Peabody's is an essential component to the Boone vibe. Right in the heart of town with ample parking, this is the place for all your beer-related desires. There are numerous styles, both refrigerated and not, arranged together. If you don't know what you want or what it is you're looking for, any of the employees are happy to help. They know their stuff. I am pretty sure they are all cicerone certified. Note that there are no beers on tap. This isn't a place to sit and chill but rather a place to stock up on for home or gifts. There are other products sold in the store besides beer, including glasses, bottle openers, snacks, and more. I love Peabody's so much I bought their paper artwork of male dogs peeing on a building and I have it hung up smack in the middle of my living room. Hell yeah. A friend and I stopped by here to see if they had any beer on tap. They did not, but offer growlers to go. There's a lot more wine to choose from than beer (which still filled two aisles). Pretty good selection of craft beers, both regionally and domestically. The wine selection is pretty large as well. The prices vary and you can find anything from the mid teens and upwards of 100 buckaroos for a bottle. Seeing how anywhere I went in regards to liquor store were closed by 8 or 9pm we decided on settling for beer and wine. I selected a Porcupine Ridge Syrah from South Africa and to be honest, it was rich in flavor yet not overly bold and definitely not dry and it was only 14 and some change. We also took various ciders to give them a whirl and no complaints. The staff isn't over friendly from my experience but they also weren't rude. I love visiting Peabody's anytime I am in Boone. I always make a couple of trips there when I am in town. It's such a great bottle shop with friendly staff and an impressive selection. They even offer to special order things if they don't have what you're looking for. They have wine and beer. The wine selection is impressive in that it's a huge selection and they offer wines at every price point. Their wines are organized by region and they are happy to assist you in picking out something you will like. They also have local wines and one of the biggest selections of Mead I have ever seen! I've tried Meads from there that I've never even seen anywhere else. They have a huge local beer selection and many many coolers so you can take home something cold and delicious to enjoy right away! They are super knowledgeable and can even help you with your beer selection. They also have some beers from all over the world. I was very excited once to find a beer there that I'd only ever seen in Costa Rica. I had no idea you could buy it in the US at all! I bought 12 packs for everyone we'd gone to Costa Rica with and they were all very excited! I wish we had a Peabody's in Raleigh!! read more

I would check the expiration date of the snacks before you purchase because I did notice some expired from a few months prior. They also have a selection of non alcoholic beverages. Came up to the mountains for a wedding weekend. At the last minute we decided we wanted to add some different wines to the evening's events. Described what we were looking for to the guys working and immediately they had recommendations. The guys here are very knowledgeable and the wine + beer selection is one of if not the best in this area. If you're coming up to the mountains for any extended period of time you should come by Peabody's for some libations. Just a note, a lot of areas around Boone are dry counties, so if you don't get it here you may not find another reliable place for quite a while. Also, a few of the guys here make their own beer (at least they love their business, right?) and if you ask them they will usually share it with you. We stumbled across this beer and wine heaven on our way to Grandfather Mountain. From the outside, we expected some decent wine selections, but nothing special. Boy, were we wrong! There are aisles upon aisles stocked full of wines ranging in price from $20-$130. It was such a large selection, I had trouble choosing. I ended up with two reds, which both turned out the be delicious. The real gem for us though, was the equally impressive beer selection. My husband is a beer geek (and proud of it), and there were several things here he had never had and a couple he's never heard of before. They even had a small selection, called their "secret stash" of aged beers....score! He could have spent all day...and all of our money in this place, but I finally was about to drag him out with a nice selection. Our only complaint? They have an extensive selection of craft beers. The staff helped me pick the perfect brew to take home. I like that they have the beers separated by region. I decided I wanted to try a West Coast beer and went with the Boont Amber Ale brewed in Boonville, CA. The packaging is what sold me. The beers can get expensive, but they are fairly priced. Although I did not buy any, they had an awesome selection of Lambics and I plan on trying the peach one when I return. The only downside is that its $25! I went in to get something specific and the selection was twice what I am accustomed to paying and so I simply bolted for the door. I have to say about Peabody's: I have yet to walk in and not get the most sophisticated and satisfactory help from the staff. No matter how detailed or non-specific I can be about what I'm looking for, it seems they always point me in the exact direction of what I want. I don't usually write reviews on Yelp! Peabody's, calls themselves a wine and beer merchant, but they are much more. They also offer cheeses, chocolates and gourmet food items. There are 8 taps at a Growler Station - I noticed they had Fonta Flora which I rarely see. Tuesdays from 5-7 PM, they do free beer tastings and Saturdays 12 Noon-5PM they hold wine tastings. Super knowledgeable staff and an amazingly large selection of beer, wine, and other drinks! Stopped in on a whim and it was just the place we were hoping to find! It is a little pricey as noted by others. My only other gripe was the beer coolers. The place is so stocked there are mountains of beer and wine placed pretty close to the row of coolers. The selection is so large you spend a lot of time fumbling over other people and doors as they open them to look. You had to open the doors as the glass was fogged out a good bit by I am guessing years of condensation coming and going. Get these guys a bottle of Windex! read more

We were not impressed at all. When we walked up to the tasting area the wine host was spitting into the wine waste disposal vs just pouring the wine from the glass into the area. Such a big selection! Most of which are hard to find anywhere else. My fiance and I are both App grads, so on a trip back to visit, we decided to buy a bottle of wine from Peabody's to age and open on our 25th wedding anniversary. Neither of us have any clue about aging wine, but the guy working there was a big help in giving us advice on what type of wines are best for aging (I thought you could age any wine- apparently not!). They also have wine and beer tastings throughout the week, and usually offer discounts on the brands that they offer samples of. I just can't remember what days. You had to drive to Blowing Rock to purchase any alcohol. So when Peabody's came to town it was instantly appreciated. read more

Don't wait around for something special, they will get it and then not sell it to you! Called a couple days ago, was told NO RESERVATIONS. Was there when the truck arrived and then was told it was all reserved. Waited in the parking lot for an hour, talked to the guys several times, was told how many of each I could buy (2-1-1). Was never once told they wouldn't sell me any until the truck arrived! No reservations, but their all reserved! What a waste of an afternoon. I have been to see them several times and everytime I have realized that you can get anything cheaper at harris teeter or earthfare than at peabody's. They put things on sell because it is skunked. Going to Peabody's is a waste of money. read more
