Because of her knowledge and skill I utilized her talents while healing from 2 foot surgeries in one year. I was in a walking boot for 8 weeks for the 1st surgery and 6 weeks for the second surgery. My calves and shoulders were always so sore from compensating my gait for the boots that it was very hard to function. Within minutes of Jamie beginning work on my muscles I could feel a world of difference. Her technique and knowledge is spot on. During one session she could even tell that there was something wrong with my rotator cuff and recommended I see a therapist. She was right and I had therapy for 10 weeks. Regardless of personal relationship, I highly recommend Massage and Spa by Jamie Richardson. I have not been compensated for this review, I believe in this young woman's skills.

The gift card is now pointless to me as I'm not going to pay more just to use it. It's unfortunate but it's what happened to me. Watch your expiration as mine was only good for 4 months. I feel like when they're a gift they defenitly shouldn't expire considering some people buy gifts early and if they do expire it should be plenty of time 6 + months.

I have had easily over 100 massages over the years, mostly from the chains (Massage Envy, etc), many from hotel spas and a few from independent therapists and again I tell you, this was the best! First and foremost, if you are a "chain store" person, or leary for whatever reason, about getting a massage from someone who works out of their home, go ahead and throw that thought right out the window! April is highly educated in her craft and provides a far better service than any name brand massage place! Is she going to give you a terry cloth robe and put cucumber slices on your eyes? No. Is she going to give you a fantastic massage? Yes! Now I have always left a massage feeling better, but I tell you now that I left this massage feeling GREAT, completely loose, jelly like and most importantly, pain free! Normally, with every previous massage I requested deep tissue and I now know I never actually received that! This massage was 180 from every other, and in a good way! Here are some highlights: A) I usually fall asleep, or have minimal talking. However, April "educated" me through the entire experience and it was a very nice and welcome change! And if you want silence, just tell her and you will get silence. She absolutely wants you to have a positive experience! 2. She primarily used a cupping therapy technique, a first for me and I will not go to another therapist unless they use this technique. I'm not going to explain it to you, you're a grown up, you can Google it! Word of warning though, this technique will most likely leave marks or slight bruising on you; relax, it will go away, and it is well worth it! Third, she doesn't just use a lot oil and rub your muscles! She gives you a legit massage! If you've been to the others, do yourself a favor and go to April for your next massage! I was told I was rude and disrespectful as I wanted a refund and was told they were going to call the police if I didn't leave. I work with customers all day long and would never have imagined this type of treatment went on. Beware of this place. Even with a Groupon, not worth it. Groupon refunded me when I told them the police were called as I was rude and disrespectful. They get one star as zero is not an option. Also, Steve, another owner, came up and tried to make it right and cancelled the police call. Marvin's business is inside a very well-kept professional center, so you can go in the back entrance and it's super easy to find. Everything is in one office, so you'll complete your intake and the massage in the same room. The temperate, noisy level and ambience were all as expected and I did not have any problems with these items throughout. Bathrooms are located nearby for before or after the appointment. The only item that was slightly disappointing was regarding the time spent on particular areas. I seek massage for overuse due to sports officiating, and I've been getting massages for years so I know exactly where the time is best spent. I generally request that the massage therapist limit time on the upper back and skip stomach, neck, face, and arms. The only minor complaint I had was that we spent nearly 10+ minutes on the upper back. Seems minor, but for me it's a valuable 10 minutes that could have been spent on the lower body where I needed it. I know I mentioned on the intake form, but I also could have/should have mentioned it during the session. I'm usually minimal conflict, but I'm sure if I would have addressed it, Marvin would have fixed it. I have no doubt because everything else was wonderful and well taken care of. For that reason, I did not deduct any rating for this. It's a good lesson for others getting massages - it's your time. Make sure you are vocal about what you want and feel free to request corrections during the session if it's not meeting your expectations.

She's truly been a lifesaver. Chronic pain and fatigue usually send you to the doctor but that's usually not enough. Mine say massages should not just be thought of as something that feels good, that they are good for your physical and mental health too. Real therapeutic massages (and Carolyn is a licensed therapist) reduce the pain from (the still unknown reason) that causes Fibro/CFS to hurt all over. They also help me get more restful and longer amounts of sleep, one of the most insidious parts of the illness. I go to Carolyn as often as I can and I get the 90 minute massage simply because 60 minutes (although available) isn't nearly long enough for full therapeutic effect for me in my opinion. It's important that people not feel embarrassed or self conscious about getting a massage. It IS a personal service, so that's why you want to get the best, most professional therapist available. Carolyn is a professional and just as with a doctor doesn't care what about the size or shape of your body. I know too many people who have denied themselves a massage out of concern that they are carrying some extra weight. Therapists have seen every body shape imaginable and do not judge their clients. Their concern is you get the massage that helps you. If you've never had a massage know that you are always covered with a clean sheet (other than the area being worked on) and you can either have a comfortable heated pad underneath you to help warm your muscles or not. Personally I like the warmth in the winter and prefer cool sheets in the summer. All you have to do is tell Carolyn your preferences. The room is always dimly lit with soft ambient music & sometimes a candle burning (aromatherapy) during the massage. It's also important to remember that, just like with your doctor, you need to communicate with your therapist so Carolyn can give you the massage that will help you most or one of the other styles available. It's up to you to tell how much pressure you need in order to make the massage give you the best possible health benefits. I won't go to another therapist as long as Carolyn is working and I have recommended her to many people. I really impress on people to not let their shyness stop them from getting the pain relief (or health benefits) from a massage by Carolyn. One other thing many people may not know is that, just as in other service industries, it's always important to leave a gratuity (tip) of around 15%. Carolyn is located at Oasis Massage at 132nd & W.
