3 minutes ago New…read moreBreakfast Today we came in with a very large party. We first got sat at a booth around our other 20 friends, only to be told our party of five needs to move to the other side of the restaurant. Then my wife went to the car and noticed a homeless gentleman outside. She came in and because of the heat asked if she could buy a drink in a to-go cup. The waitress asked if it were for the homeless guy outside, my wife says "yes". Waitress says "no I'm not selling you a drink for that man outside. I'm glad you told me that's what it would be for." Storming away from taking out orders, and goes outside yelling at the man who wasn't even out front of her restaurant, but down towards the corner of the building. Telling him she's calling the police. This all while I'm flabbergasted that she's doing this knowing I followed her to the door witnessing her behavior. She then came in and called 911. I went back to my seat where our group was appalled by what we seen and had no choice but to leave. The others in our group had already ordered otherwise they would have lost all 30 of our party. I can't reward an establishment that can't even be a decent human being. I hope this review sheds light on what kind of establishment they are, and hope they learn to be inclusive of all society

Hubby had the tenderloin breakfast #9 and said it was delicious. Tenderloin was melt in your mouth good. Opt for the 3D fried potatoes instead of hash browns. The eggs were cooked perfectly and toast was liberally buttered. Fantastic and delicious! I had the #13 skillet. Very tasty and not over cooked like many scrambled skillets. We both had 1/2 biscuits and gravy - also delicious! Not salty so you can add your own to taste and also pepper. Makes it perfect for both of us! We will definitely be back when we are here next time! Oh and our server was absolutely lovely and very attentive despite having a ton of tables and running around like crazy. She was working so hard but always smiling! She did take a minute to chat to our toddler very sweetly, which was so kind since the place was so busy!

Great food every time, with plenty of variety. I even strayed from the norm on this visit and ordered the breakfast burrito. To be fair, I prefer the large breakfast platters (and biscuits and gravy) but I knew I had a big lunch ahead so I ordered small. The burrito was great, though the sausage distribution was uneven. Half of it was amazing and full of sausage. The other half less so. My son had on of the platters and I apologize for forgetting the name, but it was ham, eggs hash browns and toast. Loved it of course, and probably would have ordered more if I let him! Service always quick and friendly, and it's a place we repeat often.

Returned to Lincoln Square for a group breakfast on a Sunday morning, day after a football game,…read moreduring a time where there are multiple parent weekend activities for the Greek system happening. I expected a crowd. And while I wasn't shocked at the crowd, I was shocked at how quickly we were seated, and how quick and impressive the service was even with a line out the door. Our group of six (multiple families represented) was seated in about 15 minutes. Most of the restaurant is configured for 4-tops, but there were enough larger options to make our seating work. I was too slow to get photos of everyone's food, plus I didn't want to embarrass my daughter who might have stabbed me with her fork. Wife had the one-egg breakfast. Traditional egg and hash browns and she chose toast (think pancakes were an option, and that would have been my preference) while I ordered the country lady. Country lady was a country friend steak, eggs, biscuit, hash browns and sausage gravy. Delish. Love that combination, and it's nice to have an option so I don't have to piece it together somehow. Everyone enjoyed their food, and the server was quick and really 'on it' as he promptly took drink orders, filled them and took our food order at that point. Kitchen staff must have been upgraded since my last visit because it was crazy fast. Check was divided accurately, and we were out the door in less than an hour. They didn't rush us, but it was obvious they wanted to turn tables over fast since the line was building. Definite repeat. I still love the local places downtown, but even I wasn't crazy enough to try to get in those on a football weekend!

The atmosphere is basic and kind of bare, but clean. We started off with tea, which was a super cheap tea bag, but I was expecting as much, so no big deal; I just wanted tea. I did appreciate the choice of green or black. I had the banana bread French toast to eat. It was indulgent and delicious, pretty sweet but not overdone. The banana bread was already rich enough that I did not need to use nearly all the butter that they gave, but it was very nice cinnamon butter. I was very happy with it and would definitely recommend it if you're curious. Everything was good value for the price. I would visit again.

The noise level was low and the lighting was neither bright nor dark. The atmosphere is cold & pretentious. From the limited menu, I ordered spaghetti with mussels, salmon with summer squash and flatiron steak & frites. Why the server had to educate me the meaning of frites, I'm not sure, because I simply asked if the entrees came with any extra sides. The mussels that accompanied the spaghetti were not fully cooked. Mussels should be fully cooked. The salmon was overcooked, which made it dry & chewy. The steak was medium as requested but the meat quality was subpar. Flatiron cut is supposed to be very tender & flavorful, but either the meat was old or prepared by inexperienced hands. Neighborhood street parking is free. For me fine dining is reserved for special occasions. I randomly found The Elm because it was open until 10pm for a late supper due to a late arrival. The food preparation was amateur and the experience was poor due to our server who went out of her way educate me, assumed I didn't know any French terms, and tried too hard to earn her tip. Speak gracefully & succinctly with a courteous tone. Any hint of pretention can insult the customer & spoil the appetite. The only thing 'fine dining' about the meal was the bill. I've had much better quality steak & seafood at famous chop houses in large cities for the same price. I do not recommend The Elm.
