They're really friendly and unfortunately my 3 yr old son didn't work well in the 3-4 year old class because he needs more attention or he'll run off and do his own thing. It was suggested I try the toddler-3 year old class instead which was more like a mommy and me class. I stopped my first trial half way through and they offered the other class as a trail since I didn't finish the first one. Very understanding of the situation. Unfortunately I haven't had the time to sign up to be part of the regular class yet but I will when time permits. My son loved it. DON'T GO HERE. I just don't understand how you can let go a coach that helps excel these kids. The team just came back from state competition taking first place and management decides to let go of the head coach and take over for no valid reason. All the time and effort working with Coach, how can another coach help them get better for the next season?? I'm disappointed with the management here. They don't know how to operate a gym. Before Coach came, they changed out 5 different coaches. Now, my daughter has been with her for 2 1/2 years. She's helped her get better and better as well as her other teammates. My daughter has witnessed plenty of drama with the staff, some I'm concerned because at her age--she doesn't need to be witnessing the drama happening here. We would have left but she didn't want to leave her teammates and Coach, so we stayed. Now that the head coach is gone, all the gymnasts are devastated and don't want to stay. We cannot have a repeat again of revolving new coaches. Finding a good experienced coach is not easy. Us parents have all cancelled our membership today because we don't agree with the decision. That should say enough about how we feel about Coach. A warning to all new members: this gym doesn't appreciate talent. I don't think you should invest your time and money at a place that will make decisions impacting your child's dreams without any consideration. Do yourself a favor and find a gym that supports talented coaches and talented gymnasts for the long term. read more

TLDR: it was good while it lasted, but greed, ego, and absolutely horrific management had to go ahead and ruin a perfectly good thing. Don't give this place your time and money, and definitely do not participate in their teams programs because they do not care about you or your child's time, effort, money or their coaches, aka their staff. I want to preface this by saying that this review is specifically about the owner Parvin, the manager Jenn, and the way the gym is ran, and is not generally a reflection of the coaches that they employ, though I would guess a lot of them are not exactly number one fans of their employer either, it's definitely giving abusive relationship. My daughter attended Payke for over 2 years at 9-12 hours a week respectively and was part of the Xcel girl's team the gym had. She was with a wonderful head coach (Teodora) for the entirety of her time there, who the manager and owner decided to unceremoniously fire the day after state competition when our girls' teams placed first and second place at state respectively! What a nice way to thank the coach who put your gym on the map, amirite? The manager had the audacity to write an email to the parents of the team girls that same day, in which she implied she'd be "assisting" in taking over coaching (lol) and had the gall to include a little two sentence "about me" in said email as if that was somehow going to convince us that this was a good move! (Don't worry guys, she was a gymnast, so she is obviously qualified. Insert eye roll.) We wrote a strongly worded email requesting a reinstatement, explanation, and apology, which was met with a good 'ol "nope this is final." The parents collectively agreed we'd go to the gym in person and demand answers, and when we showed up this woman literally said, "So nobody is here for practice?" I have an idea what you can manage Jenn! Your expectations!!! Wildly delusional. I digress. It isn't that I have some personal vendetta against this woman seeing as how I know nothing about her besides what she decided to disclose in the very nonchalant email, as if somehow that was going to be sufficient, it's just that the way this was handled was so bad it was near comical. You'd think someone who was a gymnast knows the importance of the coach to the integrity of the team? How they thought firing her on a one day notice was going to go over well or in their favor, or how they assumed ANY of the girls would stay behind following that s&$tshow is insane to me. We asked for explanations. We got none. As far as we could tell, this was a power play, or a money move, or strictly personal, none of which constitutes a legitimate reason to fire someone who was CLEARLY well loved by her team. There was also definitely some double standards when it came to the boys' team and the girls' team, but I'm not even going to go into that one because this review is already too long. Anyways. We're having a really good experience at Payke. The coaches are dedicated and the team member who works up front is awesome. It's a super positive space. The coaches really care about the kids. You can see everyone who works there is really knowledgeable. The place could use a little touching up because it looks like it's stuck in the 80s. If you look at the negative reviews it seems to be about the owner and not the people who are there day in and day out. read more

