On top of that, we experienced two family deaths, a pregnancy, and a miscarriage--all within this same incredibly difficult year. When I found out in March that my husband's deployment was being extended by 3 months, no services had been rendered at that time. Despite this, Giulia chose to retain our deposit. While I recognize that contractually this may be within their rights, I hoped for more understanding and compassion, especially under such exceptional circumstances. We did not cancel our wedding because we decided not to get married, changed our minds, etc. We are unable to move forward because my husband is in the middle of an active war zone, fighting for all of us, and for our country. I would have hoped that Giulia would have made a contractual exception due to this fact alone. Many of our other vendors--without being asked--refunded us in full, out of sheer kindness and empathy. Their actions reminded us that business can be both professional and human. I expected the same from a wedding coordinator--someone who works in an industry that revolves around love, family, and life's biggest milestones. This isn't a reflection of their work at a wedding, because we never had one. It's a reflection of how they responded when life threw more at us than we ever imagined. And unfortunately, that response fell short of what we hoped for during one of the most vulnerable times in our lives.
