This might be the first negative review I have ever taken the time to write. Normally, I am pretty easy going and understand that businesses have bad days too. But my experience with Peapod over the last couple of weeks has been annoying at best and I do not recommend this service. I think it is ridiculous that this company gets the charged total authorized on your card, only to remove several items from your cart before it is fulfilled due to a lack of inventory. I understand the strain the current events have put on grocery stores and suppliers, but how difficult is it to maintain an inventory system that accounts for orders that are placed and unfulfilled? I had several items in my cart cancelled although those items were listed as in-stock and available when I placed my order. And although I elected, as recommend by Peapod, for product substitutions in the event that something became unavailable, the company did not substitute my items for others on the website that are claimed to be in-stock. Rather, I received notification when I signed in that items had been removed and I was below the required minimum limit for delivery and my order would be cancelled if I did not add items. Best I can tell, Peapod doesn't even bother to email you with a notification that this has happened. The upshot is that after reading some other reviews, it looks like the company did me a favor. I can spend the $9.95 delivery fee plus tip on something worth my time. read more

I was originally impressed with Peapod. It was cheaper than FreshDirect and provided updated information via text regarding your driver's arrival. That is until recently when I received part of someone else's order and many of my items were missing. This happens so I was not upset initially. After several attempts to rectify via email (FreshDirect always refunded me immediately if this occurred, which was infrequent), I filed a dispute with American Express for the total of my order. American Express never withheld the payment - they simply investigated the situation. Peapod refunded me for my missing items - and AMEX closed the investigation. Peapod then FROZE MY ACCOUNT claiming that I owed them for the balance. I confirmed with American Express that Peapod had been PAID IN FULL. So in reality, Peapod OWES ME money. I have gotten no satisfaction with customer service on the phone, as their representatives are pleasant but largely clueless and all emails go unanswered. The worst part is I have an annual delivery pass - paid is advance - and now I am also paying FreshDirect weekly to order my groceries. Shameful and frustrating. read more

I have been using Peapod for 3 years. I use fresh direct as well. I've had it with Peapod. I've always excused the company thinking they need to grow before I can expect quality produce, I'll wait it out. Oh the delivery is 50% late or say they called and skip you when they only call once then move on. Or going through cooking dinner for a bunch of people only to be told by the delivery guy oh we didn't have those items so we're not charging you for it. I'm tired of the bruised sweaty produce delivered. I'm tired of waiting on the phone so long after being told hey the driver is running 1.5hrs late "screw your dinner plans and we'll still put you on hold for over 10 mins till you get tired of waiting and hang up". What a waste. Peapod ... You could have been so great. Thank goodness I can still order fresh direct. I've had a few produce issues but they make good on it, sometimes sending the I'm sorry for for sending you bruised produce, here's a pineapple and other gongs you may like as a gift. I don't have to worry about them because the produce is usually perfect. I just wanted some fair competition to better market prices. So long Peapod. I never leave reviews but their poor service shocked me being my first time ordering from pea pod. I window was to be delivered from 6:30-8:30 and the delivery man text me at 6:20. I was on the train on the way home so I have no service. And I was expecting to be home on time. I just missed their call between train stops to let me know that they were leaving and I called them right back to be on hold for 10min. The rep told me she was going to waive the $50 restocking fee?! I was clueless. She said they charge this if you're not home when you're delivery arrives. I was expecting to be home so I never thought of what would happen if I'm not there. I told her there was nothing in the two text messages they sent me on the stays on my order saying that I NEEDED to be home or else.. nothing in the order confirmation email about that. And nothing in the welcome email. She tells me it's written in the terms of service agreement! Like really?! All those notifications and not ONE mentions anything about this?? Don't you think this is something you should emphasize being a delivery service that requires someone to be home?? I laughed when she said that. She rescheduled me for two days later and I was 15 away from home when