This place, in Old Town Arvada, has a little bit of everything a pet owner could want. The staff and owner are genuinely glad to see you and your fur buddies. I always leave here with a bag of goodies. This usually includes samples of several dog foods that my dogs always enjoy trying out. Mine have always been big on variety and get very excited to see a taste of goat, kangaroo, or pumpkin hit the bowl. If you are out walking in Old Town, or heading down for a meal or the Farmer's Market, this a great place to add to your journey. Once the light rail station opens in near future, just across the street, I expect a significant uptick in foot traffic will occur. Yep, the nice folks here can maybe seem a touch judgy if you tell them you are currently feeding your pet a cheap and not especially healthy food (I dare you to say, "I only feed Old Roy from Wal-Mart"). But, this is not so much about questioning your life choices, as opening you up to the much better options out there. They are extremely knowledgeable when it come to pet nutrition, and you should be prepared to drink from the information fire-hose when it comes to learning about good old dog food.

One of my favorite stops in Old Town Arvada. I can usually find some special treats for my fur babies whenever I am in town.

Pretty Eyes, (my service dog) and I have been to several Pet Supply stores and my preference thus far is Wheat Ridge, off of Wadsworth. Immediately we are greeted with smiles and how can we help. BATH PLEASE for my dog, to be clear. They hand us a bucket, ask if we prefer 3 towels, OH YES! Fortunately we have our own brushes, for all too many other patrons have taken off with what was offered for years. No Problem and off we go. Pretty Eyes is READY to get CLEANED with special shampoos and conditioners. The on duty gentleman scurried towards the back to clean the plethora of previous customers, while stating, they have been inundated with Doggy Washes this day. NO Problem for a few moment wait. I unleash my Service dog and open the gate, she is off to her favorite side, jumps in and waits. I must mention, the water hose is "Very Durable" a bit stiff in operating, although they are generous in offering aprons, expect to get a bit wet and be prepare in managing the volume first before starting the wash including your choices of shampoo/conditioners. Yet, the choices are wonderful, from Oatmeal shampoo to shampoo/conditioner in same bottle and more! Ready to towel off! They do have a LONG hose for drying, it is a pitched sound, your dog may or may not care for, HAVE YOUR TOWELS READY! This is a fun time, and NO RUSH. Their set up "A Bucket" for all the fur no longer needed, a place to toss your wet towels and leave your bucket or return the bucket to the front desk. GREAT SERVICE. There is also an extra pricing if you choose; either $14.00 per visit or if one pays up front $40.00/each bath will cost $8.00 Have fun!

All of their animals appear to be very well taken care of and the clerks all are extremely helpful with answering any questions. I was debating which type of materials to buy for my enclose and managed to grab substrate for a 40 gallon tank, feeding tongs, large hiding rock, heating pad for 40 gallon tank, and long piece of bark for the snake to relax on for bit over $110 dollars. Which for everything was not bad. Even more so because I had a bit of substrate left over which I like. The prices here are very good and the feed prices are also perfect. You cant complain for 2.15-2.49 a mouse. They had a lot of knowledge on all of the reptiles there and especially the snakes. They got the ones I was looking at out to see if I would be happy with them and one I really am. I am thinking of grabbing her this weekend. The prices for their snakes at least are normal range with lowest ones I believe where around 80 and highest I saw was 200. It depends on the species and markings honestly. Either way very accurate pricing. They also have different locations as well. Also you can call ahead and they will tell you if they have what you are looking for in or not so just call if you are looking for a very specific reptile. They apprently can also order for you.