took my daughter to a free trail class today ( 5/2 ) and of course she was nervous , shy & not that talkative. Long story short the " coach" had 4 girls in total and told me that my daughter should be with the younger group because my daughter doesn't have good listening skills?? then to top it off she was favoriting one of the girls. I like Payke. I took my daughter here for a free trail class & joined their membership after the trail class. Staffs here are very helpful and friendly. A big shout out to Theo!! He always greets us and gives the brightest smiles. They are always accommodating when there's a schedule conflict. The coaches there are good too. Be careful of fraud!! We were customer of Payke many many years ago, and last attended over 6 years ago in 02/2019. Before pandemic! And all bills were paid. Now we get an email telling us we owe them $110 for classes taken?!?! It's been over 6 years and all were paid at the time!! They don't respond to email nor answer calls. The number to their South Pasadena location has been disconnected. The number to their Alhambra location goes to voicemail but mail box is full. So, buyer beware. They will fraudulently bill you and not respond to your questions. read more

Money suckers!!!! They will suck you out of your own money with so many little charges. I attended a funeral and couldn't take my daughter to her class, I didn't make a call she wasn't showing up. I got charged a late fee, and if I don't pay this late fee by the 15th I get charged $30. Out of no where today is august 20 I received a billing for the month of September???? were not done with august why am I being charged for next month? Let me ask you something. Why the annual fee?On the website it says "you're good for one year" what does that even mean...what am I good for? To bring my kid all year? I honestly believe these people owning this place only care about the money. If you're looking to get your child in once a week, startup fee is $250 by the way. on top of that I am now reading there's a additional late fee to be charged if the first late fee isn't paid. I'm sure there's better schools, with better staff (don't even get me started with the attitude from the front desk lady. OK listen to my words Treat them as gem, not turds I'm not big on gymnastics I'd be almost an opposite of a fanatic I don't like the long practices And realistically the fact is There are far away meets if your kid is committed With a uniform that is fitted BUT the coaches are great They have character and weight (not talking about lbs) They care for the kids and it shows They'll lift up your kid if they score low as long as they try their best Forget the rest Truly I'm not a fan of this sport. BUT my kid loves it, the coaches are awesome (shout out to Coach Matt, Seo, and Logan). When I see them interact with the kids, they're strict, expect the best, but they're also kind, and really care for the kids. When my son messed up on a vault thing at a competition, they made sure they encouraged him with words of affirmation because they knew he tried his best. Popped on by for a free trial for my baby girl this past Sunday morning, and she enjoyed every min of it. We booked a Parent and Me time slot for us to try out. Super friendly and amazing staff, very playful with all the kiddies. For my baby girl being so young, I feel this is perfect for her to run and jump around to get her energy out. Highly recommend other parents to give their kiddies a try. The hubs and I considered enrolling her when she turns 2 in a few months. read more

After 4 months, my kid is not leaning anything new in the Tiny Star class and it's getting really bored, but they said my kid is too active ( why you think I'm looking for this class for him ?) I guess the tiny star class is for kids under 3 or 4 years old. And the front desk lady ( not the owner) has the worst attitude, I'm pick up my kid from his regular school and was late for the class, she questioned me " why are you late " and didn't even let us go to the class after I drove all the way here. Attempted to sign my daughter up for classes, went online and registered. I received an email stating I would get another email stating if my equestrian was approved or denied, never received. I called the day before the class and the lady I spoke to said "come in the morning and we'll talk about it," What there to talk about it's yes or no. So I went in the morning with my little one all ready, the coaches started taking temps, I overheard another mom say it was her boys first class and they weren't completely registered. The coaches informed her she had to wait for the lady who works the front desk, I figured this was the same lady I was waiting for. I waited for 15 mins and no one ever came to handle the front desk, my little one was getting impatient and so was I so I left. The class was only 45 mins and we had missed the first 15. This is not how you run business! Take your kids to Klub Gymnastics in Frogtown they have their act together. A little bit pricier but well worth it. read more