they were there. Had they stuck with the time frame I would have had my delivery. So I had a virus and couldn't get to the supermarket. Our local market is terrible and beyond expensive so I couldn't send my kids there and had to come up with something. I used Amazon Prime which was good but I'm a big supporter of local business so I don't want to use that too often. Seeing as Peapod was my only option, I decided to give it another try, see if they've improved. This delivery was much better than the last one. The window was 9-11 and the guy showed up at 11, still had to put the order together which I still find strange but since still no organized truck, I take it that one person fills the order, one loads it on the truck and then one delivers. I'll take that if it means 3 local jobs. The delivery guy was super friendly and the order was complete. They get 5 stars for today's delivery. read more

My first and last experience with peapod. I thought this would be a convenient alternative to shopping with a toddler and infant I was wrong. The ordering online part was without issue. Once the delivery man showed up he gave me the new customer speech which included a prophylactic threat that I would be charged $50 if I was not present for a delivery. Great way to start a relationship with a company. Anyway, he informed me two items were not included in my delivery and I should have received this information when my invoice was emailed to me. Hmmm, no I wasn't emailed and I checked my spam folder. Apparently they were out of stock of chicken breasts and lettuce. Really??? I thought maybe they would re deliver the items once they got them in but nope. So you'll charge me I $50 if I'm not home to accept delivery but you don't get penalized for selling me goods you don't have?? I contacted customer service to explain my dissatisfaction of the whole situation. They basically told me "too bad". I then informed them they lost a customer and to please take me off any future mailings, to which they responded with "okay". Horrible, horrible service and customer representative scripts. I tried to give myself a break because I have 5 kids , work 2 jobs and my Husband works 2 jobs two hours away. I guess I'll just have to figure it out . My most recent Peapod pick up order ... not only did they not have some of my items ( which I actually changed my order to what they DID have once I received an email that certain items were out of stock ) but the way they charged me is ridiculous. Normally , for pea pod delivery .. they charge you 110% and then that charge is refunded and they charge you the adjusted amount based on weight etc . It's annoying bc it really messes with your bank account but you know the deal ahead of time ...even though it is a shitty system ..This time I decided to do Peapod pickup . There was no visible adjustment as I check my bank account daily but rather 2 separate charges for $191 from pea pod . This double charge has been on my account for 6 days!!!! Additionally to this double charge just know that Peapod rarely has coupons other than for new customers and when you do finally get one it's for $5 . It is claimed that Peapod matches the in store sale price of stop and shop. That is 100 percent not true. Just because I occasionally use this service doesn't mean I don't set foot in the store . I usually order from Fresh Direct. Decided to try Peapod to get the free delivery and $20 off promo. Order was scheduled to arrive between 4 and 6 PM. At 5:45 I had to leave to pick up my daughter from daycare and figured they could leave the delivery unattended as Fresh Direct does. Five minutes after leaving the house, I got a call saying that my delivery was there. They would not leave it unattended as per their policy. But they offered to return between 8:30 and 9 that night. Ok, fair enough, I thought. 9 came and went and no delivery. Called customer service, waited a long time to talk to someone. She put me on hold and then hung up. She did call back, so it seems the hang up wasn't on purpose. But then she said "the driver refuses to return". Wait, what?? He's the driver who works for your company.. how can he refuse to return? And why wasn't I informed of his refusal instead of waiting around for hours? So it was almost 10 at night, no food in the house, no milk for my daughter, and by this time she was in bed and it wasn't even feasible to get to the store for her milk. That was last night and I still have no food in the house nor milk and I have to work all day so I'm not sure when I'll be able to get to the store. No unattended delivery is inconvenient but I understand if that's their policy. Offering to come back and then leaving me hanging? Totally unacceptable. Will never order from them again. read more

