On the border of 2 and 3 starts, rounding down because it was especially underwhelming given the reputation. I suppose this is why the Midwest has the culinary reputation it does... This being a soup-salad-sandwich place, I had a half-sandwich with soup. The famous crab-corn chowder was just okay--I didn't really taste any crab in the broth, just some strands of loose imitation crab. I found it thicker than a usual bisque sort of soup: although that's reasonable by clam chowder standards, this broth didn't quite taste like anything. I also found the sandwich nondescript--the hard-boiled egg was nice, but the ham, cheese, and pita all seemed premade, and their combination didn't seem to add anything. read more

Outdoor seating is great at this restaurant. The only negative comment is they don't put on the table that you should come inside before being seated. It took a while for them to acknowledge me since there's no signage. Once we got past that everything is great The Cobb salad with chicken is really good with the homemade bacon vinaigrette dressing and the sweet corn & crab chowder is really good. It has just a slight kick to it as far as taste but really just pops in your mouth is really delicious. Cobb salad has lots of toppings lots of chicken and a very false salad. Fresh ingredients, fresh eggs avocado slices might be a nice touch to it. Fresh brewed iced tea was spot on and Service was absolutely wonderful out on the sidewalk, enjoying the sunshine and a nice warm breeze. read more

We were looking around for a nice place for lunch when we found this location on Yelp with good reviews. It is a small locally owned business where they make all their own food for their menu. For drinks I ordered an expresso coffee and my wife got a Hot Chocolate. Then I chose a Turkey Sandwich with a cup of Potato Soup. My wife just ordered a large bowl of Potato Soup. Everything was delicious. We had the nicest little waitress and her service was exceptional. If you're looking for a nice lunch try this place. You won't go wrong. read more

Ate lunch at Pea-fections on a Friday. It was pretty full but they had one table open. My wife had the tomato basil soup and half turkey sandwich combo. She said it was good. I had the fruit salad with their original chicken salad. It was huge. No way I could eat it all. The chicken salad is different than what I've had anywhere else. The chicken is very finely cut or ground. Has a good flavor. My only complaint is that the dish it comes in is a shallow bowl which makes it hard to cut the fruit. Service was good. They were open on the Saturday we were in town (check: sometimes they are open outside of posted times). The food was fantastic. Save room for dessert, you will want a dessert. Our waitress was great and very helpful in getting us to exactly what we were wanting. Make sure to take the time to soak in the restaurant, because it is very clean and in inviting to enjoy a meal. If you're coming to Vincennes, you simply must come here. This is the cutest little cafe in the downtown area. The restaurant feels so homey and comfortable, and the people who work here are friendly and helpful. Highly recommend the pitas and soup. I ordered the bbq bacon chicken cheddar pita with broccoli cheddar soup. The pita is served warm and soft, and the ingredients are fresh. The soup is hot and very obviously homemade, with real cheese in it. For dessert I got the red velvet suit and tie cake. It's chocolatey and cheesecakey and wonderful. I wish I had a good reason to come back here so I could try some of the other desserts, and sandwiches too because they all looked incredible. read more

Great place for a light lunch. Soups, sandwiches, salads, and dessert is a MUST. Service is always great, and the owner is usually around making sure everything is up to her standards. We walked in for lunch on a casual adventure day. There were coolers filled with cakes and cheesecake to the immediate right, and it all looked incredible. Rachelle and I both got soup and sandwiches. Her meal was the "Half n Half " combo: signature chicken salad on a croissant and tomato/basil soup. I got the tuna salad on a croissant with Pea's famous broccoli cheddar soup (been making it "since day 1"). It was all delicious, and surprisingly filling. Do you love dessert? This is your spot. There's photos of their desserts all along the walls and they are fabulousss. Tuxedo Cake (chocolate and vanilla layers), The Chocolate Bar (warm brownie with vanilla ice cream scoop, chocolate drizzle and a cut-out, chocolate topping), Strawberry Cake (layers of strawberry and vanilla), Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake, and so much more. Oh, and they also have great lunch and dinner menus (but I had to start with the dessert). There's wraps, pita melts, sandwiches, creamy soups galore, and salads (leafy or pasta). The chicken pita sandwich came with a creamy dressing, cheese, tomatoes and lettuce. I also got a side of crab, corn soup. Both were fresh and yummy. I like that the food is simple but done well. The Caesar wrap looked delicious as well, as did the broccoli cheddar soup. Service is nice and quick, they have specials of the day, and they do a good job of hosting larger groups. read more