Took my 5 year old here for a free trial. Since we got there a little late we put her on the later class so there was only 2 of them. It was fine at first but then the other instructor took over I think his name was roshon. I am way turned off. The other child seemed like she was enrolled there full time and seemed more experienced. Clearly my child didn't know what she was doing since she's a beginner and the coach made the experience bad for her. He was yelling and seemed to praise the other child more and as for my daughter he made her feel like she can't do it. Instead of hyping her up. You are NOT coaching the military, you are coaching a 5 year old gymnastics class!! She was so excited to attend class here but we actually left early because she wanted to just leave. When a child decides they want to stop a lesson and leave, that tells a lot about the business. I will try a different gymnastics place if she ever wants to try again, unless coach traumatized her. Way to make my kid feel like she doesn't belong and incapable. read more

O yay, I'm a duke! Love this place. Its very close to my residence and my little one has enjoyed coming here from the moment she stepped foot. Thanks to a very good friend who recommended me to this fine establishment. But was short lived. My little one was a little advanced and was bumped up. So, we had to relocate her to the other Payke in South Pasadena. The schedule was better for my little one. The couch's are very tentative and knowledgeable. The facility is huge and very clean. Unfortunately I could not in good conscience give this place a 5 star rating...It has been 7 months since this incident occurred with my daughter and I write this now only to bring awareness to future girl gymnast. Boys team head coach, 5 stars, definitely. Girls team head coach, 2 stars, at best. Boys team, great coaches, period. They are skilled, vigilant, strict, disciplined, encouraging, and SKILLED. My son has worked with head coach Matt, and 2 other coaches, ALL have actually trained in gymnastics themselves, for decades. Although it is a small gym, I trust them to take my son as far as he wants to go. Girls team, the head coach has NEVER trained for gymnastics himself, he was NEVER a gymnast, he was a dancer, period. He is very interested in one thing, money. He has a huge ego. He only trained under a very very good head coach for girls some years ago, that's it, those are his qualifications. On a very sensitive subject, he stalked my 11 year old daughter after she left! He took screenshots of her post and proceeded to tell me she was trying to steal his girls, which are her friends. That was inappropriate behavior for a grown man, and professional. Now my daughter is flourishing like never before, and it's the same owners! Just a different location. BE WARNED do not bring your daughter to him if she wants to progress in the sport. I cannot speak for the lower rec couches but he has no business taking girls to meets. If you study gymnastics or know anything about USAG or USAIGC, you know by looking at his girls they are on the very low end of the skill level required. read more

This place needs a serious upgrade. It's so old and dingy. The mats were so dirty. And they tell us that kids cant wear socks. I understand the logistics of it all but if that's the case, please keep you equipment, mats and even the restroom CLEAN. Asking children to walk in the restroom barefooted is unacceptable. Came here once for a kids party. Great place to do a kids birthday party... They engage all the children in the activities and there is space for parent's to watch, lay out food, do the cake and presents. But many of the mats are dilapidated and need to be replaced ASAP. Highly recommend for little kids party. I've hosted my daughter's birthday here twice and fun was had by all. We've also attended a few parties here, as well. Staff had tons of energy and entertained the kids. They played games with the kids and assisted when help was needed. You usually get a 2hr private party. About 2-3 coaches depending on guests. With that said prices will vary due to the amount of guests and how many coached that are needed. You bring your own food and drinks. The reason I also adore this place is that every time we host or attend a party here the coaches includes my son who has autism. Brought my daughter in for a trail class as we were exploring our options and let me start by saying as soon as we walked in my 6 year old daughter wanted to leave. If I could I would give no stars, this place is super outdated all the equipment is ripped and as my daughter said rusty. As soon as you walk into the place you get a very bad odor, you would think that for the class prices they would be able to keep up with this place.