CALL THE HEALTH DEPT! Ordered place and delivered as delivery guy places the various plastic bags on my kitchen floor. He did not tell me that one item was out of stock as well as one substituted. I put frozen away first and then what needs to be refrigerated. Got a package of pork chops and a whole chicken. Put both on bottom shelf do portion out and freeze. Once getting it all done I decided to have a pork chop. Opened bag and there was pork blood all over the bottom. I called and they apologized saying that things get knocked around. Pork chops are in one of those trays with a plastic seal and easy to break, etc. A day later I decided to deal with the chicken. I open up that bag to see this swimming in chicken blood. Keep in mind that this is a whole chicken that is vacuum packed in that heavy plastic that needs to be opened with a sharp object. I called and kept asking how this could possibly happen unless the chicken was punctured. They had no answer and just did the apologetic thing. Needless to say, with both happening, I had to throw out anything that could have had any contact. They decide to credit the order and send out the same order that I will pay for. I had already told them that I would be filing a complaint with the Health Dept. The order comes and I have the delivery guy put the bags on the kitchen floor. Last time everything was doubled plastic bagged. I take the single plastic bag with the pork chops and place it on my counter. Guess what? It's swimming in pork blood. I look on the floor where it was placed and there is pork blood where the package was placed. This time I take photos and video. You would have thought that they would have purposely made an effort. I called them and they are taking the price of the pork chops off the bill. The health dept will certainly get the info. read more

I was supposed to receive my order tonight between 8-10 pm. I received a call at 9:26 saying that my delivery would not arrive until 11 but I told them to please deliver it because I would be home waiting. I received a call at 10:59 but they not leave a voicemail but now I have no way of contacting anyone because the business hours are over. I wasted a friday night waiting for groceries and now I have no idea when they are arriving. I find this to be unacceptable. Peapod's service quality really drop recently, to the point where I am considering canceling my pass despite the fact that it doesn't expire until March 2016. I can't even remember the last time my order actually arrived on time, what is even the point of selecting a time slot/frame if it doesn't come in that window? Obviously there is traffic and whatnot, especially in Manhattan, so if this only happened rarely, I wouldn't be complaining but now it is every time. Get some more drivers, give earlier warnings about late deliveries, do something. When I first signed up for Peapod, the service was good and my orders were on time and never late. Now, my deliveries are always late and also the driver tells me "everything was in stock" but its not, its a good thing I check everything because I am being charged for goods I am not receiving. Is it too much to ask for you to tell me something is not in stock and not charging me for it? They show up when they want, sometimes early, sometimes late. The customer service only makes excuses. They are frequently out of basic items and anything on sale. Produce is sub-par. Highly convenient except when they are late. It's not quite fair that they ask you to be available for a certain window of time and, if you're not there, you pay, no exceptions. Thought it was a great idea to save time on grocery shopping. A friend highly recommended the service. So here goes. First delivery was great and on time. So yes they hooked me good! 2nd was 30 minutes late but it didn't bother me at all. 3rd delivery was supposed to be between 8pm and 10 pm, they arrived at 11 , and was missing a few items. I was a bit annoyed mostly cause I was tired but also cause no one contacts you to say there is a delay. But today's delivery was what pushed me to write a review. They never showed up! It was scheduled between 10 am and 12pm Around 1pm I called 3x, the recording said try again later because of heavy call volumes. (Yes I was annoyed) Then around 1:30 I missed a call it was them, message said truck problems and delivery should be within the hour. I was ok with that it was freezing today and they finally contacted me for a delay. Around 3pm I called again and waited 25 minutes before speaking to a person so I'm back to being annoyed. First they tell me they left me a message to reschedule delivery which was not true so now I was upset! then they place me on hold again to then tell me they apologize for the miscommunication but they definitely need to reschedule. I'm pissed but hey what can I do except ask, reschedule for what time? And they said another day! yeah! I swear I blew a gasket! These people had me waiting from 10 am to 4pm for a delivery that was supposed to be in my home by 12. And the excuse was a so called miscommunication! This was so unacceptable, unprofessional and extremely inconsiderate. Worst service I've ever encountered and I ended up cancelling the order because there was no way to get delivery today. All I kept thinking imagine if I had an event happening today and was counting on items from delivery or even worse , a senior citizen sitting around all day to find out they have to wait a day or two more. Done with Peapod. There are too many other better-managed food delivery services. Had about $200 worth of groceries and I picked the 9 am to 11 am time slot. (They call every time to say driver will be a half hour later no matter what time slot you choose). 