I have had Pena Drywall perform several projects for my house so far and they have done an excellent job! I had my pop corn ceilings removed, textured and repainted. I had a wood wall removed, textured and repainted. I also had dry walls patched, fixed, textured and repainted after they were cut open for electrical work and plumbing work. They are responsible, reasonable, easy to get ahold of and go the extra mile. They noticed and fixed things that I didn't. They offered to fix up the old closet that had my heater in it (that was moved) and make it a usable closet. If you haven't yet read enough awesome words about Peña, ponder this: of the 82 review for Peña as of Oct 2018, only 5 reviews are not 5-star reviews: one is a 4-star review (from a guy who has nothing but good things to say) and 3 are 1-star reviews from whiners who didn't engage Peña to do work. Discounting the reviews that didn't involve actual work, Peña's track record is 99.7%. That's solid. When we moved into a 1949 home in San Leandro earlier this summer, the walls were all a textured plaster we didn't care for. We had a few contractors come by before deciding to go with Peña for the skim coating. I really liked how engaged and genuine Jim seemed. He was generous with his time and knowledge and got on really well with another general contractor we had visiting at the time. Jim's crew was solid. The foreman Jerry was communicative with regular progress texts and was able to assuage some "is this normal?" concerns I had along the way. The only disappointing aspect of our experience was that the dudes left a lot of dust and mud spatter on the windows, molding, fixtures, etc... Jim himself was disappointed when he did his final walk-through. He offered to have his guys come by and clean up, but timing of other contractors coming in didn't allow for us to take him up on that. We have very high standards for work done in our home, and Jim Pena and his team are as good as it gets. They managed to squeeze our smallish project in between Christmas and New Years, and each of the workers he sent to our home over the 3 days were excellent. Skilled, respectful, attentive, friendly, and CLEAN... they each cleaned up at the end of each day to the point where it didn't look like work had been done. Drywall can be dusty and messy, but these guys know how to prep the area right and THOROUGHLY clean it when they finish each day. I live in an area where there is a lot of ground movement and over the years it caused there to be multiple cracks in wall junctures and in our ceilings, particularly in our vaulted living room. I contacted Jim and while it took a while for the repairs to start, once they did his skilled, friendly and efficient team did an excellent job replacing several drywall panels, patching cracks, re-texturing and painting with color-matching paint. Jim wasted my time. I wish I'd paid more attention to the 1 stars negative reviews for Pena Drywall. I dodged a bullet after he blew me off after 1.5 months of talking about his co replacing some drywall in my sm bedroom ceiling and wall after a restoration company does the initial wking of cutting the drywall and removing any mold behind there. In the beg, Jim talked a gd talk but at the end he blew off implying my job was small. At the estimate, he's seen alot worse water stains and really bad toxic mold and this doesn't even compare in his opinion. I said this was my bedrm and I had mold allergies nightly here. It's m Not fair for him to belittle what he see the situation as. Then he talked about having Covid twice like that had anything to do w the estimate. He said if I don't get sick fr he mold and end up on the hospital then it's not a big deal a little mold allergiesJim was obv not here to solve my prob. He was here to grandstand. He never did send me an estimate. I talked w him a total of 5xs over 1.5 mo period while I was waiting for the leak to get fixed. In the last 2 calls w Jim, I asked him for his estimate. He said he'd send it when it got closer to doing job. Initially he had given me a verbal rough quote over the phone after looking at photos I'd sent him. That was for the whole job incl the mold removal pt. But once he said he wasn't comfortable doing the mold removal pt, that ought quote got thrown out. Jim strung me along never intending to give me a quote but I didn't know that at the time. Even a few days ago, in a phone conversation I said the leak is going to fixed soon so get ready to give me the estimate. He lied and yeah as soon as the leak fixed he would come by and do his pt the drywall replacement. I asked him how much it would be if he did the whole thing aka cut the wall, remove h the mold and replace drywall? He talked in a contradictory manner again and said he didn't want the do the whole job bc I said to him a few times that I have allergies in that rm. One wk he's all going ho about doing the whole job. 2 wks later, he's not comfortable removing the mold pt. 2 more wks later, he's disappointed I don't want him to do the mold removal at the in person estimate. Then when I mention he poss doing whole job, he says he's not interested in doing whole thing anymore This person can't make up his mind what he wants to do. If he was smart, he wouldn't imply my job is too small for him esp since he been taking up my time updating him and keeping him the loop on the status job. At any time during the 1.5 mo, he could have said he's out of here. In the end he did me a favor by refusing to do my job bc it wa sm in his opinion. Looks like I dodged a bullet bc after reading some of the terrible 1 star reviews on Pena Drywall, I don't know why I ever wanted him to do the drywall in the first place. Hired Jim and his Team ( Jimmy, Pedro & Tony )to sheetrock, tape & texture our kitchen. On time from estimate to completion today. They are professional, polite, personable, clean and great at their profession. You will not be able to find a seam anywhere and blended the new texture to our existing texture. Before leaving both days, they asked me how everything looked and if clean ( they basically clean & wipe everything down as they leave the front door ). I will hire Jim again in a couple months for our bathroom remodels. Update 04/18/2017: We hired Jim and his Team to sheetrock, tape and texture the (2) upstairs bathrooms , retexture the (3) bedrooms and hallway/ stairway. Jim was on time again for the estimate. We hired Jim and his team for a project to vault all the ceilings in our home. To sum up, in every instance Jim exceeded our expectations. When the project demolition began he covered all the floors in a very thick protective paper covering, which we didn't expect (we thought he would use one of the typical flimsy coverings) and were very impressed with (it was nowhere in his contract). And before he started laying sheetrock he AGAIN covered the floors with new paper coverings, again with no contractural requirement to do so. During the project he used safe U.S. materials approved by the Environmental Working Group, again something not spelled out in the contract. He also prepared the finish carefully and thoroughly to the highest grade (we had chosen smooth texture throughout), again without a contract stipulation. When the framing team had earlier got something wrong re the skylights and ridge beam support, he fixed it without any difficulties as a change order. We have two Nest thermostats and he mounted and finished them perfectly, without a hitch. Also, all his change orders were necessary and reasonable. He also had a very reasonable price on the fiberglass insulation, and prior discussions with him saved us a bundle regarding spray foam (which we decided not to use). When he was done he had a cleaning team come in and spend an entire day removing coverings AND cleaning all the floors thoroughly (!) As a result of all his good work, we heartily recommend Jim and his team! read more

Our entire home renovation that included smoothening and painting the walls had another delay when blisters and bubbles started appearing on two adjacent bathroom walls. The painter I had hired claimed water damage was causing the problem and no matter what they did the problem did not go away. Thankfully Jimmy rushed into our help. He confirmed that drywall was fine. He scraped off the previous coats and meticulously sanded and primed the walls and finally painted to match it to the rest of the bathroom. Our dining room developed a large hole in a side wall from a leaky pipe from an upstairs bathroom. Jim Pena came immediately, diagnosed the problem, referred us to an excellent plumber, and provided a very reasonable estimate.
