Dr. Dunne was an absolute godsend. We did not expect what happened to our beloved Anthony. I have severe anxiety and depression so the thought of my baby having to be carried into a place he hated to move on was about as gutwrencthing as losing him. Without going into big detail, her flexibility and genuine compassion were more touching than words can say. We got to enjoy and love on our precious little guy. When she arrived we also got to see our little head of house security in action one more time. He had lost ability to stand up after a stroke during the night, at 15, 6 weeks after the scariest seizure I've seen. He propped himself up and barked with all he had(it was a weaker higher bark) but he made it clear he was the protector. She was so wonderful about it too. She put us at ease, was so patient despite the hour, and made one who has a very hard time showing emotion, comfortable when I broke down after he passed, I left the room when could not hold baxck tears on his last day, so he read only love and happy in me, as much as I could. She explained the proccess so well, and really made us at ease with it, as much as you can. Throughout it she stopped at each step to be sure we were ready, never rushing. My precious puppy got to move on eating cheese from his papa and looking into eyes that loved him as he was being held. I could not have asked for anything more for him, aside from him still here. When i rescued him he would only eat from my hand for months, and his last meal and favorite treat were from my hand, and Dr Dunne is to thank for that She even let me help carry my best friend out, which was so important to me. The last thing I'll say, i could go on and on, is that the fur she clipped and left and the pawprint were helpful today so much. She was a positive in a dark day for us. Dr. Dunne helped our beloved 13 year old Rhodesian ridgeback-boxer-coonhound mix pass peacefully at home. I don't even know where to begin. We made the difficult decision to put our 12 year old Black Lab, Bella, down. I knew I did not want to go to a clinic; I wanted her here in our living room, where she always laid, with a fire in the fireplace and soft music in the background. I wanted it to be calm, peaceful and respectful...that is what I ideally envisioned. Dr. Dunne was recommended by my neighbor and when I called her to schedule the appointment, she patiently listened as I regaled her with stories of Bella and voiced my concerns and anxiety about letting her go. I'm sure she has heard it all before but she was patient and gentle on the phone. When she arrived that morning, she sat on the living room floor with Bella and our 3 year old chocolate Lab, Phoebe. We talked for awhile until the girls settled down. Bella laid down right in front of Dr. Dunne and she explained exactly what would happen step by step. She even told us how Phoebe would react when Bella's spirit left her body and she was spot on. She did not rush us; she waited for our signal and encouraged us to love on her as long as we wished. After Bella passed, she pressed her paw into a clay heart she had brought with her and pressed her name letter by letter at the bottom of the heart. Three days later we received condolence card from Dr. Dunne. In it she relayed all the stories we had told her about Bella that afternoon along with The Rainbow Bridge story. It has been just over 24 hours since I met Dr. Dunne for the first time under such unfortunate circumstances. She is an amazing person, and a compassionate veterinarian. I wish I'd gotten her number a couple of weeks sooner, but the fact that I got it at all feels like divine intervention. I had been working with another pet hospice group leading up to this, and while I was mostly satisfied, I had a couple of small things that just didn't feel like the best fit. When it came time to say goodbye to Ruby, the vet I had been working with couldn't come do the in-home euthanasia on the date I needed him to come. I did not want my girl to be in pain for even a minute, so he referred me to Dr. Dunne and Paws in Your Heart. I emailed Dr. Dunne very early in the morning on the day I knew I needed her to be here. She responded very quickly, and followed up with a phone call at a more appropriate hour. We set a time for her to come, and when she got stuck in traffic and closed roads, she called to let me know she was going to be a few minutes late. When she did arrive, I just knew right away that everything was going to be okay. Ruby didn't growl or bark or act in any way like Dr. Dunne didn't belong there. She was half pitbull, and very protective of her home and her person (me). She sniffed Dr. Dunne and looked over the things she brought inside with her, but she never barked or growled or acted in any way like she wasn't welcome. Ruby trusted her immediately. That gave me so much comfort. My daughter, Dr. Dunne, and I petted Ruby on the floor while Dr. Dunne explained everything that was going to take place. She told me she wouldn't move forward with anything until I gave her verbal confirmation that I was ready. Her voice is so completely soothing. She keeps eye contact with you the whole time she's talking to you, and her gentle touch is both appropriate and calming. This was one of the saddest days of my life. Dr. Dunne made it easier to cope with this necessary procedure. An event that could have been traumatic and clinical and full of anxiety, instead felt natural and loving. From the moment she walked into my home to the moment she carried my beloved pet out the door, I felt in complete control. She gave me the time I needed and the respect this whole event deserved. I'm so grateful this kind of service exists. I wish I'd known about Paws in Your Heart and Dr. Dunne from the moment Ruby was diagnosed with cancer. Unfortunately I didn't find her early on. But if you're early in your search and need someone to walk you through the final months, weeks, or days of your care, or you need help saying goodbye in a meaningful and humane way, you and your pet deserve the best. Dr. Dunne made this impossibly hard decision so much easier on my entire family. Our little pup Rory had a strong but short battle with PLE and we knew it was her time to go. We called her on Sunday to schedule her to come Monday evening, but after an entire night of our little dog groaning and going to the bathroom on herself we knew this wasn't fair to her. We called Dr. Dunne at 8AM to see if she could come earlier and she was at our house by 9:30. She was so sweet to Rory when she came in and was so sympathetic to us. She explained everything she was doing before she did it, what to expect and let us take as long as we needed between every step. She listened while we told stories of our pup and even wrapped her in a snowflake-patterned sheet after we told her how much Rory loved the snow. I've personally never had to go through this before but having this experience happen in our home, where us and our dog were all comfortable made it so much more peaceful than I expected it to be. I would not have given this place a 1/2 star in the review! I am appalled and disgusted with this vet. They ought to be closed down!!! My dog Scout was in rough shape as ailments he had been treated for over an 18 month period had finally caught up to him. I knew that time was short and I had a plan. I had contacted a home pet hospice vet to euthanize him at home when that time came. As a back up plan I made arrangements with the emergency vet hospital on Genesee Street in Cheektowaga. I thought I had all my ducks in a row. When that time came late in the afternoon on Memorial Day I reached out to the pet hospice vet (Paws in your Heart) who refused to answer the phone which is completely unprofessional. In prior discussions all she wanted to do was schedule his euthanasia. "What day works for you". News flash- saying goodbye to your best friend is not something you schedule. I enacted my back up plan and called the hospital on Genesee (Veterinary Emergency Clinic) as instructed. They told me not to come there as they were too busy and refused to see him although he was a prior patient. Now I was in a pickle! I called Northtowns Vet Emergency and they said bring him on in. Northtowns charged me twice the going rate and 4 times as much as the vet 1/2 mile down the road. When I did receive his ashes I was suspect so I did some research on weights of ashes after cremation and for the size of dog Scout was the ashes weigh over twice as much as they should. I paid for a private cremation and either ended up with someone else's dog or for a group cremation. It makes me sick to my stomach. They are all culpable as they have stolen him from me in his final days. Too bad these places are not inspected and scrutinized better. This place is one of the worst vets- unprofessional. I have been to some real scumbags- ie. Northtowns Vet Emergency, Harris Hill Animal Hospital, Veterinary Emergency Clinic- Genesee Street, True Care Vet Clarence. I think they all ought to be shut down for malpractice or exploitation. read more
