When it's time, it's already so stressful and you are filled with so much uncertainty and guilt--the last thing you want to do is go through with such a tough decision. This was one of the hardest things to have to look up online, but I wanted to take the time to leave a positive review for Dr. Bob & Sherry so that if [YOU] have found yourself here contemplating the same decision for your 4 legged loved one, I hope you find some assurances in our experience. This is the way to do it, without question. Our sweet Pomeranian, Roxy, was a few months shy of her 15th birthday. We had noticed her slowing down quite a bit over the last 1-1.5 years, you could tell her sight and vision was starting to go a bit, and her energy levels had dropped pretty significantly. The turning point was about 2-3 weeks ago when she developed a continuous, fairly violent cough/gag that, after a visit to the vet, turned out to be a host of irreparable issues including an enlarged heart and a collapsing trachea (among several other things). Our vet visit yielded what was basically going to be a oral sedative regiment that would be perpetual just to maintain her current 'quality' of life--which wasn't much of anything since she wasn't getting any sleep from her coughing. After bringing her home, my wife and I were beating ourselves up over what we were even doing and why we didn't ask "the question". The sedative medicine was basically just masking the issues, and while on it, she was a zombie, a shell of herself. When you've had a pet for this long, Roxy's eyes were telling us that she was tired and she was ready. Roxy always hated going to the vet, so we couldn't bring ourselves to bring her back in for a final time. My wife found the information for Peaceful Pet Passing, and while that was probably the most difficult call I've ever had to make, I was greeted with kindness and compassion by Dr. Bob. When it was finally time, Dr. Sherry administered the first sedative and then thoughtfully allowed us some alone time with Roxy. Our old lady was finally able to relax. Having lost 3 cats to kidney failure--I can say it never gets easier. The first loss we experienced was handled away from home--and we vowed to never do that again.
