Over the years they have helped find fosters and taken cats/kittens when I find friendlies doing TNR (trap, neuter return). I trust them to vet the people adopting those I have rescued from the streets to be going to a safe, loving home. My focus is TNR; I can't get slowed down micromanaging fosters and adoptions otherwise the "kitten season" will take over...I consider RRR a part of my network/team. It takes each of us to make a difference for all of us. As a rescuer it can be emotionally draining this place and these volunteers are a beautiful way to feel recharged.

Interactions involving Danielle Mania and Mike Salmond left me deeply concerned about whether animal placements were being handled thoughtfully and with true consideration for safe, appropriate homes. Transparency and accountability were noticeably lacking. While Bob Berenbach and Jerry Rosenthal may not have been directly involved, they absolutely need to be aware of how situations like this are being handled, as it reflects poorly on the organization's leadership and mission. Based on my experience, I would urge caution when working with this shelter.

A classic case of people claiming to care about animals but not doing what's necessary to care for…read morethem. My biggest problem is that you can never see the animals available for adoption without going in person... their in person hours are almost comically limited especially for anyone who works regular 9-5 hours. They are not on Petfinder. Their website says to look on Facebook for adoptable animals. But their Facebook page does not have any sort of aggregated list of adoptable animals... you have to sift through dozens of posts of the head of the shelter's PERSONAL DOGS to find any posts about any animal available for adoption. Absolutely ridiculous. The posts are only sometimes updated when the pet is adopted. I've also been told that their adoption fee typically does not include a spay/neuter or voucher. Really???? How incredibly irresponsible. They also do not have the appropriate resources to vet their animals. They do not even keep subcutaneous fluids or basic dewormers/antibiotics on hand... if you've ever worked in rescue, you know how insane and ridiculous that is. No wonder the fee is so inflated if every little thing sends an animal to the vet's office??? They are not knowledgeable about cat health specifically. I have heard on multiple occasions the HEAD of this shelter refer to a SNAP test as being for FIV & FIP. Seriously?? They also routinely take kittens away from their mom, claim they "can't trap mom", and try to find someone to bottle feed... everyone knows that removing kittens from mom is a last resort at best as their survival rate goes way down as bottle babies. Speaking of which... they advise that you can feed PUPPY FORMULA to a small kitten... a BASIC Google search will confirm that this is NOT true & should be intuitive considering the vast differences between the diets & digestive systems of cats & dogs. They're VERY dog focused and do not provide appropriate care to their cats. Also, they lie. I was once told that someone is there all the time, then I was told that no one is there after 3pm. What?? How do you leave animals in cages from 3pm until the next morning???? Their response was they have cameras to see if any of the animals are in distress. The head of this shelter also drives a luxury car and claims that she works at the shelter 7 days a week. I don't understand how someone working full time in rescue could afford such things. What a disappointment. Don't give them your money- adopt from a local RESCUE group instead where they actually properly care for their animals & will NEVER send a pet out without fully vetting them.

She had been surrendered to a high kill shelter and rescued by start II from there , so I knew that was already her name. She's been with about a year now and had fit in perfectly with my other rescues. This rescue is my go too, number one without question. Thank you to all the volunteers, your hard work does not go unnoticed!!!! The blond next to her only came here, because he had terrible anxiety issues and he is so perfect now. The room they used the adopt out of in the Petsmart in Wayne got shut down by the board of health because the conditions were so bad. She has been supporting a cat hoarder for years and years who has more than 50 cats in her tiny apt . We absolutely loved the staff there...every member has such a passion for each and every one of the animals they bring in there. They do their best to take their time to find out all of the dogs and cats personality's and characteristics which helps the pet and their new owner adjust to their new lives together. We wound up adopting an amazing 6 year old Pitbull Terrier named Ray-Ray. The paperwork for the adoption was not overwhelming and the adoption fee was $250- a small price to pay for unconditional love! The day we bright him home- they provided us a collar, leash and a bag filled with food treats and toys to help us get started! They also provided us with the necessary paperwork and tags for proof of check-ups and shots. For those who need this information- surrender fees are $65..which is also a small price to pay if for whatever reason you need to surrender your pet- and at least if you bring them here, they will not be killed and the staff will do their best to find them their new forever home.

Don't adopt a cat from FERAL CATS OF BERGEN COUNTY…read more We adopted a cat back in April who was living with a foster, after weekly check-ins to see when I will be receiving my cat, the owner Michele finally told me that the cat had run away from the fosters home. Not only was I and my daughter devastated over this news, weeks have been wasted waiting for a cat who would never be coming to us. Michele offered us another cat, who I could pick up right away. I made plans to surprise my daughter with this cat. I brought her home and my daughter loved her even though the cat was very shy and loved to hide. The next day the cat was in a new hiding spot that I was easily able to find. But later that day, I came home to find the window wide open since my husband was changing out the ACs. I was worried that the cat had gotten out since I couldn't find her anywhere. We checked out cameras and the neighbors across the street- their camera which shows our side of the house was offline and didn't catch anything. Our cameras only catch the front and backyard and we didn't see any movement. From 6pm until midnight we tore our home APART looking for this cat. In between that time we called the police to make a missing animal report, we posted on Ring (reposted on Facebook with a blurry photo since I couldn't get a good photo of her previously) we called animal control and the shelter. Also we did not put traps outside because it is ILLEGAL to do so in my town. According to police, they set up traps and have their own system. At midnight we put out food, treats and catnip all around the house to see if it was possible the cat was still inside. In the morning nothing was touched. It was at that moment my husband decided to call Michele and tell her that the cat must have gotten out- well.... That conversation immediately turned badly. Michele was rude to my husband, yelled at him and demanded $1,000. Even though the contract CLEARLY states that you only owe $1,000 if you are found abusing the animal and you don't willingly surrender the cat. Later on that evening Michele shows up to my home, without my consent, is shown on my property for 40 minutes. I caught the entire thing on my Ring camera. I was not home at the time since it was Mothers Day- I had plans with my own mother. I file a report with the police, show them the video and they told me that I have to tell her that the police are now involved and if she comes back she will be arrested for Trespassing. We winded up finding the cat and returning her but this woman refuses to give me back my money and is operating a shady business.
