Participated in the car show this year with our baby!

What can you say about the Pear Fair! I've been coming to this festival since I was a little girl. It's on the smaller side for sure but still provides live music, awesome food selection, an amazing community and the nostalgia that is Courtland. Having family born and raised here it's a gem for us. Only downfall this year was not getting fresh corn on the cob! But the customer service was awesome, the vibe of the fair is what you should expect of a small town festival and the atmosphere was laid back, relaxing and what I love most about going. Do yourself a favor and stop by next year. It's worth it...maybe not an all day excursion but still worth supporting a local community!

This is my first attendance of the Pear Festival at Courtland, understanding this venue had a 3 year hiatus due to the pandemic. Very festive and could use more concession stands. Food, beer, wine and great band performance. The only quirk for me was when I was driving on 160 I didn't see the parking signs. Had to do a U-turn, parked at a convenience store nearby to ask where it it. Found it finally, cost was $20 to park, but considering the proceeds where going to the fire department and the entrance to the event was free, it was a fair deal. Another quirk was there was only one type of pear being sold- Bartlett, so that wasn't too interesting because I do have a tree at home. Hopefully they would sell other types of pears in the future even if they have to "import" it from elsewhere

Very large crowd this year (2015). Great live music, but expensive $14 pear pies and $5 fire grilled corn, even State Fair was cheaper at $4

It is wise to step outside your environment and, in the case of this current venture, go visit an Alpaca farm. The Menagerie Hill ranch has beautiful animals. The host was awesome and knowledgeable. We increased our knowledge of the animals and of the farm but also got to feed them. We also had the opportunities to get close and personal with them for pictures. They were all friendly and fluffy. I recommend this unique experience for all because if you do not just break your usual pattern to stop and smell the roses or to pet and feed an Alpaca, life will pass by before you know it. Put your life on pause just for a few hours and go see the Alpacas. They would like to share peace with you. You can find them at the Menagerie Hill Ranch

We stayed in touch over the next several weeks before settling on an August date. We braved the high temps and winding roads to arrive at the ranch. It's a beautiful space on a hillside and you can see the herd and their guardian llama as you pull into the parking lot. We learned a lot about the alpaca life cycle, fed the boys, and my daughter got to hold and carry a cria. We bought two cute alpaca shaped soaps. I didn't experience any of the negativity others have complained about. It is a working ranch so it's not a petting zoo or a tourist attraction. Go with the flow and you'll have a great experience.

However, there were hardly any cars, so we could do a slow, easy drive. It was still magical with lots of lights throughout this neighborhood. The standout feature was that the streets were lined with continuous strings of white lights that swagged down the participating areas, creating lit paths to follow. It was impressive! There were definitely some houses that went above, while others were more simple, but all delightful to see. Here & there, Christmas trees were in the middle of a court or roundabout. We aren't familiar with the neighborhood & lost track of how we meandered through, so next year we'll try to figure out a good route. We'll definitely plan to come back earlier during the next holiday season to enjoy the full experience.

Rockmont Lights in Natomas is all they say it is and more!…read more My friend, daughter and I wanted to check out Christmas lights last night and decided to check out Rockmont Lights instead of fighting the Fab 40's crowd. It was a first time for all of us and we weren't sure what to expect. We arrived around 7:30pm and it was already pretty busy, but we found some parking on a nearby street. Most of the streets surrounding Java Court were festively decked out and flooded with people - we made our way over to Java Court and I was so surprised to see a massive Christmas tree in the center of the court. There was Santa and The Grinch happily taking photos with families and a couple of fire pits that people were warming up by! They were handing out candy canes to passing cars and I believe they were even selling hot cocoa in front of a few houses! You can drive around the area, but I highly recommend walking it to fully experience the magic that Rockmont Lights has to offer! Make sure you bundle up though! Rockmont Lights definitely gives Dovewood Court and even some streets in the Fab 40's a run for its money! We will be visiting every year now and making it a new tradition!

Why am I moved to such rhapsody? I'll tell you...Ehrhardt Estate's 2004 Late Harvest Marie. Sigh. No. Make that, Double Sigh. Now, I'll tell you right now that I'm not buzzed (yet) and that I'd still be waxing poetic if I was sipping on their award-winning 2004 Chenin Blanc, their award-winning 2001 Chenin Blanc, or their (also award-winning) 2003 Petite Sirah. These people know how to make wine! Wine that even a neophyte like myself can and will appreciate. That's impressive because frankly, I am not a "wine person". Oh, I know how to swirl it around to check it's "legs". I can sip and spit with the best of them. I saw that buddy-road-trip wine movie - twice. I'm telling you, that means nothing because I will always choose Gin & Tonic with Extra Lime any day over a glass of vino --- that is unless the glass you're passing to me contains some of Ehrhardt Estate's soul affirming elixir. Damn! This is some good stuff! The Herzog family has been growing the best California grapes in our nearby Delta region for many the generation and have been bottling their own since 2001. From what I've heard, they're working on building a tasting room and eventually opening their own Winery, which will be available for renting out for private functions. I'm thinking that I might want to have another Bat-Mitzvah when they do. In the meantime, I'm ordering online (http://www.ehrhardtestateswinery.com/erhardt/index.jsp) or getting it at nearby D & M Wine & Spirits (San Francisco) or K & L Wine Merchants (Redwood City and San Francisco). Take my advice and do so yourself. You will not regret it. Cheers! ***********UPDATE*********** Ehrhardt Estates has added a Merlot and Chardonnay to their offerings! I've sampled both (liberally) and they're both superb. A port is on the way. I had a sample last week and I about fainted from the ecstasy. I'm already on the waiting list to get one of the first bottles.