9 am to 11 am...11:30 comes no driver and no update on status. Had to wait about 1/2 to get a customer rep to call me back to tell me "driver was sick" and they had to get another driver. She then told me ANOTHER hour. Now it is 1:30 (2 1/2 hours late). I was told the first phone call I would get a $20 off for my trouble. Well, now I had to call back again (since they missed the already hour late delivery time) and wait about 10 minutes for a customer rep who then put me on HOLD for another 10 minutes to be told that my groceries will NOW be delivered between 3 and 4 pm (Meanwhile I had told by 1:00 for the first lateness). IF I didn't call I would not even know this since the update on the peapod page (which was UPDATED after 11 am) said my order would be delivered between 10:05 and 10:35. This place has broken down completely. No customer service, no letting a person know. I had to cancel my plans and now have to wait until 3 pm and 4 pm. I need the groceries TODAY. Never again. People move on from peapod. They have lose all sense of how to run a business. They will be losing a lot of customers because I can not be the only one. They need to get new management in there, update customers when THEY WILL BE SEVERAL HOURS LATE plus last time I got salads with chicken and it had a stamp USE BY (but no date). Three times. God knows how long that stuff was in store especially if there is chicken in there, by law, you have to provide an expiration date. read more

I was charged for a delivery THEY cancelled! I had a 1pm cut-off. The dispatched called to say they would not be there until at least 3pm. I said I will not be home and they agreed to cancel the order. I was told to reschedule and placed the same order for 2 days later. There was another call that said again, the order would be very late. I again said I would not be home, so the dispatcher said he would cancel the order. Two days later, I saw a $287.00 charge on my credit card for the first cancelled order. I called and was promised I would be credited immediately. Again, 2 days later, no credit back. Today, 1 hour on the phone only to be told billing was closed! Finally called credit card company who opened a dispute and immediately credited me back. Never again. Nothing is neatly packed like fresh direct, it is all a jumbled mess and was soaking wet ( how can they not have provisions for rain in NYC?? Do not I repeat do not order from peapod!! I place an order with them on Monday to be deliver between 6:30pm-10pm. I get an email that the will be up to two hours late. Ummm deliver and 12am hmm that is way too late on a work night. Then I get a call at 10:30pm to say they cannot deliver my items and I will have to call back the next day to give them a new time to deliver but I could not just tell the person on the phone what time I had to call back the next day. Peapod is the most incompetent company I have ever encountered. It cannot get orders correct or deliver anywhere near the scheduled delivery time. The worst customer service. First of all the positive: The delivery guys are sweet and the prices are good. That's it. The rest, well, read on. I've ordered about 10 times. At first it didn't bother me that they would run out of items...like chicken or milk; it's odd, but big deal. It didn't even bother me that much that they've never delivered on time. What's an extra 30-45 minutes. What finally did it is the last 3 times I've ordered, I get a call 15 minutes before my delivery time ends saying the "truck has broken down" and they don't know when I'll receive my groceries and I'll just have to wait. They used to at least offer to comp the delivery. Now I guess it's such a regular event that they don't even bother--it doesn't help that their customer service reps aren't exactly "people oriented". Okay Peapod. You had me the first time. Great service, got the delivery time I wanted and groceries were in my fridge in a matter of minutes. This time around, you messed up. First, they were dropped way beyond my doorstep which I had to drag inside of my house. Stick with Freshdirect. These guys just don't have it together yet. Delivery was ridiculous: Freshdirect rings your bell when they are at the door WITH the food--not when they get there. And then you have wait for them to figure out parking and unload the items. They also didn't have many of our items in stock. BUT we found this out WHEN they delivered, whereas Freshdirect lets you know BEFORE you order so you can replan your meal. read more
