DO NOT BOARD YOUR DOG AT PAWS INN THE WOODS, GRAFTON OHIO My dog died because of the carelessness and complacency of the kennel staff at Paws Inn the Woods. My retired working dog has been boarded periodically at this kennel for years. He was never allowed to have blankets or toys in the kennel for his safety. This past stay, they put not one but multiple blankets in his kennel and admitted to having zero accountability of blankets or toys in general. They do not pay attention to how many blankets they put in and certainly do not pay attention if any become missing. Not even two days after having him home, I noticed he wasn't acting normal. He was trying to vomit and was struggling to poop. We took him to the Vet immediately, where they found he had a serious obstruction in his digestive tract. They performed emergency surgery and removed the material, which ended up being nearly a whole quilted blanket. Tragically, he ended up dying shortly after surgery due to the severity of the surgery's impact on his system. This was a healthy 8 year old GSD living out his retirement after years of service to this country which was tragically cut short due to a completely preventable incident. When I spoke to the owner of the kennel, she told me three things that broke our hearts even more. 1. She insisted this kind of thing has never happened before at her kennel. Which, after many years of working in pet and working dog kennels and professionally handling and training dogs, I know is not true. Dogs eating things is a very common thing in a kennel environment, which is why it is so important that the staff monitor and keep accountability of exactly what is put in each dog's kennel, if anything. 2. She said she had no idea how or when it happened. When I spoke to the kennel staff, they were immediately defensive and straight up told me they put not one, but multiple blankets in the kennel and had no idea one was missing because they don't count them. They said they don't have time for that. 3. The worst thing the owner told me was that she had no intentions of changing the way she ran her kennel and said she wouldn't lie to me and say she would, just to make us feel better. She was unbelievably unempathetic and offered us nothing in the way of an apology or anything. It is also important to note that while I had this conversation with the owner at the kennel just days after the loss of our dog, I witnessed another dog in an outside run tearing apart the stuffed dog bed that was in the kennel with him. When I pointed it out to her, she said "Oh he does that all the time, he doesn't eat it." She did NOTHING to stop the incident as I literally witnessed the dog pull mouthful after mouthful of stuffing out. For the safety and well-being of your beloved dog, I strongly discourage using this facility to board your pet. The owner and two staff members are lazy, and complacent. Keeping track of what goes in each kennel and making sure it comes out should be a priority at every kennel, among other important things that keep the dogs healthy and safe. For my dog, that lack of attention to detail cost him his life. I am speaking out to hopefully save other dogs from the same fate. read more

We found our rescue dog here in 2011 and adopted him. We brought him back many times over the years and he was treated with TLC. He was never stressed out. You can arrange for grooming and nail trims while boarding too. The staff is experienced and enthusiastic with the animals. There is plenty of room for dogs to run and play. We called ahead and made arrangements for our puppy to be boarded for the weekend and were told Friday was all good and made no mention of any drop off times. We show up Friday about 10 minutes after 12 to a locked and empty office with a sign on the door to call for times other than 9-12 and someone would assist us. No one was there and no one would answer any of our calls. We stood there with two screaming children in the car, trying to get on the road with a 4 hour drive ahead of us with no idea of what to do with our puppy. Luckily Forever Friends on 303 in Grafton came to the rescue. Very poor customer service as far as I am concerned. We've been bringing our beloved dog here for about 2 years and would not go anywhere else! The independent, on-site groomer is FABULOUS! Here is my review from Angie's List: Our dog has stayed at Paws Inn numerous times during the last 2 years from 2-16 days. I found Paws Inn after becoming tremendously dissatisfied (even angry) w other local boarding services. Paws Inn puts the pet first. What is described on their website is the actual quality of their services. These are some of the reasons Paws Inn is the only place we will leave our 4 legged friend: 1. The owner is on location and actively involved in the day to day running and management. 2. There is a regular staff that seem equally committed to experience of the pets and the satisfaction of the owners. The staff seem genuinely happy at work. 3. Their business IS boarding - boarding isn't an "add-on". 4. Pick-up and drop-off 7 days a week, including holidays, in the mornings and evenings. 5. WIDE OPEN SPACE - fresh air and exercise. This isn't about a limited # of 10 minute potty breaks. The dogs have access to open spaces largely at their own discretion. 6. They accommodate their visitors. Our dog doesn't have any special need, but I've seen on numerous occasions how other boarders are accommodated, and I have been very impressed. Two additional experiences cemented our impression of Paws Inn: a) Due to a family emergency, we had to leave town on short notice. I left a message at night and showed up the next morning. Amidst chaos, I felt just a little calmer knowing I didn't have to worry about arrangements for my dog. When I arrived, they said "Don't worry. We'll take care of him. You take care of you." And, I knew they meant it. b) The last time we dropped our dog off, he greeted one of the staff members in a way I have only seen him use for "his people", our family. He was elated to see this particular staff member and his whole body showed his joy. Paws Inn is a home away from home for our dog. They take pride in what they do and how they do it. read more
