointment. I said no but I've always brought my dogs in before noon per their policy. She got very rude and said they've never had a policy like that. She had the customer service skills of a honey badger. Fine. I'll take my dogs and my money elsewhere. Got a decent grooming for my dogs. A little pricey but what isn't these days. This is a bad review for what happened after I picked up my dogs. They forget to put their collars back on. I called after I got home. They finally called back 2 hours later and confirmed they had the collars. The sign on the front door says their hours are until 5:30. They called at 4:30 and said they would be closing in 30 minutes. I dropped what I was doing and hurried down to get the collars. I got there at 4:55, 25 minutes after they called me. They were closed and gone. I had to go back the next morning. The next morning, they were completely unapologetic and blamed me for not checking to make sure the dogs had their collars when I picked them up. They also said the sign on the door listing their hours was from the previous owner and they didn't follow those hours. Good groomers...maybe. I brought my full bred Maltese, Luca, in one day on a total last minute, "could they fit him in for a grooming? " Now, if you know Georgetown everybody in Georgetown has a dog that needs to be groomed and groomers are booked all the time. I had an appointment with my groomer but she didn't show up I was sitting there and she didn't come to work it was a misunderstanding and my little one needed a bath so bad he looked homeless! Anything over five days in a little white dog is looking terrible. I think he didn't have a bath for like two weeks and it was not good plus he had a couple of mats going on in his hair he just looked terrible. When I got there I talk to the owner, Tracey. She's the new owner is past year I didn't even know that it was sold to a new owner. Last, I went in there and I was desperate and she fit him in! I was so so happy. I even had to warn her that Luke is really sensitive with his feet and sometimes he fights only with the groomers of his feet I don't know what the deal is but I just tell on my muzzle you have to because I don't want him to find anybody. Anyways, Luca love Tracey. Turns out she didn't even muzzle him brave brave lady she is! When I got there he looks so good and he was so happy! He smelled good his mats were gone yet a nice haircut. His nails were filed his teeth are clean here at the Works. She already took him out to potty. He was all taken care of the prices were not bad they were just they were competitive just like everybody else as they should be. I was just so so happy that Luca wasn't distressed or how crazy and anxious he was happy and clean and so handsome and she put the cutest little boat earth on the Tyanna and she like tight on him he was adorable. It really made me happy and he liked her so much and that tells me a whole lot how she was handling him. So thank you Tracy for taking such good care of my baby and since then I've been back like four times and she is the nicest lady I want her to be very successful in business because she deserves to be because she is great at what she does. I've been looking for a cat groomer for several months and while I spoke with a lot of people who seemed nice and were likely good at what they do, I finally chose to go here after talking to Heather. Part of it was location, part of it was reasonable fees, part of it was they wouldn't require my cat get a bath, part of it was talking to Heather. My cat, Miss Emily, "has attitude" as Heather so politely put it. While Emily isn't a terror, she is *very* opinionated about how, when and who touches her. I've never had a cat that needed help with her grooming before, but Emily has arthritis in her hips, shoulders, neck and middle back, and she was a stray before I got her, so was pregnant several times, and is round with a very short, compact body. All this together means she can't groom herself well, and while I appreciate how patient Miss Emily's been with my learning how to groom her, she won't let me do everything she needs. I needed someone to groom her chest and belly and esp get in the joints between her legs and torso. Heather obviously does care about the welfare of the animals who come to her, "I see she pooed in the carrier," "Yes *sigh* I know," but wasn't hysterical about this pet parent's inability to bring Emily in all cleaned up (I pulled over twice to clean her crate before we got there and she had another accident in the last 5 minutes of the drive! jeesh!) lol Heather was also sympathetic to my concerns that she treat my Miss Emily carefully, and let me watch her groom her, which also allowed me to learn a trick or two. Heather was extremely calm, but authoritative with my cat, and had her fur, nails, and tufts between her pads trimmed in just a few minutes. As I watched Heather and saw how utterly calm and relaxed Emily was, I recalled all the yowling and hissing I've heard from Miss Emily when the vet tech have trimmed her paws for me. What a huge difference! Of course, giving my girl 1/4 Xanax before the trip may have helped, but Heather seemed to think it wasn't necessary and encouraged me to bring her in next time without sedation. How's that for confidence? lol I'm grateful to Heather for a teaching me a new scruffing technique that's working quite well, as Emily and I come to new agreements about what I can do to help her maintain her coat. We'll be back in the Spring when Emily starts getting burs in her fur from I-have-no-idea-where and renews her favorite past time of rolling in the dirt. read more

