She cares so much for animals and the way they are treated and trained. She focuses on positive reinforcement and is thoughtful in how she responds and interacts with dogs. She helped us counteract some of our puppies negative behaviors with replacing them with more acceptable behaviors. Both of our Labradoodles have also stayed with Melanie for Board and Train (multiple times). Each time our pups returned they were calm and ready to show off their new skills (like staying on their beds during meal times). After seeing him a few times the Vet recommended a strong treatment of prozac to help alleviate his symptoms. However, before going the chemical route I wanted to try solving his symptoms in a more holistic manner. After a few renowned trainers told me he was a lost cause, trainers who probably build their reputation based on the easiest of cases, Melanie Bennet entered the picture. We had a consultation and Melanie was compassionate with my dog and helped me understand his mindset as well as a training regimen that could help him improve. She was very realistic in managing my expectations and helped me understand what was achievable in the training and what would be a stretch. I enrolled my dog in a 4-week training bootcamp where Melanie focused on teaching my dog relaxation techniques. Some things I observed after my first visit is that he would lay down a lot, I thought he was tired or scared but then learned Melanie trained him to do that whenever he was overly aroused. Similarly he would stop moving his tail to calm himself down. Throughout successive visits I observed how my dog was more composed and relaxed. He was also paying more attention to me so he could follow my lead. After the first three weeks he had been able to learn to calm himself down enough to reinforce the basics and learn a few cute tricks. He learned how to walk on a gentle leader and how to spin and touch a cone on command. When he came back home people could not believe what they were seeing. I no longer had to hide my dog in my bedroom whenever I had visitors in an attempt to shield them from my dog's anxiety. As long as the visitors knew the ground rules to avoid arousing my dog too much, we had a perfect interaction, something that would have been impossible before. Furthermore, the training did not end there. Melanie provided extensive documentation on what I could do to reinforce and continue his training, which was very useful for me as I did not know how to avoid undoing all of Melanie's fantastic work. Overall, I highly recommend Melanie to any person who wants to have their dog properly trained, especially is that dog needs special attention. Melanie is a professional of the highest level of loves her job and is dedicated to the welfare of the dogs she trains. I tell our trainers Katie and Nicole all of the time that they are life savers. We brought our puppy here at 1 years old - a small wild, energetic Jack Russell who knew every time I was on a video meeting to bark his head off and embarrass me EVERY TIME! Walks were out of the question since he would pull on the leash to the point he would choke himself... sitting on the deck was a nightmare in our own backyard because he would bark at the wind (yes, the wind), the leaves moving, the birds and obviously the neighbors. Does this sound familiar? I questioned my decision of getting a puppy and then I found Max K9. We did a 3 week Board & Train where I was super hesitant of dropping him off (because no one wants to leave their baby anywhere), but they were so good with sending video progress and pictures and including my husband and I in the process. I joke with everyone that I think they implanted a program into his brain! Lol! The transformation was unreal. We were instantly able to communicate with him and actually go on a walk.. outside in the real world. What a breath of fresh air, literally! Max K9 has given us the ability to live an active lifestyle and have our pup enjoy it with us. Stormie is a rescue who we adopted in 2019 and underwent 2 surgeries in 2021 due to bilateral CCL surgery. She was cooped up for an extended amount of time during recovery. We were unable to take her outside without her reacting to other dogs and sometimes even people. Stormie even gave us difficulty when we wanted to go for a short walk. It was so frustrating and difficult taking her out in public that we needed help. We have heard of Maximum K9 from many of our friends and even the great reviews I've seen on dog groups and online. I called to inquire about the types of training (group vs. individual) and it was clear that we needed to take private lessons. We signed up for a package of 6 lessons with Sherry that were one hour long for 6 consecutive weeks. Our first day, Sherry got to know about Stormie's behaviors - positive and negative, what we were having difficulty with and what our goals were. Sherry worked with us each week when training Stormie (and me) on how to modify or progress a skill. We learned how to heel, which we never were taught from another trainer elsewhere, and the importance of heel. We were given homework on what to practice from the training sessions to continue our work outside of the facility. Sherry helped Stormie become less dog reactive in a safe manner at Maximum K9. Stormie was slowly exposed to the board and train dogs in the facility that had various levels of size and temperament. Each week, Stormie learned how to follow her commands and not react to different dogs. With Sherry's consistent training, Stormie was able to heel with me in a circle with other dogs and sit next to them without any reaction at all. I cannot find the words to thank Sherry for helping Stormie and myself. I came into Maximum K9 with Stormie trying to pull my arm off and reacting to dogs in the lobby to now leaving with my arm back intact and her in a nice heel. I can tell they take good care of this facility. A big plus is it's air conditioned and plenty of seats for the adults! Beyond disappointed at Woodbury location. We Have been…read morebringing our full size golden doodle service dog for 3 years now and the last 3 grooming they have hurt him and said nothing. First it was they cut 2 nails on 2 different paws to short and he was bleeding all over our floors and his bed. Then again 2 nails cut short only this time one of the nails split down the middle and caused pain and limping for over a week. The groomer actually blamed my wife for his nails being to long which is the farthest from the truth, this dog comes to work with me every day and walks on cement and hard flooring all day his nails are not long. He also gets grooms 4 times a year at $200 a groom with a generous tip. The last groom we said no nail cutting. A few days after we noticed a spot on his back and found they had sheered a small cyst he had on his back since he was a puppy and said nothing. We don't shave him close either we request a #3 setting so it's not to short. He must have yelped loud in pain. The cut then got infected and $600 later and 2 weeks of antibiotics he is finally healing. They also found under a microscope bacteria, according to the vet it's from the sheers being dirty This dog is the sweetest dog I ever had and since he is my service dog I am very in tune with him, he definitely suffered and deserves more. We will no longer be using them.