There overall food is average. Nothing excites me or makes me want to come back except...the coconut cheesecake. That is worthy of 5 stars itself. The bakery dept is probably fantastic based on that. I think of this place as one of those cafes that's perfect for a group of women. Not sure what makes it more for women than men, and men can certainly find plenty to like - that's just the vibe- "ladies who lunch." We stopped here after wedding dress shopping at Illusions. We all got soups and salads/sandwiches. Tomato basil soup was great and my sandwich was as expected. They have a large dessert menu too, although I personally didn't care for the peppermint raspberry cheesecake we got - I got outvoted by my group so I knew I wouldn't exactly love the combo. The pluses are also that the decor is cute and quaint, and the place was beautifully decorated for Christmas. A minus is that the waitress called my short haired friend a "gentleman" and never corrected herself. My friend is petite and feminine so I'm positive that the waitress just saw the back of her head and instantly realized her mistake, so it was just funny and odd that she didn't correct herself. A good place to go if you're visiting the nearby George Rogers Clark memorial. Pea does a very brisk lunch business, but the wait is expedited through their display of baking wares and ample seating space for waiting. I had the pesto sandwich special. served quickly on homemade white bread. A little bit sour, but good flavor. Also had a bowl of broccoli cheese soup. Surprised by the size of the bowl, impressively large. A decent soup. But, the sausage gumbo missed. Seems the cajun flavors of the mighty Mississip never made it upstream to its Wabash tributary. Rather than a thick, spicy rice-filled gumbo, the soup served was watery with some slivers of celery and sausage. Needs strength. However, the Red, White, and Bleu Italian roast beef sandwich was a hit. Sturdy bun, tasty beef, nice veggies. Terrific sandwich. The highlight was the carrot cake for dessert; Sweet and moist, everything one would expect from a shop that hangs its reputation on its baked goods. My wife asked me if I wanted to try their Italian Beef Sandwiches. She brought one home, and it was huge!!!. Loaded with juicy, tender roast beef, that's so juicy you don't even need to use the au jus, which is also excellent. Its by far the best sandwich I've had in a very long time. I grew up 60 miles from Philadelphia, which is famous for their Italuan Beef Sandwiches, and I have to say, this was on par or better than any I've had in the Philadelphia area. Best sandwich by far in Vincennes. They're only open until 5 PM, so if you want some in the evening, get a few extra for later. I HIGHLY recommend Pea-fections. read more

I drove through VIncennes going to St. Louis, and we just quickly typed in "food" to Google and found good reviews for this place. So we followed the GPS, parked on the cute little "first main street of Indiana" and headed in. The place is located in a cute area. The restaurant itself reminded me a lot of Amish country back near Akron - lots of wood paneling, a bit outdated. It's got that nice small town charm I don't get in restaurants back home. It is really nice inside though - the tables had real cloth napkins for lunch even. The food was delicious. We both got soup - I got a potato soup and my husband got their broccoli cheddar. Both were excellent and we were really happy with our choice simply because of the soups. They were thinner than I make at home, but I actually really enjoyed it here. Well seasoned and good ingredients. My husband got a turkey sandwich that was filled with good turkey and delicious cheese as well as onion and an egg - he loved it! We haven't seen a sandwich quite like it ever. And I got a salad with asiago cheese and pecans - which was good. The salad was fresh, but I wasn't too big a fan of the dressing. The waitress was nice and very attentive. Our food came super fast (great since we had another 4-5 hours by then I think) and hot! We got to finish off with the strawberries and cream cake. It does have nuts on it (my husband looked super sad when we found this out - stupid us for not asking) so I got to eat almost all of it. It was amazing! The cake was moist, the filling was a creamy strawberry, and it came with a very tangy strawberry sauce. Mixed together, I can't explain how sweet and delicious it was. I ate more than I should have because I couldn't stop. And it was SO pretty! Definitely go for the desserts. Also - everyone in the place was nice. A decent place to eat for lunch/brunch. But, almost every item has something sweet in it. Where is the savory. I get a French Dip sandwich and the want to put caramelized goo on it. Can't even get s dude of horseradish in this joint. The crab bisque has some actual lump in it, but, the ruin the soul of the soup with cardamom, and cinnamon. Get some savory going. Not everything needs sweet added to it. On top of that; food is just kind of bland, and, don't ever go after two. It's just a shortened menu to get rid of their leftovers from lunch. read more

The only thing bad about Peafections is making a decision. Seriously, every soup is amazing! No one does broccoli cheddar soup like like these guys. The crab chowder is outstanding as is the tomato basil. I have a hard time making myself deviate from the Cashew Raisin chicken salad croissant, but today, I bought a pound of the salad to take a home, and I decided on the Greek pita and the broccoli cheddar soup (I could eat a quart in one sitting). Service is friendly and very prompt. The surrounding shops on this quaint Main Street are also worth a visit. read more