I have had the worst experiences with Wardle's and just want to warn others…read more In June 2024, as a brand new chicken owners, I bought 3 Rhode Island Red hens from them. I was not able to go into the coop with the sales associate so he just went in, grabbed whatever three hens he could get and put them in my carrier. When I got home and took them out, I noticed one could barely walk. I tried to give her some rescue 911 electrolytes in her water and access to food thinking maybe getting scooped up and put in a box and then being in a car for 15 minutes was a stress on her nervous system and she just needed some time to acclimate. I called Wardle's to tell them what happened and asked if I could switch her for another hen. The manager told me no because she could be sick... even though that meant they had just sold me a sick chicken. She struggled for weeks. We had to keep her in a separate coop and spent countless dollars on a ton of different supplements trying to figure out what was wrong with her and to keep her alive. Finally we tried Vitamin B12 and after a few days of it in her water, she able to walk normally. Although she was always a pretty sickly chicken and not even a year later we found her dead in the coop one morning (no sign of attack or any injuries). Fast forward to September of 2025. We wanted to get a few chicks to raise and integrate with our flock. Against my better judgement, we went back to Wardle's to get chicks. They only had 4 week olds and again, we weren't allowed in the room where the brooders were to pick the ones we wanted so we just told the associate how many and which breeds. We got 3 gold laced Wyandottes, a Rhode Island Red and a Barred Rock. I looked in the box and noticed one of the hens had a pretty big comb. I asked if that was normal because we definitely didn't want a rooster. They assured me it was a hen. 3 months later, our "hen" has started crowing. We can't have roosters in Lakewood so now we have to find someone to take him or cull him. It breaks my heart. Of note, since then we have ordered chicks from McMurray and Meyer's Hatchery and had really healthy, beautiful, hens. Not a single rooster. I would highly recommend ordering from a hatchery over buying any chickens from Wardle's!

Planet Pethood is a nice little pet food store at 43rd & Tennyson, right next door to Wine Jesters…read more(the new little wine shop in the neighborhood). The store has various brands and types of pet food, treats, and toys. She also has a few adoptable cats and dogs that were obviously given up by their uncaring people parents. The owner is a vet tech and a vegetarian, and she seems to care deeply about animals. The shop is not as big or as fancy as Mouthfuls pet boutique down the street but it carries the dog food we buy. Nature's Variety is a great natural dry dog food. Our dog loves all the flavors... and while it is more expensive than grocery store dog food, because the food has less cheap "fillers", dogs actually eat less than they would of other "cheaper" brands. So, the price is actually only slightly more more expensive when you factor in the whole bag lasts longer than the same size of cheaper brands. http://www.naturesvariety.com/ 4 1/2 stars because she cares about the animals!

You can view animals available for adoption- usually cats or small dogs- every day during store hours. The store owner describes Planet Pethood as, "a politically correct pet store." I can't justify giving any less than four stars to a cute shoppette that combines support for pet adoption and rescue with a fairly nice selection of foods, treats, toys, leashes, and everything you need for your dog or cat; and Planet Pethood fully deserves the four stars it's getting. I do, however, have some minor gripes. For starters, both the store itself and the website are unclear on exactly what Planet Pethood's involvement with Planned Pethood, the low-cost vet down the street, is. Nowhere can I find an actual percentage donated to a specific organization, and as a rescue person that sets off a serious case of nerves. The website describes the store owner as having her own rescue- but where is the name, the 501(c)3 status, the official website? Also many of the links point to Planned Pethood, but nowhere does the store owner declare an official affiliation. My spidey senses would be beeping if it weren't for the clear support of rescues via adoptable animals in store. I'd love to know if this store donates its profits, and if so, what percentage and TO WHOM; also, how closely, exactly, it is related to Planned Pethood. Second, I have a few snipes to take at the dog food selection. Canidae and Timber Wolf are excellent choices, but where is Innova Evo? I wanted a bag of Innova Evo Red Meat, but left empty handed because it doesn't appear to be on the shelves. And Avo Derm? It uses ground corn in several formulas- NOT exactly up to my pet food standards. Breeder's Choice is similarly well packaged but lacking in actual quality. However, for the slightly less picky than myself, Planet Pethood seems to be a nice pet supply store with many good choices and a true desire to support rescue and adoption.