I am SO glad to have found Paws for Effect! From the moment I called, Tracy was super helpful and caring. We found a stray dog and I explained how we wanted to get him groomed since the poor thing was so matted. She assured me that he would be in good hands. When I picked him up, he looked perfectly groomed. On top of that, he seemed so happy to have been cared for so well as his first grooming experience ever. This place is beyond terrible since they changed names or owners. Its dirty and smells. And It is now way over priced. The charges increase with every visit. When I complained about it she said doodles start at $110 so I should be happy I'm getting such a deal! They do not notify you of the increases they just expect more when you pay. They do not except credit cards which is a huge inconvenience! The last 3 visits my dog had bad hair cuts. Instead of a teddy bear face he has a rectangular shape . They even cut off his long eye lashes even through i asked them not to. On a recent visit they charged me extra because my dog had mats but they refused to groom his tail because it was matted. Why am i paying extra??? The girl at the front is rude and unprofessional. But to top it all off my last grooming appointment was at 9:00 and they never finished him...i finally told them I'm done waiting and to bring my dog out at 5:45. He was there for almost 9 hrs, he had no matts. They had a staffing issue. If they would have told me at 9:00 that he wasn't going to be done until after 6:00 then i could have rescheduled. Then she yelled at me when i refused to pay. Why should i pay for torturing my dog all day without finishing his haircut??? DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO PAWS FOR EFFECT i have used them along time but under new management and I will explain I took my dog in 2-2019 and just took him back because he was limping did not do paws right. I called them and they said to bring him and fix it. I had already paid his grooming in Feb. They were very rude. I ask very nicely why I had to pay again and She said I was a walk-in trying to get it free and yelled at me to pay $10.82 and I asked again and she told me to get out of her store and not bring my dog back. I went ahead and paid the $10.82 and told her I would not be back. We have a cat that gets clumps of hair that we can't get out with a brush even with regular brushing. The clumps get close to the skin and other places said they'd have to sedate her before trimming. Not this place! They do a great job. Highly recommended. read more

Very disappointed with service. Took days to be called back for an appointment, but scheduled because last groomer closed business without notice & ratings here were so good. Arrived early as asked to discuss grooming preferences. Staff didn't bother to greet us or even make eye contact for nearly 10 minutes. Almost another 10 mins later owner came out & said it was busy because everyone was dropping in last minute. I clarified i'd made an appointment & offered to reschedule because i needed my pup finished at a certain time due to my work schedule. This was also discusses when making the appointment. Received a call 15mins before i was supposed to pick her up saying she wouldn't be ready essentially stating she could not be completed unless i could wait another 30mins. I again shared this was previously discussed & promised but that it seemed i did not have a choice. Owner proceeded to eat her food instead of fetching my pup & in lieu of an apology only made excuses as to how busy they were. Did not seem to care about me or my pet. Not entirely pleased with the groom. In general staff seemed indifferent or not pleased to be there. For a business that has allegedly been in business for 16 years, building & set up appears shotty, customer service was pretty much none, & quality of service was only mediocre. Only professional groomer I've met who didn't greet my pup or give me a report on her experience. Needless to say we will not return & want others to look beyond the other 5 star ratings. read more

I discovered Paws for Effect over 10 years ago when I took my Persian cat to Petsmart to get groomed. I was called to come pick up my cat who was only half shaved. He had bitten the groomer and was left looking ridiculous and the groomer had to go to the ER. I understood that they couldn't continue grooming a cat they couldn't control and I didn't know what to do. I felt terrible about what happened to the other groomer and was reluctant to take him somewhere else. I had very recently moved to Georgetown and I didn't know anyone or any of the local places. I lived near Paws for Effect and called them, hoping they groomed cats, which it turned out they did! Feeling very relieved, I took my cat in there and explained he had bitten the groomer at Petsmart. They explained they were experienced with cats and would use 2 groomers to keep the cat from biting. They did a great job with my cat and he returned home looking fabulous. After that great experience, we started taking our terrier there regularly over the last 10 years. He is now very old and suffers from arthritis, bad knees, and a neck issue, so he has to be groomed with care. He has always come home happy, looking beautiful, and without any issues physically, which is not easy with all of his ailments. We rescued another terrier who gets very grouchy if you try to brush her or touch places she deems off limits. I took her to Paws for Effect 2 years ago and warned them that she can be grouchy. They have been grooming her regularly ever since and she never gives them any trouble. I have been amazed at their ability to develop a rapport with our pets. Our terriers get a warm greeting every time they go there and the staff always remember them. They take good care of our pets when they are there. I absolutely love this place. They have groomed many of our pets (cats and dogs) over the years, most of which are not with us anymore, unfortunately. I feel their prices are very reasonable. They only accept checks or cash, so that threw me off a few times because I forgot to bring my checkbook. I highly recommend this place. They are awesome. read more

Great staff, very friendly and professional. Only take my dogs here for their nail clippings. My dogs won't let me do it, but they let the groomers here do it with very little struggle. I have not used them for grooming, as my doggies all have short hair, but from the looks of the other pups in the back, they were doing a great job. They are very affordable and do accept walk-ins, which is definitely a win-win any way you look at it. read more

Paws for effect hurt my little dog and was informed of the injury she had on her leg to be so careful but when we picked her up she was limping horribly. They called me and said they where sorry so we tried again and a huge mistake ,our dog can only do 2 1/2 hours and they where told and they said when we brought her in that they where behind and it would be at least 3 hours before they could take her, seeing we already told them all this on our requirements and they agreed , we drove 1/2 hour to get there and said why did you not call and the owner got in my face and she asked us to leave because she was having a bad day we asked her when we could come back to accommodate her but she blew up and I said no wonder my dog bite her when she hurt her leg not someone I would bring my do to EVER AGAIN.
